Crowley walked quickly through the abandoned industrial building, Evangeline still lying limp in his arms. She had passed out somewhere along the line, but Crowley couldn't teleport any further thanks to the wards that he had placed on the walls. Crowley couldn't risk any demon or anything else coming across what he had stored downstairs, it was perhaps more of an elaborate method of hiding things than he needed, but Crowley wasn't one to do things by halves. He descended through the levels of the building until he reached the heavily bolted door behind which lay the basement.
"I hate to do this to you Princess, but you need to wake up," Crowley whispered. He placed a hand on her forehead and in the same instant her eyes snapped open.
She let out a moan of pain and forced the urge to close her eyes again. "Where am I?"
"Somewhere safe," Crowley explained vaguely. "I just need to set you down for a few minutes while I find my keys. Will you be alright?"
Evangeline nodded. As delicately as possible Crowley placed her feet on the ground, but he kept his arm around her body to support her. She didn't have enough strength left to keep herself from falling. Evangeline tried her best not to feel so useless and weak, but she couldn't help herself. She clung to Crowley's side and buried her face into his chest, forcing back the tears which threatened to begin falling again.
Crowley dug around in his pockets searching for his keys, it would have been so much easier if he didn't have quite so many keys, but they all unlocked important things and he couldn't afford for any of them to fall into another demon's hands. Finally he located the heavy set of keys that he was after, he shuffled through the door with Evangeline attached to his side before locking the door and picking her back up. She let out a whimper as he picked her back up, but he ignored it and continued on into the room.
The room was dimly lit and freezing cold, but Crowley had been worse places before and he would surely go worse places after.
Sitting on a chair in the middle of the room was a man with shoulder length blonde hair who was wearing an expensive looking white suit. The first thing that Evangeline noticed through her swollen eyelids was that the man was strapped to the chair he was sitting in. He was someone that Crowley didn't trust, that meant that she shouldn't trust him either, despite how interesting and important he appeared to be. The man was also incredibly good looking, beneath the layers of dried blood caked onto his face. The reason for all of the blood on his face was due to the strange metal headpiece with protruding spikes which encircled his head. The room was too dark for Evangeline to get a better look, but she could have sworn that those same spikes had previously been lodged in the man's skull. When she looked closer she saw that more blood covered his white suit, someone had severely hurt the man. With how much blood he was covered in, she didn't think it was possible for him to still be breathing, but he was still alive.
The man seemed to sense their presence in the room for he immediately sat up as straight as he could. As Crowley carried Evangeline closer, she could see more of the man that she had been brought to. There appeared to be a faintly glowing light surrounding his body and the minute that Evangeline laid her eyes upon him, she began to feel uneasy. Something was definitely different about this man, she just didn't know what it was yet. The glow made her feel light inside, as if all of her tension had drained away. It was a strange feeling and she wasn't sure that she liked it at all.
"Crowley," Evangeline called out weakly. She reached out the fingers of her unbroken hand to grab a hold of his suit jacket.
"Yes?"
"That man looks strange," she said pointing to the man strapped to the chair. "All around him, he's glowing. I think that he might be dangerous."
"Abomination! Set me free!" the man commanded. He struggled against his bindings, but it was impossible for him to move very much. Evangeline cringed, she knew that the abomination comment had been directed at her. Perhaps it had also been directed at Crowley, but the man's light blue eyes were trained on her instead. He was focused solely on her, his gaze unblinking.
"That's enough out of you!" Crowley yelled at the man. "Unless you want another lesson in the virtues of being silent until you are spoken to." The demon smirked, "You should know better than to go against my wishes."
The not-so-hidden threat behind Crowley's words had the man shrinking back slightly in what could only be described as fear, that was if whatever the man truly was had the ability to feel fear. He couldn't possibly be human, not with all of that blood staining his suit.
Seeing the man shrink back made Evangeline smile slightly, though she instantly regretted it when the pain in her jaw reared its ugly head again. The small whimper of pain that she couldn't conceal seemed to serve as a reminder to Crowley that she was still there and very much still in pain. It quite effectively ripped him away from whatever thoughts had had him smirking so happily at the bound man.
"Evangeline, I would like you to meet Shamsiel, angel of the Lord," Crowley introduced with a sneer.
Evangeline gasped, "you mean angels are really real?" she asked in disbelief.
"Of course we are real you stinking bag of human wrapped demonic pus!" Shamsiel yelled, his eyes glowing with a bright blue light.
Crowley was about to painfully reprimand the angel, but was interrupted by Evangeline.
"Shut up!" she yelled back. One of the fluorescent lights above her head shattered and splintered glass down upon the angel. "That insult didn't even make sense stupid."
Crowley had expected Evangeline to shrink back from Shamsiel, to be afraid, but instead he found himself to be quite pleased with her outburst. Her retort wasn't exactly stinging, but they could always work on that. The angel on the other hand didn't look quite so impressed with her lack of respect for who and what he was. Shamsiel opened his mouth to speak but one quick glance in Crowley's direction silenced his words before they were even spoken.
Crowley placed Evangeline back onto the floor, her weight resting heavily against him. This time she didn't make any sounds, as if she was too drained to register any more pain. Her skin was becoming paler by the second and heavy dark rings encircled her eyes. Crowley needed to get this over with quickly, or else it may prove to be too late.
"Where did you happen upon this … creature?" Shamsiel asked, careful to avoid saying something that would anger the demon.
"None of your business," Crowley replied. "The only thing which you need to concern yourself with is how quickly you can heal her."
"I will do no such thing!" the angel protested. A clear tone of utter outrage at the mere suggestion rang through his voice, "I will not help you or your Hell-spawn!"
Crowley took a threatening step forwards, "I think you are mistaken Shamsiel. You have forgotten just who exactly holds the power in this little arrangement."
"You have no power over me!"
"And yet here you are," Crowley said gesturing to the chair and bindings which kept the angel in place. Shamsiel fell silent. There demon was correct, he was bound and effectively as helpless as a newborn child. "You will heal her," Crowley commanded, "NOW!"
"I would sooner die!" the angel replied. His fight seemingly returning to him.
"That can be arranged," Crowley replied. He turned one of the screws protruding from the angel's head. The angel screamed in pain, his eyes rolling back in his head. Several more of the remaining lightbulbs shattered leaving one solitary light remaining. Crowley counted to ten, slowly, before he turned the screw the opposite way and removed the pressure. "Heal her or my hand may just slip further next time!"
The angel panted heavily trying to catch its breath, "alright," he said reluctantly. "I'll do it. But I need you to free one of my arms, I can't do anything while I am bound like this."
Crowley pushed Evangeline off him as gently as a demon possibly could and motioned for her to stay put. Slowly, Crowley loosened one of the straps holding the angel captive, his eyes never leaving the angels face. Crowley kept one of his hands hidden behind his back, concealing what was to be his back-up plan if things started to go south.
The angel stretched forwards with his free hand, reaching closer to Evangeline. Crowley kept his hand on her shoulder, holding her close to his body so that she couldn't move forwards. The tip of the angel's finger touched against Evangeline's forehead and in that instant a gentle warmth like she had never felt before surged through her broken body. A soothing calm washed over her and as Evangeline looked down, she found that all of her injuries had been healed. As quickly as the warmth had arrived, it disappeared again, leaving Evangeline feeling strangely cold and empty.
The angel, now partially free from its bindings lunged forward to strike out against Evangeline. Gathering all of his remaining energy and reaching as far as he could. Crowley however, had foreseen this coming. The hand behind his back was clutching tightly onto an Angel Blade, which he immediately stabbed through the angel before he could harm Evangeline. A piercing high pitched sound emitted from the angel in the same instance that light erupted from its body and in a flash the angel was dead. The smell of burning feathers drifted around the room as the angel's body slumped forward. Crowley was disappointed that he had to eliminate the angel, but the risk of the feathered idiot hurting Evangeline or making a run for it and telling his peers was far too high. It was a shame really, angels were hard to get a hold of, but Crowley knew that angel would not be the last one that he would be able to get his hands upon.
Evangeline looked up from the angel's corpse and back to Crowley, blinking several times as she tried to make sense of things. "Thank you Crowley," she said, "you saved me again."
Crowley smiled down at her, "it was nothing little one. Angels are predictable and that one wasn't too bright. Now, I need you to take my hand. I'm sorry, but I have to return you to the church."
Evangeline gulped, "I really don't want to go back there," she mumbled.
"Nothing can hurt you there. Your Father is incapacitated and the Priest is dead. If you don't go back there will be missing child posters all over town and that will draw attention to you. After that little intermission," Crowley pointed to the angel," attention is the last thing that we need."
"But won't I draw attention being found in an abandoned church with a dead body?"
"Let me take care of that. I will be watching from the outside to ensure that nothing will be able to hurt you while you're in there."
"What about Mummy? What about Growley? You aren't going to punish Growley are you?" she asked. All other concerns apparently minimal by comparison. "It wasn't his fault, it was mine. I shouldn't have let my guard down around Lloyd."
"The hellhound had one objective, he failed to fulfill it," Crowley stated.
"But it was my fault Crowley. Lloyd threatened me a few weeks ago and I told him that he better stay away because you had left your pet with me. He was determined to hurt me and I was frightened. I should have known that Lloyd would search high and low for information I just didn't think he would be able to put two and two together," Evangeline explained in a rush. "Please don't hurt him! It was all my fault."
Crowley let out a sigh, "fine." It simply wasn't worth the argument that he faced. Evangeline happened to be enamoured by the hellhound and taking that relationship away would jeopardise things. "As for your Mother, that is another thing which you must leave me to take care of."
Evangeline looked straight into Crowley's eyes. "I trust you Crowley," was all that she had to say.
"I know little one," Crowley ruffled his fingers through her hair in a gesture of affection. He then held out his hand to Evangeline and without any further protest, she took it.
