"How's Mona?" Pam Fields asked as Emily walked through the front door after the meeting at Spencer's.

Emily smiled, hoping she didn't look as freaked out as she felt. "No change, but she'll come out of it."

Pam smiled back. "I'm sure when she does she'll be grateful to all of you for taking care of her."

"Mom, the doctors and nurses are the ones taking care of her." Emily corrected. "We just visit her."

"That's taking care of her too." Pam said. "She may be unconscious, but I'm sure she knows you're all there, loving her and wanting her to get well."

"That sounds like she has the flu."

Pam shrugged, showing that she wasn't sure what else to say. "Are her parents still set on signing that DNR?"

Emily walked into the living room, unwinding the scarf from around her neck. "I'm not sure. I went to talk to them today."

"How did that go?"

Emily shrugged. She couldn't tell her mother that A was forcing them in to this decision. Yes, they had told their families that there was a new A, and about everything that had happened since Mona had gone to Radley, but Emily wasn't ready to tell her mother that A had not only run her off the road, but was still trying to kill Mona. As far as they knew, A wanted them all dead, and Emily didn't see any sense in giving her mother something to worry about.

"Did they even listen to you?"

"Yes. They listened to me." Emily said. "And I listened to them. It's a tough choice to make, and it's their choice to make. We don't want them to do it, but I don't think we can stop them."

"Can't Mrs. Hastings get a court order or something?"

"The situation doesn't warrant it." Emily said, parroting what Spencer's mother had told them. "Legally, it's Mr. and Mrs. Vanderwaal's choice and they don't seem to be doing it for any reason other than to end Mona's suffering. She said they were obviously torn about the decision, and that there was no life insurance policy they might be after or anything like that."

"So there's nothing that can be done?" Pam asked.

Emily shook her head. "No. All we can do is hope they don't do it and that Mona pulls through."

And find out what A knew about the Vanderwaals. And why A wanted Mona dead. And if A wanted all of them dead. And who A was.

They had so many questions, and no clear way to get answers.

Emily went up to her room, feeling sad and wanting to call Paige. As she sat down in the window seat to unzip and remove her boots, her phone rang. She didn't recognize the number, and was a little wary as she answered. "Hello?"

"Emily?" a familiar female voice said. "This is Mrs. Vanderwaal."

"Oh. Is everything okay?" Emily asked. Mrs. Vanderwaal sounded strange, like she was happy and sad at the same time. She sounded like she was crying.

"It's Mona…"

Emily sat up straighter. Had A stepped in and taken care of Mona once and for all? "What's wrong? Is she okay? Did A get to her?"

"She's awake." Mrs. Vanderwaal announced. "The doctor just called us. We're on our way to the hospital right now. Can you call the other girls for us?"

"Of course." Emily said. She hung up without saying good-bye and started crying. She was so happy that Mona had woken up and was alright, but she was afraid of what A might do now. She typed out a quick text and sent it to the other girls.

Mona's awake. On my way to pick you guys up.

Emily told her mother the good new as she ran back out of the house and got back in her car, not bothering to wait for a reaction or response. She stopped and picked up Hanna, Aria, and Spencer before driving to the hospital, trying not to go too much over the speed limit. The last thing she wanted right now was to get pulled over, but they were all too excited to wait, and her foot kept pushing on the gas pedal.

They found Mona's parents in the lobby and were a little surprised when Mrs. Vanderwaal greeted them all with hugs.

"Go on in girls." Mr. Vanderwaal said. "She's expecting you."

Mona was sitting up, awake, in her hospital bed when they walked in to her room. She smiled at them and Emily couldn't resist the urge to run over and hug her. She burst in to tears as Mona hugged her back.

"I was so worried about you!" Emily sobbed into Mona's hair. "We all were. We were so afraid you wouldn't make it."

Mona squeezed her tight and started crying too. "My parents told me everything. Thank you guys so much for not giving up on me."

Emily finally let go and let the others take their turns hugging Mona and telling her how happy they were to see her awake.

"What did you mean when you said your parents told you everything?" Hanna asked through her tears.

Mona took the tissue Spencer handed her and dried her face. "Everything. They told me how the four of you, and everyone else, came and visited me every day. They told me how you would sit here and hold my hand and talk to me, how you never gave up."

"Did they tell you about…" Aria started, but couldn't finish. She was still crying to hard.

Mona nodded. "Yeah. They told me about the DNR and A."

Emily took a breath. "Did…did they tell you what A has on them?"

Mona nodded again. "Yes, but I don't want to tell you here. Can you guys wait until we're in a safer place?"

The girls all nodded, and cried and hugged and talked for a long time. It was late when they left. They had school tomorrow, but none of them planned on going. Certainly everyone would understand.

"I want to know what A has on the Vanderwaals." Spencer said as they were driving home.

Emily glanced at her. "We all do, Spence. Mona will tell us when she's ready and we'll figure out what to do about it."

"Everything will be okay." Aria said from the back seat.

Hanna nodded in agreement. "A just thinks they can break us."

A already had broken them. Hanna had ended up with a broken leg after Mona had hit her with the car, Emily had a torn up shoulder and an uncertain future, and Spencer and Mona had both spent time in a mental institution. Emily glanced at Aria in the rearview mirror. She had been forced to abort her baby.

Of course, that wasn't really because of A, but the whole thing would have been much less stressful if there hadn't been a nameless, faceless person threatening to reveal her secret.

A had killed Spencer's sister and framed Hanna's mother for Wilden's murder. A had killed Ian, Garrett, Wilden, and possibly Maya. A had tried to kill all of them by setting the lodge on fire. A had tried to strangle Mona, and then tried to run over her, Emily, and Aria. A had almost succeeded in killing Mona, but had failed once again.

A had done so much to them and taken so much from them. Emily glanced at her friends, and thought about Mona still in the hospital for a few more days. There was no way she was letting A take them from her. She'd let A push her to suicide before she would let A take her friends or family from her. Sweet Emily was gone. This Emily was ready to fight back until A was gone for good.

And with that, we bid adieu to Emily's Choice.
