"You think I would be joking around about this?" Clarke gestured towards the sleeping child on her bed, narrowing her eyes at him and fighting the urge to raise her eyebrow in annoyance.

"Where did you even get it?" Bellamy seemed to not be able to sit still on her bed with how his leg kept moving up and down, so he stood up, pacing around in her tent and glancing every few seconds at the kid.

"In one of those cars, the trunk of it. It was locked up in there and the mother, she was laying against the car. Dead by the time I got there. There wasn't anything I could do for her but the baby…it was crying Bellamy and I couldn't just leave it there. If you had heard it-"

"I have…with Octavia."

"Then you know. I couldn't leave the baby there; it could have died before the Grounders gotten to it. I wasn't going to live with an innocent life on my hands-especially not a baby's."

"Clarke," Bellamy licked his lips and shook his head at her, "it a Grounder's baby."

"I'm aware of that Bellamy."

"Are you? Are you truly aware Clarke? That baby there could be the death of us. Of our people. Are you really going to allow that to happen? Chance our people because of one life?"

"A baby's life Bellamy!" Clarke couldn't help but admit that he did have a point. The baby would cause troubles but it wasn't like she could just go to the Grounders and hand it over. Not only would they take advantage of the situation but she didn't even know where the baby belonged. And it was a baby. It is a baby; she couldn't just throw it out.

"It doesn't matter Clarke. It's still a Grounder."

"No!" Clarke stood as well, angry now that he was being so stubborn. "It's a baby Bellamy. Out of all the people here I thought you would have been able to understand the most. You know what it's like to hold a baby in your hands because you held Octavia. You know what it's like to chance your people, because you hid Octavia every day and took from our limited supply of foods. You chance your people because of her. Why can't I do the same?"

"But she was my sister Clarke! This is different; you have a damn Grounder's baby."

Clarke let out a small frustrated sigh, "It's not different. Why can't you understand that? The baby's innocent Bell…"

He shook his head again, "Yes but its tribe isn't Clarke and you know that when they find out, they will come looking for us."

"You don't know that Bellamy, you don't."

Bellamy stopped pacing; turning towards her and exposing his dark face to her. "Why are you being like this? You're not stupid Clarke; you know that this is going to happen. You know that the baby, despite how innocent he may be, is going to kill us. Just let him go while it's still easy. Okay? When you're not attached-"

"I'm not attached!" She paused, "I'm not fighting with you because I'm attached. I'm fighting with you because if we do let go of this baby, and if we leave him alone in the woods where he might get killed…we're be worse than the Grounders Bellamy. We will be condemning this baby to its death and we cannot allow ourselves to do that. We cannot lose ourselves Bell. No matter how better it is for our people, we cannot lose our humanity. So please, don't try to take this baby back out there because…" Clarke met his eyes, determination settling in her blue eyes. "I won't let you."

Bellamy watched her, glanced at the baby before exhaling. "Clarke …how about this. If the baby is a boy, we'll keep him. If it's a girl?" He swallowed and glanced away, "I can't allow it to stay." He slowly stared back at her and met her eyes. "Deal?"

Clarke instantly shook her head, "No deal. It doesn't matter what's the baby's sex is-Bellamy!" She pushed him when he reached for the baby, watched as he stumbled backwards and a shocked expression covered his face before he masked it and narrowed his dark eyes at her.

"Clarke, get out of my way."

"No."

"Step aside from the kid, Clarke."

"It doesn't matter what's its sex is Bellamy!"

"Yes it does, females are the leaders of the tribes. If it's a female the Grounders are sure as hell aren't going to give up looking for that baby."

"It's a baby Blake!"

"It will kill all of us Clarke. Now get out of my way, it's a fifty-fifty chance that it's a boy. If it's a boy then we can keep him."

"No!" Clarke shook her head at him, her eyes burning at the thought of the baby being cast aside.

"I'm sorry Clarke…" Bellamy stared hard at her before taking a step back and shouting. Next thing Clarke knew Miller was in her tent as well and Bellamy was looking away from Clarke.

"Restrain her until I give you the 'okay'."

"Are you serious right now Bellamy? Don't you dare take another step Miller." She snapped at Bellamy's trusted guard and only took her eyes off of him to glare at Bellamy. Anger rushing through her now more than ever. She's never been this angry at Bellamy for the past couple weeks, only when they first arrived on Earth did she had these powerful hatred feelings but now, it was all rushing back.

"Do this and I swear Bellamy, you'll regret it. Bellamy don't, don't do this. It's only a baby-an innocent baby. You didn't give up on Octavia; don't give up on this child. Please Bellamy, don't." Clarke saw movement from the other man and shouted at him: "Miller, I told you to not take another step!" She moved back, the back of her legs touching the bed. Trying to be as close to the baby and keeping both men away from it.

"Clarke, I'm sorry." Then Bellamy lunged forward, Clarke held her ground and when he grabbed her by the shoulders, a knee instantly went upwards towards his sensitive area and she leaned forward and bit him. Hard.

"Fuck, Miller grab the baby!" Arms that used to make her tremble in desire now left like a prison and was wrapped hard around her, keeping her restrain while Miller slowly went towards the bed. A concern shocked and confused look on his face.

Clarke ripped her head away from Bellamy's skin and screamed at Miller, "Don't you touch it! Don't you dare!" She struggled against Bellamy, not liking one bit the fact that Miller was now hovering over the child and Bellamy was still holding her against her will.

"Let go of me Bellamy, please! Please don't do this!"

Bellamy grimaced but kept his face hard. "Miller, actually just grab Clarke and try to hold her down without hurting her okay?" Bellamy gently pushed Clarke forward until Miller was able to wrap his arms around Bellamy's arms and once Bellamy let go of her, Miller had a better grip on her.

Clarke hesitated when Bellamy moved to the bed, for once silent as she watched Bellamy get the baby which was wide awake and slowly unclothed it. She ignored Miller's embrace as she waited, breathing heavily and wishing that the baby was a boy so that they could end all of this already but after a few seconds, Bellamy redressed the child and cradled it against his chest.

He straightened, silent as well before turning to look at Clarke. He needn't say anything because by the apologetic expression Clarke already knew.

"NO!" She cried hard, struggling to get freed and save the girl.

"I'm sorry Clarke…I'm sorry." Then he was gone, leaving Clarke and taking the girl.

"No! Bellamy! Stop! You can't do this! She's just a baby!" Clarke screamed after him and feeling the restraints of Miller, Clarke began to struggle with him as well.

"Miller, let go of me. That's a baby! He's going to hid her somewhere in the woods. She'll die Miller! You need to let me go so that I can save her!"

"I can't…"

"Miller!" Clarke let out a soft scream and then glared at the flap to her tent. Determination set in her veins and in the next moment, Clarke was throwing her head backwards and wincing at the pain that exploded at the back of her head. Thankfully it was well paid off seeing as how Miller let her go. Quickly Clarke grabbed his gun and then ran out. Bellamy would have probably told the guards to not let her pass, if she had a gun, they would definitely hesitate.

She ran, her body hurt but not as much as her heart. The baby was innocent and Bellamy…he would just cast her aside. The consequences were high but it was just a baby. She was just a baby.

As expected, when the guards saw Clarke they took an offense position but all Clarke had to do was heave the rifle up, cock it and glare at them. "Move or I swear I'll shoot. And seeing as how I'm the only one who knows how to successfully patch up a bullet wound, I'll say you better listen to me." Clarke stepped forward, waving her gun around slowly at each of them before they all moved.

Clarke moved forward, not knowing where Bellamy was but she could hear faint childish laughter. Her heart clenched and she ran towards that sound, hoping that Bellamy hadn't done anything yet. Hoping that the laughter was the girl. She passed into a clearing and saw Bellamy on the floor, kneeling down with the girl still in his arms.

For a second, Clarke breathed with relief and just stared at the baby. She had tanned skin, like Bellamy and dark hair like Bellamy's again. But she had light hazel eyes that filled her face and currently were twinkling with her little laugh. If Clarke didn't know better, she would have thought the baby was Bellamy's with how similar they looked.

Clarke slowly moved forward until she was standing next to them. Bellamy stiffened but couldn't tear his eyes away from the baby. Clarke knew he felt her presence but she also knew that something had changed in the past two minutes or so. Clarke kneeled down, placing the gun away from them and just staring at the pair.

"I thought it would be easy. To leave her here for our people but I couldn't. No matter how many times I told myself to just leave her and go, I couldn't. And then, she started to laugh and it reminded me so much of Octavia; now I can't let her go."

Bellamy lifted his head and Clarke finally saw his true emotions. Tears were in his eyes and Clarke could only nod. "I tried so hard to let her go because that's what is best for our people. We already have so much trouble with the Grounders that if we keep her, it'll just increase that load. I couldn't do that to our people but I can't let her go. And your words kept repeating in my head, I would be worse than a Grounder if I left her here. Defenseless and all alone when she's only a baby and no matter how much I'm trying to tell myself that it's for the best, I can't let her go Clarke. I can't be strong for our people and make this decision."

"Bellamy," Clarke reached out for him, shaking her head and staring down at the girl. "You don't have to do this for our people. Yes, we will get into more trouble with the Grounders but that's nothing new. We however can't condemn this child to its death. Our people wouldn't want us to do that. Our people wouldn't want to take away an innocent life…let's take her back and take care of her. Okay?"

Bellamy was watching the baby while Clarke spoke and slowly he nodded but made no effort to move. The girl was still laughing at him and soon, Clarke saw Bellamy smiling back at her. And that was enough for all her remaining anger to diminish and shift into something different. Warmer. Watching Bellamy and the girl struck something within her heart that Clarke couldn't describe.

Clarke held Eirene close to her body as she moved through the camp, the majority of the child's body and face covered by a soft cloth that Bellamy had offered. When they had realized that the child was a girl and not a boy, Bellamy had told her to abandon the girl seeing as how the Grounders cherished the females in their tribe and raised them up to be Leaders whereas boys weren't so special. But Clarke couldn't and secretly Bellamy couldn't either. They had already gotten attached to the child, even going so far to name her.

Bellamy had been the one to name her, calling her Eirene which Clarke had opposed because she had wanted to name the girl. But when Bellamy told her the meaning behind the Greek name, Clarke knew that he was right. Peace. That was what Eirene's name meant and Clarke really did hope that one day, Eirene would bring the Grounders and them together. Although most of her people believed that Eirene's presence here would be the complete opposite once the Grounders found out. Thankfully they also supported the fact that Eirene should stay here because as of now, being with them was the safest.

Clarke could see why her people accepted that Eirene could cause trouble in the near future. The Grounders were going to be more than angry and they would take their anger out on them. So Clarke should have just left Eirene in that trunk but she couldn't. The girl, who was probably one and a half according to Bellamy, already had a firm grasp on Clarke's heart. That was why Clarke didn't trust anyone with babysitting Eirene. Only Bellamy and Octavia were allowed but even then, Clarke was always resistant on giving Eirene away.

Clarke was tired, from fighting with Bellamy to fighting with her people and Eirene's only been with them for three days. She was also tired from determining what a baby like Eirene could eat-it had taken Clarke a whole day after the incident with Bellamy and Miller to find suitable food for the child. Thankfully there was an abundance of that food and Bellamy had brought it on himself to always gather the soft fruits and plants.

Bellamy and Clarke hadn't spoken of the incident of the night Eirene was found. Of them fighting and him getting Miller to restrain her. Honestly it pissed Clarke off and it still did now but she knew where he had been coming from. He was trying to look out for his people and being a leader wasn't the easiest thing to do. Who we are and who we need to be to survive are two very different things. Clarke knew this and yet, she had wished that Bellamy would have gone around it differently.

Clarke moved back to her tent, finishing her rounds and wanting to just take a nap with Eirene. The kid was talking gibberish already, mostly some Grounder words but already Clarke could see Eirene trying to say some words in her language. She sat on her bed, placed Eirene softly on the bed and then leaned over to untie her shoes. Clarke quickly took off her boots and changed out of her clothes before going back on the bed and picking Eirene up.

Eirene was already dozing off and Clarke for a moment watched, feeling the baby breath against her body and then smiling, leaning over and kissing her nose. Clarke went under her covers and placed Eirene on her chest, running her fingers through Eirene's soft dark hair.

Eirene's soft breathing, her warmth and the fact that she was clutching Clarke's shirt soon caused Clarke to relax. Slowly Clarke hummed for Eirene, knowing how much she liked it and then for the first time in a while, Clarke found herself smiling as she fell asleep.
