When Jake arrived home he walked in the house contemplating what he was going to with the rest of his day. As he entered the kitchen he saw all of his family in the living room. He noticed the sober expression of his family as he joined them. "What's up?" Jake asked, concerned as he sat down on the couch with Nate between he and his mother.

Everyone looked at Nate expectantly but he looked at the ground. Maxine put her hand on Nate's knee before answering Jake's question. "Nate has something he wants to tell us,"

Jake nodded and waited patiently with the rest of his family as Nate collected his thoughts.

Nate felt his heart speed up and his cheeks start to burn as he swallowed the lump in his throat. "I don't know how to say this, but," Nate paused as his mom squeezed his knee reassuringly. "I have recently realized something about myself." He sucked in a deep breath and let the air out of his cheeks slowly. He glanced up to meet his mother and father's eyes. Her mom's eyes were wide with realization of the conversation's topic dawning on her. His fathers eyes were completely blank as he leaned forward. "It wasn't easy and I haven't accepted it fully." Nate refused to cry but her could feel his eyes start to water. He paused trying to collect himself before continuing.

"Just say it," Jake whispered to Nate, meeting his eyes. "It's okay,"

Nate took one last deep breath. "I'm gay,"

Collectively there was a sharp inhale as the words were finally said. Nate felt a moment of relief as a weight was lifted off his shoulders, but a heavier weight was thrown on him as he's father stood abruptly and left the room.

"Dad..." Nate started to stand but stopped when he saw his mom was crying. He reached to her. "I'm sorry..." He whispered breaking down.

"Don't apologize," Seth said, firmly. "I'm going to talk to dad." Nate nodded as Seth left the room on a mission.

Jake put a reassuring hand on Nate's back as Maxine continued to weep. Nate looked at his brothers. Quinn and Bryan were looking at him dumbfounded.

"You're serious." Quinn finally said. He probably meant it as a question but it sounded like a statement. Nate nodded and this sent Maxine into another rush of tears. Quinn took a deep breath and shrugged. "Okay then," He put his hands on his knees and pushed himself up before leaving the room. "I got to talk to dad."

"Me too," Bryan decided. He stood by the door pausing like he was thinking before he looked Nate dead in the eye. "Nate," He said his eyes still on Nate. "I don't care. Mom," He tore his eyes away from Nate's as Maxine looked up. "Pull yourself together." He said coldly before turning out the door.

Maxine was shocked enough that she stopped crying. She took several deep breathes to keep herself from starting again. She turned toward Nate as her breathing calmed. "I knew that it was very likely one of my boys was." She said finally. "But I thought you would've told me by now..." She looked him in the eyes. "Why didn't you tell me sooner, Nathan?"

Nathan was taken aback. "Mom," Jake said from behind Nate. "He didn't know."

Maxine blinked at Jake's answer before nodding. "I did though," She grumbled. "I just ignored it when I should have been preparing myself and your father," Nate visibly flinched at the mention of Luke. "D*mmit!" She swore. "I'm an awful mom!" She pulled Nate into a hug.

"No, you're not," Nate whispered into her hair as he stroked her back. They were both crying at this point. Jake still had his hand on Nate's back.

"Oh shut up," She laughed in a warbled way as she pulled away. "Listen to me, I love you now matter what, you understand me?" She said tears still streaking down her face as she clenched his shirt in a desperate way. Nate seemed a little suprised but he nodded. "Good," Maxine wiped her tears.

Nate's eyes were somewhat swollen as he hugged his mom. "What about Dad?"

"What do you think everyone else went to do?" Jake asked like it was obvious. Nate shrugged.

"They went to talk to your Dad." Maxine informed him.

Nate felt he could breath a little easier. "They'd do that for me?"

Jake rolled his eyes. "Of course, you're our brother..." Jake answer matter-oh-factly.

"Thanks man," Nate smiled at his younger brother, grateful for the support.

"Anytime," With that Jake excited the room.

Maxine pulled Nate into a hug. They didn't say anything for a long time, just enjoyed the other's warmth and support. Finally Maxine spoke, "You are so brave..." She kissed his cheek.

"Dad!" Seth yelled as his Dad's form disappeared behind the barn door. He jogged after him, flinging the barn door open. He entered just in time to see his Dad punch the wall. "Dad!" Seth exclaimed again, but Luke ignored his son to throw another fist into the wall. The wooden wall cracked and his hand got caught in the wall.

"Sh*t," Luke swore yanking his bloody hand out of the wall. Their were wood splinters all over his cut up hand. His face was contorted in pain but it wasn't from his hand. He threw himself down onto a bale. There he put his head in his hands.

"Dad," Seth approached slowly.

No response.

The barn door opened again and Quinn appeared before the door slammed shut. "Dad," Quinn stormed toward his father. Luke's face had paled considerable from the tomato red it had been before. He looked up a fraction of a second. "You are an a*shole!" Quinn shoved Luke off the bale.

"Quinn!" Seth pushed Quinn away from Luke before he could deck him. Bryan arrived in time to see this happen and then spring into action as Luke went to return the blow. "Dad!"

"Knock it off!" Bryan yelled as he pulled his father back. Quinn and Luke both struggle against their restrainers.

"Let go of me Bryan!" Luke shoved Bryan into the wall and stood breathing hard his legs spread wide. He pointed a finger at Quinn as Quinn continued to fight. "I left so that I wouldn't say anything I'd regret, dumba*s." He advanced on Quinn. Bryan stayed on the floor, but he was ready to step in if needed.

Quinn stood still but his eyes were trained on Luke in a cold calculating way. "You left because your a chicken." He voice was venomous as he glared in his father's eyes.

Seth could feel Quinn quivering with anger. Maybe all this anger wasn't just for Nate... Seth realized.

Luke just turned away from Quinn. "If that's what you want to think go ahead." Luke sighed.

Seth kept his grip on Quinn until he felt him unclench his fist and relax in his arms. Seth spoke to Luke from behind Quinn, ready to grab him if needed. He didn't think he'd have to though because Quinn looked absolutely deflated. Like Luke. "You aren't mad at Nate?"

Luke chuckled darkly as he rubbed his face. "Of course I'm not mad at him." Bryan and Seth looked at each other confused knowing there was more to this. "I'm mad at myself..." He grinned in a deranged way.

"Huh?"

Luke shook his head at himself. "Where did I go wrong in my parenting?" He looked at the whole in the wall. Quinn tensed again, but Seth put a hand on his shoulder.

"You didn't do anything wrong." Seth said simply. Luke looked at him out of the corner of his eye.

"He's right." Bryan chimed in. "He was born that way."

They all stood in silence as Luke thought. Finally he nodded. "I shouldn't have walked out."

"Nope," Bryan agreed.

"Actually," Seth started and eyes turned toward him. "I think it's better that you did otherwise you might have done something stupid." He explained.

Luke snorted. "More stupid than punching a hole in the wall and trying to fight my son?" He gestured to the hole and Quinn.

Seth smirked. ''Yeah," Luke nodded eventually.

Jake entered the barn. "You guys get everything figured out?" They nodded. "Then you should get back in there." With Jake disappeared form view.

They walked in the house together and re-entered the living-room. Nate was sitting with his mother still. Luke strolled up to him. Nate stood and fidgeting at his father waited for him to meet his eyes. When Nate finally looked Luke in the eyes Luke brought Nate into a bone crushing hug.

They didn't say anything nor did they need too.
