Mermaid, Angel and Devil - Chapter 10: What the...
"So..."
"I honestly have no explanation regarding what my sister was thinking, considering she ended up petty much messing up our lives with that wish of hers."
"Well, that's not very nice. You are her older brother after all."
Yuzuru took a deep breath. "I honestly can't blame Hatsune. She just wasn't thinking of the consequences of the wish. Actually, I'm not sure if she knew it would come true or not."
"Perhaps her believing was powerful enough to do this?"
"I don't know, but I've pretty much signed this magical contract despite not having signed everything. There is no way out of it."
"None?"
"None."
"I don't know. Contracts always have loopholes of some kind." Hideki took a deep breath. "So, I know that Yuri is a mermaid. What are the other two?"
"Kanade is an angel, and Yui is a demon."
"So, Yui killed everybody and Kanade reversed the memories and damage."
"No, Kanade killed everybody and also reversed the memories and damage."
"That is seriously messed up, but I'm kind of glad Yui didn't kill anybody." His friend let out a chuckle, rubbing the back of his head.
Yuzuru paused. "Wait, you like her?"
"Yeah. I mean, she's different, and quirky. But she's your wife."
"Man. I'm sorry for that."
"Yeah, well, if it weren't for the stupid contract, I wouldn't have gotten to meet her."
"I guess that's alright." Except, it didn't feel alright. Nothing about all of this did.
"I could look into breaking this, see if there is anything in the library
In fact, so far he'd found two females completely demeaned because of feudal traditions such as marriage practices. What good could come of forcing girls to be baby makers? He couldn't understand the motives of the parents involved, yet he guessed he would have to ask each parent to understand. In the back of his mind, he wondered what Angel's parent was like, as she happened to have not said anything.
The three girls finally came out, looking as if everything were normal, and yet one of the most horrendous scenes lay in front of them only a few minutes before. They headed out, picking up Hatsune on the way home. Hideki waved goodbye and they arrived at the house, and every single one sat down. "So…"
"When are we going to make babies?"
"Angel, please don't talk about making babies as if it were like cooking."
"Isn't it? But it simply takes longer?" Yui piped up.
"They really don't get it, do they." Yuri leaned back. "The contract requires us to raise twelve children to adulthood. There's more to raising a child than just that."
"I don't know. All my father does is smack my behind when I've been bad."
Yuzuru grimaced.
…
Hideki let out a sigh. He should instead be going out on a date with some girl, and yet he found himself falling head over heals in love with that Yui. She was pretty, pink and beautiful. He doubted his feelings would change, even though he swore in the last he'd loved a girl, only to decide later on he didn't. Some would describe him as fickle, and yet this time was different than the first. All of the others felt the same, but this felt ever so different.
"What are you up to?"
Hideki paused, frustrated at the books turning to see a student with blue hair and glasses. "Ah. Takamatsu senpai?" He took a deep breath. "Hypothetically speaking, if magic existed, how would you break a magical contract."
"Hmm… that is kind of beyond my realm of understanding. I do things based on logic and formulated thinking. I would say though look at older works discussing magic to figure it out. Though, I've heard that it's true love and the true love's kiss, but that's not based on my own understanding of the material at hand. I'd have to examine the materials to actually discover the answer, but then again, what's the point when magic doesn't exist."
"I'm writing a novel." Except, academics were his least favorite thing, as was reading, but maybe this might be treated as a lark. "Actually, a graphic novel. And it's going to be super amazing."
"Is this for one of the school clubs you're involved with?"
"You might say that." Except, it wasn't.
…
Yuzuru fixed the meal for his sister and his three wives, wives he shouldn't have. He watched the three carefully, wondering how to get out of this mess, beyond picking just one. If he fell in love with just one, the other two would still find their fates tied up with his own until those twelve children were conceived. He wasn't even sure he wanted to be a dad, due to the fact he'd already raised his sister.
Letting out a sigh he headed to bed, pulling out his futon. He found himself falling asleep, but soon found himself awakening, as if something were crawling into bed with him. His eyes opened in time to see Yui. He wished to erase the entire episode from his mind for obvious reasons and found himself sitting up lecturing her about climbing into bed with him at night, particularly naked.
"But…"
"But what?"
"I've failed all of my father's other missions. If I fail this one."
"Look Yui, this mission isn't as simple as something you could get over in one night anyways. It isn't as if there is some kind of time limit, is there?"
"Time limit?" Yui paused. "No. There is no time limit."
"Perhaps what you've had issue with on your other missions is being patient, and this is meant to teach you patience."
"You don't think it has anything to do with me always messing up my magic?"
"Well, that might be it, but I'd think that any kind of spell would take patient to pull off, am I not correct?"
"Correct."
"Plus, I don't like the idea of being sexually accosted at night."
"Oh, but men can't be sexually accosted. Only women can."
However, the situation seemed resolved.
