She looked up to a paramedic's tap on her shoulder. "Thank you for your help, miss," he said, reaching gently for her hands as his coworkers took over the last victim. "Please let me help you, now."

She blinked, noticing with some surprise that her hands were moderately burned from landing on the asphalt. They had started to ooze blood at some point, and little flecks of dirt and rocks were embedded in some of the scrapes. She flinched away from the painful set of tweezers. "Hang on," she said, glancing around the cold, crowded street that had since been blocked off with police tape. "Did one of the ambulances leave?"

"Yes, with a man who was in critical condition."

She froze, suddenly terrified. "I need to find him," she said desperately. "Please, let me catch a ride in an ambulance."

"Of course," the man replied. He gave her a quick, sympathetic smile. "Just don't let your hands wait too long. They need attention before they can get infected."

"I'll be fine," she said. "Just please, get me to the hospital."

Taz was her lifeline. She barely even had pocket change with her, and still no working phone.
