Level Three

10

Kyle's POV

Someone was talking. I groaned, not wanting to wake up yet, but I knew I'd never be able to go back to sleep now. I shifted around, cringing at the unexpected pain in my back. Did I sleep in a weird position or something? I shrugged it off, deciding to just take it slow. It was probably because I was lying on all these damned stones.

It took my mind a moment to process that. Where was I? I opened my eyes to see, not my bedroom ceiling, but towering skyscrapers and grey clouds hovering overhead. I sat up quickly, flinching as pain once again shot up my spine, and scanned my surroundings.

It was some sort of city, but there were no people bustling along the sidewalks, or cars traversing the streets. In fact, it seemed to be just us. The kids from South Park. I couldn't see anyone that I didn't recognize, but there were a lot of people that weren't there, so I figured not everyone was here, wherever here was. Almost everyone was asleep, except for Stan and Kenny a little ways away.

I started to get up to go over to them when I saw the blood. It was all over Stan's hands and Kenny's hair was soaked with it. The blonde was swaying back and forth, looking confused as Stan wrapped something around the other's head. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but Stan looked worried.

"Stan!" I called out and his head shot up. He turned to me and his face fell.

That was when I remembered. Why we were here, what was going on, what had happened.

I broke down.

Stan grabbed Kenny's hand and pressed it against a spot on his head, then got up and ran over to me, dodging around the others splayed out on the street. When he reached me he skidded to a stop and dropped to his knees in front of me. He didn't say anything, he just put his arms around me and held me as sobs wracked my body. I buried my face in his chest, relieved to feel the familiar fabric of his jacket against my skin.

"Stop crying." I looked up and saw Kenny standing over us, one blood-slicked hand pressed to the side of his head.

"Kenny, go sit down, you really shouldn't be walking around, you could have a major head injury-"

"Shut up, Stan."

The warmth of Stan's arms disappeared as he stood up and rested his hands on Kenny's shoulders. "Kenny, what's your deal?"

Kenny shoved Stan away and glared down at me. "My deal is him!"

"Kenny... What are you talking about?"

He laughed. "You're just freaking out over this. The rest of us have a bit of an issue too here!"

Stan's eyes darted back and forth between us nervously. "He doesn't mean that, Kyle, he's just been through a lot..."

"No! Don't cover for me, Stan! I do mean it! I'm completely fucking serious!"

I stood up and returned Kenny's glare, clenching my fists. "I didn't ask for any of this to happen!"

"No, but you're the one complaining!"

"I think this is a perfectly relevant time to be complaining!"

"I never got to complain! I've never had a chance to cry! With all of this shit going on, why do I have to be the one who keeps it together?"

"Don't make this about you! You always try to be the center of attention, but it's not always all about you, Kenny!"

SMACK!

Kyle looked shocked. He slowly raised his hand up to touch his stinging cheek. "...You slapped me?"

"I'm not trying to make this about me, Kyle. I'm trying to stop you feeling sorry for yourself when we need you here." Kenny's shoulders started to shake. "You're one of my best friends, Kyle, and the you I know wouldn't act like this. Can't we keep one bit of normalcy in this fucked up place?"

I wiped at my tear-streaked face with my sleeve and took a shaky breath. "You're right. I need... I need to stay calm. At least until we can get home." I smiled. "After all, we're supposed to be role models for the younger kids, right?"

Kenny visibly relaxed, sighing in relief. "I'm sorry I got angry with you, Kyle."

I noticed people starting to wake up and decided to see who all was here. I turned my back on Kenny and Stan and walked away, feeling self conscious at my slight limp. "It's fine." I replied. Then, quieter, to myself, "everything's just fine..."

Karen's POV

It seemed like I was one of the last to wake up again, as people were already milling around me. I sat up and once again checked my surroundings for a familiar orange parka, but couldn't see it. All throughout the time id been here I'd been trying to get to my brother, but every time I got close there would be people between us and he couldn't hear me over the crowd.

I got up and started searching through the crowd for my brother. Did he make it through the fight? Was he even here? I worried more and more until I saw the tell-tale flash of orange through a gap in the crowd.

I started towards it, determined that I would reach him this time. I finally made it and saw him standing there, his back to me, nothing between us this time. I ran over and threw my arms around him. "Kenny! I found you!" My big brother froze and slowly pried my hands away before turning to face me.

"Karen?" He looked scared. Immediately I wondered if it might not have been better to stay watching from afar.

"You don't need to worry about me, brother." I laughed, trying to make him less nervous over my being here. "I've got someone looking out for me!"

"Who?"

"My guardian angel! So don't worry, he promised me he'd be here whenever I needed him."

I couldn't understand why he looked so sad.

While we post new chapters, we're also going to go through all the old ones and edit them, because 1: Grammar was not that great 2: Some plot holes! So expect that in the future! We want to make this story as awesome as possible for you guys!
