Danny's POV
Grace and Mary left the room to go get something to eat as I stood in this room waiting to hear news about… I stopped thinking now sure what I was going to call us weather we were partners, lovers, boyfriends or what. But to have to stand here and deal with my ex-wife I wasn't ready to deal with her when I was so worried about Steve.
"Ok Daniel now please tell me what's going on. And why is our daughter calling Steve Daddy?" Rachel asked as I could only smile at everything that happened over these last two weeks. Steve did so much with Grace and included her in everything that was going on in our lives.
"Rachel so much has changed. In these last two weeks. And the major one is I really don't want to have this conversation with you right now. But it seems that I am going to have it anyway." I said as I started to pace the floor.
"What could have changed so much that Grace is calling Steve Daddy?" Rachel asked as I sat down and put my head in my hands it wasn't that I was scared of her reaction. I really wanted Steve here with me. I looked up to see her looking at me as I gathered up all my strength.
"Rachel I loved you at one time in my life. And you were everything to me till we had Grace and then it became the two of you. But we all know that things happened and we are here in this arrangement. You are married to Stan and you have Grace with you all the time. Something I only dream about. Then you get pregnant and think it's mine but we find out it's not. That's when everything changed with me. When we divorced I swore I would never want to settle down again. But I was wrong I have found the perfect person to settle with." I said
"Well that's great Danny that you could finally move on. It' took you six years but I am glad for. But that doesn't explain why our daughter is calling him Daddy." Rachel said again as I was starting to get very angry with her.
"Maybe it's because after everything that you put me through over the years and me thinking that I was less of a man. Throwing everything back in my face that you had and I didn't have. Keeping Grace away from me and only allowing me one day a week and every other weekend. Steve has showed me that I could love again he's shown me that I have always been strong enough…" I stopped as she was stan0ding there with her jaw hanging wide open.
"Danny just tell me." Rachel demanded.
"Fine I will tell you, I love Steve and he loves me and we are together as a couple. I have moved in with him. We are becoming a family and Grace Loves it there Steve takes her swimming, they cook breakfast together they clean up together. He talks to her instead of down to her. He acts with her the same way that I would. You know she asked the day after we told her about us if she could stop calling him Uncle Steve and we said no not right now. But I guess our little girl see things differently she loves him just as much as I do." I yelled as she looked to me and was going to say something when her phone rang.
"Hello…no we ran into a problem…Steve was hit by a car after pushing Grace and me out of the way…No she wanted to follow him…well what is it…great just great no I'll be home soon." Rachel said as she hung up her phone and turned to me and she looked like she was pissed off.
"What's the matter Rachel Stan mad cause you are here?" I asked
"No he understood that, but I am beyond pissed that you went and filed a petition to keep Grace here." Rachel yelled
"Well I don't want to up root my daughter again. She will be staying with me and Steve when he get out of here." I said
"You think so." Rachel said "And just what judge is going to let two men with your jobs raise a little girl." Rachel said as the door opened and there stood Grace and Mary both with drinks in their hands.
"I don't want to go to Las Vegas I want to stay here with my Ohana. That includes Danno, daddy, Aunt Mary, Uncle Chin and Aunt Kono. I love it here and you told me that we wouldn't have to leave here again." Grace said
"It doesn't matter you will be going to Las Vegas with me." Rachel said
"No I am staying right here with Danno and Daddy. Mommy I love you and you have had me for over six years while Danno had few visits. I want to be with him." Grace said
"Grace Amya you are going and that's final your father can't take care of himself let alone you. Now let's go." Rachel said as I was about to yell at her when Grace beat me to it.
"No. I am staying here where Danno and Daddy need me. They care about me and treat me like a growing young lady not like a child as Stan does." I said
"Monkey what are you talking about?" I asked
"Grace I think you should tell them what you told me." Mary said
"When we got home mom told me we were leaving before I ran. Stan brought me bags to pack and I told him no..." Grace stopped as she got this scared look in her face. Mary knelt down and placed a hand on her shoulder and nodded. It was good that she had, had someone to talk to.
"He then got mad and said 'Listen here little girl you are going to pack your bags like your mother and I asked. We are leaving and going to the mainland. So get to it' I then yelled that he wasn't my father and he left and so did I." Grace said as my blood was boiling at the fact that Stan had raised his voice to my little girl. I bent down and pulled her into my arms and held her close to me.
"Monkey you are staying here for now. But there is going to be a court hearing about where you will stay." Danno said
"I know, Daddy said that you both would fight for me and I trust you. Have you heard anything?" Grace asked
"No monkey no word yet." Danny said as the door opened again and in walked a doctor.
"Is Steve McGarrett's family here?" He asked
"I am his sister and this is his partner." Mary said
"Will you two follow me? He asked
"Danno I want to go? Please?" Grace asked as Mary reached over and took her into her arms.
"Gracie let's let Danno go and find out everything and then he can come tell us ok?" Mary asked
"Ok." Grace said as she turned her head into Mary's shoulder and I followed the doctor out and into an office. He sat down and so did I as I got this feeling that something was seriously wrong. I couldn't face it if anything would happen to Steve our lives were just beginning.
"Ok Mr. Williams I am going to get straight to the point. Mr. McGarrett is very lucky to be alive. But also he seems to have an angel on his side. The swelling we saw in his brain seems to have dissipated. And other then a few broken ribs he's going to be fine we stopped all the internal bleeding and were keeping him over night in the ICU. But tomorrow he'll be moved to a regular room." He said as I let out the breath that I didn't know that I was holding. Everything was going to be ok and Steve was going to be fine. I was so excited to know that we were going to still have our family.
"Oh thank you doc. I can't tell you how much this good news means to me and my daughter. Would it be ok if I took her to see him before I send her home?" I asked
"Yeah make it short and I'll have a cot brought in for you. I have already talked to Dr. Kelly." He said as I shook his hand and left the room heading back to Grace and Mary. I opened the door to find Rachel gone thank god and the rest of our Ohana there plus Agent Weston.
"Danno tell me good news about Daddy please?" Grace asked
"Yeah Danny how is boss man?" Kono asked
"He's going to be fine. He is very lucky to be alive. But he also seems to have an angel on his side. The swelling they saw in his brain seems to have dissipated. And other then a few broken ribs he's going to be fine they stopped all the internal bleeding and are keeping him over night in the ICU. But tomorrow he'll be moved to a regular room." I said
"Oh thank god." Agent Weston said
"Danno can I see Daddy now?" Grace asked
"Danny I can take her home so you can stay." Mary said
"Ok come on you two." I said as I walked the two of them back and excused myself to talk to the team. I walked back into the room to hear Lori ask about Grace and Steve's relationship.
"Look Lori I know you are just on your first day and well. Steve and I are in a relationship with one another. And Grace is my daughter and loves Steve and calls him Daddy. Got it. Good. Now moving on I'll call Denning in the morning and inform him that Steve will be out for a while and see what he wants to do." I said as the door opened again this time it was Rachel who I thought had left.
"So Danny how is the Commander?" Rachel asked
"He's going to be fine Doctors are going to keep in him ICU for tonight and then move him to a regular room tomorrow." I said
"Ok well I am heading home to straighten things out with Stan. Tell the…tell Steve I said thank you." Rachel said as she left and I was left standing there amazed that she was being so nice. The door opened again and in walked Grace and Mary with smiles on their faces and that meant something good happened.
"Danno, Daddy's awake and asking for you. Aunt Mary and I are going home. I love you." Grace said
"Thanks Mary for everything. And Monkey Danno loves you." I said as they left and I turned to my team and smile.
"Go Danny tell Steve were all thinking about him and to get better." Chin said as I left and headed back to Steve's room. I opened the door to see him fighting the nurse.
"I am not taking them." Steve said
"Come on Commander please it's for the pain and antibiotic." She said as I made my presence noticed.
"Hey Mr. Williams." She said
"Mind if I try?" I asked
"Sure go for it." She said
"Now you listen here Super-Seal you take both of these pills for the nice nurse. If you don't then well you will be left here alone and I'll go home with Grace." I said as he reached over and took both pills and took them. The nurse smiled and finished what she was doing and then she left the room.
"Danny I didn't want to take them they make me sleepy." Steve said
"I know babe. But I need you to rest up. I can't lose you, not now after we have gotten so close to having everything we wanted." I said as I pulled the chair to his bed side and took his hand.
"I don't want to lose you either. You and Grace mean the world to me. I'll fight tooth and nail for you both." Steve said
"And you are your lawyer friend helped a great deal. The petition went through Grace is staying with us till a court date can be set." I said
"I am glad I hated to see her face when both Rachel and I showed up at Kamekona she was so upset." Steve said as I smiled at everything our little girl did today.
"I know we have to punish her for running away but you would have been so proud of her. After you were hurt and I pulled her away she called you Daddy. And demanded to follow you. Rachel had no choice. Well once here we talked to a Malia and she said you were in surgery. I sent her with Mary to get something to eat so I could tell Rachel." I said
"How did that go? I am so sorry I wanted to be there for that conversation." Steve said
"Well it went ok she yelled a bit and then threatened a bit and yelled some more till Grace walked in and yelled that she wanted to stay with us. She didn't want to move off the island. And also it seems that Stan raised his voice to her when she told him no." I said
"I am proud of her but you are right we have to punish her. What are you thinking?" Steve asked
"I don't know Daddy what do you have in mind." I asked
"I was thinking maybe early bed time." Steve said
"Just what I was thinking." I said. I sat there and was watching Steve drift off and knew that I wanted to tell my family. After almost losing him I didn't want to hide him form my family. Sure I wasn't sure how they were going to take this news but needed to tell them. I looked at the time and saw it was now midnight so back home it would be 4 am so I figured I would wait a while catch a few hours' sleep. I leaned down and kiss his lips softly as I got some sleep myself.
The ringing of my phone woke me up at 6 am on the dot. I smiled when I saw it was Mary calling. I sat up and looked over to see Steve was still sleeping.
"Hello." I said
"Good morning Danny. How is my brother today?" Mary asked
"Good I had to threaten him to take his meds last night but other than that he's good. How's Grace?" I asked
"She was still upset last night when we got home. She couldn't sleep kept waking up seeing the accident. So Grace and I spent the night in your bed she seemed to sleep better after that. She's in the shower now." Mary said
"I don't know how to thank you for everything you did yesterday and last night." I said
"Hey what is family for. Oh here she is." Mary said as I waited till I heard her voice.
"Good morning Danno. I missed you and Daddy last night." Grace said
"And I missed you so much Monkey, just know that both Daddy and I talked last night and we are so proud of everything you did and said yesterday. But we also talked about your punishment for you running away yesterday. And it's going to be early bed time for a week so 8pm is now your bed time." I said
"Ok I understand. How is Daddy?" Grace asked as I turned to see Steve watching me the smile on his face was all I needed to get through the day I walked over and handed him the phone.
"Good Morning Gracie…I love you too…no I feel better now that I am talking to you…I am trying my best…if Danno lets you…ok have fun at school…here's Danno back…I will." Steve said as he handed me the phone back.
"Ok Monkey I'll see you later and if all your homework is done the yeah." I said "Hey Mary you sure you don't mind?"
"No Danny I don't mind at all. See you later and give Steve a hug for me." Mary asked
"Will do, Bye." I said as I turned to see Steve with a grin on his face. It made me smile as well knowing that Grace was the one who put it there.
"She is so worried?" Steve said as I walked over to him and took his hand into mine. He pulled me down toward him as he planted a kiss to my lips. I ran my tongue over his lips wanting to gain entrance to his mouth. After a few minutes of kissing Steve it felt like the first time all over again.
"Steve I love you so much. I was thinking while you are gone for your test I'll run home and shower and change. I also want to call home to talk to my parents. I know we said we would wait to tell everyone but after yesterday and well I don't want to lie to my parents I want to tell them everything." I said
"Danno are you sure you want to. I mean I am all for it but you know your parents best." Steve said
"I want to tell them. Everything how much you made me feel loved again. And that we are going to start a family and I am hoping that telling them about a new grand baby they'll be even more excited." I said
"Ok. I trust you. I love you Danny." Steve said as I bent and kissed his lips.
"I love you too." I said as the door opened and the nurse came to take Steve to do is test. I watched him leave and I too headed home to get ready for the long talk I was going to have with my parents. I only hoped that they could understand and be happy for me. After standing in the shower for about ten minutes I got out and dried off. I changed my clothes and headed down to find Mary making lunch. I picked up my phone and a beer and headed out to the lanai. I dialed the familiar number and waited on someone to answer the phone.
"Hello Danny. Good to hear from you." Mom said
"Good to talk to you too. I miss you all so much." I said
"I am glad we miss you too and Grace how is she?" Mom asked
"Um she's ok right now. Things are changing and I might have Grace with me more often." I said
"Not that I…well how?" Mom asked
"Well it's a long story is dad there?" I asked
"Yeah why?" Mom asked
"Can you call him to the phone and put it on speaker. So I can tell you both." I said
"Ok hold on. Eddie come here Danny's on the phone he has something to tell us." Mom yelled as I waited a few minutes.
"Hey son what's going on?" Dad asked
"Look this is hard for me to say and I don't' know how you guys will react but I have fallen in love again. And Grace is just as smitten as I am. Together we are petitioning to keep Grace here in Hawaii because Rachel and Stan want to go to Las Vegas." I said
"Oh Danny that's great that you have finally moved on. Is this woman good to you, she treats you right?" Mom asked
"What make you think it's a women Clara." Dad said as I was dumb founded that dad would have thought that.
"Oh come on what makes you think that it's a man?" Mom asked
"Oh come on there has only ever been Rachel and well Rachel again." Dad said
"Hey you two I am still here." I said
"Sorry son so go on." Mom said
"Ok and all I'll say is dad was right. Mom, Dad I have fallen in love with Steve. And he loves me as well. We have been together for two weeks and well we weren't going to tell our family yet but things happen. On the night of our first date his sister showed up while we were out. So Steve told her and then well yesterday Grace ran from her mom's house and trying to get to Steve's when we found her and well while trying to Save Grace and Rachel he was hit by a car and well at first things weren't good. It made me realize that almost losing him I needed to tell you and dad everything. Steve makes me happy as I make him." I said
"And Grace is ok with this?" Mom asked
"Yeah she is even calling him Daddy. I told you she loves him almost as much as she loves me. When Rachel demanded she leave for Las Vegas she flipped out and told Rachel no she was staying here." I said
"Well I am happy you are happy that's all that counts. Now one more question is this a long term thing say with wedding bells?" Mom asked
"Oh Clara give the boy a break. Let him enjoy this relationship a bit. Besides I remember after the divorce he said he would never marry again." Dad said
"But if it's right then why not." Mom said
"Ok listen you too I love you and well Steve and I haven't talked about it. When we do we'll be sure to tell you. But there is one more thing I want to tell you." I said
"Ok son you have our attention." Dad said
"Well I told you that Steve and I have been together for two weeks. Well we have both been fighting these feelings. Well he was dating a fellow navy officer till about ten weeks ago. He told her that he had feeling for me and he couldn't continue to be with her. Well it turned out that she is now about 16 weeks pregnant. She doesn't want to be a mother the navy is her life and she was going to give it up for adoption. But Steve wants to raise his own child and well he asked me to help him. I agreed and well we signed papers that once the baby is born I'll be able to legally adopt him or her. You'll have another grandkid." I said
"Are you serious?" Mom asked
"Yeah we are. Steve doesn't have any family besides his sister so yeah we are." I said
"Oh wow when do we get to meet this Steve?" Dad asked
"Well we have to talk about it. I mean we both have to see if we could get off and then there is Grace to think about…" I said
"Or your father and I could come to Hawaii." Mom said
"Seriously you want to come here?" I asked
"Yes son it's due time we came to visit you. And what better time. I'll make the arrangements and I'll give you a call when we have a flight plan." Dad said
"Ok. I love you too and I'll talk to you later." I said as I hung up from my parents feeling better than I had in the past few hours of dreading that they wouldn't approve. I was glad that they did because it meant so much to both me and Steve to have a set of parents on our side.
