Chapter 10 Violent Insanity
"Oh my God, Sam! Someone has a gun!" Charlie whispered frantically. "WHAT?! Guns are illegal in Wales!" Sam yelled! "Shhh! I know!" Charlie whispered harshly. "We're going to be OK though. I've locked the door," he whispered, trying to reassure his brother. "Shit! Ellie's there! After I hung up with you, I called the station to see if they needed me and how Ellie was doing. Station officer Steele said Ellie went up to the hospital to see Elvis!" dread started to filled Charlie. He could now hear a woman sobbing through the door. "Charlie, what's going on?" Sam asked. "I don't know. I can't peek out there," "Nobody move! I'll blow her fucking brains out! Charlie heard the man yell. "Sam he has someone, it sounds like a woman. But I don't know who it is," he whispered. On the other side of the phone Sam was struggling to keep a cool head, but inside he was freaking out. He took a deep breath and as calmly as he could he told Charlie, "Listen, you need to be as quiet and still as possible. I'm sure the police have already been called," "I'm already doing that. What about Ellie and Elvis?" It hurt him to say this, but he knew he had to, "There's nothing we can do right now," "I know. I'll keep you posted via text," "Stay safe, Charlie. I love you," "I will. I love you too, Sam."
Sam hung up the phone then used the desk to support himself. What in the hell did the people of Pontypandy do to deserve this? Everything has been so messed up. "Sam?" Penny said softly. "Sam?" she said again, only this time she gently put her hand on his shoulder. Sam jumped, causing Penny to jump as well. "Sorry Pen," he said guiltily. "It's all right. What's wrong?" "There's a situation at the hospital. Oh my God!" she gasped. We need to turn on the news!" "This just in! A hostage situation at Newtown Hospital. Shots have been fired. It's unknown if anyone has been hurt." Sam and Penny watched in horror at the screen. This was going to be a long day.
Mary-Margaret stood shaking as Tobias held the gun up to her head. What was he doing here?! He should have been in prison! "Mary. My sweet Mary-Margaret. It's been a while. I should have known that you'd be up here with that waste of space!" he growled. "But the other girl, she's new. Oi! You in the wheelchair, who are you?" "She's a co-worker," Mary-Margaret said before Ellie could answer. "Shut up, you bitch!" the man snapped as he smacked her with the gun." She cried out as she fell to the ground. Ellie was petrified watching this. Who the hell was this monster, and what did he want with Elvis? Mary-Margaret was now sitting up on her knees sobbing and cradling the spot where he had hit her. "What's your name?" "It it it's Ellie," she stuttered. This seem to satisfy the irate man. "Get up Mary! And stop that crying," the man snapped. This was becoming a dire situation. The firefighter training took over in Ellie. Any fears she had, she pushed down. She may be in wheelchair right now, but damnit, she was NOT going to let anyone else get hurt! "I told you my name, how about you tell me yours?" "Why do you want to know?" he asked suspiciously. "Never mind. It's Tobias," he said gruffly. "Ok, Mr. Tobias, let's talk about this. You haven't done anything wrong. We can resolve this," Ellie said as soothingly as possible. "Mary-Margaret deserves to be punished! She divorced me! Then, she took my son and turned him against me!" Ellie looked Tobias shocked! HE was Elvis's father?! "I didn't turn our son against you, he made his own decisions! Why are you here Tobias?" Mary-Margaret asked furiously through her tears. "None of your fucking business bitch!" he yelled. Ellie thought back to the state Elvis was in, and how her teammates had found him. Then she thought about how this man had come to a hospital with a gun. Was HE the one who hurt her precious Elvis? 'You can't think about that right now Ellie. Defuse the situation.' She thought. "Mr. Tobias, you can still walk away from this. Please, put the gun down. We can end this peacefully," "No! No! The only way this is going to end, is with three bodies! Hers, his and mine!" he yelled as he pointed the gun in the direction of Mary-Margaret and Elvis. "If I go down, they do too!" he finished. "There's better ways to solve this!" Ellie exclaimed desperately! But as she was trying to figure out a way to end this peacefully she heard the sound of footsteps. A lot of them. "Newtown Police! Sir! Drop your weapon!" a fully armored police officer yelled. Tobias let out a joyless laugh. "No. This bitch is going to die! With me!" "No! Please!" Mary-Margret begged. "Drop! Your! Weapon!" the police officer yelled! Instead Tobias cocked the gun, then BANG!
Charlie was on the phone with Sam again. "Sam! There was another shot! I heard Ellie out there trying to calm this man down! He had it sounds like he had a woman hostage! I think I heard him call her Mary! I don't know if they're hurt! I'm freaking out Sam!" he said in almost in one breath. "According to the news, cops are in route and should be arriving soon. Hang in there Charlie!" There was a brief silence, followed by the sound of the police working and people crying. A few seconds later, there was a loud knock on the door. "Newtown Police!" "Thank God! I need to open the door, it's the police. I'll talk to you soon," "Ok. Talk to you soon!" Charlie quietly walked to the door and opened it a crack. "Are you alright sir?" "Uh, yeah, fine," Charlie said in a daze. He could not believe this had even happened. The police officer nodded with understandingly, then said, "We're asking everyone to evacuate." "But I can't leave my wife!" Charlie protested. "I'm sorry sir, it's protocol. We'll work to reunite you and your wife as soon as possible." Charlie sighed. "I understand sir. Is everyone else alright?" He asked. "I'm sorry sir, I can't disclose that. It's an active crime scene," he replied. "I understand.
Ellie was shaking. She had put her head in her lap and covered her head the best she could. Now she was too terrified move. She was barely breathing. "Ma'am?" Ellie nearly jumped out of her skin. "It's alright. I'm Officer Ellen Stone, I'm going to get you out of here ok?" she said gently. Ellie nodded, too shocked to speak. "Alright. Let's go," Ellie looked around for Mary-Margaret. But she DID see a body draped with a white sheet. She started to shake. The numbness wore off and the terror of the events hit her like a ton of bricks. Officer Stone wheeled Ellie into the elevator and the moment the doors close Ellie started crying hysterically. "Oh, sweetie! It's all right. You're safe now!" Officer Stone comforted as she hugged Ellie. "I'll be alright. It's just been a rough day. I just need to get it out so I can pull myself together," she choked between sobs. "Take a few deep breaths. There you go." Officer Stone soothed. "We'll leave the elevator when you feel composed enough, alright?" Ellie nodded as she took deep breaths to calm herself. "I'm ok now, Thank you," Ellie said softly. "No problem," Officer Stone said with a gentle smile. "The investigators are going to want to talk to you. I'm surprised you handled that so well. Are you a police officer?" Officer Stone asked. "Um, no. I'm a firefighter actually," Ellie said. "Ah. That explains how you were able to stay so calm." "I guess I wasn't that calm," she muttered, referring to her freak out. "I'm guessing you're pretty new at this?" Officer Stone asked kindly. "Yeah. I just graduated from the academy last year," she said. Officer Stone nodded knowingly. "Sometimes it takes a bit to grow a skin. When you work in emergency services, you sometimes see awful things. The important thing is to talk about it when you need to," Officer Stone advised. "Thanks Officer Stone," Ellie said. "Please, call me Ellen. I never got your name. "It's Eleanor Phillips. But I go by Ellie,"
In a pub nearby, a blonde haired man sat at the bar, watching the news. "What is the world coming to?" the bartender said, shaking his head. "I don't know," the man replied. 'If you think THIS is horrific, wait until you find out what I have in store for you.' He thought. He smiled maliciously as he drank his beer. Sam had no idea that shit was about to hit the fan.
