Chapter 10
All the Queens Men
The silver drone made its way through the large pipes that ran through the school, the movement seemed to be calming the boy. An inquiry tickled its mind and it paused with a curious hiss. Thin limbs wrapped themselves around it and it continues, slowly picking up speed. The drone was soon ripping through the pipes, climbing on the walls and running in spirals to the delighted shrieks of laughter from –ItsHarry,can'tyouremember?- the boy. It sped down the pipes, heading toward the dungeons and passing a few of its brothers –Alliswellwe'rejustexploring-.
Light filtered through the cracks of some decrepit wall, seen through more broken piping, the drone stopping to examine it curiously. Harry slid off the absent minded creature, peering through to see the hustle of some upper year Slytherins guiding younger years. They seemed wary and scared, Harry had a good idea why. He wasn't sure which Professor was currently in the nest but was more than likely their absence had already been missed. They turned the corner and the drone attacked a high point on the crumbling wall. Harry ignored it as he pondered why the Slytherins were being so defensive. Maybe the other houses were as well? –Anotheropeningbreakitletusintothehalls- Crumbling stone cracked loudly against the floor and snapped Harry out of his thoughts, his young mind not able to put the pieces together just yet. He hissed a quiet request, a drone easily granting it. It lifted him through the hole almost absently mindedly and Harry dropped to the ground with a quiet grunt.
He turned and found himself….utterly confused. He had no idea where he was in the castle. The ride on Silver Drones back was fun but disorienting. "Potter? What are you doing down here?" Malfoy crept around the corner, his voice shaking. "At least I found someone, don't you know it's dangerous to walking by yourself now?" He sounded relieved as he came to a stop in front of Harry, reaching a trembling hand to grab onto his pajamas. "Come on, I'd rather not have the only real challenge in this awful school be killed. You can stay in Slytherin until morning."
"Malfoy, What are you talking about?" Harry asked as his arm was gripped by the other boy.
The other boy's thin face was pale, "You don't know? Of course you don't you're supposed to be in the Hospital wing." Malfoy began to pull him carefully as if he was trying to avoid notice. "That fraud Lockhart disappeared and-"an almost sob stopped his words. Their pace picked up as he composed himself, "Bones and Abbot didn't show up to class and nobody has seen Filch or his cat for a few days. Pansy…she hasn't shown up for class all day." Harry remained silent, not wanting to think about where they had gone. A familiar wall came into sight and he felt Malfoy start relax his trembling.
"P-Pureblood." The blond stuttered, the words echoing oddly in the hall, the shadows seeming to lengthen and thicken. The wall folded away into a doorway, the cool silver and green of the Slytherin common room shining through. A menacing –CuriouswhereareyougoingMotherwillworry- hiss rippled through the still air and Malfoy yanked Harry through the door in a panic, a black drone dropping to the ground behind him. The door faded into nothing as the drone approached, the blond boy clinging to Harry as he attempted to stay upright. Harry…Harry was confused. His supposed hated rival just willingly brought him to the 'secret' Slytherin common rooms to keep him safe.
The black haired boy looked around curiously, studying the area and promptly freezing. Four older years were standing and staring at the two second years, wands drawn. A familiar and menacing teen stalked forwards, crouching fluidly in front of Harry and Malfoy. "What is he doin' here and why were you two by yourselves?" Marcus Flint sneered.
Malfoy shakily righted himself, surprising everyone in the room as he pushed Harry behind him. "I won't leave anyone to disappear if I can help it." His voice shook noticeably but he held his ground.
Flint smirked, "There's that spine. Finally realize Daddy won't be able to help you here?" The large boy stood, patting the shaking boy on the head. "We were hopin' Professor Snape would be next through that door. But at least we know what those things look like…" Flint returned to the other teens, taking a seat and the teens began muttering amongst themselves quietly.
Harry hesitantly touched Malfoys shoulder, "Malfoy? Maybe you should sleep. Malfoy? Draco? Can you hear me?" He shook the other boy gently but he just stood there and shook.
"He's in shock, left door fourth one on the right. Just bunk with him until mornin'." Flint called, not bothering to look up from where they seemed to be working on something. Harry jumped at the command, but hesitantly grabbed Malfoys hand and led him across the large empty common room. The door was a plain dark color that led into dimly lit hall that stretched for quite some way. He counted carefully and entered the fourth door on the right. It was actually a lot like the Gryffindor dorms, only green and silver and with a window that seemed to look out into the Black Lake. Harry found himself dearly hoping it was just enchanted that way.
Malfoy Pulled himself from the other boy's slack grip, and clumsily changed into his pajamas. The blond climbed into the bed closest to the door and curled up under the thick blankets. "Hurry up and get in…" Harry jolted of his staring at the other closed curtains and stiffly climbed into the bed. "This, this doesn't mean I like you or anything."
Harry sighed, "I think that you're going to have to at least put up with me considering what's happening." Silence reigned in the dark, and the boys drifted into an uneasy sleep…
