"How many other people have been tested? Can you find a random person on a list somewhere?" Cyrus asked the doctor with Liv by his side. They'd just been told that Cyrus was not a match for her which only made him worry even more.
"Cyrus we've tested everyone. We're going to hope to find a match on the transplant list. That's the best that we can do. Everything will be fine," Liv tried to calm him.
"Fine? Everything is not going to be FINE! You are dying and there's nothing anyone can do to save you so no it will not be FINE! I've got a doctor in front of me telling me he can't do a damn thing to help you and you standing here to be fine with everything."
"You're being a drama queen, Cy. Dr. Ramon is doing everything he can. I trust him and so should you. It's my life Cyrus, let it be."
Olivia thanked Dr. Ramon for his time and his patience with Cyrus being the way he was and left pulling Cyrus along with her.
When Cyrus knew for sure that Liv was in bed he called a meeting with Verna, Mellie, and Hollis meeting them in his hotel room.
"We need to go ahead with Defiance," he announced when they all arrived.
"But Olivia hasn't decided," Mellie reminded him.
"Olivia has other things on her mind to deal with. Call whoever you need to call Hollis, make this happen. And I do not want Olivia knowing that we've done this. If she ever asks about this, Fitz won on his own without any help from any of us in Defiance. Do we all understand?"
Once everyone was in agreement, Hollis made the call and the start of rigging the election happened.
The next morning Olivia set out early to make sure she was watching the polls throughout the day. She sat in the lobby of the hotel watching the news by herself until someone came up putting a cup of tea down in front of her.
"You are aware there's nothing you can do now, right?" Fitz asked sitting down across the table. "It's all up to the voters from here on out."
"You brought me tea?"
"I noticed you only drink that. Not coffee."
"Why?"
"Why have I noticed?"
"Why did you bring it?"
"We've called a truce, Liv. Friends bring friends coffee when they're sorry but you don't drink coffee so I brought you tea."
"Don't you think people will find it odd if you're bringing me tea, Governor Grant?"
"I find it odd you still call me Governor Grant."
"That is your name and title isn't it? Unless you've been an imposter this whole time and really aren't a Governor," she smirked taking a drink.
Fitz stood up moving to the seat right next to her. "You've been here for five months and we've had a truce for the past two weeks. I think you can call me Fitz."
"Fitz, I…"
"See, it wasn't hard."
"We aren't friends, far from it."
"I believe we are more than friends, Liv."
Before she could say anything else, Fitz walked away leaving her alone until Cyrus came up.
"You and Fitz looked pretty cozy just now. Was I the last one around here to know about your cancer?"
"Jealous if you were?"
"I'd be pissed if I was."
"Well, you're the second and last to know. After today I never have to see these people again which in a way is sad but then again, I think they might like not having to see me."
"What makes you think that you're getting away so easily?"
"Cyrus, what are you talking about? We lose and everything is done; it's over. And we are going to lose."
"It's still up to the voters to decide for the next twelve hours. If we do get the votes and win this election, you are going to be the communications director of the Grant administration. You've done a wonderful job around here and Fitz and I agreed that we need you in that role. You know how to handle the press and fix situations when they arise. You aren't leaving me alone to be Chief of Staff without you by my side. And that, my wonderful protégé, is the way it is."
"You do not control my life, Cyrus Beene. I have a life away from this campaign, remember? I left the life that I love to come and help you. You have no right to make decisions for me. I'm not an invalid yet!" Liv yelled at him pushing the chair back and walking away. At some point, someone would have to make decisions for her but not yet. She wasn't ready to be told what to do yet. And even so, that person would probably be Abby; definitely not Cyrus.
Olivia spent the rest of the day in her hotel room watching the polls by herself. Several people knocked on the door wanting her to come downstairs and join them, but she didn't answer. Even when Fitz pleaded with her to join them, she stayed in the room.
As nine o'clock finally came around, the news announced the winner and the Grant campaign headquarters was full of loud, tipsy, hardworking people. Liv decided that it was time to go out and join the celebration. When she opened the door she immediately saw Fitz sitting on the floor outside the door.
"Shouldn't you be downstairs with everyone?" she asked helping him to his feet.
"Are you going to come down too?"
"Actually, I was only going to find you. Congratulations Mr. President Elect. You deserved to win this. Luckily the people realized it too."
"Come down for a drink. You've done so much and it's finally paid off. You did it, Liv."
"I think you did it yourself. One drink then I'm out."
Fitz walked besides her matching her step until they reached the elevator. The floor was quiet with only them on it, everyone else downstairs. Fitz waited for her to get in first. Once the elevator started to go down to the lobby, he pushed the stop button between floors, leaving him completely alone with Olivia.
"What are you doing?" she asked a little shocked that he stopped it.
"I need to ask you something. And I need you to tell me the truth. Can you be honest with me about this?"
Liv's mind immediately headed to her cancer. How did he find out? What did he know? Who told him? "Fitz, I don't know what you know but let me explain. Okay? Just let me…"
"Liv, I just need to know the truth. I sat outside your door all afternoon wanting to ask you before I knew the results but I wanted to know the results more."
"Wait, what are we talking about?"
"Did you say yes to rig the election? I need a straight answer, Liv."
Olivia took a step back and looked Fitz straight in the eyes. "You won this election by yourself. I told them no. I said I didn't want to have any part of it and they agreed to shut it down."
Without a second spared, Fitz pushed her back against the wall and kissed her lips hard. After a minute of shock, Olivia returned the kiss, kissing him back.
