Another month, another chapter. I'm really gonna have to spend some time writing as many chapters as I can then leaving them to build up so I can post chapters every couple of weeks so I don't leave you guys with such big gaps. I'm really sorry about the long waits you're all getting.
Once again, thanks to everyone that read the last chapter.
On with the story!

Chapter Ten
This Is Going- Nevermind
"Holy Hell, Jagger." My exclamation of shock had come for a good reason. We had been wandering around the carnival with locked hands for about ten minutes before one of the cuddly toy prizes for a shooting game had caught my eye. My attention being dragged to the cuddly toy had caught Jagger's attention.
Jagger had led us to the stall and listened silently as the stall's owner sold the game to him like he had done to probably dozens of other people tonight. The whole "have a go, big man, and win a prize for your pretty little lady friend" speech had to be rehearsed to perfection with all the times it had been spoken to try and get people to spend as much money as they could to win something decent from one of these stalls.
But, despite the absolute cheesiness of the speech, Jagger had decided to play ball. Or shoot targets, as was the case here.
I had always thought these games were rigged. No one could ever win the best prizes. I'd definitely never won anything decent from these things, no matter how much money I pumped into them. Winning a Shadow the Hedgehog plush that was almost the size of me (as was what had caught my eye and thus drawn Jagger to actually trying to play this game)? Unheard of.
But as Jagger held up the air rifle and the shots fired off, my eyes got rounder and rounder.
I couldn't quite believe it when, in as much of a silent shock as I was in, the stall owner handed over the giant Shadow that Jagger had pointed out when he'd done shooting all of the targets. It felt unreal in my hands. And that led to the shocked exclamation of 'holy hell Jagger' that I had given moments before. "I didn't think you could actually win those things," I whispered as the two of us began to walk away from the stall. I gave the Shadow a squeeze again just to make sure it actually did exist.
It did.
My date dropped an arm around my shoulders and grinned proudly, evidently pleased with my reaction to his luck. "I've got good aim."
"No kidding." Jagger hadn't missed one target. That was a little better than good aim. Even me with my numerous medals for my good aim, I hadn't ever been able to win a top prize. Jagger's aim was almost inhuman.
I kicked a drinks can and watched it disappear into the stampede of people, wandering around looking for entertainment.
"Let's go see if we can grab some apple pie before it all goes." My hand found Jagger's again and I pulled him along towards where the Millers always set up their stall. It was always a mission to grab some apple pie before it was all sold. There was nothing better than Miller apple pie. Home-grown apples and completely home made pie. It was the best.
Jagger followed behind me silently as I pushed through the crowds, using Shadow to nudge people out of the way if they didn't move immediately.
It wasn't long before I could spy the stall. "Almost there," I called over my shoulder with a little grin. I was more than a little excited about getting Miller apple pie. I only ever got it during big events.
Matt was manning the stall with Becky when we got there. I leaned over the stall to give the boy a kiss on the cheek and greeted Becky with a pleasant hi.
"Whoa, that's a lot of hedgehog. You won one of those?" Matt asked, taking a moment from selling various delicious baked goods to get a good look at my new friend. Winning at one of the carnival game stalls was big news in Pineville. It didn't happen often, for obvious reason. Cough rigged cough.
"Jagger won it for me." I held up our joined hands to draw Matt's attention to the man before I began browsing the tabletop, looking for one thing in particular. Could you guess what it was that I was looking for? "So, is there any...?"
Matt grinned and held up a finger. "I think I know what you're looking for." He bent down and produced a box from under the table. "Is this is?" I reached out for the box and he yanked it away. "Nu-uh. Last piece this is. What do I get for it?"
I rolled my eyes at the teen. "You're such a child. Come on." I reached out to snatch the box and Matt danced back. A pout formed on my lips. "Aww, come on, Matt. Don't be so mean." Keeping apple pie away from me had to be a crime of some sort. I reached out again.
A thin arm reached out from over my shoulder and plucked the box from the long-haired teens hand.
A grin curled my lips as I accepted the box from Jagger. "Thanks, Jagger. I gotta keep you around." I pushed myself up onto my tip toes to press a kiss to his cheek before reaching into my purse to find my wallet, or some loose change that always seemed to be present in the bottom of all my bags. Some day I would go through all my bags and find out I'm rich with all the change I've kept in them over the years. "How much do I owe you, Matt?"
Matt didn't even open his mouth before Jagger was holding a bill out to him.
I paused in my ridiculous juggling act with my bag and Shadow to watch as Matt took the bill from Jagger's hand. Heh. I really did have to keep Jagger around if he was going to pay for things for me. Living in the horrors of student debt and trying to keep a social life, having a few things bought for me was a nice change. I could get behind having this more often.
Matt handed Jagger his change and I waved and said goodbye as the two of us strolled off.
"You've never tasted anything better than this apple pie," I promised as I opened the cardboard box and inhaled the scent of the warm slice of apple pie. My mouth began to water as I took up the plastic fork in the box and broke off a chunk of pie. I chewed it with an apprecitive moan. That pie got better every time you had it.
I broke off another piece and held the fork up for Jagger to try.
He shook his head. "No thanks."
"You can't say no to this. Come on, try it." I held up the piece of pie insistently and after a moment's hesitation his lips wrapped around the plastic prongs of the fork and he pulled the bite into his mouth. He chewed slowly as if he didn't know how he'd react to it.
"It's sweet." His tone suggested he didn't know whether that was a good or bad thing.
"You've never tasted apple pie before?" My tone was most definitely shocked. How could someone go for so long without trying it?
"No." He licked his lips. "I like it." He leaned down to press a little kiss to my lips.
The night went on. The two of us went on more than our fair share of rides, more than a few times. I started to feel a little dizzy on our fourth time on the waltzer.
I giggled a little as I clung to Jagger's arm. He dutifully led me towards one of the many food carts around so I could sit down on one of the chairs set out for people. "Tonight's been awesome, Jag," I said as he sat me down on one of the chairs and took a seat on the chair next to it.
"Yeah, it has." His lips curled up into a crooked little grin. "Though I think you're going to blow chunks."
"No," I denied, shaking my head. "Maybe fall over if I try to stand up too quickly." The dizziness was already waning and pretty soon I'd be up again ready to do the next thing we found interesting. Going on so many spinny rides so close together was a bad idea and I would definitely remember that for next time I went on a carnival date. No going on the waltzer four times in a row.
Jagger nudged his chair closer to mine and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. I leant against him happily, resting my head against his cheek.
"I'm having a really good night," I murmured softly. It was the best date I'd had in a long time. I was glad Jagger had said yes when I asked him to come. I turned my head to press my lips gently against his neck. "What about you?"
I felt his spidery fingers run through my blonde hair. "Yeah, me too."
My lips pulled into a little smile. I'd sort of figured out by now that Jagger was a pretty quiet person. He had a habit of keeping pretty much to himself; quiet unless he was passionate about the topic of conversation. So when he did speak, he meant what he said.
I twisted around in my chair and leaned up to press a little kiss to his lips.
One little kiss led to another and pretty soon we was kissing maybe a little too deeply for a family place like a carnival. I couldn't find it in me to complain too much about that, or pull away for that matter.
Jagger's lips were too addictive to pull away from.
"Jagger. Oh." The tinkling voice I could identify as Luna's said a few words in that language I didn't understand.
Jagger pulled away from my lips with a sigh and spoke in the same language, his tone rough and annoyed. Obviously not pleased with being interrupted. My chest was swelling with an emotion that certainly wasn't joy, either.
The two conversed back and forth with each other as I resigned myself to resting my head against his cheek again.
Jagger's voice, speaking in that unfamiliar language, echoed in my ear as I began picking at the feathered skin around my thumbnail.
After a few minutes, Jagger's hands found my shoulders. I pulled away to look up at him. He had an expression that wasn't quite sheepish, but it was pretty damned near. "I have to go. Can you get back to yours by yourself?"
I was being ditched. The happy, content feeling that I had been feeling ten minutes ago was starting to fade quick. "Yeah. Yeah, I'll just catch a ride with Trevor or get a cab home." My lips kicked up into the half-smile I was known to give when I wasn't happy with the situation. "Is everything okay?"
Jagger leaned forwards to kiss me instead of answering. After we broke from the kiss he stood. "Something happened with Luna and she needs to talk. It's going to take a while." He ran his fingers through my hair and kissed the top of my head. "I'll call you tomorrow."
"See you later, Lyle," Luna perked in an overly cheerful voice as she waved at me.
And then I was left alone with Shadow the Hedgehog, feeling torn between being annoyed that my date had been cut short and pleased that it had ended like that. He'd kissed my head. That was the most affectionate that he'd been to me yet. The head kissing was a good sign, right?
I'm sorry, I think this chapter was my subconscious telling me that I needed apple pie. I think I tried to fit the words 'apple' and 'pie' in this chapter as much as I possibly could. If anyone feels like it, you can count how many times I actually used each word :'D
And, in regards to the end, I think Luna and Jagger would speak to each other in Romanian. They grew up there and I think the two of them would be more comfortable talking to each other in their native tongue. Just my opinion there. And of course, Lyle doesn't know Romanian in any way, shape or form so she just sorta sits there like 'tehwhu?' when they're speaking to each other.
As usual, what did you guys think? Loved it? Hated it? Thought a monkey could write better? Tell me in a review!
