The taste in my mouth woke me from the worst nightmare I think I've ever had. I was laying in bed, watching myself. Then suddenly my vision shifted and I was heading out of my room, into the camp grounds. I was floating like a cloud above the sky, speeding towards a destination unknown. Everything went black for a moment then suddenly I found myself at Annabeths' door. The next thing thing i knew i was threw the door, unable to turn around or give her any warning. As I entered the room, a strange glow emitted from the walls. It was Godly in a sense, but devilish at the same time. It definitely left me feeling like i didn't want to hang around. Glancing around the room, I noticed a small figure looming in the corner. I was sure it was Annabeth, but every time i tried calling for her a faint whisper would escape my lips. As i got closer, the glowing on the walls became more intense. It was like I was being forced towards her without having to actually move. Inching closer and closer, I could feel my heart begin to hammer whether it be my dreaming heart or actual one. She was scratching at the ground in the same motions, over and over again. If there was ever a time to scream, it would have been now but I simply couldn't. I couldn't do anything actually. It was as if my body was being controlled by some other force and I was simply watching a movie of myself in the third person. Lets just say its something I hope i never experience again.
"Annabeth..?" I tried calling calling her name but all that escaped my lips was a faint gasp of air.
"Annabeth, are you okay?.. Annabeth!" Over and over i tried, but nothing seemed to happen. Then all at once she begin to rise. The turned around and stared in my direction for a few moments.
"Annabeth what are you doing?" Again, nothing but a slight bit of air escaped my throat, as if I was being choked.
And then, she was gone. I stood starting where her body was just a second before confused. Finally the thought of dreaming crossed my mind and the image of her room began to fade. But before my mind went completely blank, I managed to glimpse what she had been scratching on the floor. All I could see was flames, and then the words "In due time" appeared right below it. Instantly after seeing the picture I was thrown from my sleep and covered in sweat. Within seconds of becoming conscious everything turned black again. The same dream, no, vision, played again. It started with me seemingly waking up then back at Annabeths' cabin trying to wake myself up or turn myself around. This time the familiar glow seemed stronger, and I could here hundreds of voices whispering in the room, clogging my mind. I tried screaming with everything I had but nothing happened. In the end I was face to face with the image Annabeth had scratched into the floor, this time with blood dripped in a full circle around it. There was something different about the picture this time tho, and it took a while for me to notice it since latin came naturally to me. Where it used to say "In due time" below the flames, it was now replaced with "In temper visitationis", which was the latin translation. What is going on? I didn't know becoming a God meant out of body experiences, and if someone would have told me before i agreed, I probably would have politely declined. This is too weird. For a third time, I opened my eyes, hoping I had finally reached reality. Knots in my stomach formed strongly as I ran to the bathroom and turned on the faucet. Listening to running water always helped me prepare to chuck up last nights meal. A few minutes later I was still awake thinking of what just happened to me. Was this a test? Or could it be a sign.. I wanted to tell someone but I didn't want to sound out of it. No one would believe me if I said Annabeth was going to burn the camp down. They'd probably throw me out. The sounds of running water left me feeling better but the picture in my dream left me in a daze. What just happened to me?
I continued my day, acting as if nothing had happened and my vision hadn't startled me. I practiced sword fighting with Grover, hung out with Dave, picked on Annabeth for a bit. But constantly no matter what I was doing, a piece of me was drawn to the picture i had seen.
"In due time" flooded my brain for the next hour as I ate dinner quietly, listening to the guys from Ares cabin gloat about a practice resent demon they had blown to pieces today.
"All it took was two, Perfectly timed hits and.. BAM! He's gone!"
Grover decided to jump in on the fun, while i stared at Annabeth for a moment, wondering if she could sense something was wrong.
"Dude, wasn't he like a 2nd level? He had the fight of a unicorn" Grover couldn't help but bust out laughing as the last word slipped his mouth and the rest of the table followed suit.
After dinner, Annabeth clearly could pick up that something wasn't right and she tried asking me about it.
"Whats going on Perc?"
"Nothing, just not feeling good."
I tried to pull it off but she pressed on.
"Percy, I know you. Somethings up. Bad dream?"
I stared at her, puzzled at her response. Out of everything that could have troubled me, she guessed it on her first try. She either can read minds, or she really does know me.
"Actually.. Yeah. How'd you know?" I tried to force a smile but she could obviously tell something was up.
"I had another one too last night. I know how it feels, it kinda rattles you and leaves you wondering. Which that seaweed brain looks like its doing a lot of."
We both laughed for a moment, then silence filled the air. Something she said had stuck with me.
"You said another one.. like, you've been having bad dreams often?"
She looked as if my response had caught her off guard.
"Yeah actually.. the past week I've had the same dream over and over."
Heres where it gets interesting.
"What have they been about? Tell me yours and i'll tell you mine?" I hadn't expected her to say anything about the fire, I was genuinely curious.
She looked at me for a second, hesitant to say anything.
"Well it starts with me in my room. I can't see anything really, and the next thing I know i'm outside. Everything's dark, and then I end up at a door. Well, your door." She gives me one of those Please don't think i'm weird looks. I signal for her to go on.
"Then, i'm in your room. I can't see anything but I can hear water running. Theres a faint sound of someone whispering, and I see you sitting in the corner."
You can imagine this is the point my heart hits the bottom of my stomach. I gulp a little too loudly and she goes on.
"Then, I inch closer to you. You're using your nails to carve something into the ground. It takes a minute or so, but the image becomes clear. Fire covers the ground in front of you, and you're writing something underneath the picture. When you're finished, theres letters scribbled out spelling 'in due time', whatever that means. Then, you stand up and just disappear. I stay around in your room for what feels like years and the next thing I know, everything is fading black and i'm jolting out of my sleep."
I stare at her, with my mouth hanging open.
"Uh, Perc? What's wrong?"
With two fingers to my mouth, I whistle for Dave.
He shows up in a instant, letting a grain of wheat hang from the side of his mouth like a toothpick.
"How ya doin boss, what's poppin? Where we goin?"
The wheat in his mouth left him with a slight lisp, forcing me to hold back a smile.
"Annabeth, get on. We're going to Olympus."
