I've gotten so much positive feedback, I knew I had to finish it. I'm sorry it's taken so long guys! Five Years is absolutely WAY too long to leave people hanging!
I feel terrible, so I'm going to work hard on this story so you guys didn't wait for nothing!
Masashi Kishimoto owns Naruto
I own the plot
Things were all happening so fast. Sasuke stood in between two people, the one he wanted, and the one he outran.
"Sakura!" Kiba quickly pushed past people as he frantically tried to get her attention.
She turned, and saw him, standing there in the middle of the crowded market, looking just like a ghost. "Sasuke…kun….?" Her eyes went wide as she dropped the bag of fruit she had been holding.
"Sakura." Her name oozed out of his mouth like sticky sap from a tree. He smirked. "I finally found you." He held his hand out.
She reached out her hand to meet his. The way he said her name jolted her memory. She remembered.
Kiba sprinted towards Sakura. The last person he expected to see was Sasuke. He HATED Sasuke. All the hurt he caused Naruto, turning his back on his teammates. Leaving Konoha and leaving Sakura. Leaving Sakura and making her cry. Leaving Sakura and breaking her heart. Kiba pulled back his fist getting ready to break this guys jaw.
"Kiba stop! Something's not right!" Naruto yelled after the Inuzuka boy, trying to catch up with him. He pushed past people, but it was too late, the market was too crowded and Kiba was too fired up. Naruto couldn't stop him unless he physically restrained him.
Days before:
Naruto and Kiba had been searching for three days now. He couldn't believe it had taken him a year to gather up the courage to finally do this. The incident with Kakashi made him very uncomfortable, though. It was a bad omen; the warning he had left them. Either way, Kiba couldn't sit around anymore. He was tired of people telling him he was crazy. He could feel her presence, he could feel her alive. This wasn't just some superstitious feeling. He didn't believe in ghosts or anything like that. This was real or it wouldn't have been nagging at him and eating away at him. Even if she was dead… he didn't want to think about it, but he needed proof. He needed closure. It wasn't fair. Everyone had lost someone, and maybe, just maybe if they found Sakura, they would be able to find out exactly WHY the mist village had attacked them. There were so many unanswered questions. Even if he never got to be with Sakura again, he had to know. No body, no burial, something didn't feel right.
Kiba Inuzuka met Naruto Uzumaki's gaze in between the flames of the campfire they had built where they would rest for the night.
"I wonder if Hinata is okay."
"How are you guys doing?"
"Well, it's been awhile since the incident, and having a baby out of wedlock is frowned upon, especially when the woman you're in love with is born into such a prestigious blood line. You know, we still have all the things in her room. A parent shouldn't have to bury their child." Naruto gave his friend a bittersweet smile. "We couldn't bring ourselves to change anything. Shikamaru thinks it's keeping us from moving on, but I don't see it that way." He took a deep breath. It got easier, talking about his daughter. Time helped. "I think it's the opposite, really. It's not like she was never here. She lives on, through us." He threw another stick in the fire and it hissed at him.
Kiba squeezed his eyes shut tight. He was so selfish. He hadn't been the only one who had lost someone. Everyone had lost someone, but here he was acting ass and dragging one of his best friends along with his crazy.. "I can't believe how much of a dick I've been, lately. I've been so selfish. I'm so sorry Naruto. I'm such a shit of a person." Kiba sighed and put his head in his hands.
"Yeah, but, you're not a shit friend. After we lost our daughter, I had someone to confide in. I had Hinata to console me. We grieved with each other and we helped each other heal. After you lost Sakura, it must have felt like you didn't have anyone."
Kiba shook his head. "I was just so wrapped up in myself; I didn't want throw my problems at anyone. The village was such a fucking mess. My sister couldn't even help me. I just wish I could have been there for you."
"I'll accept your apology if that's what you want, but you don't need one, Kiba. You and Shikamaru have always had my back. That's all I've ever needed."
"I swear I'll make it up to you."
"You know… We were actually waiting to tell people.. but uh," Naruto grinned through watery eyes, "We're having another baby."
"What! No fucking way?!"
"Yeah, Hinata is already 2 ½ months along."
"I'm so happy for you guys!"
Naruto nodded excitedly. Kiba stood up, walked over to Naruto and pulled him into a hug. They both sobbed into each others shoulder. The mood changed instantly. It was as if a weight had been lifted off of each of them.
Lady Tsunade sighed, "Shino, Temari and Sakura, had been sent on a special mission. Intel had told us suspicious activity had been happening on our border. Sasuke had been seen lingering, and even though there was a peace treaty, we still sent them to the neighboring country to act as vigilantes and make sure nothing was actually happening."
"Our first mistake, was trusting they wouldn't see this as a threat."
"One of the strongest female Shinobi and Tsunade's apprentice would be seen as one, though."
"Our second mistake was being unprepared."
"With no Sasuke in sight, the team of three was instructed to come home. They were followed under false pretenses."
"Our third mistake was thinking Sasuke was in alliance with The Village Hidden in the Mist."
"The Mizukage assumed Sasuke was still one of ours, and that he was planning an assassination. Everyone knew how dangerous he had become."
"This is why we must never assume things! It just makes an ass out of you and me!"
"Shizune."
"Sorry Lady Hokage."
Tsunade rubbed her temples, as she did, every day. "And now, the Inuzuka boy has taken off with that blonde idiot of all people."
