Chapter 9: A Few Roadblocks

As the bell rang ending class, Rachel walked out of the classroom eagerly trying to get to glee club. She hadn't seen Puck since they came to school that morning and she couldn't wait to finally be around him. But as soon as she walked out, a few cheerleaders blocked her.

"Look who it is," one of them smirked. "Puck's latest whore."

"What?" Rachel asked, confused.

Another one laughed cynically. "You're kidding yourself if you think that Puck is actually going to be in a relationship with you."

"But we are in a relationship."

The group laughed again before the last cheerleader spoke. "Hate to break this to you, new girl, but Puck doesn't do relationships. He does whatever he wants and whoever he wants. You're something for him to play with until you go back to wherever you came from."

Before Rachel could respond, a voice came from behind her. "Hey leave her alone." She turned around and saw that it was Chase. He walked up to them. "Don't you girls have someone else to torture with your presence?"

The cheerleaders shook their heads and walked away as Rachel turned to Chase. "Thank you. I have to go."

As she started to walk away, Chase turned and walked with her. "So did I hear right? You're dating Puckerman?"

Liking that she could rub this in his face, Rachel put on a confident face. "Yes I am. What business of it is yours?"

Chase shrugged. "Hey, I just thought I should warn you that he's not exactly a relationship man. He just wants girls to play with until something better comes along. All he wants from you is sex."

"Do you mean just like you? Because last time I checked, you wanted the same thing."

"Oh you're still holding onto that? Look Rachel, you put it out there and I was just responding. I'm sure that's all Puck is doing."

Before she could respond, she noticed Puck standing outside of the choir room, staring at them. She turned back to Chase. "You do not know anything about him or our relationship."

"Maybe not but I would love another shot at getting under this skirt," he smirked as he moved closer to her. Rachel froze in fear but luckily, Puck walked up to them.

"Chase. You were probably too drunk to remember my threat but I remember telling you to stay the fuck away from Rachel."

"Just trying to show her that you're nothing compared to me. But I'm sure she'll figure it out in her own time. See you later Rachel."

He winked at her before walking away. Puck turned to Rachel. "Are you okay?"

She nodded and walked into the choir room without another word. Puck stared after her, worried but walked in anyway. He noticed that Rachel wasn't sitting in their usual seats. Instead, she was sitting in the back with Kurt and Mercedes. He sighed as Mr. Schue walked in and wrote sectionals on the board.

"Okay guys. Sectionals is coming up and we need to get our set list together. Who has any ideas?"

Santana was the first to speak. "I think someone who is awesome and who has the best voice in here should have the solo performance. Someone like me."

Tina rolled her eyes. "Just because you managed to win that best solo competition doesn't mean that you're suddenly the best singer in glee club. Plus, we should give it to someone who will actually practice the material, not just wing it."

While everyone was arguing about who got the solo, Puck turned to look at Rachel. "Hey what's going on? Why aren't you talking to me?"

She frowned. "I do not wish to be like all of the other girls you have had sexual relations with Noah."

Puck sighed, realizing now why Rachel was acting like this. Getting an idea, he spoke up. "Why don't Rachel and I do a duet?"

Santana frowned. "Excuse me?"

"I mean you guys heard us do Need You Now. We sound great together."

Quinn shook her head. "Yeah but foreign girl hasn't been here for that long. She doesn't understand how competitions are."

"Doesn't mean she shouldn't be allowed to do the duet."

"Her voice isn't good enough for us to win. Look, we get that for some strange reason that's beyond all of us you're dating her but that doesn't mean that you should get the duet."

Kurt shook his head in frustration. "Mr. Schue what do you think?"

Mr. Schuester sighed. "What does Rachel think? You want a duet but she hasn't said a word."

Hearing her name, Rachel looked up and noticed everyone's eyes on her. Even though she was still very upset with everything she had been hearing about Puck, she would do anything to shut Quinn and Santana up. After all, she had been raised to believe she's better than those people below her. She nodded. "I think Noah and I can help us win if we do a duet."

Mr. Schue nodded. "Then it's decided. Puck and Rachel have the duet and we'll work on a group number. Let's get started."

Puck was happy that Rachel had agreed to do the duet but when he looked at Rachel, he could tell that she wasn't exactly happy at the moment. He frowned, deciding that he had to find out what exactly was said to Rachel.

When they got home, Puck stopped Rachel before she went upstairs.

"Okay Rach, I think you've avoided this for long enough. What happened? Who said something to you?"

"It does not matter. I know everything I need to know thanks to them informing me of your ways." As she walked upstairs, Puck groaned and followed her to her room. She turned to him. "I wish to be alone."

"Well unlike your home in Mercier, you don't get everything you want. Can you please just talk to me? Who talked to you?"

Realizing he wasn't going to leave her alone until she told him, Rachel sighed. "I was leaving class and some cheerleaders stopped me and told me that I am just something for you to play with until I go home and you find someone better."

Puck sighed. "Rachel you know that's not true."

"Do I? How do I know you're not just like Chase?"

Suddenly feeling defensive, Puck angrily replied, "You know I'm nothing like Chase. At least when I get in a girl's pants, she wants it."

Rachel frowned. "So you've had intercourse with all of these girls and just left them?" Not wanting to admit the truth, he stayed silent. "Now I really do not know if I am different."

"Rachel-"

"Please leave my room. I do not wish to speak to you any longer."

Puck left as Rachel slammed the door behind him. He leaned against the wall, trying to figure out a way to get through to Rachel. Suddenly, an idea came to him and he went to get his guitar. When he came back, he stood outside of Rachel's door and started playing a familiar tune.

But I won't hesitate
No more, no more.
It cannot wait,
I'm yours.

Well, open up your mind and see like me,
Open up your plans and damn you're free.
Look into your heart and you'll find that the sky is yours.
So please don't, please don't, please don't...
There's no need to complicate.
'Cause our time is short.
This oh, this oh, this is our fate.
I'm yours.

After a few seconds, the door opened and Rachel motioned for him to come in. When he went in, he sat on her bed and looked at her. "I don't sing for just anyone. You're special to me, Rachel. The last thing I want is for you to end up being just like those other girls."

She nodded and sat in his lap. "So I'm not just something to play with until something better comes along?"

"Absolutely not. There is nothing better. You're it." She smiled and leaned in to kiss him. When they pulled away, he smirked. "You know, you are really abandoning your princess behavior. What would your parents say if they knew their princess was the one initiating a kiss?"

Rachel rolled her eyes. "Good thing they're not here."

He chuckled and interlaced their hands. "Don't listen to anything anyone says, especially the cheerleaders. They're just jealous that they can't have the Puckasaurus to themselves."

She laughed and nodded. "Okay. Well I believe we have some work to do, since we're singing the duet for the competition."

"Are you sure we can't sit here and kiss some more?" Rachel raised an eyebrow. "Alright fine. Can't blame a guy for trying."

Chase walked into his house and threw down his backpack, clearly not concerned with doing any homework at the moment. He heard his second cell phone ringing and picked it up immediately.

"Yeah?"

"You haven't reported to me in days," the voice said. "My patience is wearing thin."

Chase groaned. "Sorry my time doesn't revolve around you and your stupid takeovers."

"If I were you, I'd be a little careful with how you speak to me. One wrong move and I could have you locked up in a prison here. Now what is going on over there?"

"Same thing as the last time we talked. She's just blending in and trying to stay under the radar. Something is different though. She's involved with the guy she's living with."

"That's unacceptable. Tell me more about this young man."

He sighed, not wanting to describe Puck. "He's on the football team, he's a glee club nerd and a ladies' man. He's been with half the girls in the whole school but for some reason she chose to be with him."

"What happened to you trying to woo her?"

"He stepped in and interrupted," he answered, bitterly. "The bastard."

"Look, I need you to get her to trust you. She needs to tell you her real identity so you can bring her back. You need to try to get close to her again."

"How can I do that? She has her bodyguard boyfriend with her almost all of the time."

"Figure it out. She needs to come back, even if you have to kidnap her yourself."

Chase grew confused. "Wait you didn't say anything about kidnapping-"

"Just do what I ask. Is that clear?"

He sighed. "Yeah, Bernie. Crystal clear."

"That's King Bernard to you, peasant. One more outburst like that and our deal is off."

"Fine." He hung up the phone and shook his head as he started to think of new ways to get Rachel back to trusting him.

Did anyone see that coming? Does anyone hate Chase even more now? On a positive note, Puckleberry is singing the duet for Sectionals! What do you think they should sing? Let me know what you think. Like I said, be on the lookout for Stay With Me and possibly Beneath Your Beautiful. Bye for now :)
