AFTERWORD

I wrote the preceding story right after I read 'Impulse', the third novel in the Jumper series written by the wonderfully talented Steven Gould. I was inspired by the way he handled someone who is essentially young, gifted, inexperianced, and most of all, chock full of Bold. His Cent is exactly the daughter I would have loved to have had, her bravery and intelligence the gifts I would have wished on any young person. I wrote a continuation of her story as I thought it might have gone in her world, unaware that he was writing another Jumper novel.

I've now read that novel, 'Exo' three times running… and it is a triumph. There are an incredible number of 'Holy Crap, that was awesome!' moments for Cent and her family and friends, a great growth for her character and the world she inhabits. I strongly encourage everyone to buy this entire series, four books, if you want the great roller coaster ride you are looking for in adventure, plot, and characters you can wish you knew.

This book also makes me incredibly proud. I caught space fever from seeing her abilities also, and set that vision in 'Keys'. It differs substantially from 'Exo', I focus in on different technical aspects of exploration and exploitation and come up with different solutions. HIS ARE BETTER! His story is complete and wonderful, and I hope he makes a mint from it. I'm just proud that his Cent and my Cent are the same person with the same indomitable drive, bold ideas, and refusal to compromise her vision. I had many more ideas I wanted to put in the work, but I'm not a novelist, and wanted to focus in on the space aspect.

In effect, any similarities of 'Keys' to 'Exo' is coincidental and unapproved by Mister Gould and this should be read just as any other fan fiction. Except no one is sleeping with anyone inappropriate.

Toodles!

P.S. If anyone can suggest the capsule idea to Mister Gould, it would be a great way for Cent and family to go extrasolar. Push them to near lightspeed, and you don't even have to slow them down as you pass something interesting… like a planet.
