CHAPTER 9: Nothing is gonna change our love

Ann was driving home with a lot of thoughts in her mind. The way home from the hospital looked endless. She was crying and she had to find the right way to tell Bobby what was going on. *This will change our lives* she kept thinking.

The last 8 months after the wedding on the sea and the romantic honeymoon were perfect. They spent days and nights together, like teenagers during the first months of their relationship. They went to the cattle baron's ball, she wore a blue dress and for the special occasion Bobby bought her a necklace with a pendant in the shape of heart made of aquamarine stone. She spent the night with some old friends of Bobby and he introduced her to them as his wife. That word sounded so sweet and perfect said by him and she got used to it very soon. They made love more often, trying to not wake up Christopher or at least, to not make a lot of rumours. Everytime was like a first time, sometimes more passionately, sometimes just classic and romantic, but all the times she felt in heaven. Few months ago, when the sun was still warm, they were having lunch near the oak after a lovely ride around Southfork ranch and they started to kiss passionately, Ann immediately understood what was going to happen so she started to unbutton his blue shirt and he did the same thing with hers. Making love where Bobby carved their name and where he proposed her was even more perfect. But everything was going to change. Ann felt sick for few days in that week and her worries became true when she went to the doctor and she confirmed it.

*It's impossible! How can tell this to Bobby? It can't be true*.

Ann dried her tears and she realized that she was in front of the Ewing residence , her house. She parked her car and she notice that Bobby's car wasn't there. She thanked God for that, she wasn't ready to face Bobby, she needed more time to think about it. Closing the car she walked over the front door and she walked inside the house. She went in the kitchen to make some hot tea to help herself to calm down.

'Good morning Mrs. Ewing' Carmen said. Ann didn't say a word she just smiled her, trying to not look upset and she went to take a cup for the tea. 'You left very early this morning. If I knew it, I'd have cooked the breakfast before you left' she continued with a gentle tone.

'Don't worry, Carmen. I wasn't hungry and I had something important to do' she replied.

'Mrs. Ewing, is everything right?' she asked.

'Yes, Carmen. I just need a cup of tea and get some rest' she responded. Carmen understood that something was wrong but she didn't say anything else. Ann took the cup of hot tea and she went upstairs, she put her bag on the bed and she went to sit on the sofa. Taking some sips of the tea, she could think only about the words of Dr. Wilson, *The results of the analysis are positive, Mrs. Ewing*.

Bobby was riding on Southfork property with some of the hands, they called him because there was problem with the enclosure in the south of the ranch. They fixed the problem and they were riding to the stables. Bobby was worried for Ann, she felt sick and he had offered to take her to the doctor but she said that she was fine and she probably got something with the beginning of the autumn. That morning he got up and he realized that Ann was already gone, when he went downstairs he saw the note that she left for him.

I'll be back for lunch. Love you, Annie.

He tried to call her, just to hear the sound of her voice, but she didn't pick up.

'Mr. Ewing?' someone interrupted his thoughts. He turned to him, he was Jason, he was a farm hand.

'Yes, Jason?' Bobby said, dismounting.

'What we're gonna do for the rest of the enclosure?'.

'I'll think about the best way to prevent problem like that. For now, you guys look if there are other problems with the enclosure in the north part' he decided.

'Okay, Mr. Ewing. I'll take care of it'.

'Thank you, Jason' he said, patting on his back. Bobby left the stables and he was walking over the house. He needed to check the map of Southfork land and all the boundaries, so he could have an idea to how to fix the problem of the enclosures. He walked inside from the main door and he went to his office. He took the mad of Southfork land from the closet on the wall and he put it on his desk.

'Daddy?' Christopher said. Bobby immediately raised his head and he saw his son at the door.

'Oh come in, son'. He walked in and he closed the door behind him.

'Dad, I just saw Jason at the stables and he told me what happened to the enclosure in the south of the ranch. Is that too bad?' he asked, reaching his dad at the desk.

'We don't know exactly what happened yet but a part of the enclosure was completely damaged. We were lucky that we didn't lost some cattle' he said, trying to find a reason.

'Do you think someone did it on purpose?'.

'I don't know, son' he replied, looking the map. 'Jason is checking the north part of the ranch. If someone did it on purpose, we'll find more damages in the ranch' Bobby said with a worried tone.

'But who would have done it?' Christopher asked, with a worried-angry tone.

'I don't know..'. Bobby couldn't finish the phrase cause the phone started to ring. He picked up. 'Hello?'.

'Mr. Ewing, I'm Jason'. Bobby pressed the button to turn on the speakerphone. 'I'm in the north part of the ranch with Mark and we have a problem' he continued.

'What kind of problem?' Christopher asked.

'We have the same problem that we have in the south part. Same damages' Jason said with a worried tone.

'Okay Jason, stay there. I'll right there' Bobby replied to him.

'Sure, Mr. Ewing'. He closed the conversation.

That was a big problem. Someone damaged the enclosed in purpose and Bobby couldn't find a good reason to explain it.

'I'll come with you, dad' Christopher said. He started to walk over the door when he saw that Ann was opening it.

'Hey guys' she said, smiling.

'Hi Ann' Christopher replied to her.

'Christopher, can I talk with your dad alone for a minute?' she asked. Bobby couldn't see her face because Christopher was between them, but he was sure that something was wrong, he could feel it in the tone of her voice. His son turned to him and he nodded his head.

'Sure. I take care of the enclosure' he replied. Walking out of his dad's office, he gave Ann a kiss on her cheek and he closed the door behind him.

Now that his son left, he could see her face and he was right: something was wrong.

She tried to sound good and to hide the redness around the eyes due to the fact that she cried. Christopher understood she needed few minutes alone with her husband to talk about something important but since he left the office she wasn't able to move a muscle of her body or to say something. Bobby started to walk over her.

'Annie, what's the matter?' he asked, caressing her face. She didn't say anything, she just hold his hand and walk over the couch, followed by him, and they sat. 'Oh God, honey you cried.' he said. He knew her better than anyone, she tried to cover it but it wasn't enough. She lowered her face so he couldn't see her. Bobby was holding her hand and with the other he raised her face. 'Please, talk to me' he whispered.

She took a deep breath and she started. 'I need to tell you something but I don't know where to start'.

'Annie, you're scaring me. What's wrong?' he asked and she knew he really was scared. 'You can tell me anything. If you have problem, we'll face it, together' he continued.

*This is not a problem, I just don't know what's gonna be your reaction of it* she thought.

'Bobby…' she started, 'I'm…I'm pregnant' she whispered.
