After the duo finished the last of their stolen fruit, Finn let out a sigh of contentment it was nice to eat some food even if that said food had been stolen and although Jake had assured him it was fine there was a pang of regret looming in the pit of Finns stomach, a nagging voice telling him he did something wrong.
This feeling confused Finn greatly, as far as he was concerned stealing was okay. After all, his father stole princesses, didn't he? And he seemed okay with it and Jake seemed to think nothing of stealing so why was Finn the only one worrying about it? perhaps he could ask his father when they were finally reunited.
'If we're reunited'
At that thought, Finns mood dampened instantly, the once happy demeanour he had whilst eating had vanished. The sudden reminder his dad wasn't there and the negative thoughts that swam in his mind made the young boy anxious, what if they never found his father? What if they never saw each other again because Finn wanted to explore?
Discarding the banana peel on the floor next to him, Finn hugged his knees together, he began to regret running off especially after Ice King had allowed him to go outside despite the fact he claimed it was dangerous and now here Finn was feeling bad about the whole deal.
As Finn sat in silence, Jake seemed preoccupied with the stolen goods, stuffing them in his face like he hadn't eaten before. Upon noticing Finn had been awfully quiet, an eyebrow raised as the dog nudged the boy in the side, pulling him out of his thoughts and slightly startling him, before Finn could utter a sentence, Jake began speaking.
" Hey, you okay man? "
Finn only offered a nod of the head, muttering a weak 'yeah' instantly Jake knew he was lying. Setting the food aside, he turned to Finn.
" Look, if the whole stealin' deal is bothering you- "
Jake stopped in mid sentence, seeing Finn shake his head, he waited a moment for a response from the child after a moment Finn let out a sigh, laying his legs out as he slumped on the candy wall behind him.
" I really miss my dad, that's all. "
At those words, Jake paused a look of confusion appearing on his features as if he had forgotten something the suddenly he snapped his fingers, laughing a little as he face-palmed.
" Aw, man! I totally forgot 'bout that! "
Those words didn't make Finn feel any better, seeing the child's disappointed look Jake instantly placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, offering a bright smile as if to cheer the other up.
" Hey now, I said I was gonna help you and that's exactly what I'm gonna do! "
Finn couldn't help but smile at Jakes words. " Yeah thanks Jake.." At Finns reply Jake only chuckled, ruffling the child's hair as he stood from the ground.
" Sure thing kid, 'sides, we're friends now and friends help eachother out right? "
At Jakes words Finn instantly brightened up, his sour mood fading replaced by joy at the thought of finding Ice King and gaining a friend. " Yeah! You're right Jake " the boy chimed his enthusiasm returning.
" 'Course I'm right, now let's go find your dad! "
~ o ~ Meanwhile ~ o ~
After spending a fair amount of time searching for Finn The Ice Kings frustration was growing by the moment, all he wanted was to find his son and it seemed no matter where they looked he was nowhere to be seen.
" Argh! I can't take this! "
Since their previous conversation Ice King and Marceline hasn't spoken, their main focus was finding Finn.
" What, what!? "
Was Marcelines only reply as she held her hands up, surprised by the sudden outburst.
" You know what! We can't find Finn we looked everywhere I-i mean where could he of gone? I'm so worried I think I mi- "
" Ice King! "
Once again Marceline had the king by the shoulders, it seemed to be the only thing stopping Ice King from freaking out. "We'll find Finn, I know we will. " Offering the elder a smile she released his shoulders The Ice King didn't reply he wanted to believe Marceline but so far nothing seemed to be working, it was hard to stay positive when nothing was going right.
" Besides, how far could be of gone? "
Before the Ice King could reply, a familiar voice reached his ears making the man freeze in place.
" Jake isn't that stealing!? "
He could recognize that voice anywhere.
" Did you hear that!? "
The Ice King exclaimed, gripping ahold of Marcelines arm, excitement taking over him that did sound like Finn and since there was no way of telling otherwise the only option was to see for himself,
Without waiting for Marcelines response he grabbed ahold of her arm, instantly hoisting her into the air as he began flying in the direction of the voice.
After a few moments of flying The Ice King grew worried, he had followed the direction the voice came from yet there was no sight of Finn, he could of sworn he heard the boy so where was he?.
Stopping in mid flight, The Ice King let out a rather panicked cry, his eyes darting across the ground in hopes Finn would be near by. Thankfully, The Ice King saw something he instantly knew belonged to Finn, the boys trademark hat the one he never took off and just then the Ice King could only come to one conclusion; he found Finn.
Releasing Marcelines arm, The Ice King began waving frantically as he called Finn.
" Finn, Finn! "
The Ice Kings frantic calling was enough to grasp the boys attention, when hearing his name Finn turned instantly a look of shock on his face when he realized it was his father calling him, that shock soon melted into joy as Finn went to approach the other, however he was stopped in his tracks by an outstretched arm.
It was at that moment the Ice King soon realized Finn wasn't alone, the mans eyes lay upon a dog that was with him and upon seeing this dog Ice King let out a groan, yes, he found Finn but unfortunately he was with the one person he really didn't want to see.
Jake the dog.
~o~ Finns POV ~o~
The atmosphere seemed to brighten instantly after Jakes reassurance, Finn no longer felt bad about stealing and he was more happier then he had ever been since he was separated from Ice King.
The two had spent some time talking to one another although they had been friends forever and though Jake had done most of the talking Finn was more then happy to hear the dogs stories, after a few moments one particular question had come up.
" Hey Finn, you never told me who is your dad anyway? "
That very question seemed to baffle Finn, whilst they've been together for a whole Finn hadn't even once mentioned The Ice King was his father, he wasn't even sure if he should but Jake was his friend right, so it should be okay to tell him.
Before Finn could utter a response he realized someone was calling his name, turning around Finn saw the one person he'd wanted to reunite with; his father. Finn stood in place uncertain how he should react, of course he was more then happy to finally see him again but he seemed overwhelmed with so many emotions he simply didn't know what to do.
However before Finn had the chance to do anything. Jake had pulled the boy behind him in a almost protective manner it seemed Jake recognized The Ice King, judging by the sour look on his face he clearly had something against him.
"Jake? What ar- "
Jake cut Finn off, glaring at the man before him.
" Stay behind me Finn, I'll deal with this creep. "
Jakes words left Finn baffled, did Jake know his father? And if so why hadn't the Ice King mentioned him before? Jake clearly had some kind of problem with him but what?
So many questions left unanswered and as the Ice King approached the two Finn could only hope his father had the answers.
