~Chapter 10~
The wind blew in his direction, pulling my scent to him. I saw his nostrils' flair at its familiarity. The way he stared at me caused my body to shiver. It had been years since I saw him last. At one point I had even heard that he had died. Though I knew better than to believe any rumor, I couldn't help hope that he had died. But here he was, standing there, gazing at me with his cold, heartless eyes. Eyes that had once shown love and compassion, now only showed anger. Kisu looked between the two of us. The air was stiff with uneasiness and hatred.
"Kana." His voice was harder than it had been when I was a pup. No sign of caring at all was left to him. This man, this wolf, who had once been a person I looked up too, had become the thing I despised the most. He took a step towards me, his massive dark colored paws crushing the green grass. I stood up straight, trying to look as fierce as he did. Trying to look strong, but my body faltered slightly as a throbbing pain erupted from my burns. He looked me over from his distance.
"What happened to you?" He asked gruffly. I lifted my head up high, ignoring the pain from my burns.
"What do you care?" Kisu and Kawa took in deep breaths of air. My father just gave me a wolfish smirk, sending my blood boiling through my veins. Arrogant prick. Tsume stepped closer to us, coming up to my flank.
"Of course I care. You are my oldest child, Kana, though your attitude needs adjusting. Your just like your mother,"
"Don't speak of her, bastard!" I growled bearing my teeth at him. He seemed amused by my reaction, chuckling darkly. Kisu and Kawa stepped back a few feet leaving us room. Tsume stayed where he was positioned on left. My father glanced at him, more amusement fluttering across his strong and bold features.
"Your not strong enough to even think about challenging me, Kana. Why don't you just sit back and relax. Let those petty wounds heal before you do anything reckless. I glared at him fiercely and bent my head low in warning. I was severely pissed off now. Talking about my mother, and calling me weak. I didn't want to take his shit. The need to sink my teeth into his throat became more, and more prominent the more I stared at him. Kawa whimpered slightly.
"No fighting Papa. Please don't fight like this with Kana," She lowered herself submissively at his feet, rolling onto her back and showing her belly. This set off another round of anger through me. He looked down at her before nodding slightly. I took a step forward as Kawa leapt to her feet and nuzzled against our father with affection. I stared at her. She had always been daddy's angle, the smallest, the cutest, the loyal one. She had never left his side. Of course she would be as devoted to this monster as she was back then. I looked away from them, no longer able to think about what my poor innocent little sister the way I used to. She had made a choice to follow him. She was no longer herself, but his slave.
"Kana, perhaps we will meet again in the future," I turned to look at my father, who had started to walk away with his long strides. Kawa and Kisu followed at his flanks. I stepped forward, taking two, three four steps before stopping and just watched him as he took my siblings away. As soon as they reached the other side of the meadow Kisu looked back at me, and took off into the woods, followed by my sister and father. Kisu was leading them away, but to where, I had no idea.
"Kana, who where they?" I turned to Tsume, who had pulled on his human mask. I pulled my on also, looking down at the grass.
"Kawa is my little sister, and they other was my father," Tsume looked at me, not seeing what the big deal was over this encounter. I sighed and sat down in the field.
"Here, i'll tell you whats going on..." Tsume sat across from me, waiting for my story. I took a deep breath before starting the tales of my past.
