Jeff sighed as he looked around the small North Carolina Airport. He had a couple days off before he and Ruby needed to be back on the road. Walking through the airport he caught sight of Matt and Reby, Matt jumping up and down like a fool when Ruby ran to him. Jeff just rolled his eyes, the only person who loved Ruby as much as Jeff was Uncle Matt.
"Uncle Matty!" Ruby jumped into his embrace. Matt lifted her into his arms and hugged her, moving her to the side so that he could hug his little brother. After Matt let him go Jeff moved to Reby, who wrapped her arms around him.
"How was Europe?" She asked excitedly. She always wanted to know about their wrestling trips.
"It was tiring. A lot of work." Jeff got a glare from his brother. He had been beating around the bush with Matt for the past couple of weeks on his status with Randy.
"Well, we better get back," Matt interjected, "So we can hear all about the trip." Matt looked directly at Jeff.
"Fine." Jeff rolled his eyes and picked up their bags, following Matt.
Reby only chuckled, knowing full well what was going on, but focusing her attention on her young niece, who remained oblivious to the silently fighting brothers.
When they all got into Matt's SUV they headed towards Cameron, where Matt and Jeff's houses sat a mear stones throw away from one another deep in the woods.
"Reby, sweety, how about you help Ruby unpack and watch her while Jeff and I take care of some things." Matt said, causing his new wife to laugh.
"But I would like to hear all about these things." She giggled, turing in her seat to look at a slightly blushing Jeff. He knew what was coming next. "Such as how big is this particular thing and who exactly is giving the thing and who is receiving the thing." Reby had never been shy about sex. The only thing holding her back now was the fact that Ruby sat next to Jeff in the back seat.
"Reby!" Matt shouted with a disgusted look on his face. "I do not need to know these things about my little brother and his…..thing."
Jeff started cracking up. "Well, Reby, you know how much I've always enjoyed receiving things my whole life, like presents, and that isn't any difference in this case."
Reby only replied with a loud laugh and Matt replied by banging his head on the steering wheel at a red light.
"This is not okay. I do not need to know these things." Matt mumbled to himself.
Once they pulled into the drive way, splitting off to Jeff's part of the driveway leading up to his house, they got out, Ruby excited to be home for now and running to her swing set in the open back yard.
"Why don't you guys do your 'man talk' and I'll watch the little one." Reby said before leaving the guys to unload bags and take them into the house.
Jeff's house was…well Jeff. The color scheme of the living room was gray and purple, the kitchen was a light aqua color, and each bedroom had its own theme. Jeff's bedroom continued the living rooms of being purple and grey, Ruby had insisted on her room being lime green and black, and the other rooms all had some sort of Jeff's personal touch. Bathrooms included. Matt and Jeff unloaded the bags and sorted through the house in silence, waiting to have 'the talk' when there would be no distractions. Once clothes were in the wash, food was starting to cook, and the TV was on, Jeff grabbed two beers from the fridge and went for the large open space that he called a living room. Handing Matt his beer, pretending to be into the Supernatural rerun on TV so that he didn't have to talk about Randy with his brother, he sat down next to Matt. This could get weird very fast.
"So," Matt had that overly big brother tone in his voice. Well damn, Jeff wasn't going to get away with not talking about this. "You and Randy?" Matt's eyes never left the TV while he spoke and took a drink of his beer.
"Yep." Jeff mimicked his brother and took a drink, staring straight ahead.
"In Europe?" Again, a short question that had a lot hanging on it.
"Yep."
"And, is he…..good to you? Like…nice I guess?" Matt didn't know how to handle Jeff dating a man and he was trying his best to come up with the correct questions.
Chuckling a little Jeff answered. "Yes, Matt, Randy is very good to me, and to Ruby as well. He went with us all around and spent time with us during the entire trip. Alanna and Ruby hit it off and so did we I guess you could say."
"Jeff," Matt finally faced Jeff. "You know I have no problem with Randy, he's a cool guy, but we all know how he had the anger issue when he was younger, and sometimes those things come back….."
Jeff just stared at his brother. Matt had never been concerned about Randy's old anger issue when he knew Jeff would be around Randy, but all of the sudden he cared about something Randy hadn't had symptoms of in years?
"Matt, Randy hasn't dealt with the IED in years, not since Alanna was born. Sometimes he gets a little anxiety when it comes to his daughter, but the anger isn't there anymore."
Matt face remained unmoving. "I know, but now that your involved with him I need to know these things. Jeff, you haven't been with anyone or dated since Beth," Jeff visibly winced at her name being spoken aloud. No one had really said her name to his face since she had died a year ago. "And I want to make sure that you are sure about this, about getting seriously involved with someone new."
"Matt," Jeff sighed. "This is new to me. Not just dating a guy but dating someone in general. Randy and I have only been doing this thing for a couple of weeks and we just want to see where it goes. And right now it's going a really good place."
"But we all know how he is. Sometimes he can be impulsive and so can you."
This had Jeff stunned, never had Matt not supported him. Jeff expected his brother to be on his side even in this, but he was way wrong. "Are you saying that we ran into this thing as a fling? That it wont last?"
"That's not what I'm saying at all. I just think you need to visualize the pros and cons of being with this person, for you and Ruby, and see how it turns out. If the pros are more than the cons then I am one hundred percent with you, but if you have doubts at all maybe you should slow it down a little." With that Matt got up and walked towards the patio sliding doors on the wall, opening it. "I'm gonna get home and let you and Ruby have some time to wind down, but think about what I said." Before he walked y]out he turned again. "Listen, why don't I take Ruby for a bit, you are coming to North Carolina in two weeks right?"
"Yes." Jeff replied. The tour ran them straight through North Carolina before moving towards the west coast.
"You can spend that time with Randy and think about whether this is a serious thing or not. And get some time to yourself while you work for a bit. I still have some of her things and her room is still all set up." Matt said.
Jeff only nodded in reply. Perhaps he could think more clearly with Ruby not buzzing around him, and she needed some time to wind down anyways. This could be a good thing. Jeff could get some time to himself, and Ruby could get time with her favorite uncle.
He walked out, sending Ruby after him. It was getting dark and almost bed time, he needed to get Ruby in bed and call Randy like he had promised to do before he got on the plane.
"Come on sweetie, let's get you dressed for bed. We gotta get ready to be on the road again soon."
Ruby only replied with a yawn.
After getting Ruby to bed and singing her the song she liked so much Jeff changed into his flannel pants and walked to the living room shirtless, grabbing his phone and dialing Randy's number and sitting down on the couch, the images on the TV cutting through the dark.
"Hello, beautiful." Randy's voice greeted him after a couple of rings, causing Jeff to smile.
"Well hello to you, too. How are you enjoying your days off before we go back out again?" Jeff asked.
"Just fine. Got Alanna asleep, just enjoying the peace and quiet at the moment."
"That's always good." Jeff said, letting his mind fade to what Matt had said earlier. "Listen, Matt is going to take Ruby for a couple of weeks, until the next Carolina show. Alanna won't have a play buddy, but I figured it would be good for her to spend some time home and good for us too."
"That sounds good. Alanna is sure to be a bit upset, but she needs to get some of that school work done anyways." Randy paused. "But, how is this good for us again? I thought our system worked with the girls."
"I just figured it would give us a bit more you and me time without having to worry about two girls driving Punk insane." Jeff laughed.
This seemed to satisfy Randy. "Yeah, I guess you're right. You know, I love hearing your voice and all, but I want to see your face more."
Jeff smiled, he wanted to see Randy too. "I know. It only a couple of days."
"Well you know….since Matt is keeping Ruby you could always hitch a ride to St. Louis and leave for the tour with me, in separate busses of course, but he could have at least a day together." Randy said this in a nervous way, as though he had been thinking about this for a while.
"Well, that does sound nice. And there probably is a flight leaving tomorrow in the morning…." Jeff knew for a fact there was a flight leaving because he was already on his computer looking up tickets.
"Really?" Randy sounds like an overexcited child. "You would come and see me before we go back to work?"
Jeff laughed at the younger man. "Oh, I wouldn't just be seeing you; I would be touch you, kissing you, riding you…" He let his sentence fade away when he heard Randy moan on the other end.
"So you will come?" Randy asked.
"I already have a plane ticket reserved." Jeff said, clicking the confirm button on the air line website, getting his seat.
"I guess I will see you tomorrow."
"Yes, you will. You will see me at eight in the morning." Jeff said, knowing Randy wasn't one fore mornings on his days off.
"Ill pick you up. See you later, baby. Bye."
Jeff smiled when he heard Randy yawn through the last part. "Bye."
After hanging up Jeff ran upstairs and grabbed him bag, he had already packed his touring bag and could have it sent from the airport to his tour bus no problem, but he also packed an extra duffle bag to take to Randy's. He only filled it with the absolute necessities since he would only be staying one night. After getting packed he texted Matt and filled him in on what was happening, and his brother was fine with coming in the morning to get Ruby. Crawling in bed Jeff tried to get to sleep but couldn't. This would be the first time he would see Randy's house and be in Randy's bed. He couldn't tell if he was scared or excited. Only tomorrow would tell.
Getting up early and saying his good byes to Ruby, who wasn't to happy about being woken up and 6:30 in the morning, Jeff gave her a kiss and a hug for the last time in two weeks.
"Daddy loves you. I will be back to get you on the bus in two weeks. Be good for Uncle Matt while I'm gone, okay?"
She gave a small nod and smiled. She always lied staying with Matt, especially since she had lived with him for so long. Going to Matt he hugged his brother good bye and went to the taxi that was waiting for him. Matt had promised to have his things sent to his tour bus that way Jeff only had to deal with his duffle bag.
The ride to the airport was boring, as well as the wait in line for his ticket, as well as the flight itself. Luckily it was only a couple of hours. Once Jeff got off of the flight he took out his phone, looking to see he had a couple missed calls and texts from Randy. Opening the latest text he was disappointed.
Jeff, Some stuff came up and I won't be able to pick you up. I sent a car. I have something special to make it up for you.
Xoxo- Randy
Looking in the crowd he found the official looking driver with a sign that read…dear lord. Jeff would get Randy for this. The sign said "Mr. Sweet bottom Hardy." Something Randy had laughingly called him in bed while they were in Europe.
After embarrassingly letting the driver know that he was the man on the sign and giving over his bag Jeff got into the slick black car that had Randy Orton written all over it. It was slick, black, and high class.
On the way to the house, which the driver magically already knew the address too, Jeff got another text from Randy.
When you get here just come on in. The door is open.
Xoxo-Randy
Jeff smiled, this for sure had something to do with the "surprise" that Randy had for him. After about 20 minutes of driving they pulled into a gated community that Jeff would never in his life live in, but leave it to Randy to live here. Jeff had to chuckle, their differences were all to obvious. Rounding a few corners they finally got to a cookie cutter house and pulled in.
"Thank you." Jeff said to the driver as he was handed his bag when he got out of the car. As the car pulled out of the driveway Jeff took in the house. Brown brick, brown garage doors, brown roof. Walking up the sidewalk that lead to the front door Jeff almost knocked before remembering Randy's text and just opening the door. Slowly peeking his head inside Jeff looked around, it was much more homey and warm on the inside than it was on the outside. As he walked down the hallway at the entrance Jeff took in the pictures that lined the wall. Most of them consisted of Alanna and Randy alone, a few included close friends such as Punk, Hunter, and Stephanie. Randy seemed to have a family that consisted of close friends, much like Matt and Jeff. When you worked so much and were on the road together your coworkers often turned into family.
After admiring the photos Jeff heard a sound and a voice in what he assumed was the living room area. He couldn't tell what they were saying, but one was definitely not Randy. Confused, Jeff walked down the hallway and into the spacious area of a living room.
He was immediately out of breath. Randy was there, but so was Samantha. And they were kissing. Jeff gasped as he felt tears come to his eyes. The sound drew Randy's attention, who pushed Samantha away.
"Jeff it isn't-," Randy started but didn't finish.
"I swear to god if you say 'This isn't what it looks like I will hit you." Jeff said, not able to look at Randy in the eyes.
Randy came towards him, tried to grab for his arm, but Jeff pulled away and backed up. "Don't touch me."
"Jeff please." Randy begged.
"It would be true anyways," Samantha chimed in, "Especially since it is exactly what it looks like."
"Samantha shut the fuck up!" Randy shouted.
Jeff couldn't take being in the room anymore. It was suffocating. Grabbing his duffle bag from where he had dropped it he made for the door.
"Jeff wait!"
It was to late, Jeff had already hit the front door and was making his way down the street, pulling out his phone. He would call a taxi to pick him up at the shopping center he had seen a couple miles down the road, but first he needed to call the only person he could talk to right now.
After two rings there was a gruff answer.
"Matty," Jeff let his tear come out in into his voice.
"What happened?" Matt asked sternly. He knew something bad had happened. He always knew with Jeff when something happened.
"You were right. I should have never done this."
A/N- Sorry for the cliff hanger! Hope you guys enjoy!
