A/N: Hello my lovelies! It's absolutely refreshing to be back on fanfiction after a couple of months. I'm sorry that I haven't updated much during the month of July especially since school's out. After school let out I just wanted a couple of days to relax and take some time to myself, and then my parents took us on a two week vacation shortly after which completely tuckered me out. Then I had to settle down and start studying because my dad's planning to have me take the exam to get my driver's permit and I really don't have the motivation or interest to drive so I completely slacked off so I'm catching up now. To be completely honest, I'm terrified of the exam and just the thought of driving. Anyway focusing back on this chapter, if you guys are big supporters of the Edmund and Emma storyline, as well as Emma and Edmund's individual storylines I'm going to warn you that this chapter is completely focus on the other characters so this chapter is lacking a lot of Edmund and Emma. I hope you guys don't decide to not read it because of this decision to focus on the other characters because this chapter is actually very important to all the character's story lines.

Alrighty then, on with the story!

Chapter Ten: Exposing Rocky Truths

The dark wooden cabin door burst open, slamming loudly against the nearby wall and visible within the frame of the doorway was Chloe. Her eyes noted the small group of people that huddled around a single bed, and three pairs of eyes flew from the figure that laid on the bed to her. She ignored the way their eyes narrowed at her disheveled appearance, knowing that her raven hair was twisted in knots and her eyes were still red and swollen from her tears even though she scrubbed them hard with some water and that her clothes were wrinkled and even sticking up in places from the awkward position she found herself in while she had cried.

Putting on a unfazed and tough exterior, she slid over to the bed where Emma laid unconscious. Brushing some strands of her hair away from her face she cleared her throat and asked, "How is she?" wincing at how hoarse her voice sounded.

She shifted uncomfortably when she felt Edmund's scrutinizing dark eyes snap over to her, "She's fine, just had a hard hit to the head" Lucy surprisingly answered for the three of them.

"What happened anyway?" she asked as she examined Emma slowly whose breathing was light and even.

"Drinian found her unconscious on the floor at the other end of the boat from where I was," Caspian explained, his eyes looking up from where he sat to lock with hers, "Drinian assumed she fainted since no one else was near her but her dagger was also found near her so there could be a chance that someone tried to harm her-"

"Someone harm Emma? Please the possibility of that happening is as slim as Emma learning how to swim and the possibility of that happening isn't high" Chloe retorted sarcastically.

"Emma can't swim?" Chloe froze at the sound of Edmund's warm voice. Chloe bit her lower lip as she met Edmund's incredulous eyes and she narrowed her eyes to match the intensity of his gaze.

"No. She can't." Chloe said firmly. Edmund narrowed his eyes at her but that didn't cover the slight hurt that flashed across his eyes that caused him to look down at his feet. Chloe let her eyes linger a bit on Edmund before raising them up to Lucy's whose eyes that were once transfixed unto Emma had transferred over to Edmund, concern was etched on her face but once she felt Chloe's warm chocolate eyes on her she had froze, tensed up and gave Chloe had a hard look back.

Chloe bit back the hurt that rose within her, "Never thought that the Valiant Lucy would be the type not to forgive others for their very much regretted and cruel mistakes in the past."

A solemn expression appeared on Lucy's face, "I have forgiven you Chloe. But the things that you've done made me question everything that I thought I knew about you," Chloe was taken back when a dark expression graced Lucy's beautiful pale face, her icy blue eyes were suddenly stormy, "One more thing to add, Chloe. You shouldn't throw my title at me as an attempt to strike a nerve or insult me as you never lived up to the title of 'The Just King's wife' and the commitment it had with it."

Chloe tensed immediately, her fingers closing over each other as she remembered the torrent of emotions she had felt when she had done the forbidden. Caspian's hunched form had straightened up at Lucy's words, his dark brown eyes widened in disbelief and to Chloe's dismay she saw disappointment. She turned her away biting her lip and closing her eyes to avoid Caspian's pleading dark eyes on her. She had seen the regret of showing his disappointment towards her and the way his mouth dropped open in an attempt to reach out to her. But as quickly as her vulnerable state came, it dissipated and her eyes opened remarkably flashing with anger.

"It'd be nice if someone learned the other side to the story," Chloe hissed, her pupils turning into slits and from the corner of her eye she saw Edmund clench his teeth, "The fault is to be shared, the blame is meant to be shared. I didn't mean to do it on purpose and there were many reasons that drove me to do it." When she said the word 'reasons' she glanced over to Edmund.

Lucy's stormy blue eyes softened until it returned to its original icy blue color as she finally relented to the idea of reconciling with her former friend. But the next words that Chloe uttered make her bones freeze into place, and her eyes to snap over to Edmund once again in concern.

"Maybe if you'd just hear me out or be a little more accepting of me I'd tell you the true story of what happened to Alaura Hunter" once Chloe said those words the fire in her eyes had died down in seconds and fear flashed on her face. Regretting those words she clamped both hands over her mouth mentally cursing at herself for being so foolish.

Once those words had slip through her pale pink lips Edmund's eyes darkened and his face hardened. Slowly his lean and muscular form had stood up from his chair next to the bed and as if fighting with himself from punching something to release his anger had pressed his formed fist against the side of his leg. Dangerously he approached her, furiously glaring down at the black-haired beauty.

"What did you say?" he asked in a low and threatening voice and when Chloe didn't respond, "Are you trying to play with me?"

Once again Chloe kept her mouth shut only for it to open to emit a gasp when she felt her back hit the wall of the cabin, "What are you trying to say Chloe? That you know what happened or are you just pretending so you can lie to my face and play with my emotions until they eat me up on the inside?"

The silence he heard angered him even more, he rose a muscular arm and there was a loud sickening sound of his fist meeting the cabin wall. Chloe winced visibly as he trapped her from the side and her breath came out heavy and uneven when her head brushed the inside of his wrist, realizing that he was only centimeters away from actually making contact with her face. There was a soft gasp from across the room coming from Lucy, her doe-eyed blue eyes widening in shock and her small hands covering her mouth. And Caspian seeing how flushed and angered Edmund was and how Chloe radiated long meter waves of fear that hit him hard with concern had stood up, his arm was raised with caution.

"Edmund..." Caspian said slowly in a warning voice but paused in his action as once Chloe shocked him with her blunt words.

"Did you not believe what Aslan told you?" Chloe's voice was shaking but there was confidence in her words, and once again Edmund narrowed his eyes down at her "He never lies unless you're implying that he is. What he told you was true, you can deny it all you want but it's true."

Edmund's arm loosened visibly and he closed his eyes, "I don't believe you."

Chloe pursed her lips, "You only know a portion of the truth. I know everything even if you don't believe me, you know that it's true." She saw the struggle on his face.

"Edmund?" Caspian mutter again but this time in confusion, "What is she talking about?" He glanced between Chloe and Edmund, his eyebrow pressed together in worry.

Chloe's eyes hardened as Edmund's arm fell to his side, his anger disappearing in place of defeat, "Tell them Edmund. Tell them the exact words Aslan told you about Alaura." Her voice was challenging and harsh that made Lucy look at her disapprovingly. Even though she exuded confidence, she honestly had no idea what Aslan's words had been towards Edmund. All that had been confirmed by Aslan towards her was that he had visited Edmund concerning Alaura.

Edmund exhaled and inhaled deeply as he uttered the words that haunted him since he returned to Narnia, "Edmund I pray that you do not lose hope but the Alaura, the girl you know and grown to love from your previous journey into Narnia is gone."

"What?" Lucy breathed out, shock stilling every nerve from her body, "Gone? Gone as in what? As in she's de-"

Edmund cut his sister off with a glare, "Don't say the word, Lu." Lucy clamped her mouth shut, her eyes still wide with shock.

Hesitantly, Lucy turned to face Chloe who was still slumped against the wall trying to even her breathing, "How did you know? About Alaura I mean."

"Aslan has his ways," Chloe shrugged and brushed her hair back over her shoulders and down her back, "But I won't bother explaining since it's obvious that I can't be trusted and my presence here is obviously unwanted so my purpose here is not important to any one of you."

Lucy shook her head in dismay but her anger towards Chloe had disappeared, feeling somewhat guilty of letting go of her before she could let her friend explain her side of the story. Unable to face Chloe with an apologetic expression on her face, Lucy decided on staring at the ground silently chewing on her bottom lip letting the news of Alaura sink in. When it did, Lucy turned away from the people and closed her eyes to seal her glazed eyes away from the world and to let the tears that had built up too much spill on her rosy cheeks. She didn't know why she was suddenly crying, maybe it had been because she knew how kind and loving Alaura was? How good of a friend she was? Or maybe it was because Alaura had brought back the brother she had loved before he had completely sealed himself from the world. Lucy peeked through her hair that formed a curtain around her to glance at her dark-haired brother who had tensed as Caspian laid a comforting hand on his shoulder. She feared the idea that Edmund might close himself off again, but what she feared more was the high possibility of that happening.

Chloe stared blankly at Lucy's obvious weeping form then glanced over to Emma whose skin was pale in comparison to the Lucy and whose rosy cheeks lost its rosiness. Guilt stabbed her in the heart at the fact that Lucy was weeping for what she believed was a lost friend when in fact, the "lost" friend was in the very room. It hurt even more when she glanced over to Edmund who had shoved Caspian's large hand off his shoulder, his dark eyes meeting hers for a fleeting second before he hastily made an exit. To know that she was the one causing the hurt and pain inside him again was beginning to become unbearably. And mixed emotions flooded through her when Caspian met her gaze. She had stiffened, remembering the disappointment in his eyes when she had pegged him to be different than the others. She took a clumsy step back when he reached out to her, her hard eyes pinning him to one area.

"Don't" she said harshly.

Caspian sighed, he had brought his hand up to tousle his hair then brought it down. His eyes met Emma's still form and pain flashed across his brown eyes. Chloe's cold exterior softened when she remembered his and Alaura's relationship, according to Aslan's words had been a comforting and sibling type relationship and although she had no siblings of her own she could still imagine the pain of losing someone who'd always been a shoulder for them. Caspian turned back to her and opened his mouth and immediately she raised an arm, holding up her index finger with a determined look on her face.

"I said don't, Caspian" Chloe said this time with an eyebrow raised. Caspian in turn, raised his eyebrow as she lowered her arm and tucked it above her other arm which laid across her ribcage.

"I thought you wanted apologies" Caspian said with an amused tone, his eyes flickering over to Lucy then to the door indicating Edmund. Chloe pursed her lips and thought about it, she didn't want apologies, she wanted to be accepted but more importantly she wanted forgiveness from the one person that loved her from the beginning.

"I don't want apologies," Chloe stated with a shrug, and looked away, "Just to be heard."

"Then you know how I currently feel then," Caspian told her knowingly and her jaw slacked for a moment at the realization that he had used her own words against her then snapped it back shut, blushing when she saw the smile on Caspian's face. Chloe tilted her head when Caspian didn't speak further, when the silence dragged on she let out a groan and uncrossed her arms, throwing it up and to the sides.

"Okay what?" she exclaimed. Caspian smiled at her before turning to Lucy who stared at them in confusion with bloodshot eyes, flushed cheeks and a redden nose.

"Lucy, would you mind leaving us alone for a moment?" Caspian asked stared a Caspian as she began walking forward towards the door but made no indication that she was going to speak as she made her way out the door. Chloe stayed put as Caspian brushed past her to close the door that she had swung open when she first entered the room then leaned against it.

"I didn't think differently of you. You should now that by now when you told me straight up that you and Edmund were married, I already figured that when Edmund fell for Alaura that something horrible must have happened to his former wife I just didn't know it until now."

"You still looked at me with disappointment," Chloe pointed out sharply, "You thought differently of me, just admit that to me Caspian." She said in exhaustion.

"I didn't think differently of you, Chloe" Caspian looked angered, "I was disappointed not because of what you did but because it involved with betrayal."

Chloe scrunched her nose and stared at him, "What?"

Caspian sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, "I don't particularly like the idea of betrayal. If you remember the Pevensies returned to Narnia because I needed their help to reclaim my throne. Betrayal to me is something that I don't understand and why people do it, which is why I hate it. I lived in a lie for most of my life, being raised by someone who I thought cared about me when all he cared about was power and wealth. What made it worse was I was living under the care of a person that betrayed my father who was related to him, I was living under the care of my father's killer. He took my trust and stabbed me in the gut the moment he found that I was useless, I was betrayed. The moment I found out I was living my entire life a lie, I felt betrayed and it was the worst thing I ever felt."

Chloe stared at him with her mouth agape, "Edmund betrayed his family too but he was under the influence of pure evil but his reasons were understandable. Yes I was disappointed that you betrayed people, but I knew that you had reasons that I can understand and so will others."

"So because I had understandable reasons, reasons made by the person I am," Chloe whispered, her hands shaking suddenly, "You didn't think differently of me."

Caspian smiled at her and nodded. Chloe laughed slightly but the smile that made its way up to her face disappeared quickly.

"Are you sure that you won't think differently when I expose my side of the story?" Chloe asked uncertainty evident on her face and when Caspian nodded slowly she laughed and shook her head, "Will just have to test that out."

When Caspian tilted his head to the side, his eyes examining her form trying to perceive what she was hinting at. Just as she opened her mouth an ear-splitting scream filled the room. Chloe looked to the side to see Emma, beads of sweat trickling down her face and down her neck and in her fists were the white bed sheets.

"No!" Emma shrieked, "No! Please!"

Caspian snapped his head back and made a move towards Emma, moving away from the door but Chloe was quickly to grab his shoulders, "Chloe, Emma-" he tried to say and tried pulling away from her firm grasp but Chloe glared at him making him still in his attempts.

"I just want to say this," Chloe frustrated with Caspian's attempts to look at Emma had grasped the sides of his face so he was facing her, "Before I left Narnia I fell pregnant," Caspian's eyes widened for the millionth time that day, "But the baby didn't belong to Edmund. I didn't just stop there, I helped those responsible for the destruction of Cair Paravel."

Just as she said the last few sentences, Lucy had burst in the room after hearing Emma's screams long enough to hear Chloe's words to Caspian. Lucy froze in her steps in helping Emma, her eyes meeting Chloe's almost as if they were both remembering that fatal day then tore her eyes away to grasp Emma's thrashing arms and trying to pin them down. Lucy grunted as Emma's hand freed from Lucy's hold and smacked against Lucy's cheek.

"Emma! Emma stop!" Lucy cried out grasping the hand that hit her while dodging her kicking legs, "Caspian!" she called out for help.

Chloe dropped her hands from Caspian's face biting her lower lip as he stared at her in complete shock. Chloe's heart started beating unevenly when silence from Caspian dragged on and she looked up at Caspian almost pleadingly, "Caspian?"

"Cas!" Lucy called out and grunted again, "Caspian!" Lucy called out again and Caspian blinked before moving away from Chloe to move to Lucy's side, effectively stopping Emma's legs from kicking further.

"Emma!" Caspian yelled out, "Emma stop it!" After a few more thrashing minutes, Emma stilled once more, her breathing once again even. Satisfied, Caspian swiped the palms of his hands down the sides of his trousers, "Chloe-" he began turning back around then stopped when he saw Chloe was no longer slumped against the wall like she had been for a long time. Then his eyes met the slightly opened door realizing that she had fled the scene moments after he left her side, hearing movement from the side he looked at Lucy who was staring at him accusingly.

"Why didn't you tell me you forged a nice relationship with Chloe?" Lucy asked almost teasingly. Caspian blinked before laughing and shaking his head, "What? I'm being serious here."

"I didn't forge a relationship with Chloe, it happened naturally," Caspian laughed, "She needed someone to see her the way she was before the incident in the past labeled her as 'enemy', I saw that. I guess she found that I was the person that wouldn't make harsh judgments about her and seeing I hadn't known about her past, or her in general, made it easier for her not that I minded."

A pained expression crossed Chloe's face, her eyes remained pinned on Edmund's form as he turned harshly away from her and towards Emma. Her breathing turned heavy as she recognized the soft gleam in his dark eyes as he grasped Emma's upper arms, steadying her then swiftly turning her around so she faced him. Even with the soft gleam in his eyes, she could see inside that he was torn with his feelings. Edmund's large hands had a firm grip on Emma's small wrists as he jammed the key into the key hole to unlock the cuffs around her wrist.

Caspian had watched her blankly, his eyes sometimes flickering over to Edmund and Emma then back to Chloe to gauge her expression. His eyebrow scrunched together as locked into action quickly disarming her opponent that towered over a young, unarmed man. Chloe screwed her face almost in disgust as the young man she saved had grasp unto her and uttered words that Caspian couldn't make out from the large distance they had between them. His eyes switched back to Edmund and Emma remembering Chloe's and Edmund's quarrel as they made their way out from where they had been locked up. He remembered Chloe's pleading and almost desperate eyes and how eager Edmund had been to escape her presence. He remembered how Chloe bluntly told him that she had done something unforgivable towards the Pevensies, but seeing her pained expression and how quickly she sprung into action to save someone had him questioning whether Chloe was the bad person they described her to be.

Chloe let out a breath, turning her head slightly to the side and let out a shocked gasp as her eyes met the eyes of another slave trader. She stumbled back due to the firm hold the young man had on her. She saw the light reflect from the sword the slave trader held in his hand and cowered back. When no impact came on her, she peered up surprised to find Caspian's built form in front of her mimicking what she had done earlier after he had brought up the side of his blade to shield himself and Chloe from the impact of the blade and quickly disarming him then making a deep gash at his torso. Caspian waited until the slave trader dropped to the ground before sheathing his sword and turning around to face Chloe not at all surprised to find her eyes shining at him accusingly.

"Why did you do that?" Chloe breathed out roughly after ripping the young man's hand from her body, "I'm sure Edmund wouldn't mind it if you told him that I died during the battle with the slave traders. That you let me die because lets face it, no one would care if I died because of all the horrible things I've done towards Narnia and them. I'm nothing but a traitor."

Caspian couldn't help but feel sorry for her, he saw the desperation behind her flaming eyes to escape the past that continued to follow and haunt her. Chloe dropped to the ground to wipe the blood from her sword, she gripped the handle of the sword firmly nearly turning her knuckles as she let out her frustration.

"Everyone keeps telling me that you are a bad person, Miss Chloe," Caspian admitted and pursed his lips when he saw her cringed, "I tried to believe that but after what I saw, I stopped believing that you are a bad person." Chloe paused in her actions, letting her fingers loosen as she spared a look at him.

"Are you actually offering you friendship to me?" Chloe whispered harshly, her guard was up high and he couldn't blame her. Chloe rose back up on her feet after he nodded and sheathed her sword, "Why?"

"You didn't nothing to me," Caspian simply said, smiling when he saw her jaw drop a bit, "It wouldn't be fair to treat someone badly when they did nothing to hurt me. Do you not want to accept my friendship?"

Chloe shook her head trying to shake off her disbelief and smiled a genuine smile, "No! No it's just that..." she paused, "Thank you. I needed that."

Lucy's face dropped slightly at his words, "Why didn't you mention it to me?"

"Seeing that you didn't accept Chloe, I didn't feel the need to mention her or bring unwanted tension among us" Caspian frowned and then lifted his hand to pat her head which she squeaked at, "She's not a bad person Lucy."

Lucy pursed her lips, "I know Caspian...well I used to know. She was my best friend back in the palace," she said mockingly at Caspian who smiled down at her, "It's just hard to get past what she did to actually see her as the best friend I loved and adored."

Lucy spared another glance at Emma who calmed as minutes passed, "I actually have something to say to Chloe, do you mind if I go first?"

Seeing confusion in Caspian, Lucy softly smirked, "Don't you want to talk to her to explain why you didn't respond to her confession?" Caspian's eyes widened and horror masked his face as he realized his mistake and Lucy let out a laugh laying a gentle hand on his shoulder, giving it a soft squeeze in an attempt to calm him. Then she drew in her bottom lip, her eyes moving to Emma's form then returned back to Caspian holding an overwhelming amount of pain that immediately caused Caspian to wrap his arms around her, pulling her to his chest as she began to let out quiet sniffles.

"Do you believe it?" Lucy muttered quietly and she felt Caspian's arms tighten around her, feeling the same hurt she was currently feeling.

"I wouldn't question Aslan's words," Caspian replied reluctantly when he felt her tears soaking into his tunic, "But I find it hard to believe that she's gone."

Lucy pulled away, wiping her tears away with her thumb and letting out a soft laugh in embarrassment. Sniffing and pulling strands of her hair from her face she looked up and asked, "How are you?"

Caspian forced a smile, "I'll be fine," his hand pressed against Emma's calf lightly drawing patterns on it, "I will admit that I do feel a bit empty."

Lucy gave him a watery smile and strode away, her hand twisting the doorknob then she pulled the wooden door open feeling relieved as the salty sea air filled her nostrils. She used the sleeves of her tunic to wipe away the remaining evidence that she had been crying then wandered off in search of Chloe, her eyes briefly catching Edmund's lone form against the outside wall of the cabin where Emma and Caspian remained. His eyes were closed and his lips were turned in a frown, it looked as if he was drinking in the sunlight. Like how the air pushed her hair against her face, it tousled Edmund's dark brown hair. Lucy pursed her lips, taking a step forward wondering if she should disturb him but then backtracked deciding that he needed time and space alone.

From the corner of her eye she caught a flash of Chloe's dark locks, Lucy began to follow her. Chloe sensing someone behind her had paused in her steps and whirled around, her eyes turning from curiosity to wonder at the sight of Lucy. She was tense, her shoulders were rigid and her back was straight. Lucy let silence drift in and out in the space between them before deciding to speak up.

"I know you probably won't answer me," Lucy stated confidently, "But I'm still asking because hopefully this would be a step towards moving on from the past and a step towards giving you the opportunity to tell me your side of the story so we'd return to being the best friends we were in the past"

Chloe quirked an eyebrow not letting her shock show and ruin her composure, "Go ahead and ask."

Lucy nodded not knowing why she suddenly felt nervous in front of Chloe, "What exactly happened to your pregnancy and the baby after you disappeared?"

A/N: I'm sorry because I know there were basically no Edmund/Alaura/Emma moments in the chapter. I know you guys probably wanted to see Edmund/Emma after Emma fainted and because Emma finally got a clear memory of Edmund from "Bad Boy". Trust me, I honestly wanted to write it in this chapter on Emma's reaction towards what she saw but I wanted to focus more on the other characters, to kinda bring into view their story. I also wanted to show you guys that I will also be focusing on Chloe/Caspian and Chloe/Lucy throughout the story too and not ALL on Edmund/Emma (Alaura). I know you guys are probably wandering "Where the heck is Eustace?" well, since I have not much of a storyline for Eustace, I'm only bringing him in the story when he actually appears in the movie and I will be moving forward from there by adding my own twists.

As you can see from this chapter, the reason why Edmund is very firm about Emma not being Alaura is because he believes (even though he's still denying the fact) that Alaura is "gone", in his interpretation she is dead. This is all I can give so far because this will be explored next chapter. Haha I hope you guys caught on to my wording when Edmund stated Aslan's words, if you did, I give you fanfiction cookies!

Also Lucy and Chloe's relationship will be explored next chapter and more of Chloe's past is revealed. I don't know if it will be in the next chapter or future chapters but there will be a scene between Chloe and Caspian regarding her confession but I think you guys already know that. I'm curious to what you guys think of Caspian and Chloe's relationship, I know it may seem out of the blue but I was thinking about them earlier in the story which is why I included the flashback so it won't seem really out of place. Also next chapter will mostly focus on Edmund and Emma since this chapter was lacking them, and I apologize. Hopefully I make it up to you the next chapter which I am thinking should be out in a couple of days (I need to stop updating every few months).
