Chapter 10en
The headset microphone settled comfortably on Miranda's nest of black hair. She chuckled and said one sentence before the music began to play.
"Heh... not again... Oh... this ain't supposed to happen to me..."
The crowd went insane with the familiar introduction, Miranda smirking sadly. When Rogue first showed her the song he wrote a year ago, she was surprised at the feelings that were produced when reading them. They had made her love for him even stronger. Now? She hated this song with a passion. It reminded her of herself.
Rogue had his arms around her waist, head nestled in the crook of her neck. She oddly felt his heartbeat being weak and she wondered if he was sick. No one's heartbeat should be that cold.
Keep rockin', and keep knockin'. Whether you Louis Vuitton-ed up or Reebok-in'. You see the hate, that they're servin' on a platter. So what we gon' have
Rogue tugged on her chin, looking deep into her eyes. She could see pain and she instantly wanted to take him to Porlyusica, Fairy Tail's nurse. Why did he look so damn pale?
- dessert or disaster?
'Well, we already know that answer!' Miranda snapped in her mind, seperating from Rogue's hold and circling around him. She hadn't even begun singing and the crowd had been cheering her on.
I never thought I'd... be in love like this. When I looked at you my mind went on a trip. And you came in... and knocked me on my face. Feels like I'm in a race, but I only want first place.
Miranda had changed the last line and made the sentences sound past tense instead of its normal present tense. She was looking away from Rogue with her heart on rage mode. She let those feelings come out in her voice and the crowd went insane. As though they could see into her personal life. She looked around the stadium as she sung. Her eyes first landed on Sting. The blonde actually had the sense to look away. Yeah, it was his fault that she could relate to this song.
I never thought I'd... fall for you as hard as I did. You had me thinkin' about our life, our house and kids. Yeah. Every morning I looked at you and smiled. Cause boy you came around and you knocked me down... knocked me down.
Gajeel watched on, glaring at Rogue with a passive anger behind the red orbs. This girl had no doubt had feelings for this selfish asshole and he just stomped on her feelings. As quick as it would be to snap his fingers, Gajeel assumed. She didn't even need to sing the song with the way her notes span out.
Usually, it was the Iron Mage's policy to not fuck with taken girls. But this time was different. This time there was a dragon and his mate combined but they had never truly officially mated. Not only did that seemed like a slap to the face for Miranda, it was to their culture. Dragon's would forever treat women with respect and if respect meant putting them on a pedestal, so be it. The way Rogue seemed to not give a fuck was beyond Gajeel. It was obvious he loved her deeply with Rogue's reaction this morning.
If he did not clean up his act, there would be broken hearts and a shit ton of fire that would never be able to burn out.
Sometimes love comes around and it knocks you down, just get back up when it knocks you down. Sometimes love comes around and it knocks you down just get back up when it knocks you down. Knocks you down.
Rogue hadn't missed the switch in words and he almost snapped the headphone set in half at the thought that she used to feel this way. She still did. She had to. Why did she constantly have to torture him? To add insult to injury, before they walked out into the middle of the stadium she called the song 'so one-sided'. Not only did he flip off Gajeel when he passed him as they walked; he told her to shut up because she had no idea what the hell she was spouting about. Let's just say that conversation hadn't went well.
Rogue and Miranda were walking towards the hallway that led out into the stadium, Miranda silently rehearsing the song by humming. Gajeel and Natsu were walking towards the stairs for their balcony when they spotted the two dragon slayers. Miranda waved with an adorable smile and kept walking. On the other hand, Rogue nodded to Natsu but glared at Gajeel and without better judgement, graced him with his middle finger.
Gajeel had snickered, and glanced at Miranda with a wicked smile. He simply stated "I was better," and walked away, Rogue shaking in rage. He knew he meant in the bedroom. Just imagining her crying out another's name made his blood boil angrily. How dare she?!
The shadow mage caught up to Miranda, who was murmering to herself. "…Honestly, this is the first time I've ever agreed with Sting. This song is so one-sided."
His mouth could no longer be closed. He gave her an angry stare and spat seven horrid words, "Would you just shut the fuck up." it was more of a statement than a request.
Miranda whirled, eyes widen in shock before narrowing in the same amount of anger as his. "Excuse me?"
Rogue shook his head and bit his cheek. "You heard me. You don't even know what this song means to me so cut the crap. You don't understand anything, Miranda." His anger was rising slowly yet surely as Miranda hummed and looked away from him.
Miranda wanted to scoff at his lies. He was the one who did the hurting and she was the one taking in all of the pain. Rogue was never used like trash, he never felt the crushing love she, herself, had for him. The love she had was absolute and she knew that. That is why she was such a sourpuss this morning.
She could never fall out of love with Rogue Cheney.
"Oh, really?" She questioned tightly, throat contracting. "Enlighten me."
Rogue barked with bitter laughter at her challenging tone. Did she really think him cold and unfeeling? It was her fault, not his. He had come to that conclusion the night before. He had told her every night for the past four months that she was his. She's the one who let him go with that measly attempt of a fight. He's the one who had to deal with mating season when his mate was right there. If only she knew.
Rogue crossed his arms, canines growing. His jaw was tight. "Sorry. I do not educate dumbasses."
Now it was Miranda's turn to bark with a laugh of her own. She looked at him with the most sinister of smiles he had ever saw in his life as a wizard. "You have called me a LOT of things when you were busting me wide open in your bed, but dumbass wasn't one of them."
"Did you seriously just go there?! Really, Bitch? Really?" Miranda's jaw dropped in shock. "Yeah, I said it. I bet Gajeel was calling you that too when he was fucking you into next week."
Miranda laughed evilly and got in his face, finger pointing at him like he was caught cheating. "What, so you're watching me now? Why the fuck do you care, Bastard?! You ended it with ME! YOU backed away from ME! You sure didn't give a flying fuck when I was raped, but you're suddenly intrested in the first guy I give it up to that isn't you? Bitch, please."
Rogue felt like strangling her in that moment. Instead, she plastered a fake smile on her face as they were called out to inform.
Rogue took a deep breath, using his lungs to prepare himself to sing instead of scream. He swore he felt like she was constantly slapping him in the face. He looked up, seeing Gajeel conversing with the blonde lightning user. Rogue looked away, probably admitting defeat. Gajeel won Miranda, but by default, he thought ruefully. If he would have let himself, she would be solely his. No one else's!
'So, yes, Gajeel. Congrats. You have a girl that will forever be wanting what she can't have,' Rogue thought to himself with a wan smile, his mind wanting to shut down. He began singing then, his red eyes looking over Miranda as he circled her. Miranda stood there with her arms crossed.
I've never thought I would hear myself say: Ya'll go ahead, I think I'm gonna kick it with my girl today. I used to be commander and chief of my pimp ship flyin' high. 'Til I met this pretty little missile who shot me out the sky. Oh shot me out the sky
Hey
So now I'm crashing, I don't know how it happened but I know it feels so damn good. Said if I could go back, and make it happen fasterdon't you know I would baby if I could.
Miranda looked skeptical at Rogue who in returned the look with an eyeroll. A soft smile settled on his lips as he glanced up at the sky, knowing that she was the only one who enraptured him. He couldn't even pretend that she no longer mattered to him, he was doomed from the start.
Miss independent, oh, to the fullest, the load never to much, she helping me pull it. She shot the bullet that ended that life. I swear to you the pimp in me just died tonight. Girl, sometimes love...
Miranda joined back in with Rogue, seeing Erza mouth something to her. 'You're slipping' she said, her pale lips turning into a smile when Gray questioned her what she was saying. Miranda realized she was slipping. She was staring at Rogue for too long when he always avoided her like the damn plague.
Comes around and it knocks you down, just get back up when it knocks you down. Sometimes love comes around and it knocks you down. Just get back up when it knocks you down.
Surprisingly Sting, of all people, began rapping on top of the Sabertooth balcony. It caused both Miranda and Rogue to look up, surprised, since the blonde only liked the spotlight to himself most of the time. Sting shrugged at them as if to ask 'what did you expect' and it made Miranda want to laugh and cry because, damn, she hated him yet loved him at that moment. It was like he always interjected when things got to heated, whether it was to make matters worse or lighten things up.
Only recently had it been for the worse with this new infatuation he had with her ass, but over the years he use to come by with ice cream whenever she felt hurt by Rogue's cold words to many different questions she asked him. It was obvious she never prepared herself for the answer. Why did he have to be the bad guy now? Why did she need to be the one getting her own ice cream to cool down the burns of one Rogue Cheney?.
Tell me now can you make it past your caspers so we can finally fly off into NASA. You was always the cheerleader of my dreams who seemed to only date the head of football teams. And I was the class clown that, always kept you laughin'. We, were never meant to be baby we just happened. So,please, don't mess up the trick... hey young world I'm the new slick rick. They say I move too quick, but we can't let the moment pass us. Let the hourglass pass right into ashes, let the wind blow the ash right before my glasses. So I wrote this love letter right before my classes.
How could a goddess have asked someone that's only average for advice?O.M.G, you listen to that, bitch? Woe is me, Baby this is tragic. Cause we had it, we was magic! I was flyin', now I'm crashin'. This is bad, real bad–Michael Jackson. Now I'm mad, real mad– Joe Jackson. You should leave your boyfriend now. I'ma ask him.
Miranda took back over, putting her hands together to the beat. Rogue and Sting joined in, followed by the entire stadium. She could hardly hear the music anymore, but it was okay. The crowd was outrageous. They made the music on their own, singing a constant "woo~ oh! woo~ oh!" That took over like a storm. Her eyes couldn't believe the sight before her. It was the Grand Magic Games, but this was the real magic. Everyone alike, wizard and person, guild and guild; all were clapping together as a whole.
And she loved it.
So I gotta put the good with the bad, happy and the sad. So I'll bring a better future than I had in the past. Oh, cause, I don't wanna make the same mistakes I did, I don't wanna fall back on my face again. I'll admit it, I was scared to answer loves call. And if it hits better make it worth the fall cause when it comes around
Sometimes love comes around and it knocks you down, just get back up, when it knocks you down. Sometimes love comes around and it knocks you down, just get back up, when it knocks you down.
Rogue and Miranda were now back to back, sliding down to the floor while using the other as support. It was just Miranda singing now, her voice getting softer every second so that the crowd stop clapping to hear her.
Won't see it coming when it happens, but when it happens you're gonna feel it, let me tell you now. You see when love come and knocks you down
Oh.
Won't see it coming when it happens, but when it happens you're gonna feel it, let me tell you now. You see when love comes and knocks you down.
Yeah
The cheers and roars in the stadium vibrated through the two mages feet. Miranda smiled. Rogue stood up and offered his hand, which she took since there were thousands of people watching. The young woman bowed, Rogue doing the same. Her fake smile was addicting and blinding, causing Rogue to shudder in reflex.
He wanted her so badly.
Miranda had to stop by her hotel room really quick after the show before the GMG continued. She donned on something cute and light, switching her heels for comfortable flats.
Honestly, she would be glad when this week was over so she could hide in her house for two weeks and a month's worth of Ben&Jerry ice cream. Along with some episodes of Black Butler: Book of Circus, Legend of the Legendary Heroes and Love Stage!, the girl was set for moping time. Her feet could rest on top of her fuzzy blue pillow she used for foot aches and her back could take a breather from being strained every freaking day, whether it be from sexual activities or daily excersise or simply avoiding Sting, Minerva and Rogue like the damn plague.
She deserved that fucking break.
There was a knock on her door and she froze. 'Please, let it be Erza or Gajeel,' she pleaded in her mind as she opened her door slightly. Through the creak she saw blonde hair and icy blue eyes.
'Nooope~!' She concluded nonchantly in her mind while popping the 'p'.
She slammed the door, only to have Sting knock again, impatiently this time. "'Randa, open up!"
"I don't open the door to rapists~!" She sung casually, throwing a nice tune to it. In actuality, however; she was freaking out from left to right and she was looking for a way to open the balcony doors without it squeaking. If they made noise, Sting would know and come through the door in a flash of light. Much like Rogue's shadows.
Well if he could do that, why would he not do it now?
"Randa! I'm sorry!"
"Only my friends call me 'Randa', Eucliffe. Not bastards like you who can't take the hint that no means NO!"
She heard the ninteen year old groan silently. Miranda also heard something hit her door and then the floor outside. He must have slid down in defeat.
Outside of her room, Sting had his head in his hands. What was the matter with him? Why was he acting like this? He seriously hurt two of his closest friends all because he was in heat? That was a new low he never thought he could stoop. He ran a hand through blonde hair and took a breath. "Don't listen to me in my attempt to be forgiven 'Randa." Sting took another breath, hands beginning to shake. He spoke louder to make sure his voice carried out through her door.
"Instead listen to me when I'm trying to save Rogue's life!"
Rogue coughed heavily as he headed towards Miranda's hotel room. She's been gone for way to long and he was beginning to worry. Miranda had no idea how close he was whenever she walked home, when she spent a few hours in the woods to talk to Erza and Mystogan. There was no way he was letting her get hurt again. The shadow mage even watched her at night, melting as a shadow on her wall. He paused when a rather strong cough ripped from his chest. He ignored the blood splatters that sprayed on his hand and wiped it on his cloak without a care in the world. He brought this upon himself, by giving his mate away.
If he could just stand next to her long enough to get another whiff of her scent, the pain would ease.
"Yo!"
Rogue turned to see the blonde mage from the Fairy Tail B team. Laxus Dreyar, he believed he was called. Considering he was Miranda's cousin, Rogue felt sort of unnerved by his sudden approach. "Yes?"
Laxus paused and rose a brow at the black haired mage of Sabertooth and asked bluntly, "You know you're just killing yourself by staying away from her, right?"
Rogue's eyes widened in shock. How had he known?
Laxus shook his head and crossed his arms, looking off into the distance. "I maybe a second generation slayer, but the rules do still apply to me. Motion Sickness, Mating Season, all the works." He looked down at the shorter mage and let his orange orbs fix on the red ones below him. "I also almost made the same mistake you are doing now."
Rogue had the man's undivided attention now, unknown to him that blood dribbled from the corner of his lip. Laxus smoothly ignored it, he too remembering how it felt to not care about himself. His whole being was ripped to pieces just to make room for the heart of a girl. "I had done a terrible thing to my guild years ago. Even after that, she still loved me. I, on the other hand, thought that I was mentally crazy and thought I would eventually hurt her on a whim."
Rogue hadn't betrayed his guild, but he did feel crazy. Crazy enough that he actually considered killing Sting for using his girl. He knew he was driving Miranda into an extreme mental pain just to get even. Yes, he was crazy.
"So, after I got expelled from my guild, I dropped all communication with her. Told her I didn't care about her to make her hate me. In actuality she couldn't hate me, she was just raised to never hate. Much like Miranda is. I wanted her to be safe and happy, though."
"…What was the first sign?"
"Have you noticed how extremely pale he is now compared to before all this mess started?" Sting questioned the girl. She had finally decided to let him in. He sat on the couch, sucking on a water bottle every other minute in worry.
Miranda nodded and chewed on a piece of chocolate cake. She always ate mad calories when she was on the verge of a panic attack. Sting sighed when she got up to get her third slice. He stopped her and she pouted. He rolled his eyes and gently took the plate away from her so he could continue the conversation.
"Miranda, he's been getting angrier by the second. I can tell you've noticed this too since Ive heard your argument on the way to perform."
Miranda sighed and closed her eyes against the tears. "He snaps at me for no reason whatsoever. I don't get it, he is the one that broke up with me!"
Sting rose a brow, "I thought you two weren't together?"
"We weren't. I meant the fuck buddy thing." She fixed quickly which made Sting growl in annoyance. Miranda looked down at her fingers as she swalloed thickly. Everytime she said that out loud just stabbed her without warning. She was trying so hard to brace herself but it was not working.
The blonde stood up, outraged. "See! That's y'all problem! Y'all never confessed because you two thought that the other only thought about yourselves as a fuck buddy! Yeah, y'all fucked alright. Each other's minds!"
Miranda blinked in surprise. Since when was Sting so Pro-MirandaxRogue? Could she make a ship name for that? MiGue? RoNda? Whatever, it didn't matter. All she wanted to know was what were the symptoms of an ignored mating.
And how long would Rogue have to live.
Paleness, excessive bouts of anger. The sudden blood spurts.
"Emotional digression. One minute you feel fine and the next, you're either suicidal or on the verge of taking Miranda with you."
Rogue gulped low, cringing at the thought of ever intentionally, no desiring to hurt that girl. After knowing her for all this time, he couldn't stand the thought of ending her so quickly. He had known her for about eight years now. Eight years of wanting to protect her. Gone. Without a second thought.
It was like Rogue was on a psychotic PMS that was burning in hell for an amount of time named Perpetuity.
The Shadow Dragon Slayer shook his head in denial, "No. No, that's not right. I would never—!"
Laxus held a hand up. "Save it. I have said all of that before but the effects were still there. Keep ignoring them and you'll end up doing something you will regret."
The two stood there in a complete silence as the wind practically slapped Rogue for his indigent sense of comprehension. He was going to die if he didn't give up his damn pride and tell her that she was his. And if what the lightning mage was saying was, indeed, true, he would bring her down with her. Just when Rogue was about to question on why he was helping him out, someone called out to the Lightning Dragon Slayer.
"Laxus!"
The said blonde turned towards the femenine voice only to be attacked by a busty blonde woman. The scarred man chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her, embracing her with a certain gentleness about him. As though she were his porclein doll and if he held her any closer she would break.
Rogue watched as Laxus questioned her with a simple, "What's up, Luce?" Although he sounded indifferent, his eyes held his true feelings. That this woman was the highlights of his days and always would be.
"Laxus, why didn't you respond to any of my texts? I was getting worried about you, the games are about to resume in a few minutes." Lucy Heartphilia muttered back, burying her head into his broad chest. She had, in fact, worried. Her chocolate brown orbs tried to disguise that look of trepidation but Laxus had saw it to well. This is what Rogue would have to deal with if he did returned to Miranda's side. Her worrying for him unhealthily day and night, wanting nothing more than to please him. To make sure he never reached that certain level of a crazed being ever again.
It was causing Laxus to feel guilty every step she took beside him and Rogue did not know if he could handle that. To shoulder all of that guilt would be unbelievably suffocating. But…
Seeing Lucy jump on Laxus's back in pure love, goofiness and affection caused Rogue's mind to quiver in reconsideration.
…Maybe he could suffocate, if suffocating in this context was happily having breath stolen away from him.
