Chapter Ten

It had been a month since the apartment ordeal. Alyssa decided to start to try with her mom. She had been coming home every night for dinner. She was even playing card games after dinner with her parents again. Her mom and dad seemed to be happy. Hell Alyssa was even starting to be happy again. She loved her job and she was laughing again with her family.

It was Friday night and her mom and her had a date at a local italian restaurant. They were doing girls night every Friday. They were sitting at the table and just had ordered.

"So, I was talking to Kate the other day. Her son Caleb is back in town. Do you remember him?"

"Yea, I do. We had math together."

"He is a dentist now. You know dentist's are true family men. They only work a few days a week and make really good money."

"That's good for him. You have mention that a few times." Alyssa laughed.

"Kate says he is single and doesn't know anyone in town. Maybe you guys could go on a date. A get to know each other again date. It would be nice for you to hang out with someone besides us and it would be good for him too."

"Mom, first I never knew him really. Second, I don't want to date right now. Lets just eat our meal, ok."

"Fine, but Alyssa it would be good for you to get back out there."

"Mom."

It had been a month since his night out with Patrick. Since then Derek had been going out with Patrick once a month. Derek and Patrick would go out and have a few beers and laugh and have fun. Sometimes other friends would join them. This Friday was one of those nights. There was a handful of guys out with Derek and Patrick when a pretty girl walked by and looked at Derek.

"Dude, You should go over and talk to her."

"I don't think so."

"Man, it's been like two months. Go talk to her."

"Yea, we aren't saying date her just take her home and fuck her."

"Well last time he had a one night stand he ended up not only dating her but living with her!" Patrick said laughing

Derek looked at Patrick and punched him in the face. He then turned around and walked out of the bar.

The next day, Patrick was at Derek's door. He knew he fucked up. He knocked and waited. A few minutes later the door opened.

"What the fuck do you want."

"Derek, I am sorry. I shouldn't have teased you about Alyssa last night."

"Ya, you shouldn't have. Man, I don't want to date. I don't want to hook up, either. Patrick, want to come in?"

"Yes, thank you." Patrick entered into Derek's apartment and they sat in the living room. "Man, eventually you will have to get back out there."

"I know but I am not ready."

"Ok, but I hope you aren't waiting for her. You let her go and you were right to do that."

"I know. I don't regret what I did but I am just not ready to get back out there. Not even for a one night stand."

"Ok, dude lets play some video games!"

With that the friends started to play xbox.

A month after the girls night with her mom, Alyssa was starting to go out with some of the ladies from her office. She was making an effort to get out there and make friends. It was a Saturday night and Alyssa was out with the ladies.

"Alyssa, we need to find you a man."

"Nope, not interested."

"Come on, my husband works with man that is single and good looking."

"Lucy, thanks but no thanks. I am not in a place to date right now. You could always set up Cara with good looking and single."

"Yes please!" Cara said singing as she finished her wine. The three ladies all started to laugh.

"Ok. I will set it up for this Friday, Cara."

"Yea. Can't wait!" Cara said then looked up again, "Wait a minute! So I am just second choice! I am offended!"

"No you aren't!" Lucy said

All three women started to laugh even harder.

A few weeks had passed since Cara's blinded date. Cara was happily getting ready for date number five with good looking and single. Alyssa was on the phone with Cara.

"Tonight is the night! I need to get laid!" Cara said over the phone

Alyssa just started to laugh. "Have fun!"

"I will." Cara paused and then said, "I gotta go. He is at the door! I will tell you all tomorrow over coffee."

"Can't wait! Bye." Alyssa hung up as she walked into the kitchen.

"Who was that?" Her mom asked.

"Cara. She is on her way to a date."

"That's good for her."

"Yep."

"When are you going to start dating again?"

"Mom."

"It was just a question Alyssa." Her mom said as she held up her hands in defeat.

"Fine. If you say so." Alyssa went over to the cookie jar to get a cookie.

After a minute or so her mom started again. "I was talking to Meg the other day and Eric just graduated from law school."

"That's awesome."

"He is opening a practice in town."

"Great, I will keep that in mind when I need a lawyer."

"I could always give Meg your number for him."

"Mom. I am not ready to date. When I am and if I am I can find my own dates."

"Alyssa you just don't have good taste in men. Look at the last one you brought home."

"Mom! Don't start. Derek is an amazing guy. He is the reason I am even here. He told me to stay here because he didn't want me to have to choose! You did." Alyssa let it all out, "I am trying to make this work not for you but for him. Family is important to him. I thought it was important to me but know I am not sure!" Alyssa stormed out of the kitchen as her dad entered into the house.

He looked at his crying wife and asked,"Whats going on?" But his answer went unanswered but at the point he knew. "Nevermind, I know what happened. You pushed her again with dating or worse mentioned Derek. We made a mistake. We should have never had her choose between us."

"That man is older than her and a musician. He is probably out on the road right now sleeping with a different girl every night. Our daughter deserves better than that."

"Or maybe he is a good man that would treat our daughter right and love her."

With that Alyssa's dad walked away from his wife and headed to Alyssa's room.
