A/N: This story is still alive people! After going through a writer block on all my BL stories I came up with new ideas for this and another one! Finally: I really hope you guy like the chapter!
CHAPTER 10:
The moment was so emotional that Lizzie was crying from the moment she had seen for herself that her father was REALLY waking up: the fact that he had somehow waked moved while she had been asleep was amazing, so while Dembe had gone in search of doctor White she was caressing his cheek carefully, very aware of every bruise and cut he had, while she begged him to open his eyes.
When he did so and she saw his aqua colored eyes looking up at her again, unfocused and still not totally there, she couldn't help the grin covering her face nor the tears that still fell from her eyes.
"That's it Dad: wake up….Dad are you with me?" She said and then asked when she saw his eyes focus on her: he looked up at her in surprise and she could clearly see the questions in them…..before she heard him make some kind of sound and falling back in the darkness, leaving her once more.
Just as she saw him losing the battle against conscience she heard the door open for Dembe with Dr. White in tow. She looked at the both of them before giving Dembe a sad smile. She was afraid to see her father in that state of confusion over her being there: did he have amnesia? Was there something else wrong? If so what?
"I heard that Mr. Red has shown signs of waking?" Asked/Said the good doctor while Lizzie sat down in her seat again nodding at the doctors question looking for her own voice.
"He has… he was awake actually just now before you guys came in." Answered Lizzie with a small smile and the Doctor smiled widely at her before taking seat at the other chair in the room turning to look at her…
"That is fantastic!" Said the doctor still looking at Lizzie studying her reaction.
"It indeed is." Said Dembe in his soft deep voice, Lizzie could hear that her brother in all but blood was sad to have missed it.
"Yes." Said Lizzie still unsure of how to react.
"Why the somber attitude?" Asked Doctor White to Lizzie who answered with a question of her own.
"Is it possible that he has amnesia?" Asked Lizzie making Dembe frown before walking over to Reds bed and studying him.
"It is possible, but why are you thinking along those lines?" Asked the Doctor softly.
"He was confused when he awoke or better said he seemed to be confused that I'm here: it was as if he didn't remember me. And it scares me because if he does have and doesn't remember me who or what else doesn't he?" Answered Lizzie honestly only to feel Dembes hand squeezing her shoulder softly.
"Sister he may forget many things: he may forget his name. He may forget the things he has done in the past. He may not recognize friend from foe, but he will always remember you." Dembe told her with such conviction and straight in his voice that she couldn't help, but smile and believe him. "And if you fear what I believe you fear: don't worry I haven't forgotten anyone nor have Kate, Grey or Luli."
"Ok I didn't understand what that was about so I'm not going to pretend I did, but Elizabeth you need to understand that it's very common for people that have been in coma to be confused. He may not remember why he is in coma or something he might have said just before he lost conscience or another thousand things more. Let's stay positive: he has awoken already twice today as far as we know he might do so again and every time he does he will stay awake longer and once he is awake long enough we are taking that tube out." Explained Dr. White standing up and nodding to both Dembe and Lizzie he left the room.
As soon as he was gone Dembe took seat next to Lizzie and offered her a cereal bar causing her to laugh aloud, but she accepted it feeling hungry.
"Thank you." Said Lizzie opening it and Dembe rolled his eyes.
"Don't you mention it: I'm happy that I'm too old for getting a spranking or I would be afraid for one once Da is feeling good enough." Said Dembe huffing thinking of the times Red HAD spranked him.
"You're kidding me." Said Lizzie around a mouth-full of cereal.
"I'm not." Answered Dembe.
"But he totally adores you!" Exclaimed Lizzie.
"And you believe that due that he would let me be disrespectful to him or disobeyed him once I started to call him Dad?" Asked Dembe with a raised eyebrow.
"Ok… So if he would have raised me he would have spranked me?" Asked Lizzie not being able to connect what she knew about her father with what Dembe had just told her.
"Don't look at me that way I bet you twenty dollars that he already has and that you don't remember him doing so, plus he takes the roll of being a father serious and doesn't do things half-done." He said to lighten the mood a bit. "And I have spranked Isabella more than once myself: there is nothing wrong with it as long as you don't use to much straight and explain why you punished your child after so they understand so they can learn." Explained Dembe to an incredulous Lizzie.
"Isabella is your daughter right?" Asked Lizzie and Dembe just nodded. "Ok still processing that I'm an aunt or that Dad is a grandfather already." Said Lizzie causing Dembe to burst out laughing shaking his head.
"I'm a Grandfather, he is a Great-grandfather and you are a Great-aunt already: you forgot Elle." Said Dembe amused.
"Oooh yeah true. Still don't you think that Spranking is so last century?" Asked Lizzie to her brother.
"So are slaves, but to each their own." Was the answer she got from a Dembe that just sat there looking at her... their father.
At this Lizzie cringed inwardly and decided to let the topic fall because she was sure that they would never agree on that. And she knew how her father found Dembe and didn't want him to think about the years he was a slave. So she changed the topic to that of Dembe's education: his Bachelor's degree in English Literature and the languages that he spoke. After some time of nice conversation between the both of them Dembe told her that he needed to go and make some calls to keep everyone updated. Lizzie nodded in understanding even if disliked the idea of being left alone with her father, but just as Dembe was about to leave Aram entered with some balloons, some sweets, small bottles of alcohol, cigars and a get-well card. Aram looked sheepish at the both of them before leaving the things in their place and taking seat next to Lizzie and offering her some fruit he had brought with him for her.
"Thank you." Said Lizzie to him and he knew she thanked him for more than just the fruit.
"You're welcome….OOH! I almost forgot!" Said Aram taking an I pod and some sound system out of his pockets. "Meera told me this might actually do him good." Was the explication Aram gave her before the room was filled with classical music.
"Classical? Very original." Said Lizzie amused. "And how did your date with Meera go?" Asked Lizzie curious.
"Ok I will tell you soon, but first I have a question for you and want you to answer honestly." Said Aram seriously. "He is your father isn't he?" Asked Aram looking between her and Red, taking Lizzie by surprise.
"How did you know?" Asked Lizzie causing Aram to smile.
"I didn't, but have suspected from the beginning seeing how he acted around you and you just confirmed it for me. But don't you worry I will keep my word not even Director Cooper will know: I will even modify CODIS and such if he hasn't already." Said Aram with a grin on his face.

After spending a good amount of time talking with Aram about his date with Meera she told him about how her father was doing. Aram left as soon as Dembe came back: during an interesting conversation with Dembe about which book was better MacBeth or Romeo and Juliet Red woke again and this time Dembe was the one to notice.
"He is awaking." He said standing up and looming over Red. This time Red was greeted by Dembe's smiling face and the corners of his mouth went up in a smile of his own, even so his eyes still seemed to be clouded over.
"Dad?" Asked Lizzie unsure of herself and Red 'focused' his gaze on her before frowning and looking up at Dembe. "Dad?" Asked Lizzie again afraid, but both men ignored her and then Dembe seemed to understand what their father wanted.
Dembe picked Red's left hand up slowly before lowering it on his own open palm as soon as that was done Red started to sing into it in a sloppy way. He signed two words: she and Knows. At this Dembe smiled before answering him.
"Yes Da she does." Dembe told him and Lizzie started to feel at ease again so when her father looked her way she smiled and before Red fell asleep again Dembe said. "The box."
