Chapter 10:
The group went to the middle in the dance floor. Aster motioned in a way that made Rapunzel know that he was going to have a friendly slow dance with her. She positioned in front of him and placed her hand on his shoulder and the other on his palm as the man gracefully placed his hand on her waist and supported her hand with his other hand. The blond looked up at him with a smile and he returned it with one of his charming smiles.
"I'm sorry you had to see that." he said.
She blinked, "See what?"
He gave a half-hearted nodded to their table, "That little display of fan girl-ing the twins made. I should've told North not to invite them."
Rapunzel chuckled, "It's not your fault. Besides, I've seen a couple of girls go crazy like them."
Aster smirked, "Over Jack?" She nodded. He raised a brow, "That happens in CU?" He couldn't imagine his cousin surviving college without being flocked by a mass of fan girls. It was inevitable for men like them. He himself experienced all the running and hiding when he was in middle school up until he graduated college. It runs in the family.
The blond shrugged, "Most of them try to get his attention but I never really saw him take a glance. Sometimes he does but he looks like he's uncomfortable."
So you're trying to be nice to them, huh? "I don't blame him for that." he snorted, "Fan girls are annoying when they get terribly clingy." He rolled his eyes to where the Jack and Toothiana were. The two were having a conversation. A fun one at that considering the cheeky smiles on their faces. He looked back at Rapunzel and saw that she was looking at the two also. Her expression seemed to not care but her eyes said a bit more. She seemed a bit uneasy and envious by the sight. Guess she wants to dance with him. He always gets the girls, he thought with slight resentment. More thoughts, memories of bitterness towards his cousin rushed in his head. As if someone knocked on his head, he shook the antipathy away. That was so yesteryear, he thought to himself and made a smirk, "How about you, blondie?" Rapunzel looked at him. "Do you like Jack?"
She was taken aback, uncertain on how to say it. The man might understand it in a different perspective. She gulped; "Of course!" she stammered a bit, "Who wouldn't?"
Aster's brows rose, Who wouldn't?, he repeated in his mind with amusement, "And you like him because?"
She smiled this time, "He's smart, fun, nice, talented and really fun to be with!" she said with enthusiasm, "There's never a dull moment when he hangs out with us. He's a great friend to have." Her smile widened and her cheeks flustered.
He blinked. Not a dull moment… Now that's something I don't hear everyday. He snorted, "Really?" he said, slightly disbelieved. She gave a happy nod. He let a curt smile form on his lips. A familiar intro to a song penetrated his ears—More Than A Woman by Bee Gees. His small smile turned into a lopsided one. He opened his mouth to ask for her permission but she spoke ahead of him.
"I haven't heard of this song in a really long time!" her eyes glimmered in delight as she looked at him. He blinked a couple of times and slightly arched his brow, "Wanna dance to it?" She nodded happily and without a word, he let her twist herself, her arms crossed in front of her. They followed the choreography done in Saturday Night Fever. They both had fun; some of the guests watched them and so did their friends. Of course, they didn't do everything that happened in the movie because if they will, that would mean they would have to kiss for what seemed to be 20 seconds. They replaced that part with a little spinning and graceful footwork.
When the song was done, the guests clapped. It wasn't a real performance but they clapped. They glanced around, thanking the guests. More party songs were played and their group made a circle and they started to have a round-off dance-off. Toothiana started, Jack came next then Merida, Hiccup, Rapunzel and Aster. After a couple of songs, Hiccup decided not to join the dancing and instead take pictures and maybe a video of their group as the others danced. A couple more songs and Merida decided that it was time for her to take a break and just joined Hiccup with the pictures and cheer the others on. Now it was a battle between pairs.
A modern yet something set in the mid 1900's song was heard—All We Got by Fergie. The song had a jazzy beat to it, which made the pairs even more excited and up to the challenge. Each of them had a smirk on their faces. Aster clenched his fist, some of his knuckles making a cracking sound. His eyes were direct on the pair opposite him and Rapunzel. Jack moved his shoulders in a way as if he was ready for a fight. The two girls were just swaying rhythmically as they smiled at each other. Aster nodded at the pair and Jack immediately yet gracefully grabbed Toothiana's hand and they made their way to the middle of the circle their group made.
The white haired boy spun her. At first they were dancing in slow tango until the first chorus came where they really brought out the dance moves. They stepped back, letting the other pair take on the challenge. Aster and Rapunzel stepped forward and they made a few pulls and spins before they let the other have their second move. Hiccup made sure he was taking a video of it and not just pictures. Merida was clapping and moving along to the beat as she watched the pairs battle it out. Other guests also watched them, including North and Denver. They were rather impressed by the moves the pairs were pulling off.
"Since when did Jack learn how to dance tango like that?" Denver laughed, leaning over to North. He knew his son wasn't the type to really do ballroom dancing. At least that's what his son told him. The boy said it wasn't 'his thing'.
The celebrant gave out a hearty laugh and shook his head, "School maybe?" Denver blinked and gave a that's-possible-look as he continued to watch the battling pairs.
As Aster and Rapunzel did their thing, Jack and Toothiana clapped to the beat for them. It was supposed to be a 'battle' but Tooth just had to cheer them. Jack didn't mind because it was just a friendly dance-off… even if it was Aster he was challenging against. He rolled up his sleeves and continued to watch the pair…until his eyes just focused on the blond dancing in front of him. The smile on formed on his lips slowly disappeared. He didn't scowl or anything that made him look displeased. He was actually slightly gaping at her. Everything seemed to be a blur except her dancing figure. The music was slowly getting muffled in his ears as his own heartbeat was replacing the loud music.
Ba-dump. Ba-dump.
He held his breath when his eyes, for just a millisecond, met hers. His heartbeat became louder, clearer and faster.
Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.
He swallowed and let out a small breath out of his mouth. He breathlessly watched her. To be honest, he wasn't as attracted to her in the beginning but tonight was just a big impact. He was suddenly curious about her. He couldn't avoid looking at her; he wanted to be around her; he wanted to talk to her. He wanted to be with her. He thought about the things he did and the stuff he said with the three and he honestly felt like he could do anything with her. He could with all three of them but she's different. He wanted to do almost everything with her but not like with any other friend too. He used to look at her, stare into her eyes like there was just this friendly gravity pulling him to her but tonight, he realized it wasn't the 'friendship gravity'—it was something deeper than that. Just staring at her now, it made him want to take her hand be the one dancing with her. A part of his mind wanted to make his body take her away and the rest of his brain told him to stay put and watch her.
For a moment, he saw her smile at him.
Ba-dump!
Shit, he thought, she just smiled at me! He couldn't help but grin. It was a normal thing for anyone—any guy—even to him… it was. She always smiles at him and he thought how come he never felt this way? Was he just too dumb to realize he liked her the moment he met her or was he just to numb to feel it? Either way, he knew he does now and it won't be leaving him any time soon… or ever.
Too drowned his thoughts, Jack didn't notice the pair was already done dancing and so was the song. His pride was the least of his concern right now and just wanted to have a break. He clapped and smiled at them, much longer at Rapunzel, "That was fun!" he grinned.
Merida bumped shoulders with the blond, "Awesome as always, lassie!"
Toothiana clapped joyously and squealed, "That was amazing! You could join a contest!" she squealed, "Maybe you could join 'So You Think You Can Dance'!" she added.
North and Denver joined the group, "Or American Idol or The Voice." Denver chuckled, "Those were some moves! Your footwork was flawless!" he grinned at the blond.
Toothiana glanced at them, "American Idol? She could sing too!?" her eyes bulged open. They smiled at her and nodded, "What? Jack didn't tell you?" Aster snorted. She shook her head. She practically grabbed Rapunzel's hands and looked at her with glistening eyes, "You must sing! I will totally talk you in! I'll call my manager!" her cheeks turned pink from excitement, "We're going to make you a star!" she squealed and pulled the blond inside the mansion and disappeared into the crowd before any of them could even comment on her idea.
"She's at it again…" Jack smiled wryly at the direction where the girls went.
Merida had her brows raised from amusement, "She's one hyper lassie." Hiccup looked at her and gave her a nudge, "I think she's mentally begging us to follow her." The redhead laughed, "Nae doubt about that."
Without a word, the two of them walked into the crowd. When they stepped inside the mansion, they saw no sign of the two girls. What made it worse was that there were many people so they couldn't really see. They went around and around the first floor but there was no sign of them. Merida huffed impatiently, "Ah'll just go tae th' restroom." She muttered and turned around, heading for the restroom. The brunette followed her and stopped near the door, glancing around for any signs of the girls. He frowned when he failed to spot them and scratched his temple.
"Where are they?" he muttered to himself as he glanced some more, hoping he'd see them this time. He saw girls but they weren't the ones he was looking for. But something was odd. They were looking at him. He looked to his sides and even behind him just to make sure if he was really the one they were looking at. He stared at them and they stared back. It felt awkward for him so he broke eye contact and continued the search for Toothiana and Rapunzel but he could feel them staring still at him. Is there something on my face? He grabbed his handkerchief and wiped the lower part of his face.
Still staring.
What's wrong? His lips pursed. He ignored them and leaned on the wall. If they were trying to make him feel uncomfortable of some sort, they were definitely doing an excellent job at it. Even though they were a great distance away from him, he could hear them laughing and giggling. Their words were muffled but the laughter was audible. His cheeks flustered. What could they possibly be talking about me now? Did I do something stupid again? He grunted. This is why I don't go to parties.
Hiccup glanced to the backyard and watched people move by. He studied their gestures and the way their bodies twisted and bent, the way where and how the creases of their clothes formed, the way where their shadows sharpened and softened, the way—
"Hi!"
He turned his head and saw the girls who were staring at him. The sight of them made him swallow, "Uh… yes?" he asked, unsure.
The group of four girls glanced at each other before smiling widely at him, "We're just wondering what your name is." One said. He blinked a couple of times as if he heard her wrong, "M-my what?" his brow arched.
"Your name," another repeated, "And we were also wondering if…"
One of the girls played with her hair as she tried not to make eye contact with him for a moment but glued gazes with him anyway as if she was seducing him, "…You know, if you were single."
I've seen too many movies to know where this is going.
He heaved a slow quiet sigh. He didn't want to answer them. But I can't be rude either. A frustrated groan escaped his lips and acted as casual as he could, "It's Hiccup. Great name, huh?" he chuckled half-heartedly and rolled his eyes. He thought that maybe saying his name would make them shoo away since it wasn't really something parents would give their children.
"Yeah! It's a really cool name!" one of the girls said in a high-pitched voice.
His eyes widened. Can't they hint I was sarcastic? Sweet mother of Thor…
Another girl nodded in agreement, "Yes! It's a unique name!" she said, obviously trying to get his interest.
He held his breath, "…Thanks." He just said and glanced around looking for his friends, ignoring them… but they were just really persistent.
"How old are you?"
I swear… "What do you think?" He looked at them as he made a small forced smile and then returned to looking for the two girls.
"Are you single?"
He didn't look at them this time, "Make a guess." He said flatly, apathy slightly noticeable in his voice. He slightly tiptoed to look over the crowd. The girls giggled. It almost caught his full attention but the grip of one girl definitely took it. Soon, the other girls did the same. They tried to nuzzle onto him but he jerked back by their touch on his stomach.
"H-hey! What are you doing!?" he took a step back and covered his stomach with his arms. He frowned at them when they stepped closer to him, "Don't come near me!" his back was pressed against the wall now. There was no way for him to run until…
"Oi! Whit urr ye lassies think yer daein!?" a familiar grumpy Scottish accented voice burst in.
Hiccup and the girls glanced over to see a glowering Merida with slightly wide-eyed Rapunzel and Toothiana. He sighed in relief, "Merida!" he called, "What took you so long!?" his voice was slightly shaking and distress was evident. The redhead didn't answer him and instead glared daggers at the group of girls in front of her, "An' whit urr ye lassies lookin' at?" he arched her brow so high that it intimidated the girls, "Have nae seen a Scottish lass before?" her glare tightened but her brow remained risen.
The girls turned to Hiccup, "Is she your friend, Hiccup?"
The boy exhaled exasperatedly through his nostrils when he heard them say his name, "Yes. Actually, she's one of my best friends." He walked over to the redhead. His lips curved to a smile when Merida automatically held his arm. "Anyway, I hope to see you around." Not.
They walked off and left the group of girls. Merida's hold on Hiccup's arm tightened. Whit wis he daein' with them? Ugh, ah take back whit ah said about him fixing himself. He attracts as much lassies as Frost does. "Whit were ye daein' with th' lassies back there?" she asked without looking at him. Her gaze was locked dead on the sofa sitting across the room. There was silence between them for a couple of moments before Hiccup answered her.
"They came to me and bombarded me personal questions."
"Did ye answer them?"
He slightly pursed his lips and swallowed, "Just the name. I trashed out the rest."
Merida couldn't help but grin. Suckers. She snorted, "Ye better not tell 'em anything about ye. Ah'll murdurr ye."
Hiccup gave her a confused look, "What?"
Realizing what she just said, she clutched on his arm tighter and mentally strangled herself, "Nothing, fishbone. Let's go." She almost dragged towards the sofa.
Rapunzel and Toothiana were exchanging information about themselves on the opposite sofa while Hiccup and Merida were talking about the usual stuff. Several minutes passed and they all heard Aster's voice muffled by the crowd. They stopped talking and looked at each other before they glanced around looking for the man. Coming from the backyard, they saw Aster striding his way to them. He had one hand on the backrest of the sofa and nodded to the backyard's direction, "Jack's performing. Come on." They nodded and stood up. They went back to their dinner table and fixed their chairs to face the stage. The surroundings slowly became more hushed when Jack jogged up the stage and fixed the microphone stand. He looked around and stopped his gaze at North's direction. A genuine smile formed on his lips.
"First of all, I'd like to say happy birthday to my uncle, North. He's a really awesome guy and I'm thankful to have him both as a friend and a family." He slightly chuckled and looked at the crowd smiling up at him. He scratched the back of his head; "You know I'm not good with this mushy stuff so I'll head on to my performance." The audience laughed. He was about to move when he remembered to add something, "Oh and, North, thanks for helping me out with this song. I never got the chance to thank you so… eh.. I repeat, I'm not great with mushy stuff so… yeah." He grinned at himself for being kind of 'weird' before he sat by the piano. He didn't notice a microphone standing by the piano when he muttered, "I swear North, you're making me sing my high school song." The people laughed again. He chuckled at himself and started to play the intro.
Not too long, the song began, "Do you remember when I said I'd always be there? Ever since we were ten, baby. When we were out on the playground playing pretend…" his voice was clear and smooth. Everyone listened intently. Some of the girls swooned. "I didn't know it back then. Now I realize you were the only one… It's never too late to show it." he lifted his gaze from the piano keys and looked at the audience, "Grow old together, the feelings we had before, back when we were so innocent…" somehow, his eyes stopped at Rapunzel's figure. Sure she wasn't the one he was referring to back then but he couldn't help but look at her.
As he sung the chorus, some of the people, mostly the teenage girls sang along with him. They even went to the front just to take pictures of him. Now, the gang can't see him because the fan girls are blocking the view. Merida reacted first, "Ah kin nae believe e'en th' invited ones urr his fan girls." She frowned, standing up from her place. Tooth smiled wryly at her and also stood up, "Well, he is the most popular teen artist.." Everyone else stood up seeing they couldn't really do anything about the girls. Hiccup opened his camera and took pictures of Jack's performance. Aster didn't even flinch from his standing. Heck, he was tall enough to see his cousin even when he slightly squats down. Merida and Toothiana were fine since they could see him from the gap between the heads of the girls but Rapunzel was having trouble. Other than being the smallest in the group, the girls were totally blocking her view even when she finds the slightest of the gaps. When she did find a gap, it was only big enough for one eye to see clearly so she shut one eyes and watched like that. She smiled despite having a hard time. She was starting to softly sing along when she felt Hiccup nudge her arm. She looked at him.
The brunette pointed to where the stairs to the stage was, "There's no one there."
"But that's the stairs. Nobody's allowed there."
Aster placed his hand on her shoulder and smiled at her, "It's fine. Denver's there."
"But he's Jack's dad. He's supposed to—"
"Just go. It'll be fine. Come on." He led her to where Denver was standing. She felt awkward standing between the two men and held her hands together by her lap, "H-hello, sir." She kept her head slightly bent.
Denver flashed a bright smile at her, "Hey! Enjoying the party?" She only gave a nod and continued to watch. He knew she was shy so he tried to make her feel more comfortable by not staring at her. After a long moment of silence, she was slowly easing up and watched with her chin up. When Aster glanced at him, he gave him a look, saying he should keep Rapunzel comfortable. His nephew nodded and made a small lopsided smile.
"It's a whole lot better watching without the screaming, huh?"
Rapunzel chuckled, "It's like a concert in here."
"It always is when he's around." He snorted.
Denver smirked and arched a brow at him, "Is that hostility I hear?" his voice lingered with slight mockery.
Aster eyed him and scoffed, "What made you say that? I was even more popular than him when I was his age."
"Whatever you say." Denver couldn't help but chuckle. Rapunzel let out a small giggle.
He slightly glowered at him, "No wonder Jackson's sarcastic." He said with a low voice.
"And charismatic too." Denver winked at Rapunzel.
The blond grinned widely, slightly blushing and gave a small nod. Aster blinked his eyes in slight disbelief and scoffed, "What? You actually agree that Jack's a—"
"I'm what, Aster?" They all glanced at the top of the stairs and saw Jack looking at them with an amused expression plastered on his face.
Denver opened his mouth, "That you're a charismatic and charming young man."
Jack smirked at his cousin, "What about me being so sexy?" his handsomeness showed more. Now if he could only flip his hair back, he'd be more fabulous than he was now.
Again, his father was going to speak but Denver knew he'd embarrass Rapunzel so he changed the topic smoothly, "Well, he was being against it. Anyway, good job as always son! You never fail to make panties drop!" he laughed.
Jack rolled his eyes from Aster, "As always…" His cousin shot a glare at him. He looked at his father and grinned widely, "And they love it every time." He walked down the stairs, stopping in front of Rapunzel. He looked down at her, "What do you think?"
She blinked, "Well, it felt like a concert." His brow raised, "Oh?"
Aster rolled his eyes, "Because of the noise and how she had to find a good spot to watch you. Don't flatter yourself."
The white haired boy shrugged, "I can't help it if I'm such a chick magnet, you know." Aster rolled his eyes again, this time with a matching groan. He smirked in triumph. Just then, the others came to them. Toothiana was very jumpy, "My gosh! It's been a long time since I've seen you sing live and you're still as awesome as ever!" her eyes were big as she looked at him. He smiled at her and nodded his thanks, "I hope I get to see you sing live again though." He grinned teasingly, telling her to do it.
"Not today though." She laughed, "Soon." She winked at him then looked at Rapunzel, "By the way, girl, I was able to talk to a producer just now. He wants to meet you after the party." She grinned widely.
Rapunzel's eyes widened, "R-really!?" it was the only thing she could say. She was so surprised and happy that she couldn't find more words to say. The multi-colored girl nodded happily and held her hands as they slightly jumped together. Merida hugged the blond, "Am sae happy for ye, lassie!" The blond hugged her also, "I'm so happy, Mer!" they shared cuddly hugs. When the redhead pulled away, it was Hiccup's turn to hug Rapunzel, "I'm really happy for you!" he grinned at her. She hugged him tight and they slightly swayed, "Thanks, Hic." She smiled at him. The brunette pulled away and Rapunzel turned her head to look at Jack. She couldn't help but jump for joy and hug him too, "God! I'm so happy!" she squealed. Jack was caught off guard and he wasn't sure how he'd respond to her hug and just smiled. The blond pulled away, smiling brightly at him and turned her attention to his father and his cousin when they congratulated her. Somehow, he felt kind of remorseful when he didn't return her hug.
The host and hostess returned to the stage and thanked Jack for his splendid performance. They called North to come up the stage for the opening of his gifts. The old man happily passed by them as a few men carried the loads of gifts for him. The gang agreed to go back to their table since the crowd has already settled down to their seats. Sandy joined them and sat beside Aster. North gave a little speech of gratitude to them before he opened the gifts. He received tons of it and most of them were extremely expensive. Merida looked at the presents with horror, especially at the large gold ring the old man just opened.
"Half a million dollars just for one tiny ring!? Really!?" she muttered as low as she could so she won't take any unwanted attention. Toothiana chuckled, "My thoughts exactly." The redhead looked at her, still in a state of disbelief, "Ah know richt!?" she turned her head again to North.
Some of the presents seemed absurd also. For example…
"Why would someone give North an Elmo doll?" Jack had a what-the-fuck-is-this look on his face as he glanced at the others. Denver shrugged, "Beats me. I'd give him a Cookie Monster doll though." Jack looked at Aster. His cousin also shrugged, "I dunno… 'Cause it's red?" they exchanged shrugs and looked back at North. Toothiana looked at Merida, "What did you guys give him?"
Merida shrugged, "Ah dinnae whit he likes sae ah got 'im a pocket watch." Toothiana glanced at Hiccup. The brunette smiled shyly at her, "Well, I didn't have much allowance so I asked my dad what to get him and he just handed me an antique set of China for their kitchen." She chuckled. Denver laughed, "Seems legit. He'd definitely like that. He's fond of antique stuff." He looked at Rapunzel, "What about you?" The blonde smiled sheepishly, "I knitted a scarf for him." She blushed.
"You knit? That's cool!" Toothiana chirped.
North opened all of their presents and as expected, he loved all of it. After the gift opening, the host and hostess announced that it was time for everyone to go crazy and dance out the night. Most of the guests already left but there were still many people. Jack, thinking it was time to have some fun; he invited his friends to the dance floor where they had an individual dance-off. Most of the remaining guests surrounded them and also danced. They also did a bit of pair dance and danced as if it was just a secret handshake between the pairs. Hiccup passed several turns so he could take pictures of them. A couple of times did the group stop dancing and take a lot of group selfie and be all crazy with the poses. Some of Jack's fans asked to take pictures with him so he had to pass a dozen turns while the others were partying out. With smooth transition, the DJ shifted from party to slow music. Aster took Toothiana while Hiccup took Merida. Rapunzel realized she had no partner and decided to take a seat but was stopped by Denver.
He smiled at her in a way that it reminded her of Jack, "May I have this dance?" he held out a hand to her. She smiled back and took it. He pulled her gently and held her waist with his other hand, "Did you have fun?" he asked. She nodded joyously, "Totally, sir!" he chuckled at her address, "Please, you can call me Denver or Dan if you wish..." he grinned charmingly, "You could also call me uncle or dad." Rapunzel's eyes slightly widened and he immediately smiled apologetically, "I don't mean to disrespect your father, though." He chuckled but it quickly trailed off.
Rapunzel shook her head, "Oh, no! That's fine! Although, my father would get jealous if he finds out he's not the only one I call 'dad'." She giggled, "So I'll settle with uncle." She flashed a wide grin at him. He gave her a soft smile and again, it reminded her of Jack. She couldn't help but be slightly blush. She mentally slapped herself to stop so Denver wouldn't notice.
The man saw her cheek turn slightly pink and acted casually as if he didn't see the transformation, "Uncle it is then. What about you? Do you have anything you want me to call you?"
She swallowed first, "Some of my friends call me as is, some call me Punzie or Punz."
Before Denver picked a nickname, he slightly laughed when a thought came into his mind, "What about Jack? What does he call you?"
She chuckled a bit, "He calls me Goldilocks. Sometimes he calls me 'Blondie'."
As expected, he thought. "Ah, Jack… he'd call you nicknames 'cause it's easier for him to remember people… aside from the teasing." He laughed.
She giggled, "Merida had it the worst." He arched a brow in curiosity. "He calls her 'Frizzness' or 'Frizzy'. He referred her as 'The Frizzy Red Bush' or the 'Queen of all Frizz-heads'." She laughed.
Denver slightly frowned, "He shouldn't be calling Merida that way. He went too far on her."
Rapunzel shook her head, "No, no. Merida doesn't mind it even if she gets annoyed by it cause she calls him 'Frostness' or 'Frosty' in return and refers to him as 'The Bed Head' or 'Sassy Platinum Boy' which is quite funny when they fight."
The man couldn't help but burst out laughing. Sassy Platinum Boy? "I see that Jackie has a competition!" They laughed and when he saw Jack coming their way, he smiled at the blond, "Well, your partner's here so I'll take my leave. I still have to entertain a few more guests." He said just before his son was already behind Rapunzel.
"May I?" Jack flashed a smile. Rapunzel was surprised and when she looked at him, it was like she was still looking at Denver, only with platinum white hair. Denver let go of her waist and gave her hand to his son, "Have fun!" he said with slight teasing tone trailing his voice then left.
The two teens took one last look at the man before facing each other. Jack placed his hands on her back and pulled her close to him and it surprised her. Her hands were shaking and she tried her best to control it and calm down so he wouldn't feel her trembling hands against his layers of clothing. They swayed gently in a circle. They were awfully quiet and it made them feel awkward. Jack was the one who broke the ice between them.
"Uh, hey… I was thinking that since it's already school break and it's three weeks long, I was wondering that maybe…" he tried making eye contact with her but he just couldn't help but look away when he sees her emerald orbs looking back at his ice blue ones. He swallowed, "…Maybe we could have an out-of-town trip, y'know? Just our circle of friends." A part of him wanted to say 'just the two of us' but of course, that'll be weird. What the fuck brain!? Stop thinking about that stuff!
Rapunzel smiled and nodded, "Sure! Where are we going?"
He smiled back, "I was thinking that maybe we could go to Berk or Arendelle. I haven't really decided yet." She laughed, "You gotta make up your mind! When do we leave?"
"Twenty-sixth. I could ask permission from your parents since we'll be gone for five days."
Her eyes widened, "You mean we'll spend New Year's there!?"
He gave a sheepish smile, "If you don't want to, we can always arrange for that."
"No! It's fine! It's just… I don't know if mom and dad will allow me to spend five days somewhere far away and celebrate New Year's there." Her voice turned soft.
He made a lopsided smile, "That's why I'm the one who'll ask permission on your behalf. It'll work out, Goldilocks."
She blinked at his words before smiling, "I can't wait for the trip!" He grinned at her, "Same here. What place do you think should we go?"
"Why don't we just go to both? I mean, they're right next to each other."
"You got a point… So we'll head to Berk first then."
"Did I hear Berk?" Hiccup's voice rang. They glanced to look at their two friends dancing beside them. If they only knew how good they look together and just admit they like each other, that would be great, the pair thought.
Rapunzel nodded, "Yeah. Jack's planning on a five-day out-of-town trip for us on the twenty-sixth."
The brunette smiled, "Where in Berk? Do we have a place to stay yet?"
"Actually, no. I haven't asked if the villa's available. Do you know a place where we could though? Somewhere nice." Jack shrugged.
Hiccup smirked, "Of course I do! That's where I used to live before I moved here. We could stay in our old house."
"Well that settles Berk. What about Arendelle?" Jack looked at Rapunzel.
Merida tilted her head, "Isn't that where yer cousins live, Rapunzel?"
Rapunzel's eyes widened, "Oh that's right! Maybe I can ask 'em about hotels there." She smiled, "So we're all settled then?" she looked at her friends.
"You have cousins there?" Jack's brows slightly furrowed. The blond nodded, "Yeah."
Apparently, Jack was feeling heavy on the stomach and his throat felt tight. He used to live in Arendelle before he came to Corona last year. He finished his elementary and high school in the place. Knowing Rapunzel having cousins in Arendelle made him slightly nervous because of a memory. A memory of a certain girl that haunted him for months before he met the blonde. Come to think of it, they do look alike. But to confirm…. "What are your cousins' names?" he asked as if it's just normal. It is normal. Just awkward.
"Anna and Elsa…"
Elsa!?
"…Eis. Anna and Elsa Eis."
Shit. I KNEW IT!
End of Chapter
Yeah, they did dance but what's this? Jack having problems with Elsa? Why? Hint: I'm so (kind of negatively) overwhelmed by all the Jelsa fan arts and stuff all over the net. I'm still a JACKUNZEL fan. SOLID JACKUNZEL FAN. You might be wondering why I made their last name as "Eis". It's German (since I can't decide between Danish [Hans Christian Andersen's nationality, if I remember correctly], Norwegian [Kristoff's, I think, surname origin] and German [Just cause Rapunzel's origin is from Germany]) and it means "Ice". I don't Snow (Schnee in German) works. I'd put Frozen but the German is an adjective (It's Vereist meaning "icebound"). I chose the nouns, as you can see. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT ALL THAT. Someone, a German, do correct me!
BY THE WAY! The song Jack sang is called "Best Friend" by Jason Chen. There's a fan video of Jackunzel that had that song. Watch it! It's awesome! It's called "I fell in love with my best friend - Jackunzel" by xPhiloSophiex (I don't know if I misspelled that one).
More exciting events to come and more surprises to be expected. XD I haven't watched Frozen yet so if ever, I'll do my best to make 'em IN CHARACTER, which I doubt I could that's why I made 'em go to Berk. More CGI characters from Disney, DreamWorks and Pixar to come (hopefully)! I do hope you like the update –o- urrgghh I'm so sorry for the really late update D: Finals is here! I'm SO sorry! I promise to update by the school break!
Questions, reviews and the like are welcome!
