Chapter 9: Diaz Family Vacation

At the Diaz Household...

King and Queen Butterfly were talking to Star and Serena through the interdimensional mirror.

"Of course, very few are aware of the serious matter, so I'll be travelling afar to give an all-day lecture explaining the proper throne posture."River remarked. "Slouched shoulders are an epidemic among nobility these days."

The pink hearts on Star's cheeks turned into hourglasses while Serena let out a small yawn.

"So this is what it's like to be bored to death."Star mumbled.

"It could be more worse."Serena whispered.

"Girls!"Moon called out with a frown. "Are those dimensional scissors?"

Star and Serena notice the dimensional scissors were on the table behind them.

"Uh..."Star said before picking up the scissors and pieces of paper. "N-No, no, of course not! Just normal Earth scissors, see?"

"Yeah, they're very normal scissors!"Serena agreed. "And they're very good at cutting papers too!"

Star cuts the papers into a unicorn cut out but accidentally opened a small dimensional portal behind her and Serena.

A monster's hand reaches through the portal and paws at the two princesses.

"Good."Moon said. "Because you two are not to leave Earth."

"We would never think of it!"Star and Serena replied with nervous smiles.

The two began to punch and kick the monster hand.

"Glad to hear it."River remarked and saw his watch was beeping. "I'm sorry, your mother and I must cut you short, I have lecture things to do."

"Oh, him and his lectures."Moon commented.

"Okay, bye!"Star said with a smile.

"See you next time!"Serena chuckled.

Star shoved the monster's arm back through the portal and the portal closed.

"Phew!"Star sighed.

"Man that was close."Serena retorted. "We should put the scissors somewhere safe next time."

Marco then entered the girls bedroom.

"Star, Serena, we're about to celebrate my parents' anniversary."He said with a smile. "Come on."

"Oh, no!"Star panicked. "I didn't get them anything!"

"Neither did I."Serena admitted.

"Don't worry about it."Marco assured. "My gift can be from the three of us."

"But I wanna give them something just from me cause your parents are actually cool."Star remarked.

Marco stared blankly.

"Cool..."He responded and closed the door. "Cool..."

In the Living Room...

Mr and Mrs Diaz sit on the couch while looking at each other lovingly.

Marco, Star and Serena stare at them.

"Ahem!"Marco said and cleared his throat.

"Oh, hello, kids!"Rafael greeted.

"Happy anniversary, you guys!"Marco remarked happily and held out a small gift box.

"Ooh!"Rafael and Angie said in unison.

Mr Diaz opened the box and Mrs Diaz takes out two red and light-green fanny packs.

"Wow, Marco!"Angie responded with a weak smile. "More...fanny packs!"

"Okay, I know you guys are non-believers..."Marco answered and lifts up his hoodie to reveal a blue fanny pack. "...But these are way cooler than last year's, they have everything you need, like a dilemma whistle, non-drowsy antihistamine and a space blanket made for two!"

Marco unfolds the space blanket and depicts an astronaut bear in space.

"Oh, yes, you know how much we love to travel and see the sights."He admitted.

"Oh, Marco, you put so much thought into this."Angie said. "Gifts are such a great way to show how much you really care about someone, I didn't think it was possible to love you more than I do right now."

Star was becoming more distressed before an idea came to her mind.

"And I'm giving you a trip to Mewni!"She announced happily.

"Huh?!"Serena said in shock.

"We're going to Mewni!"Rafael and Angie cheered.

"Uh, we can use our new fanny packs!"Marco added.

Rafael hugged Star, Serena and Angie while jumping up and down.

"We go now, right?"Rafael asked hopefully.

"Right now?"Angie suggested.

"I want to go right now!"Rafael admitted.

"Can we go right now?!"Angie asked happily.

"Well actually..."Serena said.

"Absolutely!"Star remarked.

Star, Serena and the Diazes stood next to an open dimensional portal.

"Welcome to Mewni!"Star said happily.

Mr and Mrs Diaz took photographs.

Angie looked at Star and Serena.

"Is this where you two grew up?"She asked.

"No-ho-ho."Star replied and pointed to a large castle. "We live there."

"Ooh!"Rafael and Angie said in unison.

"A bit more higher."Serena commented.

The Diazes saw a bigger castle in the clouds.

"Ooooh!"Rafael and Angie responded.

"Higher!"Star said in a sing song tone.

The group saw the Butterfly Castle.

"Ooooooh!"Rafael and Angie replied happily.

"That's home sweet home."Serena admitted.

"Let's go there."Angie suggested.

"Aw, you don't wanna see that lame, cheesy, touristy stuff."Star replied with a smile. "What you want is the real Mewni experience."

In the Mewni slums there was a woman who was seen caring for 14 children, a herd of 12 goat-pig hybrids and a man with a long nose stirred a pot of stew.

A boy reaches for the stew and the man grabs the boy and dropped him in the stew.

Angie saw a little boy not far from where she was standing.

"Oh, hello, little boy."She greeted.

The little boy turned around while eating a horned rat before hiss screaming and running away.

"Oh."Angie laughed nervously. "Yum-yum-yum."

"Um...oh, look, an open-air market!"Star remarked.

A few merchants were selling items in the slums.

"Get your hydra trail apples!"

"Half off shrunken goblin heads!"

"Want pickled giant's toe? Is good!"

Rafael and Angie approached a fourth merchant with purple hair, who appeared to flash them.

"I got what you need."the fourth merchant said.

Rafael and Angie took photos of the merchant, who had various wares including sundials, wind chimes, jewellery and chicken.

"I'll take the wind chimes, please."Angie said.

Star, Serena and the Diazes go down an alleyway.

Star and Serena gasped in shock when they saw King Butterfly in the same alleyway buying a spear.

"Uh oh..."Serena panicked quietly.

"Dad!"Star whispered.

The girls quickly ran off before River could see them.

Marco stood next to a goat-pig pen cleaning something off the bottom of his shoe.

The two cousins run up to Marco and dragged him into the middle of the pen.

"Whoa!"Marco said. "Star, Serena, what the...?"

"My dad's here."Star replied.

"Your dad?!"Marco said in shock.

Star poked her head up.

"Yes!"She responded. "I don't know what he's doing here, but if he sees me and Rena, we're dead!"

"Breathe."Marco instructed. "Just tell my parents the fanny packs are from both of us, and we can go home."

"But they're actually enjoying my gift."Star said. "I don't wanna ruin this for them."

"I suggest we go somewhere that your dad won't find us."Serena admitted.

Mr and Mrs Diaz took photos of the goat-pigs.

Star, Marco and Serena pop up.

"Uh, okay!"Star said. "Uh next, I wanna show you, uh...oh!"

She looked toward a scary-looking forest.

"Mewni's natural beauty!"She announced happily.

"Sounds thrilling!"Rafael chuckled.

"But it has a frightening nature."Serena warned.

"We love nature."Angie remarked.

Mr and Mrs Diaz approached the forest and took pictures.

Marco sees a sign that reads 'FOREST OF CERTAIN DEATH'.

"Forest of Certain Death?!"He said in horror.

"Oh, don't read too much into the name."Star assured. "Hurry up!"

"And I suppose the monsters there are in a fairy tale."Serena said sarcastically.

Star, Serena and the Diazes entered the forest.

"So it's really kind of important to keep moving."Star instructed. "There's a bleeding willow tree."

"Ooh."Rafael and Angie said in unison.

A centipede-like monster quickly slithered past Marco.

"Aah!"Marco screamed. "Whoa!"

"Here's a carnivore blossom."Star said.

A swarm of baboon-faced bees fly over Marco and he ducks to the ground while Serena zapped the bees away with her ring's magic.

"Are you guys seeing any of this?!"Marco asked.

"See it?"Rafael said.

A giant's foot stomped past behind Star, Serena and the Diazes.

"Can't take our eyes off it!"Rafael replied.

Mr and Mrs. Diaz began to walk away together.

"Best anniversary ever, best anniversary ever!"Rafael and Angie chanted. "Best anniversary ever, best anniversary ever!"

Star and Serena carefully step over something in the ground with teeth.

"Wait!"Star shouted. "Come back!"

"Don't go too far away!"Serena protested.

Marco notice the monster beneath the ground.

"Oh, yeah."He said with a smile. "Nice try, path."

Marco throws a few sticks of gum onto the path and the mouth snapped closed to chew on the gum.

"Hey, guys, did you see what I just did with that bubble gum?"He called out.

The young boy saw his parents along with Star and Serena running toward the far end of the road.

Marco frowned. "Of course not."

Star, Serena and the Diazes passed by what appeared to be roses.

"Oh, wow."Angie said with a smile. "These flowers are lovely."

"Not as lovely as you, dear."Rafael admitted as he took pictures of the roses.

Star and Serena ran after the two adults.

"Wait for us!"Star shouted.

When Marco passed by the roses, the flower monsters burst out of the ground.

The boy looked inside his fanny pack to take out a whistle and blew on it.

This caused the flower monsters sink back into the ground.

"Hmm."Marco said with a smile. "It worked."

The Diazes run along some thick tree branches.

"Come on, my dear."Rafael said. "Let me capture your beauty-ness on this magnificent adventure."

Angie giggled and ran up to the tree branch to be next to her husband.

Rafael and Angie ran off to the next tree branch while Star and Serena were trying to go after them.

"Wait!"Serena shouted. "Come back!"

"Okay!"Star commented. "You can stop being so cool now!"

The Diazes slowly approach a small porcupine-like creature.

"Okay, now, hold still."Rafael said.

The Diazes take photos of the porcupine causing it to screech at them.

Star and Serena sighed when they saw Marco's parents were okay.

"They're still alive."Star said.

"These tracks are fresh."

The girls see King River and two of his man servants including Manfred.

King Butterfly tastes something on the ground.

Star and Serena quickly hide behind a log.

"Pegasus feathers!"Star panicked. "He's on to us!"

"Well that's wonderful."Serena scoffed. "The next thing we know we're in St Olga."

Marco walked by not far from where the two cousins were hiding.

"Nothing makes you feel more like a man than going to the bathroom in the woods."He remarked.

Star and Serena pulled Marco into hiding.

"We gotta go, it's not safe here."Star said and pointed at her dad. "Look my dad is right there."

King Butterfly looked at his man servants.

"This way!"He ordered.

"Let's just get your parents and go home."Star said and looked at the other side. "Okay, Mr. and Mrs. Diaz that concludes the tour, hope you've enjoyed your..."

The three young teenagers notice Mr and Mrs Diaz were gone.

"Mr and Mrs Diaz?"Serena said worriedly.

"Where did they go?"Marco asked.

Star gasped and looked on the floor.

"Look!"She admitted. "Footprints!"

The footprints of Mr and Mrs Diaz lead toward a skull-shaped cave.

Bats flutter out as Marco, Star and Serena sneak into the cave.

"Look!"Marco said. "It's their stuff!"

The trio find Mr and Mrs Diaz's clothes and belongings lying on a rock.

Marco picked up his mother's wind chimes.

"But where are they?"He asked.

The three teenagers feel a breeze around them.

Star shines her wand inside a hole and it breathes on her.

Then a hydra wakes up.

The hydra lifts up its head causing five more heads pop out.

The hungry monster roared at the three teenagers.

Star, Marco and Serena screamed in fright.

"Let's get outta here!"Marco shouted.

"No!"Star responded. "That thing ate your parents!"

Muffled screams were heard in the hydra's stomach.

"Shouldn't we try and not get eaten as well first?!"Serena argued.

"Look out!"Star warned.

Star pushes Marco and Serena out of the way.

One of the hydra's heads eats Star.

"Star no!"Serena screamed.

Inside the hydra's mouth, Star dodges its tongue.

"Aah!"Star panicked.

"Let her go!"Marco growled.

He shoves his hands inside the hydra's nostrils and pulled Star out.

"Super Rainbow Dolphin Slam!"Star chanted.

The blonde haired girl blasted the hydra's heads with magic dolphin blasts.

"There!"Marco shouted.

"Hot Flaming Phoenix Arrows!"Serena chanted.

She blasted the other hydra heads with fire bird arrows.

The hydra chases after Star, Marco and Serena, but the three end up at an end of the cave.

"A dead end?!"Marco said in shock.

Star and Serena blasts the hydra with more dolphin blasts and phoenix arrows.

Marco uppercuts one of the hydra's heads.

The hydra breathes fire on the trio.

Star, Marco and Serena run around the stream of fire breath, running on opposite sides of the hydra.

Marco takes the space blanket out of his fanny pack.

"Quick!"He ordered. "Under here!"

Star, Marco and Serena duck under the space blanket, protecting them from the hydra's fire breath.

"Wow!"Star chuckled. "What else do you have in there?"

"I pretty much used up everything when I was schooling the Forest of Certain Death."Marco replied. "Well, everything except for this miniature miniature book of knots."

He takes out a book of knots that's an inch big.

Serena smirked. "Impressive."

"So cute...did you say knots?"Star giggled.

"Yeah."Marco answered. "Why?"

Star, Marco and Serena jump out from under the space blanket.

"Bet you can't catch me."Star remarked.

"Over here!"Marco called out.

"Is that as fast as you can go?"Serena teased.

Star, Marco and Serena run in opposite directions.

More of the hydra's heads follow the three teenagers.

"Hey, you! Yeah, you!"Star shouted and dodged the hydra's heads. "You can't catch me!"

The hydra's necks start to get entangled.

"Over here!"Marco shouted.

Marco dodges the hydra's heads, making their necks get more entangled.

"Come and get me!"Serena chuckled.

The oranger haired girl dodged the hydra heads that were coming after her.

The hydra's necks got so entangled and they become tied into a knot.

This causes the hydra to suffocate and fall over.

"Whoo-hoo!"Star cheered.

"Alright!"Serena laughed.

The two cousins high fived each other.

King Butterfly appeared yelling on a cliff holding a spear and wearing nothing but a loincloth whole a bone sticked out of his beard.

He jumped from the cliff ready to challenge the hydra, but he stopped when he noticed his daughter and niece.

"Star?!"River said with a frown. "Serena?!"

"My parents are still inside that thing!"Marco admitted.

King Butterfly cuts an opening in the hydra's stomach, freeing several Mewni civilians.

"We're free!"the civilians cheered.

"They're not here?!"Marco said in disbelief. "Quick to the large intestine before they're fully digested!"

He squishes through the hydra's innards while gagging.

Star, Serena and River become worried before they heard giggling.

Mr and Mrs Diaz were seen enjoying a hot spring.

"There's nothing like a steamy bath after a long day of exploration."Rafael remarked.

"Mom!"Marco called out. "Dad!"

"You're alive!"Star said with a smile.

"Aaaand you're only wearing the fanny packs."Marco commented.

Serena blushed in embarrassment of the sight in front of them.

"Ah, King Butterfly!"Rafael said. "Care for a dip?"

Mr and Mrs Diaz giggled at each other.

King Butterfly cleared his throat.

"As inviting as that sounds, I need a minute with my daughter and niece."He stated.

King Butterfly dragged Star away by her arm.

"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow."Star mumbled

Serena tried to sneak away but River dragged her away as well.

"Star, Serena, you both know you're not to leave Earth!"River said with a frown. "What are you two doing here?"

"It's sort of a long story really."Serena replied with a short chuckle.

"Okay, okay! Uh, but the thing is, it's not exactly my fault!"Star said with a small smile. "There—it was an anniversary! It all started with the fanny packs...Hey! Aren't you supposed to be giving some boring lecture?"

"Or are you secretly abandoning your duties?"Serena questioned with a frown.

"Uh no!"King River chuckled nervously. "W-We got a little lost, the directions were, uh...it all started with fanny packs..."

He sighed in defeat.

"There is no lecture."River admitted and jumped onto a rock. "Being king is exhausting, every once in a while, I need to sneak away and fight monsters, it keeps me sane and it's good for my throne posture."

"So I get my monster fighting from you."Star said with a smile. "Cool...Cool!"

King Butterfly smiled. "I suppose so."

Star and River laughed a little.

"Are you gonna tell Aunt Moon you saw us?"Serena asked.

"I didn't see you two and you two didn't see me."River replied. "But just this once."

Star and Serena hugged King Butterfly.

"Hugs!"They said in unison.

"Farewell."River said with a smile.

The King of Mewni left followed by his man servants.

Marco walked up to Star and Serena.

"It's cool that you guys bonded and you got to see that side of your dad."Marco said with a smile.

Mr Diaz whistled as he crossed the view naked causing Marco to quickly cover Star and Serena's eyes with his hands until he was out of sight.

"I wish I hadn't seen that side of my dad."Marco chuckled awkwardly.
