Eragon: Forever
Advice
I can't make any excuse, and I don't intend to, I haven't updated in over a year, and I don't expect any Forgiveness. To be honest I had lost inspiration for the fic, and after so long I didn't expect anybody to read or actually care about the fic, until someone sent me a PM asking when I would update, so I'm back. Anyway, enjoy the chapter.
"So Eragon." Roran started in a whisper to the giant Dragon he was atop. "What are your plans with Saphira" He asked in a knowing tone, instantly causing Eragon to shut off his mind to Saphira, hoping she hadn't heard Roran either in reality or mentally.
Wha- What do y-you mean?Eragon responded, noticing that Saphira, who was some 20 meters ahead of the two cousins, had looked back at the two, suspicious as to why Eragon had shut his mind off from her, something he rarely, if ever did these days.
"Oh come on Eragon, its obvious how you feel about her" He teased, but really Eragon knew it was true. Although he wasn't sure just how much he felt for Saphira, he knew that, in a sense he did love the dragoness. "You do know she probably feels the same way" Roran added after a short silence. Again his cousin was probably right; Saphira obviously cared deeply for Eragon as well.
I-I erm... I suppose. It's just a little confusing for me right now. I mean, I've only been a Dragon for about a week, and up until that point, although I still loved Saphira, it wasn't in that way.Eragon explained, knowing he couldn't hide his feelings towards Saphira from Roran, who other than maybe Saphira knew him better than anyone.
"Well, just don't take too long to decide you might just lose her and doom the Dragon race" He joked, as Eragon thought on what Roran had just said, 'lose her'. Could he really lose her, what would happen if that happened? Would the two of them have to spend the rest of their lives alone?
Roran, sensing the turmoil his younger brother was going through, decided to stop teasing, knowing that Eragon must be going through a lot right now. "Don't worry about it, I'm sure you and Saphira will work something out. Just be yourself, I'm sure it'll be fine" He said, knowing what his younger brother was thinking, but also able to see that Eragon clearly loved the other Dragon.
Thanks Roran, It's nice to have somebody to talk to about all this stuff. It's just… Well just that a lot has happened in the past week is all. Eragon replied, genuinely grateful towards his older Brother for the comforting words; however he didn't have a clue what to do, he didn't want to be separated from the Blue dragoness, but could that be classified as love, or something not that deep, but still as more than just partners.
Reopening his mental link to Saphira, he realised how empty his mind felt without her ever present consciousness, her emotions washing over his own, intermingling like they always had done since the bond was formed. I think that we should land soon, it's getting dark and the others will need to rest. Eragon told Saphira, knowing Ismira wouldn't be able to fly through the night.
There's a clearing not much further from here, it should take about ten minutes.Saphira explained, however continued. Why did you shut off your mind from me? You never do that. She asked, causing Eragon to blush slightly remembering his conversation with Roran.
Erm… Guy stuff.Eragon quickly answered, not knowing how to explain himself to the blue dragoness. Nothing of much importance. He finished, hoping it would prevent any further questions the partner of his mind may have.
Fine, you don't have to tell me. Saphira said in a tone sounding somewhere between Teasing and Scolding, however Eragon couldn't help but feel like it was the latter. Deciding it was just his Imagination
When the clearing came into view a short time later, the two Dragons made a smooth decent, warning the riders to hold on. Saphira Landing gracefully, with Eragon making a slight mess of it, still not used to flying, not to mention carrying someone on his back.
Well here we are.Saphira told everyone as the others dismounted the Dragons before looking around at the area Saphira had picked out for their camp. It was on the southern shore of Lake Tudosten, on the border of Surda.
The evening sun turned the Lake a deep red with swirls of orange here and there caused by the gentle waves on the water's edge. Saphira decided to lay down looking over the lake whilst Roran set up camp and Katrina started to sort out some food for Herself Ismira and Roran. Eragon walked up to her and quickly sat down beside her, however Saphira moved a couple of feet away from him.
Katrina Just looked over at the Young Dragons and laughed to herself. "Good luck Saphira, Just don't take what I said too far" She said to nobody before continuing with the food preparations.
-Flash Back- Whilst Eragon was speaking with Roran.
Katrina, could I ask you something? Saphira nervously asked the woman currently riding on her back.
"Sure Saphira, You don't have to ask" She replied, already having a fairly good idea what the blue dragoness would be asking considering her tone of voice and current situation.
How could I get Eragon to love me the same way I love him? She asked, causing Katrina to nod even though Saphira couldn't see, expecting to be asked a question along those lines.
"Well, I'm pretty sure he already loves you, but either doesn't know it yet, or is too nervous to tell you, but considering what's just happened I would say it's the first" Katrina answered, knowing what the Dragoness was going through after having trouble early on in hers and Roran's Relationship, although that was mostly caused by her father.
Well how can I get him to realise how he feel? Saphira asked, herself not knowing much about love since the only other Dragons she had met in her short life had either been enemies or much too old, or both in one case. She had never been around a Dragon her age, at least physically, who she didn't have to fight so the feelings she felt were completely new to her.
Katrina Just smiled knowingly, completely understanding Saphiras situation, and because of that she decided to give the Dragoness in distress some advice. "Well if Eragons like any human guy I know, which he will be considering up until a week ago he was human, I would say you should play hard to get" Katrina informed the Dragon, causing Saphira to look back at her.
Play hard to get? But if I do that, then wouldn't he think I don't love him anymore? Saphira asked, not sure on the advice, thinking it would push Eragon away, something she definitely did not want to do.
"Well that's part of the plan. When he thinks he can't have you, he'll realise that he doesn't want to lose you. That will make him understand that he actually loves you. Guys need a little push when it comes to this sort of stuff" Katrina said, chuckling to herself remembering how she got Roran to ask her out in a similar manner.
Fine, I'll follow your advice. However if it doesn't work, then you can expect to walk the rest of the way. Saphira warned, before feeling her connection to Eragon reform, knowing that she would have some questions for her 'mate to be' for severing the link.
-End Flash Back-
Saphira, what's the matter? Eragon asked, over their mental link, to which Saphira just prepared herself mentally, never before just shrugging something Eragon said, even if it was just and act.
Nothing. Saphira answered curtly, almost shrugging Eragon's question off. Inside however she was kicking herself, hating acting this way to the other Dragon, even if it was all fake.
Eragon honestly was at a loss. Why was Saphira being like that with him? Wanting to know why, he decided to press the issue. Seriously Saphira, what's wrong? Eragon asked, however received no answer. Why are you ignoring me? He asked, getting no answer yet again.
Standing up, Eragon decided to let the blue Dragoness have some space for a while, he probably did something but didn't know what. I'll go hunt for some food, I want you to tell me what the matter is when I get back. Eragon said before turning away from her and flying away.
Saphira turned around after Eragon left, not sure if her plan was working, however she couldn't help but feel like it was going wrong. Katrina, now finished with the food preparations, and only needing a fire to cook it on, decided to come over and talk to the young Dragoness. "Saphira, I know I said play hard to get, but I think you're taking it a little too far" Katrina said, not knowing what words transpired between the two, but knew something was wrong when Eragon flew off almost immediately after going over to talk to her.
What do you mean? I made it look like I wasn't interested in him like you told me to. Saphira asked, sure she had done what she was meant to do.
"Well you have the right idea, but I think you should tone it down a little bit. Act like you did before he became a Dragon" Katrina advised, knowing that Saphira probably treat him different now he was a Dragon and a potential mate.
I think I'll just do it my way. Saphira said, still worried that she had screwed it up, and that Eragon would never love her now, her instincts as a Dragon telling her that it was over, not taking into consideration that Eragon was previously human, and humans and dragons act differently when it comes to love.
Eragon was flying over a nearby forest, looking for some deer or something to eat, trying to figure out why Saphira was acting as she did towards him earlier. He'd probably done something wrong, but he couldn't figure out what it was. Maybe it was when he shut off their link earlier on, but he didn't think Saphira would ignore him because of that.
'What if she didn't love him anymore' was one of the thoughts which popped into his head, which was something he didn't want to happen, even if he didn't know for sure why he felt that way. He shrugged off the thought however as he knew Saphira wouldn't change her feelings towards him in under a day. He would have to have done something big for that to happen, and he knew for a fact that he would remember if he did something which could cause that.
He saw a small family of deer grazing below in a small clearing of the forest, and decided to go for the Buck, leaving the Mother and children, remembering Saphira explaining that if you hunted for the younger deer, there would be fewer and fewer generations in the future basically pushing the species to extinction.
After quickly picking up the deer, he broke its neck before it could struggle too much and escape his grasp. His prey securely in his front claws, he decided one deer would be enough for the two as they had only flown for a short time before stopping. Getting his bearing, he started to head in the direction of their camp.
The flight back was only short, lasting around ten minutes as he didn't fly very far to get his and Saphira's dinners. I'm back he announced, getting waves from Roran and Katrina, who were eating their meals around a cooking fire which Saphira had lit.
"Looks like your much better at hunting now Brother" Roran shouted at the slowly descending Dragon in front of him carrying a large deer.
I was always good at hunting, better than you at least. Eragon stated. Being a Dragon just makes it easier. He finished, causing Saphira to speak up, wanting to add her own two cents.
Still not as Good as I am. She said, getting a surprised look from Eragon who still thought she was in a mood with him for some unknown reason. I'm sorry about how I acted before, I was just thinking about some stuff. Saphira said, knowing that she had hurt Eragons feelings, even if she intended the opposite.
Eragon, deciding to be mature about it, decided to let it go, realising that the blue Dragoness was genuinely sorry and seemed to be telling the truth. Apology accepted, don't worry about it Saphira. Eragon said, dropping the Deer in front of the Dragoness who had now made her way over and was stood face to face with him.
Looking down at the delicious looking meal, Saphira felt that she was perhaps a little hungry. Can I have some? She asked, to which Eragon nodded, getting the deer for the two of them anyway he didn't mind sharing it at all.
Just as the two were about to dig in, they were stopped by Roran. "I don't mean to be rude, but I've seen how Saphira eats, and my guess is that two dragons are messier than one" Roran said, hinting that the two should maybe eat their own dinner away from Roran and his family.
"And I don't want Ismira to see something to gruesome looking" Katrina added, not wanting her baby daughter to see a dead animal torn to pieces by two Dragons.
I don't think it looks gruesome. Eragon stated, he was used to seeing dead animals since he was a hunter, and he was also a dragon now so his instincts told him it was fine.
I think it looks delicious Eragon. Saphira added truthfully, but also because she wanted to give her potential mate praise on his hunt.
"Well we humans don't like to see a deer ripped apart, so would you mind eating somewhere else" Roran demanded, knowing he would have to put his foot down if he wanted to get his way. Besides he was the Oldest, even if his Brother was a Dragon now it shouldn't make a difference.
Fine, fine we'll go. Just remember who flew you here.Eragon huffed as he walked away from the fire with the deer hanging from his mouth. He didn't really care about having to eat somewhere else, but wanted to joke about a little.
And that I was the one who made that nice and warm fire. Saphira added before following the dark blue Dragon over to where he was about to start eating their dinner.
"I think those two are too similar" Katrina said, watching the giant forms of the two Dragons walk away from them. "But I've got to say, they really are perfect for each other" she added, to which Roran only nodded in agreement.
Okay, so it's a short chapter, especially considering I've not been updating for over a year now. But I've had stuff to do, and I had to reread the rest of my fic and work out where I wanted to take it. You could consider this a filler, as I wanted to put something between Ilirea and Farthen Dur. Anyway, please review.
PS: If anybody was waiting for me to update, again, soooo sorry
PPS: I'm a bit rusty with my Eragon knowledge, so if you find any mistakes considering names of places or people, please PM me.
PPPS: I hope to update this fic weekly along side of my other fic. If I don't do that, I give you permission to go on a rant or something telling me to update and keep my promises.
