Chapter 10:

The next day, Kori wouldn't get out of her bed. It was too much to think about that Dick knew who she was. Was he going to tell everyone it was her? All these questions ran through her head and she couldn't really get any sleep that night. She was exhausted to the point where she couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard she tried.

The only thing she really couldn't understand was why she didn't listen to him when he offered to explain everything. All the answers were right in her possession and she refused to grasp it for herself. Was it because it was Dick telling her what happened or something deeper than that?

Sitting up in her bed, she realized what day it was.

"Oh, yeah." She mumbled incoherently, reaching over to her phone and looking at the date. "Of course it's the day of the ball." Kori whispered annoyed, dropping her phone and throwing herself back on her mattress. Somehow, the thought of getting dressed up for the ball made her extremely sleepy and within seconds of laying back down, she shut her eyes and let sleep take over.

"Hey sleepyhead, you getting up anytime soon?" The voice was familiar enough for Kori to turn around and glare half asleep at the culprit.

"Why are you in my room?" She spat angrily, although she was still in the waking up process, she could faintly keep her eyes open for a few seconds before closing them and pressing her face against the pillow even harder.

"I don't think it would be fair to let you oversleep when everyone is getting ready, don't you think?" The voice teased. It was nothing like she's ever heard before…not in such a long time.

Sitting up once again, she reached out and grabbed the others shirt by the collar, pulling them in with a nasty scowl on her face. She really wasn't someone you should mess with when they wake up or else you'll be in a world of hurt.

"Listen, leave me alone." She narrowed her gaze at the other, gritting her teeth together to contain most of her anger from exploding.

"Starfire, I-" The other began.

"It's Kori to you." She interjected, correcting them quickly.

"Fine. Kori, was it?" They paused. "You can let go of me."

Kori noticed the distance between the two of them were close enough that she could just kiss them at any given point, but that wasn't going to happen. She refused to let go of her hold no matter what the other said.

"Give me a good reason to." She intimidated the other, her grip tightening a little bit. The other seem to not be enjoying their time in her grasp and sighed heavily, rolling their eyes to the side and moving forward, planting a gentle kiss on her lips.

Without a second to spare, Kori's grip dropped and she couldn't help but feel so flustered. She totally wasn't expecting that to happen. Turning away from the other, Kori placed two of her fingertips against her lips and looked over at the other with a shocked expression.

"What…what was that?!" She started off hesitant, but finished off strong.

"I gave you a reason to let go, didn't I?" He laughed happily at her reaction. "Maybe I should've done that sooner." He got up from where he was situated and began to head towards the door.

"Dick! Wait! What do you mean?" She flustered from what he just did, she was confused by his words. Wasn't he into Kira? Wasn't that the whole reason she felt like leaving in the first place?

Stopping in place, he turned away from the door and smiled.

"You know, I tired explaining to you yesterday, remember?" He turned back around, his hand reaching the door knob, but he stood there like that, frozen in place until he said "Kira used her powers on us to manipulate the way you saw us. She used us to get rid of you. Later, she said she'd help us find you because she felt really bad for what she did. That's the whole story in short." Opening the door, he was halfway out and called back cheerfully "You better start getting ready!"

Stunned, she sat there with her fingers placed against her lips until she realized she didn't have much time left before people began coming over for the ball.

Slowly Kori made it out of her bed, unsure of what exactly just went on. First, she was kissed on the lips by the person she's always loved. There was no denying her feeling for him. They never changed throughout the year and didn't change when she saw his lips on another girl. She wanted to deny her feelings so she could move on, but maybe denying them wasn't the right thing to do? Secondly, the whole thing was a fraud? All of them hurting her was Kira all along? Was she really blaming them and forcing herself to hate them because she didn't understand the whole story?

She held back the feeling to cry, clutching onto her shirt and looking out the window.

"I will fix this."

Pinning the last strand of hair up, Kori moved through her room as elegantly as she knew how to. She wasn't wearing her ring anymore and she didn't want to wear it anymore. This was her time to shine as Starfire, not Kori Ander's.

With her green dress on, she made her way out of her room and to Bruce's to have a little talk with him.

"No ring, huh?" Bruce didn't even turn around before he said anything to her. It was like he already knew she wasn't going to wear it today. "How did you…?" She was beginning to say when he turned around and smiled.

"A little bird told me he had a feeling you wouldn't wear it."

"Tim." Starfire shook her head, leaving the room quickly and rushing over to his room, ignoring the fact that she was running past a few of her old teammates that were already heading downstairs.

It was a rush to feel the way she felt. To let go of all the anger she was harboring and to feel happy for once without restricting her Tamaranean nature felt amazing. She was happy, not because she realized it was a setup for her to leave-no, it was that she wants to be happy. She wanted to be happy for herself, for her friends, for everyone she really cared about, and for….

"Tim!" Starfire threw the door open to his room and came charging at him at full speed. He was in the middle of tying his tie before he was suddenly knocked over onto his bed. It was too fast for him to even notice who was on him until he looked up to see Kori…no, to see Starfire.

"Kori?" He questioned, his eyes widening in pure shock before easing back down to normal size and placing a hand to her cheek. "I knew you wouldn't wear it." He spoke softly, a gentle smile placed among his lips.

She smiled back, holding back her emotions and slowly got off him. "Sorry for jumping on you." She giggled softly, helping him up and taking it into her own hands to fi his tie. "You know, someday you are going to need to know how to tie a tie, Tim." She laughed at his annoyed expression. "Yeah, yeah! I'm trying! But I have you so I don't really care right now." He added, sticking his tongue out at her. Rolling her eyes, she fixed his hair a little and offered her hand to him.

"Shall we go?"
