Not long after Eric made the call to Rescue, the paramedics arrived and rushed the daughter to the hospital. She still hadn't woken up. Horatio called Natalia and told her to head to the hospital.
Everyone gathered downstairs in the living room. Ryan had returned from outside with nothing, and Alexx had the bodies hauled off to the medical examiners building. Horatio hoped the bodies and the surviving daughter, when she woke up, would give them some leads because they had nothing.
Horatio turned to his team. "Eric, go back upstairs and process the laundry room. Fingerprints are the most likely piece of evidence we'll get from there." He turned to Calleigh. "Calleigh, head up to the surviving daughter's room. Process it. Look for anything and everything." He turned to Ryan. "Mr. Wolfe, process the remaining rooms that haven't been checked." He turned to Speed. "Speed, head back to the lab, and see what you can dig up on the family. Look for anything and everything."
Lauren's cell phone rang. She excused herself and took the call outside. Calleigh headed into the surviving daughter's room, Eric went back up to the laundry room, and Ryan headed to the unprocessed rooms.
Speed gently grabbed his boss's arm and pulled him aside. There had been a lot on his mind. He felt like talking to Horatio would help. "H, do you have a minute. I need to talk to you about something," Speed said quietly.
"Yeah. Sure. What is it, Speed?" Horatio asked.
"It's about what happened earlier with Stetler. The only other person who knew what happened between Lauren and Derek is Natalia. She's the mole. I confronted her, and she got defensive. She said there was nothing she could do, and she didn't want to talk about it. It explains everything. That's how Rick is finding out information we all talk about in private. I don't trust her anymore, H. Then this case⦠what is going on?"
"I know, Speed. I had a feeling Natalia might be behind it," Horatio said.
"But you sent her to the hospital to talk with the girl when she wakes up," Speed huffed.
"Speed, calm down. She's just there for the girl so she won't wakeup alone." Horatio looked over Speed's shoulder, and saw Lauren walk back into the house. "Don't worry about it, Speed. I'll take care of it. Just focus on the case. See what you can dig up on the family. See if they're connected to Lauren in any way, shape or form. Also keep an eye on Lauren. Have her help you, and then when the girl wakes up go to her."
"Okay, H, but I have a feeling this isn't going to end well."
Lauren called everyone into the living room. She had some news regarding the phone call she had just received. "I, uh, just got a call from Detective Fitch. He was my colleague back in Detroit. Long story short, he became like a father to me after I lost my family," Lauren started. "But the reason for the phone call." Lauren stopped for a moment to compose herself. "The reason he called was because the man that murdered my family is now a free man."
"What?" both Horatio and Speed said at the same time.
"Fitch found out this morning, that someone posted bail for him a couple days ago. That's all he knew at the moment. He said he's going to keep looking into it."
"How does someone that admittedly murdered four people in cold blood get bail after how many years?" Speed asked livid.
"I agree. This doesn't make any sense," Calleigh said.
"So this guy that murdered your family could be down here then. He could be our killer?" Ryan said.
"He is our killer. Every detail of this family's murder is exactly like my family's murder. Even the small details are correct. We find him and bring him in. I want him alive."
Eric thought of a question but wasn't sure if he should ask. This was obviously a touchy subject for Lauren. He didn't want to upset her. Eric decided to ask anyway. He hoped he wouldn't regret it.
"Why would he be here in Miami? If he wanted to kill you wouldn't he have already done it?" he asked.
"To be honest, Eric, I have no idea. That was the first thing I thought about when Fitch told me the news."
"Maybe he wants to send you a message," Ryan said.
"Maybe," Lauren said looking at Horatio. Lauren's head was spinning. She didn't know what to think. The man who murdered her family was supposed to be in prison for life. He narrowly escaped the death penalty.
"Okay. Let's regroup and focus. We now have a potential suspect in this case, assuming that he's here in Miami. Eric, Calleigh, and Ryan go back to what you were doing, but be careful. Watch your back. This man is dangerous, and has no sympathy." He turned to Speed and Lauren. "Speed, Lauren, change of plans. Head to the hospital, and I'll head back to the lab and do some digging on the family. See if there is any connection. Also tell Natalia to head back to the lab. I want to talk to her."
"We'll keep you updated, Horatio," Calleigh said as Eric and Ryan followed her up the stairs while Horatio, Speed, and Lauren headed to the hummers.
