Jack sat in a tree above North's Invention, bored out of his mind. On his shoulder sat a very upset looking Baby Tooth. He raised his hand and she padded onto it, sitting down glumly. He pulled his knees in close to himself, resting his head on them, and looking at the little fairy.

"What's wrong, Baby Tooth?" He murmured. She looked up at him, looking quite scared. She missed Tooth and the other mini fairies. It had just been bad luck she'd ended up here with Jack, having flown over with Tooth when they were called by North, falling asleep in his hoodie before she'd even realized what was going on.

"I know, I miss them too." He admitted. He wasn't having any more fun with this than she was, and looked forward to finding a way to get home.

He looked down at the ground, seeing Hiccup emerge from the machine. He had arrived yesterday after his walk looking quite dazed. Jack wondered what exactly had happened, but he brushed it off and decided to assume Hiccup wasn't used to hunting. When he and Toothless had returned they'd brought a few rabbits, which Jack had refused to eat despite their current situation, for various reasons.

"Come on; let's go see what dragon boy's up to." Jack grinned, eager to distract both him and Baby Tooth.

He landed softly on the ground beside Hiccup. The green-eyed boy looked up at him, curiosity filling his gaze all of a sudden. "Hey, Jack, I've been wondering something." He said, motioning with his hands as he spoke.

Jack blinked. "Yeah?"

"Yeah." Hiccup nodded, "Are you and Baby Tooth the only ones that are… well… the way you two are? With powers, and weird names?"

"Well, no." He replied, "There are thousands, if not millions, of fairies like Baby Tooth. There are a few others like me, one of them being the queen of the fairies."

"Who are they?" Hiccup asked, "What are they like?"

He thought for the moment. "There's North; he's the one that got us into this issue into the first place. He's a toy maker, and invents things like the machine all the time. Once a year he brings those toy's to all the children in the world who've been good. Of course, he doesn't do it all on his own, he's got elves and yeti's to help him."

"There's also Sandy, better known as the Sandman." Jack smiled at the thought of the little golden man. "He gives all the kids in the world dreams, through this thing called dream sand. Unlike North, he does it all on his own."

"Then there's Bunnymund." He rolled his eyes, "E. Aster Bunnymund. He lives underground, is a giant talking rabbit, and has an armada of chocolate eggs."

Hiccup raised an eyebrow. "An armada… of chocolate eggs?"

"Yeah." Jack laughed, "He leaves them around for kids to find once a year, and they get to keep and eat them when they find them. As weird as he is, he's a good friend."

"Is that why you wouldn't eat the rabbit?" Hiccup grinned sheepishly.

"Maybe, but don't tell him that." Jack smiled. "Oh, and of course, then there's the Tooth Fairy. She's that queen I mentioned. When a kid loses a tooth, they put it under their pillow, and she'll bring them a quarter. The teeth are all filled with memories of childhood, so her and her fairies guard them."

"They all seem to have something to do with kids." Hiccup murmured.

"That's because they do. Every one of them protects them. North protects their wonder, Sandy protects their dreams, Bunny protects their hope, and Tooth protects their memories." He replied.

"And what about you?"

"Me?" Jack asked, a grin filling his face. "I've got the best one! I protect fun. Together, the five of us make up the Guardians of Childhood!"

Hiccup chuckled at Jack's enthusiasm. "So, are you guys it? Or are there others?"

"Well, there are others who aren't a part of the Guardian's… And then, there's also the Boogeyman." A frown filled his face. "Pitch Black, the Nightmare King. He causes fear in children. Not exactly my favorite person ever."

Hiccup was about to respond, when the sound of hooves could be heard in the distance. Jack looked around, his eyes widening slightly.

"Hiccup?" Called a female voice, laced with a Scottish accent. Jack blinked and turned to look at the boy.

"Someone's been making friends." He murmured, raising an eyebrow.

Hiccup winced slightly. He had been hoping the girl would've forgotten their encounter and moved on, but clearly, that wasn't the case.

"Who is that?" Jack asked.

He sighed. "That's Merida… I met her the other day, when Toothless and I were out hunting. I was afraid of this." He groaned.

The sound of hooves stopped, and a few minutes of panicking later, the teenage girl stepped into the clearing. She pulled Angus along, holding onto him with a rope. "There ye are!" She grinned, spotting Hiccup. She tied Angus to the nearest tree, pulling the hood of her cloak of and walking over to him.

"Whoa. What's up with this chick's hair?" Jack asked, knowing fully that she wouldn't be able to see him. He flew up into the nearest tree, watching the encounter below him with great amusement.

"U-uh, hey, Merida!" Hiccup stammered, choosing to ignore the frost boy.

She turned, and her eyes widened slightly, staring directly at the machine. "What's that?" She asked, her voice filled with a mix of wonder and fear.

Toothless opened a tired eye. The dragon had been resting by North's invention, but now he sat up, alert and awake. Hiccup glanced at him, looking for help.

"What's wrong Hic, cat got your tongue?" Jack chided from his resting place in the tree. Baby Tooth frowned at him, tugging on his ear. "What?" He laughed, "I'm just having fun." She continued to chirp at him using a variety of color, but of course, he couldn't quite understand that.

Toothless stood on his feet, glancing from Hiccup to Merida. He let out a small roar, and Angus let out a whinny of fear, tugging on the rope that bound him to the tree. Merida sighed and padded over to the horse, trying to calm down the animal.

"Oh, that's not important." Hiccup laughed. "It's just, um… Where Toothless and I sleep!"

"How'd ya get it here?" She asked.

"Toothless carried it." He said quickly.

She reached into a bag strung by her side, pulling out an apple and feeding it to the horse. "Here you go, boy." She murmured. She turned back to Hiccup and added, "Oh, I almost forgot. Here ye are." She told him, tossing the bag.

Hiccup fumbled for it, barely catching it. A few apples toppled out. He quickly picked them up, shoving them back in, and taking a look to see what was in the bag. It was filled with pastries and apples of all sorts. "Oh, um… Thanks." He smiled.

"Finally, something I can actually eat." Jack said, hopping out of the tree and wandering over to where Hiccup stood. He reached for the bag, but it was quickly pulled away.

"Would you shut it?" He hissed, facing Jack, and quickly realizing his mistake.

Merida turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "…Did I say something?"

"Oh, no… It's just… That friend of mine, Jack, who I told you about…" Hiccup scratched the back of his head, regretting his words immediately after they came out. There was no way he would be able to explain this, and really, why had he brought it up to begin with?

"Yer friend Jack?" Merida asked, "um… and where exactly might he be?"

"Beside me." Hiccup motioned to the invisible Jack, "I mean, he's not exactly visible per say, not to you at least, but… it's just… it's… complicated." He put a defensive hand up in front of him, running the other one through his hair with his eyebrows furrowed.

Merida took a few steps towards the brown-haired boy, standing in front of the empty air beside him. She blinked, not quite believing him. Then again, the boy did have a dragon, a perfectly visible one at that, and he was in hiding as well- Clearly, he wasn't exactly the average visitor. She might as well give him a chance to explain himself. "I'm listening."

"His full name is Jack Frost. He's not a normal person like you and me."

"Jack Frost?" Merida asked, her voice vacant. The name triggered a spark in her memory. She had heard the same story just a few days before from her mum. The redheaded girl narrowed her eyes, and looked back towards the castle, where her family was. "…I think I've heard of him. The one who brings the ice and snow? So he's real? Why can't I see him?"

"You can only see him if you believe in him," Hiccup explained, "It was easy for me. Back on Berk, where I live, everyone believes in him."

She turned back to look at Hiccup, and her eyes widened at the boy she saw out of the corner of her eye. "Jack Frost…" She murmured.

The boy widened his eyes in surprise. "…You can see me?"

Ackackackack. Sorry. 4 months since I last uploaded. I feel terrible :B But hey- I've decided to start writing this thing again, even if the summer is over and I've started school again. I noticed a new review in my email and kinda remembered this fic, so I figured I'd pick it up again! Updates should be much more regular from now on, I promise.

I'm also really excited to introduce Rapunzel- I had a lot planned for this, and there are a few plot twists surrounding her that I look forwards to.

I promise there'll be a new update soon!
