The next morning came shinning through the holes in the ceilings onto the burnt out campfire. I groggily woke from where I was feeling slightly stiff. I had a good sleep, but my back ached like crazy. I tried rise on all fours when I realized an arm was still around me. I looked to who slept beside me. My heart quickened at the site. I thought sleeping with Keeper was a dream. I guess not. I watched him silently, as he still slept. I had almost disturbed his sleep. I made a smile feeling like a big goof-ball for even smiling. I had to try and stop, but it failed. I sighed happily.
I looked around the habitat. Its strangeness was still something I needed to get use to. Not only did it look prehistoric, but there was herbs growing that normally doesn't grow here anymore. The early sun shun on the mist that floated near the ground of the habitat making it look haunted and to where something could hide without being seen till it was too late. That thought made me shake my whole body in a quick shiver.
I heard shifting behind me me. Looking over my shoulder, Keeper was awake looking at me. I gave him a nervous smile. He looked like he had no clue what to reply in this situation. Instead, he decided to sit up. I rolled to my belly feeling stiff. I stretched like a dog, then arched my back, afterward I sat on my legs. I yawned like a dog or cat, by pulling my lips as far back as possible baring my teeth as I yawned. That way of yawning does not tire out my jaw as bad as a normal yawn since I yawn almost all day. As I snapped my mouth shut, I looked to Keeper noticing a surprised look. I gave him a questioning look. "What is wrong?" I broke the quite morning.
Keeper had nothing to say at first. "Your teeth are pointed." He finally replies. I stared at him confused. I felt my teeth with my tongue. My blood ran cold. He was right. My teeth were sharp. Needle sharp to be exact. I opened my mouth touching my hand to my teeth. "What did Eye Shock say he could do?" He asked.
I thought for a moment. "To be able to show you 'true form'?" I answered.
"And what would you think your 'true form' could be?" He asked. I noticed he looked really concerned.
I thought for a moment. What would be my 'true form'? I thought. "If I am correct," I finally spoke still thinking, "I should be a dragon." I thought more. "I should be about 14-17 feet in height." I then thought about my wings. "And my wingspan would be double my body length." I looked up to Keeper again.
He looked to be thinking or imagining my dragon form. He then looks around the habitat. "Will you still fit in here?" He asked looking at me again.
I looked around seeing the huge dome-like look of the habitat. It was definitely big enough to store at least five of my sized dragon self and have them all fly at once. I looked back to him. "Yes," I nodded. "It is big enough for about five of me to fly here."
"Then we need to find a way for you to get out of here when you are needed, and if you you are needed." He said thinking again.
I rolled my eyes. "If I am right, I won't need to worry about a way out." I said. He looks at me confused. "I may be able to transform back into human." He nodded understand. "If Eye Shock can change me to my 'true form', then I should have my powers in that form too." I then dreaded the other bit. "And my weaknesses." I sighed, though, I am quite proud to have some of the weaknesses as I felt special with them.
"And what would be your powers and weaknesses?" He asked obviously curious.
I really did not want him to know the weakness, though, it might help to give him a heads up on those. "My powers are elemental powers of the ice, wind, lightning, and moonlight." I began then thought of my weaknesses. "As for my weaknesses, I typically have very sensitive skin, my scales aren't those of most dragons. They don't overlap one another. I have skin of an iguana, or chameleon, or reptiles with similar skin to those two. I have two sets of fans on my tail, as you saw on my costume, they will rip with ease. I know this through dreams." I thought of more. "The only thing is, I don't know if I have forearms, hind legs, and wings; or if I have hind legs then I walk on my wings."
Keeper nods at this information. "I will make sure nothing happens to you in that form." I nodded slowly. I was in deep thought. Without warning, he grabbed me into a hug. I was caught off guard for a bit, but I soon returned the hug. He let go of me after a bit. "Why don't we get you started on your work?" He suggests.
~Hey, Silver?~ I hear Tyler call.
"Yes?" I respond through the communications device.
~We found that lady that lost her gem.~ Tyler said. ~She seems to be looking for you.~
I look to Keeper with slight confusion. "We will be right over." I replied as I set away the communicator. Keeper and I rose to our feet then walked toward the main part of the base. As we walked back, Keeper stuck right beside me. It was strange how fast it took Keeper and me just to stick next to each other in the underground habitat. It was also strange how we would not do this around the other Rangers. I don't do it because of Kendall, or I would not care what anyone says.
Once there, I noticed the same lady I had seen those few days ago. She had dropped a peridot gem, but she left before I could even try to return it. Now, she stood there talking with Shelby. She did not seem pleased by what the lady was telling her. She looked to me. "Oh good," Shelby said relieved. "Now you can talk to her."
The lady turns to me with a smiling at me made me feel very uncomfortable. I could not tell what she looked like thanks to her cloak's hood over her head. It made her look like one of those villains trying to conceal their identity till the final encounter or something. "Do you have the gem?" She asked. I looked at her confused. Was she talking about my Energem? I thought. Then I realized what she really meant. I reached into my pocket to bring out the lime green peridot. She kept her smile at the site of her gem. "My name is Crystal, and my cat is Gemstone." I looked around wondering where her cat was. "Gem," she sounded as if she could not prevent from laughing, "stop hiding." And with that a cat appeared on one of the lab tables. What caught me off guard was her peridot green pelt. Her eyes were as green as emeralds. Her pelt color was strange to me.
"Is it me or is that cat red?" Tyler asked confused. I looked to him then to the others. They all wore confused looks.
"I see black." Chase replied.
"Well," Shelby spoke, "I see pink."
"I see blue." Koda replies.
"I see Green." Riley spoke then looks to me. "Silver, what do you see?"
I stared at him confused why were they seeing their ranger colors while I was seeing my birthstone? "I see my birthstone color." I held up the peridot. I looked to Crystal. "How is it we see different colors?"
Crystal smiled. "The rangers see their Energem color." She looks to each before to me. "Since you did not morph, you see your birthstone gem instead." She looks to Keeper and Kendall. They had not given what they see Gem's pelt color as. "And few can see her true form." Crystal spoke looking to Keeper. I stared at Keeper confused.
"I see a spirit." Keeper replies. Is that her true form? I look back to Gem concentrating on seeing her true form. For a moment, I thought I could see her true form. That was until I felt Keeper rest his hand on my shoulder. I jumped looking up to him. He was giving me a 'what are you doing' expression. I looked back to see Gem giving me a mischievous grin, her eyes changed to a white coloring. My blood ran cold at her look. She looks to Crystal. They both smiled at each other as if knowing something we don't.
Crystal looks to me. Her expression fell to a serious one. "You will be forced to take two paths. You can't claim two." She spoke as if it was an omen. I had no clue what she meant by that. My path was to save my parents with the help of the rangers. I never really thought of staying till Keeper came into my life. Now, I am having trouble whether I should go home or stay here when my mission is over.
"What does it mean?" Chase asked, as everyone looked to me expectantly. My face turned red from being the center of attention.
"I…I don't know." I replied not sure what to really say. I looked to my feet still feeling their gazes bore into me. I was afraid that I was going to get the omen wrong.
"We will figure it out, don't worry, Silver." Keeper reassured. He then turns to the lady. "Any other reason you are here?"
Crystal smiled at me. "I am only here because the peridot calls me." She points to the peridot in my hand. "It knows she is troubled by something."
I eyed her cautiously. "How can a gemstone know when I feel troubled?" I asked completely confused and nervous at the same time.
"Your corresponding birthstone will know your feelings and behavior when it is near you." Crystal explained. I nodded not knowing what else to say. "I am also here not to just visit, but tell you I dropped the gemstone on purpose. It will help you. You just have to listen to the gem." She thought for a moment. "Now, what seems to be the problem?" She looks smiles gently at me.
I heart lurched feeling dread creep up. I backed away fearfully. Keeper, like always, notices I was frightened. He rests his arm around my shoulder. I got to cower beside him. "I don't want to talk about it." I said near a whisper. I just wanted to hide. I noticed the team looking at me expectantly.
"Silver," Chase spoke up. "If there is anything bothering you, you should let us know." I stared at Chase for a moment before turning my head, burying my face on Keeper's robe. "Is it something we did, or…"
"She is just having trouble understanding how a team works." Keeper explained. "She thinks she let you down." I stiffened feeling that horrible feeling to cry again. All I wanted was to hide.
"We were only following orders." Chase replied.
Shelby scoffed. "Says the one who nearly burnt the museum down."
"Not the time to bring that up." Tyler replied.
Chase continued. "What are we supposed to do? Let her get attacked?" He sounded like someone would say yes.
Keeper did not reply right away. "You are right, Chase." He finally said. "You and the Rangers followed my orders through. You even succeeded in getting information, along with defeating Eye Shock." He pauses momentarily. "And I am afraid that the rule sticks till she can morph."
"What if we are not around and she is in danger?" Riley asked. "What will she do? She must learn to defend herself."
"Yes, that is a matter we should discuss." Tyler spoke up. "She can't leave the base without one of us," he gestures to the other Rangers, "being around her."
"Very well." Keeper said after a pause. "We will train her basic fighting skills to be able to defend herself." I did not know what to do. Since I hid my face, I did not want to see the world at the moment. "Silver?" I hear him ask. "What do you think? I would prefer you to learn basic fighting skills, but it is your choice."
I thought for a moment. "I would like to train." I mumbled through his robe. I really did not like being followed around by the other Rangers.
"My job here is done." Crystal nods. "May we meet again, Power Rangers of the Dinosaurs." I heard some shuffling then footsteps walking away toward the glass doors.
A gust of wind past as fur grazed my cheek. "I know your secret." Gem spoke. "I can see you like him." Her voice sounded teasing. I huddled closer to Keeper trying to get away from her. "He likes you too, you know." She continued to tease. "Why don't you…"
"Would you mind leaving Silver alone?" Keeper asked, sounding irritated with Gem's teasing. I knew he could hear her every word she was hissing to me in my ear.
Gem's hot breath left my ear. "Fine," she exasperated whipping wind after Crystal. Now I did not want to come out of hiding at all.
"Come on," Kendall's voice spoke up, "let's get back to work." I heard the team mumble something before making their way to the Dino Café above. We were soon left alone, once again.
Keeper did not speak for a while. I assumed it was to make sure the others left and could not eavesdrop. "They are gone, Silver." He informed me. I did not budge from my spot. I was too nervous. "You can't hide from the world for too long." He told me. There was no irritation, only gentle. I slowly, and finally, stepped back from him. "Much better." He told me. "Come. We must check the computers to see if there is any energy signal or other clues." We went over to the computers. I was assigned to the monitor while Keeper checked the other stuff.
Some time into that, I began to get really drowsy. I was getting so tired, I wanted to curl up in my bedding and sleep. "Silver," I hear Keeper asked, concerned. He walked up next to me. I tried to shake the sleep away. "Are you okay?" He asked. I looked over to him trying not to nod off. "Why don't we take a walk." He suggested. I yawned then nodded. To me, it seems that I was spending more time with Keeper more than anywhere or anyone. I mostly stuck in the base. Now, he had offered to take a walk. I wondered to where. He led me out through the glass doors, placing his hood over his head again. This disappointed me. I really did like it when his hood was down, though, I never told him this I do always think of it.
Outside, he led me straight to the forest. Was it me or does know what I wanted? I shook the thought. Of course he knew. I was the one who told him, after all. I walked up beside him staring at him expectantly. He looks to me and I looked away. I wanted to start a conversation on the way, but I honestly don't know how. I then thought of at least one thing. "Is there a way I can see my dog, Rusty?" I asked hopeful.
Keeper did not respond at first. I assumed the answer was no. "Yes." Was his answer. I smiled weakly, but the smile disappeared quickly. "You seem like you are on the edge. What is the problem?" He asked. "Was it Crystal and Gemstone who has gotten you on edge?"
I nodded calmly. "Gem knows…" I paused afraid to let him know how I felt about him, though, he already knows.
He nods understanding. "…that you like me." He finishes for me. For a moment my eyes widened. I nodded slowly to let him know he was right. "I already know." He told me. "What is so wrong in saying that you like me out loud?"
My heart quickened. I look up to see him staring at me expecting an answer. "There is nothing wrong." I said looking away. "I just get easily embarrassed. It doesn't just happen to you, it would happen to any guy I liked. I don't have the guts to even say it in fear they would reject me."
"But how will you know if he likes you back if you don't tell?" Keeper asked obviously finding it hard to understand how my mind processes this stuff.
"I keep daydreaming then." I answered.
"And yet, you are telling me all of this now?" He asked me. My heart quickened again. "I am not mad, I just can't understand how you could keep it all to yourself."
I shook my head. "I tell really good friends about the ones I like, though nervous, I still find it easier to confide to them than to the one I like." I hoped that made any sense to him. I noticed Keeper nodded slowly.
We stood in front of the forest not long later. We both did not stop at the edge, we continued in. I find it relaxing walking through the forest. The mid-day sun at its highest, the birds singing, and other natural sounds of the forest. It was just beautiful to me. We walked alongside a river flowing gently, rippling over the rocks as it goes. I just wanted to stand there and listen to nature, but something seemed to be on Keeper's mind because we did not stop. When he stopped, it was only to make sure nothing snuck up on us or something. This made me a little nervous. He finally stops at the lake. I remembered this location from when we both slept together for the first time together.
He turned to me. "You remember when I said you should learn some basic fighting just to protect yourself?" He asked. I nodded. Don't tell me I am going to train. "Well, you should learn right now." He said. I felt nervous. I really don't to fight. What if I made a fool of myself. He looks around the floor of the forest. I did not know what was looking for till he went over and picked up a pretty good lengthy stick. It was the length of a sword. He tosses it to me. I caught it, though, it nearly slipped out my hand. Once he made sure I had a good grasp, he readied himself to teach me.
I looked at him nervously. What am I supposed to do? I don't want to hurt him.
Noticing I was nervous, Keeper sighed. "You should not let fear get the best of you." He told me as he walked up to me. "Simply followed what I do." He told me. "If you mess up, I will correct you." I nodded, though, I really did not want to do this. He got into an attack stance, I followed in command shortly after. "Good," he said. "Now, see if you can block my attacks." He got a good distance away where he could attack. "Since you are a beginner, I will go slow; but over time, I will not make it easy." My heart raced. How I will block him, beats me. I only had a stick and he had a staff. I just had to hope that he was right about going slow. I would so not be able to block if he was too fast.
(For the love of lord, I am horrible at fighting scenes.)
Some time went by with the blocking practice. I, of course, could only get a few blocks out of about a hundred of them. I did not get hit, mainly because I dodged out of fear. That obviously did not please Keeper since we were practicing my blocking not dodging. I may have quick reflexes, but I showed them in the wrong way.
Keeper was leading me back to the base. I was still slightly frightened. Who wouldn't be frightened when someone was striking something at you and you could easily get hurt? I was walking beside him a little weary, but I did not show it. I can't see him doing any sort of surprise attacks unless I was an enemy. I looked up to the sky wincing from the sharp pain the bright light gave me. By the looks, it was an hour past noon. I had no watch, but I could so what tell time with the position of the sun. We had been practicing for quite a long time by the looks. As I looked forward again, I noticed Keeper looking at me from the corner of my eyes. I blushed as I looked to the floor doing my best to think of something else. "Nice day, right?" He asked.
That was so random, I practically froze. I thought my heart stopped for a moment. "I guess," I answered. "If you like the bright light." I mumbled that part to myself, but Keeper seems to have heard.
"Is something wrong?" He asked worried.
I did not look at him. "I don't like the sun." I said.
"How can you not like the sun?" He asked astonished by how I felt about the solar system's star.
I grew hot with embarrassment. I mentally hit myself for being so mouse-brained. "I mean, I like the sun when it gives the plants the photosynthesis; but I don't like how bright it is."
Seeming to only half understand, he still nods. "Then I guess we practice at night or in our home." He said wrapping an arm around my shoulder. I looked like a tomato now. This obviously amused Keeper for he smiled at me. This made the feeling worse. Why did I get like this when I am around him?
Back in the base, the team was no where to be seen. Keeper brought me to the tunnel that led to our underground habitat home. To me, I loved how much it was nature. I was so pleased to know Keeper had let me stay with him in his habitat.
I looked around enjoying the site. Keeper still had his arm around my shoulder. I had become use to it so I did not blush, but that did not mean my heart was calm too. No. It was still racing for even being so close to him. I thought my heart was going to stop eventually. Since those past few days, he had become more bold to even give me a hug. I was glad he did not decide to even kiss me. I might have almost literally died. I thought of that scene. I felt weak in my knees. I couldn't tell him my thought, that would be weird. To mention he might not even except the thought. I just had to tell him that my mind wonders a lot. This tends to happen to me. I do hate it at times because I can't focus nor clear my mind.
Keeper stopped letting go of me. He turns to me. "We should continue with your herb lessons." He said as he sat on a rack. I comfortably sat on the floor. I did not look at him till he started the lesson. I listened contently since I loved learning about herbs.
