A/N- Hello again everyone! I'm sorry that its been so long that I've updated any of my stories; this one especially. Life is hectic and it's taking some time for me to figure out how and when to work updating chapters into my schedule. But I think I've got a method that will work. Updates may not as on schedule as I hope at first, but just be patient. I promise I'm working on it. Anyways, I hope you like this chapter and continue to read. Reviewing is always much appreciated!
"ETA one hour to Noveria, Shepard." Joker said to Shelby from his seat.
"Thanks Joker. Wait, what did you just call me?"
"Uhh, Shelby. I'm pretty sure I said Shelby."
Shelby chuckled and smiled. "I'm only teasing you Joker. Let me know when we get close, ok?"
"Aye Aye!"
Shelby smiled and turned from Joker in his chair and headed towards her room. Shelby was glad to finally be getting back to the main task at hand. She had spent the past few weeks on the Citadel and exploring other Galaxies for secondary missions. Even though she still had a list of them to do, she needed something a bit more important to refocus her mind.
On her most recent priority mission, Shelby went to Ferros to investigate the sudden overwhelming presence of Geth. Which in turn, led to Shelby helping out the ExoGeni labs. But when the colonists said that the Thorian was a plant, she was expecting something that, you know, lived off of some sort of soil and water. Not some huge slimy thing that spits out Asari clones, and makes Thorian Zombies like a pair of mating rabbits. but it still wasn't anything she Garrus, and Kaidan couldn't handle.
Speaking of Kaidan, he has calmed down since the last time we heard about him. He wasn't so stand off-ish anymore and gave Shelby and Garrus his full respect. Shelby was just glad to see that he had finally come to terms with the fact that he had been friend zoned and still was. Plus, Shelby needed her crew sane and at their best for these missions. Shelby opened the door to her room and plopped down in the nearest chair. She had an hour to relax and prepare for Noveria. She was thankful for the down time. It seemed like she had been nonstop going ever since she got her Spectre status. Not that she minded at all, she loves helping people, but it was still tiring.
There was a knock at Shelby's door and she groaned to herself.
"Figures. Right when my butt hits the chair." She quietly mumbled.
'Maybe if I'm quiet, they'll go away.' She thought.
"Alright, fine Shel. Ill just go back to my calibrations." Garrus said from outside her door.
Shelby almost knocked her chair over as she sprang out of it for the door.
"No! No! No! Wait! Wait! Wait!" She exclaimed as she darted for the door and opened it.
She found Garrus standing outside of the door with his version of a smirk on his face. "I thought that would work." He teased her.
Shelby smiled at him and motioned for him to come in. Garrus walked over to her table with her and sat in one of the two chairs, Shelby sitting across from him.
"What are you doing all the way over there? You know I don't bite." Garrus said.
Shelby rolled her eyes a little and got up, walked over to him, and lightly plopped into his lap.
Garrus chuckled a little. "That's not quite what I meant, but that's better." He said as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Are you ready for Noveria? I have a weird feeling about it. Matriarch Benezia is Liara's mother. I know what its like to loose the closest family I've got. I...I just don't want to have to put Liara through that."
"I'm ready. And Liara is too. I've talked to her a little. She said, and I quote, "The woman my mother is now is not the woman I will remember her by if the worse comes to pass; and I will apprehend her myself if I must." She'll be alright." Garrus reassured Shelby.
Shelby smiled a little. "She fits right in around here. Thank you Garrus."
"I'm always here for you, Shel. whatever you need, anytime."
"I know. So, was there a particular reason you stopped all of your calibrations just to see me?" Shelby asked curiously.
"There has to be a specific reason?" Garrus asked, slight amusement apparent in his tone.
Shelby chuckled and smiled. "No. I was only curious."
Garrus smiled back at her and put his forehead to hers. Shelby smiled and closed her eyes. She loved these moments. It was just the two of them and everything in their surroundings seemed to fade away, so it seemed like they were the only two people in the world. The two really just enjoyed being around each other. Shelby jumped when Joker came over the comm.
"20 minutes to Noveria, Shelby."
Shelby slumped against Garrus in a "good grief" manner. "Thanks Joker." Shelby sighed a little as she looked to Garrus. "We'd better get ready. Tell Liara she's coming with you and I, and grab your gear. Let's figure out what's going on here." Shelby stood up, Garrus following her.
"Wait just a second." Garrus said and Shelby turned around. Garrus pulled Shelby to him and dipped her as he kissed her. He brought her back up and she shied a bit as her cheeks turned cherry red.
"Damn it Vakarian. You're the only freakn' person here on this flippn' ship that can make me blush."
Garrus chuckled. "I know." he said and smiled to her before he left.
