I am back! The next chapter is out! Yes! It felt good to write this chapter. For those of you wondering why this took so long to get out, I change a lot of things. If you're curious, please read my notes after the story. Anyways, enjoy!
"Where are you taking us?" Accelerator asked.
The three were rushing down the streets of Academy City, passing from district to district, taking back alleys and side streets.
"We're going to go see some acquaintances of mine who will help."
"Help? Who's invading Academy City anyways?" Mikoto asked as she rushed to keep along.
"…." Yumi stopped and turned to look at the two. "The Magic Side." She turned and started walking quickly again, the two following her.
"The Magic Side?" The boy asked. "That doesn't really answer much. What's the Magic Side?"
"It's a lot to explain…"
"We have time."
"…" Yumi sighed. "Fine."
I wonder if Aleister planned for them to find out the entire time…
Gunha ran back to Misaki.
"What did they say?"
"They found out too." He replied, saying the first thing that came to mind.
"At least they know… What should we do?"
"Find another way to access the computers from another place. I have something I need to do."
"Something you need to do?" She asked. "Did Yumi give you something else to do?"
"Yes." He lied. "So, please go. I'll meet up with you as soon as I can.
"Right." She turned and ran another way to search for an accessible computer.
Gunha sighed.
"Now, the fun starts." He walked past the room and around a corner where he saw two panicked scientists speaking with each other.
He quietly walked up behind them and punched one in the head, sending him flying into the wall at the end of the hallway.
"What the…!?" The other started to say before the boy grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against the wall. "Gah! Who… the fuck… are you!?" The man said, trying to breathe.
"I'm an enemy. Now… Please be so kind as to point me to where you're holding your… special prisoner."
"You… You're… with the Magic Side!?"
He smiled.
"What does it matter if I am?" He pulled the man back and slammed him against the wall again. "Now tell me what I want to know or I'll kill you!"
"Okay!" Gunha released his grip, letting the man fall to the ground. He took out a map of the laboratory that each scientist was given. He gave the boy directions and he took the map.
"Thanks for your cooperation." Gunha kicked the man in the side of the head and he fell to the ground, unconscious. "Now then…" He looked at the map and took off in the direction the man had told him.
"Damn…" Teitoku mumbled.
The three had decided to go to the testing rooms despite the news that Academy City had been invaded.
"What's wrong?" Shizuri asked as they tried to move quickly through the hallways.
"My head hurts…" He said, putting a hand to his head.
"Deactivate your ability…" She said suddenly.
"What?"
"You ran out of time. You shouldn't even be able to use it right now, but somehow you forced yourself to. Deactivate it."
Teitoku did as he was told and deactivated his ability. His headache slowly faded.
"You're right… What was that about?" He mumbled.
"Let's not worry about it right now. We have more important things to do." Saiai said.
They reached a set of metal doors and Shizuri disintegrated them with her Meltdowner.
"Hey…" Teitoku said as they walk in the room. "How do you keep your ability activated for so long?"
Shizuri looked at him curiously.
"What do you mean? The time I can keep my ability activated is less than yours. I only activate it when I need it. Even in a battle, I deactivate it unless I need immediate defense or immediate offense."
"I see… That's smart. I should work on doing that."
"Good idea."
The room was like any other testing room. It had a glass window with a white room beyond it used for testing. The room they were currently in was filled with filing cabinets and computers. They began looking through whatever they can.
Teitoku slid open a filing drawer and drew out a filed with a syringe in it. He read over the paper that was with it.
"Saiai." He said and she came over. "Hold out your arm."
"Why…?"
"Just do it." He interrupted.
She held out her arm and he grabbed it.
"What…?"
"This might hurt a bit." He stuck the needle in her arm and injected the fluid into her.
Saiai looked like she was holding in a scream.
"What the super hell are you doing!?" She asked loudly.
He finished and took out the needle.
"There."
"What was that!?" The girl asked with a hint of panic.
"The antidote for the drug you took. It should stop the effects of your long term ability use. This way, you can return to using your ability normally and you don't have to worry about dying."
"Oh… Thank you…" She said, rubbing her arm.
Saiai looked like she wanted to say something else, but just walked away.
"Hey, come look at this." Shizuri said and the two came over. She was holding a file with a bunch of papers stuffed into it.
Gunha punched down the metal door easily, opening the passageway to the prison. It was devoid of guards.
"I guess they all went there…" He mumbled.
The prison was like a hallway. The cells were lined up neatly on both side of the room.
He started walking, looking in all the cells. There were various prisoners, none of whom he recognized.
"Dammit, she has to be here somewhere." He looked around some more. "Orsola!" He yelled.
"… p."
He heard something. Just barely. He started rushing quicker down the room.
"Orsola?" He called out.
"Help…"
Gunha stopped. He looked to his side.
There was a solid steel door with a small window to look through. He looked inside.
Sure enough, the nun sat there.
"Orsola Aquinas!" He called out.
She looked up.
"Who… are you…?"
He smiled.
"Don't worry. I'm on your side. My name is Sogiita Gunha. I'll get you out of here and back to safety."
She showed him the kindest smile.
"Thank you, Gunha."
"Right. Now let's see…" He grabbed the door and prepared to pull it off its hinges.
"Is this really what the Magic Side was planning while I was gone?"
He froze. That voice. He knew it.
Slowly, Gunha turned around.
Sure enough, Kamijou Touma stood there with a blank look.
"You…"
"Sogiita Gunha." He sighed. "I didn't think you were stupid enough to try something like this just because I was away. Oh wait… You're just following orders aren't you?"
"Kamijou Touma… I heard you were just leaving England. What? You couldn't wait to see me or something?"
Touma smirked.
"I was just leaving England… And now I'm here… Interesting, isn't it? Let's just say I had some indirect magic assistance."
"Indirect huh…" Gunha sighed. "Well, what are you doing here anyways?"
"Stopping you."
"What? Don't you take orders from the Magic Side? I'm just trying to free a prisoner."
"Idiot." Touma replied. "I don't take every order they give me. Especially not now…" He laughed a little. "Really… To think the Archbishop and Fiamma are stupid enough to try something just because I'm not here… It's… pitiful."
"Right…" Gunha said. His explanation hadn't cleared up everything, but it was enough for now. "I see you don't have the Index Liborum Prohibitorum with you." He said, trying to shift the subject.
"I thought this could be dangerous for her." He smiled. "Though I think she can hold her own ground… After all…" Touma held his right hand in front of him. "I destroyed her restraints with Imagine Breaker. The churches fear her now."
"I'm not sure fear is the right word… They just want to keep her in check."
"Regardless… The small talk is over. You can leave now or I can drag your limp body out of here."
"I don't plan on giving up…" He didn't know why he was saying this. He knew very well that he stood no chance against Touma. "So, you'll have to stop me with force."
"That's just the way I like it." Touma laughed. "The first move's yours."
"Don't regret that…"
Gunha brought his fist back and air swirled around it as if it was some type of visible energy. The level 5 shot forward to the boy and swung his fist at him.
"This…" Teitoku said, reading the papers.
It was a profile for Gunha.
"Look at this." Shizuri pointed to a note on the bottom.
It has been confirmed that Sogiita Gunha is working with the Magic Side. A warning to all members of SHIFT: Do not approach him. He is highly dangerous and we risk a conflict with the Magic Side if he is attacked.
"What…? No way…" The boy said. "There's no way Gunha's working for the Magic Side. He wouldn't betray us."
"What if he's not betraying you? Shizuri asked. "What if he's been working for them all along?"
"Do you really think he would do something like that?"
"There's only one way to find out really… And that's to ask him in person."
He sighed.
"Fine. Well, as a precaution…" He took out his cellphone and called somebody.
Misaki typed on a computer in the research room. Her cellphone rang and she picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Misaki. It's Teitoku."
"Hey, what's going on? I'm trying to get into their…"
She was cut off by his words.
"Be careful."
"What? Of course I'm being…"
"No. I mean around Gunha."
She stopped.
"Why? Did something happen?"
"Gunha's working for the Magic Side."
"What!? That has to be a lie! Why are you telling me this!?"
"We found proof. I'll show you later. I'm just saying to be careful around him. Are you with him right now?"
"Well… He said he'd go look around while I do this, so no."
"Good. Get that done and get out of there as fast as possible."
"Wait. But…"
Teitoku hung up.
She looked at her phone.
"What was that about…? Gunha working for the Magic Side…?"
She sighed.
"For now, I'll just get this done."
Somebody cleared their throat behind her.
"I don't think that's necessary." A voice said.
"Wha…?" She turned to see who it was, but was met with darkness as the person covered her eyes. "Hey!" She reached for her remote, but a hand knocked it away from her.
"This would be so much easier if you wouldn't resist. You're just making this harder."
She couldn't see who it was and didn't recognize the voice.
"Who are you?"
"Does it matter?" The person said. It was a boy's voice.
Misaki was about to say something else, but a sharp pain in her head stopped her thoughts. She blacked out.
Yumi knocked on a metal door.
The three were in a back alley. The door she had knocked on was the entrance to a rather broken down place that looked like the city had just forgotten about it.
The door slid open without anybody even checking who was knocking.
A girl with dark red hair tied into two ponytails stood there. She wore bandages to cover her breasts and a short pleated skirt with the Kirigaoka Girl's Academy's uniform dark blue coat on her shoulders like a cape.
"Huh?" The girl said upon seeing them. "Yumi? What are you doing here?"
Yumi smiled.
"Long time, no see, Awaki."
"…" She looked at the level 5's. "I see… Come on in."
The three walked in and the door shut behind them.
The inside was much nicer. There were furnishing everywhere and the place was full of monitors. Various people sat among the computers, typing quickly.
"Now's no the best time considering the state of emergency we're in…" Awaki said. She looked at the level 5's again. "Considering who you're with though, I assume you know about it and that you're not here for a friendly reunion."
"Sorry. That can wait. We need to know the exact situation."
"The exact situation huh?" Awaki looked at a monitor. "Vento of the Front is here. Also, I've heard that someone spotted Sityl Magnus. Besides the two, we don't know who else could be here."
"They sent a member of God's Right Seat?" She sighed. "Dammit. They must be pretty serious about this."
"Are you kidding me?" Awaki asked, getting her attention. "This is all a game to Fiamma and the Archbishop. They're probably watching from afar with some type of scrying magic."
"I don't doubt that…"
"Well, whatever. So, why did you bring those two here?"
"We're here to help." Mikoto said. "In any way we can."
"You guys… really have no idea what you're up against."
"I can take on anything." Accelerator said.
Awaki smiled and walked up to him. She leaned in close.
"The one who wields the power of God, huh?" She leaned closer, so their faces were only inches apart. He could feel her breath on him. "A real God would crush you in an instant. You probably want to start praying that you never come face-to-face with a Magic God."
"That's pretty blunt." He replied. "I guess I'll just have to become more powerful. Should I start by tearing your limbs off and destroying all of your internal organs?"
"That's cute." She said. "I could fall for you when you have that kind of attitude." She leaned into him. "Unless you prefer girls with big breasts, that is."
"Can you please stop messing around?" Yumi interrupted.
Awaki laughed and backed away.
"Yeah. I'm done." She looked around at them. "Well, now that you know the situation, how do you intend on handling it?"
"By destroying anything that gets in our way." Mikoto replied.
"You say that lightly." Awaki said. "I wonder if you could really kill all your enemies when ti comes down to it."
"Don't worry about us." Accelerator said. "Worry about keeping the residents of the city safe."
"Yeah... However…" She said slowly. "You two are very powerful. So are your friends. You're level 5's… But levels mean nothing to the Magic Side. An army of the city's most powerful level 4's would be crushed beneath them instantly. That is why we have to rely on the seven level 5's."
"Six of us, now."
"Seven."
"The Particle Disruptor is dead."
"Do you really think that attack would kill her?"
Accelerator and Mikoto looked surprised.
"Unfortunately, she was not able to reach level 6 in time… But that won't stop her."
"You're… working with SHIFT?" The boy asked.
"No. I did, however, support their plan to make her a level 6." She sighed. "They still might succeed in making her Dual-Skill."
"What?"
"You remember how you were turned into an Esper, right? The medicine and the electrodes? It's the same basic concept that they were using on her." She explained. "They were basically manipulating her thought patterns so that she could handle a second ability."
"Couldn't they have used that method to make her a level 6?"
"Possibly. They were too afraid that it would kill her if they tried. They tested it on level 4's and they showed improvement. Of course, their power didn't even reach close to level 5, but it was still a significant change. They were afraid on the repercussions it could have on a level 5."
"I see… Well then… Why don't you give us the location of these magicians?"
"You're really planning on fighting them, aren't you?"
"Of course." He replied. "There's still questions that haven't been answered yet… Like why we were separated."
Awaki smiled.
"Interesting. Fair enough, then."
She informed them on all she could about the two magicians, including how powerful they were.
"Thanks."
The two level 5's rushed from the building.
"Are you sure you're okay letting them go like that?" Awaki asked the girl.
"Yes. They're ready… I hope…" Yumi replied.
"If you're sure…"
"Thanks for helping out." She said and turned to the door.
"You're leaving already?"
"I have something I need to do. I'll see you later."
"Yeah. See you."
The girl walked out the door.
"Well…" Saiai said as she threw another folder onto the ground. "That was a super waste of time…"
The three had searched through the files for quite some time and had found no valuable information.
"Then what do we do?" Teitoku asked.
"Let's get out of here." Shizuri said.
"What? We can't just..." He started.
"Academy City is being attacked. We need to go."
Teitoku was reluctant to agree, but he had to admit that she had a point. As level 5's, it was their job to protect Academy City and they intended to do just that.
"Fine. Let's go."
The three quickly made their way out of the base. They met with no resistance as they made their way outside.
"They must be really busy trying to deal with this invasion." Shizuri said as she waited while the boy hotwired a car that had been parked outside the building recently.
The car started and they got in.
"I guess…" He said as he pulled out of the parking lot and made his way through a side street to reach a main street. He took a left.
Shizuri was tempted to ask him where he learned how to hotwire a car, but she figured that it was something better left unasked.
"Do you have a driver's license?"
"No."
"A permit?"
"No."
She was suddenly not feeling so well letting him drive the car. However, they hadn't gotten into an accident yet and he wasn't swerving off the road hitting civilians, so she thought it wasn't so bad.
"Where are we super going?" Saiai asked from the back.
"I don't know." He took out his cellphone and dialed Yumi's number. "I'm about to find out."
He waited. After three rings, the girl picked up.
"Hello?"
"Yumi. Academy City's being invaded, as I'm sure you know by now. We need details."
"A magician by the name Vento of the Front, of God's Right Seat is here." That meant nothing to him. "Also, accompanying her, is a magician of Necessarius, Stiyl Magnus."
"I don't know much about the Magic Side, so I really have no idea what all of that means. Can I get a location on them?"
"No need."
"What?"
"Accelerator and the Railgun are on their way to them right now."
"They're going to fight them alone?"
"I believe that the Railgun can stand on equal footing with Stiyl." She paused. "I believe that Accelerator can at least match the power of Vento of the Front."
"Backup doesn't hurt, so tell me where they are."
"No."
"No? What the hell, Yumi!?"
"I have something else I need you to do."
"What is it?"
"We've identified another intruder. We need you to handle this immediately. It is top priority at the moment."
"Who is it?"
"…" Yumi was silent for a moment, considering withdrawing her statement.
"Yumi?"
"Fenrir." She said.
"Fenrir?"
"Yes."
"Who is that?"
"It would be too much to explain right now. Let me just put it this way. He is acting independently of the churches. I don't know why he chose to attack at the same moment as the churches did. It might be to cover his presence."
"Why is he here?"
"We don't know."
"How powerful is he?"
"We believe he's powerful enough to crush anybody who gets in his way."
"You're just going to send us after him after telling me that?"
"I believe that you, because you are a level 5 and because of your ability, might be able to defeat him. At the least, you should be able to come to a stalemate with him until help arrives."
"Help?" He asked.
"Assuming that Accelerator or Mikoto defeats their enemy, then I will send them over to help you. However, for the time being, you will have to work alone.
"I'm not alone."
"That's right…" She said. "You have the Meltdowner with you correct?"
"Yes. I also have Kinuhata Saiai with me."
"You brought her along?"
"Don't worry about it."
"…" She seemed hesitant again. After all, Saiai has been a member of SHIFT. "Fine. I'll send you the location. Get there quickly. He's on the move, but he's not going quickly."
"Right. Thanks."
He hung up and shoved the cellphone in his pocket.
"What's up? Who are we after?" Shizuri asked.
"Fenrir." The boy replied.
"Fenrir? That sounds familiar."
"Are you familiar with Norse mythology?"
"No…"
"Fenrir is said to be a monstrous wolf." He started. "He is the oldest child of Loki. The gods discovered a prophecy that said that the wolf, along with his family, would be responsible for the end of the world. At first they thought he was harmless, but when he started to grow, they decided to lock him up. In an attempt to trick him, they told him they would test his strength against chains and he agreed. He broke through all of them with no effort."
He turned right and increased his speed slightly above to speed limit.
"The gods had the dwarves make a magic chain. They received a soft, thin ribbon: Gleipnir."
"I bet they were super disappointed…" Saiai said.
"Despite what the ribbon looked like, it was amazingly strong. The gods decided that they would try to trick him again. Upon seeing the weak-looking ribbon, he refused as he believed that breaking through it would prove nothing. After a while, he agreed to it. However, he wasn't stupid. He would only do it if one of the gods would put one of their hands between his jaws. The god of war, Tyr, agreed to do it and they chained the wolf."
"I though he wasn't stupid…" Shizuri said. "That's obviously a trick." She felt like saying something about their steadily increasing speed, but decided not to.
"He wasn't. He kept struggling as hard as he could, but soon realized that he couldn't break through it, so he bit off Tyr's hand. Of course, that didn't do much for him. it was just some revenge. The gods carried him to a rock called Gioll which was a mile in the earth. They stabbed a sword through his jaw to prevent him from closing his mouth."
"Is that the end?" Shizuri asked.
"Pretty much. It's said that on the day of Ragnarok, Fenrir will break through his chains and join the giants in their battle against the gods. He will find Odin and devour him. Vidar, Odin's son, will avenge his father by killing the wolf."
"So… We're up against a huge wolf?" Saiai asked.
"No. He's not the Fenrir of Norse mythology. He's just someone who's taken that name."
"What does he look like?"
"I'm guessing like an ordinary person…" As if she had read his mind, the boy received a text message from Yumi.
It read: Fenrir is an ordinary looking young man. He should be the only one in the area, so he should be easy to spot.
Shizuri was looking at the phone.
"That's almost creepy that she decided to send that now."
"Well, it works to our advantage." Teitoku expertly weaved past cars and took a hard left, throwing around the two girls.
"H-Hey, shouldn't you be more super careful!?" Saiai asked as they took a hard left, throwing them the opposite way.
"We don't have any time to waste." The boy said. As he followed a route he determined to be the most efficient to get to the location, they were noticing less and less people. Everybody they saw seemed to be walking in the opposite direction as well. "I'm guessing we're almost there."
As if in response to his question, something pierced their front right tire and the car turned scraping on the ground.
"What the…!?" Shizuri yelled.
"Fuck!" Teitoku yelled. He turned the wheel and slammed on the break. The car turned sideways and skidded along for a bit until it came to stop. "Are you two okay?"
"Yeah…" They both said. The girls were fine, but they felt almost like their meals would come back up.
They got out of the car and looked around.
"Well now, the welcoming party is here."
They turned towards the voice.
A boy with long dark hair and dark eyes stood in the middle of the street. A gun was in his right hand. He discarded it to the side.
"You…" Teitoku said.
"Nice to meet you, Dark Matter. I'm Fenrir." The boy replied calmly. He smiled and his teeth looked sharper then they should be.
"Well, you don't look like some monstrous wolf." Shizuri said with a smile.
"Mocking the origin of my name? That's not nice."
Teitoku stepped forward.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
"What do you mean?"
"You're not working with the churches. So, you must have your own reason for coming to Academy City."
Fenrir smiled.
"That's right. However… Why would I reveal that reason to you?"
"We're going to stop you anyways." Teitoku replied. "So, you lose nothing from telling us."
The boy laughed.
"That's good. I like that attitude. It'll make it so much more fun to crush you."
"That's pretty cocky." He replied.
Shizuri stepped forward.
"Let's see just how powerful he is."
A green ball of energy formed by her head and shot a beam at the boy.
He smiled.
Black cracks appears in the air. They looked like they were destroying space itself. The beam shot straight into one and disappeared. The cracks closed.
"Is that all you have? That was pitiful."
"What the…?" Shizuri said, confused.
"Magic…" Teitoku said slowly.
"Well… If ranged attacks are no good…" Saiai dashed forward.
"Saiai!" Teitoku yelled, but she didn't stop.
She ran up to the boy and threw a punch at his face.
Fenrir smacked her hand to the side with no effort.
"Did you really think something so simple… Would hit me?" He kneed her in the chest with enough force to break a few ribs, sending her flying back at the two.
Teitoku caught her and laid her down.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm… super… fine…" She said through labored breaths.
"Stay here." Teitoku glared at the boy. "I don't forgive people who hurt my friends."
"Oh?" Fenrir laughed. "Why the hell should I care? If you think you can crush me like all the weaklings in the city, you have another thing coming."
"Try me." He replied coldly.
"I'm going to make you regret ever messing with the Magic Side." Black cracks formed all around the boy.
Stiyl Magnus turned the corner to see a group of espers waiting for him.
"This is Judgment!" One of them yelled. "Surrender now!"
The red-haired magician sighed.
He waved his hand and flames formed from thin air. With a sweeping motion, he blew all of the espers away, charring their clothes and leaving slight burns on them.
"Too bad I'm not allowed to kill innocents…" He said.
"You won't be killing anybody."
"Huh?" He turned around. Behind him was Mikoto. "I'd rather not hurt such a cute girl. Why don't you run along?"
Electricity crackled around her head.
"You have no idea who you're talking to…"
"I think I do… Misaka Mikoto…"
"Eh?"
"Surprised? I've been informed of all of the level 5's as well as your powers." He held his hand out in front of him and flames swirled around the centre of his palm. "They're no match for mine."
Mikoto looked around.
Buildings surrounded them. Fighting could lead to mass destruction and innocent deaths.
"How about we…?" Just as she was about to suggest that they move to fight somewhere else, he made his move.
Stiyl swung his hand in an arc, sending a wave of flame at her.
"I wouldn't get too distracted if I were you."
Electricity sparked from the girl's head and spread out before her. It hit the flames. The result was an explosion between the two.
Mikoto shielded her eyes. When she took her arm away, Stiyl was charging her, only a few feet away. That, however, wasn't what surprised her most. It was the ten foot sword of flame in his hand.
"Wha-!?" She dodged backwards, just out of range of the sword. The tip touched her sweater and burned a clean line through it, charring the shirt underneath.
"Come on!" He yelled. "Why don't you show me the power of a level 5 that this city covets so much!?" He stabbed at her and she dodged to the left. She turned to see a ball of fire heading straight for her.
She shot electricity at it and the explosion threw her backwards into a building. She hit it hard and fell to the ground, coughing.
"D-Damn it…"
Stiyl walked up to her and held a smaller version of the sword by her neck.
"You died an honourable death, Misaka." He smiled. "Sorry about this." He pulled back the sword and swung it.
Accelerator stood face-to-face with Vento of the Front, a member of God's Right Seat.
"I didn't expect to encounter one of you this fast." Vento said.
"What? You think we would just stand by idly while you destroy our home?" He smiled. "Sorry, but that's not how it works."
"That so?" She laughed. "I guess I'll just have to beat you down then."
"Vento of the Front…" The boy said slowly. The girl seemed surprised to hear her name. "A member of God's Right Seat… You know, I bet it'll really break the Magic Side's morale if I beat you down instead."
"Hm…" She smiled. "I didn't know the Science Side was so well-informed."
She held up something that looked like an oddly shaped claymore wrapped in bandages.
"Oh? A weapon? I'll crush it for you."
Vento opened her mouth and let a cross fall out. It was connected to her tongue by a chain.
She swung her claymore-like hammer and hit the cross.
A ball of bluish energy appeared from thin air, flying straight at the boy. Thinking his reflection would take care of it, the boy didn't move. The ball his hit in the side and sent him flying.
"Agh!" He grunted in pain and hit the ground. It felt like a couple of his ribs had been cracked. "Reflection… didn't work?" He slowly stood up.
"That's right." Vento said. He looked at her. "I heard all about your ability. Reflection won't work on my magic. It's the same principle that prevents you from reflecting number two's Dark Matter."
She swung the hammer again, hitting the cross.
Another ball of energy formed a few feet behind Accelerator and hit him in the back. This time he managed to hold his ground.
"Fuck!" He coughed up some blood onto the ground.
"Is it true that if you're in pain, you can't use your ability?" Vento walked up to him with a cruel smile.
"You really did your studying…" The boy said, clutching his side.
"I did. Now then…" Instead of using the hammer to hit the cross, he swung it straight at him.
The hammer came within a few centimetres of the boy's head, then stopped and was reflected back. Vento was thrown off balance and Accelerator took the opportunity.
He pushed forward and flicked Vento's stomach. An enormous amount of force hit the girl and she flew away, her body bending awkwardly in certain places. She smashed through the wall of an empty bank and hit the other wall.
The boy stood up and slowly made his way to the hole in the building.
Vento was just standing. Her body was bleeding in several places and her left arm was hanging at her side as if it hurt her to move it. She had somehow retained her grasp on her hammer.
"It's true that if we're in enough pain we can't do the calculations necessary to use our abilities. You didn't think about one thing though…" She looked at the boy. Blood was dripping from her mouth. "I can withstand much more pain than the ordinary esper. I'm not a level 5 for nothing."
She lifted up her arm and wiped the blood away from her mouth, cringing in pain as she did so.
"You're going to be a more formidable opponent than I thought." She raised the hammer and hit the cross, then swung it back and hit it a second time.
The first ball of energy formed in front the boy and he dodged to the side. Second one came from above and he managed to throw his body to the side. The ball cracked the ground as it hit it.
"If that's all you can do, I feel sorry for you." Accelerator said.
"Fine… Taste Divine Punishment." She said.
Gunha opened his eyes.
"What the…?" He awoke quickly and sat up. He was laying on the floor of the lab. His head was throbbing. "Fuck… What happened?"
He looked around. The door to the cell that had held Orsola Aquinas was laying to the side of the cell. The cell was empty.
"Dammit!" He remembered what had happened. Touma had brutally beat the boy down in less than twenty seconds.
The boy's phone rang. He took it out of his pocket and answered.
"Hello?"
"Nice to see that you're awake, Gunha."
"Archbishop…" He said.
"I thought I warned you about confronting Kamijou Touma."
"What was I supposed to do!? I was just following your orders!"
"Indeed… I did not account for Kamijou making his way back to Academy City so quickly. So, because this was partially due to an error on my part, you will not be punished. What about Orsola?"
"Orsola Aquinas is gone. It seems that Kamijou took her with him."
"I see… That's unfortunate news…" She sighed. "Well… Your friends are off fighting right now. You should get out of there."
"Fighting?"
"Yes. Misaka Mikoto has confronted Stiyl Magnus. Kakine Teitoku and Mugino Shizuri have confronted somebody working independently from us… We are not quite sure of that situation yet. Accelerator has confronted Vento of the Front."
"Dammit…" He mumbled. "Well then… What are your orders?"
"I want you to contact Acqua of the Back directly. I, at the moment, have no means of contacting Fiamma directly and I do not currently know the location of Acqua. Please tell him to make preparations for the attack failing. Also…" She paused. "Tell him to take a look at this mystery person attacking."
She hung up.
"Right…" Gunha looked around. "I should get out of here…" He turned and walked towards the exit.
Touma took out his cellphone and called somebody.
The line rang once before it was answered.
"Hello?"
"Aleister." The boy said. "I've secured Orsola Aquinas and transferred her."
"Well done." He replied. "I'm glad you decided to help."
"I have my reasons. Now then, is that all? There's something I'd like to do."
"Yes. You may do as you please."
"I always can." Touma hung up. He looked around. He was in the middle of an empty intersection. "I guess I'll get going then… I've got a lot of work to do…"
Mikoto closed her eyes, knowing she didn't have time to do the calculations for something powerful enough to stop the attack, nor did she have the time to deploy the attack. However, the attack never came.
She opened her eyes to see the sword of flame had disappeared. Stiyl had jumped back a few feet and was breathing heavily. She took a breath and felt fine. She stood.
"What the fuck…?" Stiyl asked, catching his breath.
"I didn't like the way the situation was going." A voice said from behind Stiyl.
Both Mikoto and Stiyl looked.
A girl with brown hair and brown eyes stood there, a calm smile on her face.
Mikoto's eyes widened.
It was Yanagisako Aomi.
"You…" Mikoto said.
"It's nice to see you again, Misaka Mikoto." She smiled. Then she looked at Stiyl. "Stiyl Magnus. You pose a danger to Academy City and its residents. I'm here to stop you."
"Damn espers…" Stiyl mumbled.
"We're not that bad. My ability isn't even combat-suited essentially. I just took away all the oxygen within a few millimetres of your body. Your concentration was interrupted, so your magical flames were dispersed. It's simple science."
"You bitch…" He sighed. "Well, you're the Particle Disruptor. We were given a special warning about you. I hear you were specially being trained for this."
"That's right. Don't think I spent all that time touching myself. I've gained a lot of power. Of course… you wouldn't have been a match for me before, either."
"We'll see about that…" Stiyl formed the ten foot version of his sword of flames again. "I'll destroy you."
This was a fun chapter to write! I hope you all enjoyed it! If you have any suggestions, feel free to post a review or pm me! I might just implement it!
Anyways, on to the changes. First of all, Vento was not supposed to fight Accelerator. Vento was supposed to fight Teitoku and his group and Accelerator was supposed to fight Fenrir. However, I liked the fact that Accelerator wouldn't be able to reflect Vento's magic, so I changed it.
Fenrir was not supposed to make an appearance at all. I thought about it though and decided to use him. For those who don't know, in the actual story Fenrir is a true member of GREMLIN.
Besides those two major things, there was like a thousand other smaller changes that I made.
Again, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! Be seeing you!
