A/N: Omg, look, it's an interlude. O: Yeah, I couldn't figure out where to put this in a chapter, so it gets to be an interlude. Proper A/N will come with the chapter proper, which I'll upload right after this one. Here's where Knight25's idea comes into play. Incidentally, I still think it's a wonderful idea. :D

Warning: Spoilers abound.

Disclaimer: The fun about this sentence is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything until you've finished reading it. Also, I don't own Dragonball Z or Harry Potter. I write for fun, not profit. So don't sue me, kthxbai.

"This" - is dialogue.

'This' - is thought.

This - is emphasis, in place of CAPSLOCK.

MagicKi: An HPDBZ Story

Interlude: Taking An Interest

Far above Snake Way was King Kai's planet. And as far as Goku and Harry Potter needed to be concerned at present, there was nothing beyond King Kai's planet.

However, King Kai was in actuality the North Kai, charged with governing the northern quadrant of the galaxy. Guarding the other quadrants were a South Kai, an East Kai, and a West Kai. The four lower Kais were in turn presided over by a Grand Kai, of which there were anywhere from three to several in any given section of the universe. Each section of the universe could then be grouped into clusters of galaxies, which were watched over by a Supreme Kai. No one knew just how many Supreme Kais there were in the universe, but there was one step known that went beyond the authority of even a Supreme Kai: that of the Grand Supreme Kai.

Despite the inherent sense of awe and respect that the position of Grand Supreme Kai seemed to command, it wasn't the Grand Supreme Kai's planet that was the nexus of most of the Kais' activity.

No, that responsibility was taken up by a certain Supreme Kai, who watched over a certain Grand Kai, who watched over a certain four Kais, one of whom was known among other Kais in that galaxy as North Kai, or King Kai.

This same King Kai was currently waving his glowing hands over the body of an unconscious young man, muttering to himself in a low voice. It was this action that the Supreme Kai sat watching in his crystal ball intently, evidently thinking hard.

The Supreme Kai was deceiving in size and appearance. He didn't actually stand any taller than approximately four feet and five inches, though, as any wise person could contest, size was no guarantee of power. His skin was a light purple color, and his hair, which grew out of the top of his head as a mohawk, was pure white.

"Supreme Kai?" a voice said, and the Supreme Kai turned around to his companion, a relative of the Kais named Kibito. Kibito was much taller than the Supreme Kai, and his skin was a vibrant red, though his hair, like the Supreme Kai's, was white. However, Kibito's hair was long and hung down around both sides of his face. Both the Supreme Kai and Kibito were possessed of the pointed ears characteristic to all members of or relatives to the race of Kais, though they weren't necessarily in proportion to the heads they adorned.

"Yes, Kibito?"

"Supreme Kai, you can't honestly tell me that you're thinking of interfering in these people's lives with no good reason?"

"Kais rarely have a good reason for interfering in anything, Kibito. You know that as well as I do. However, what apparently has escaped your notice is the fact that the young man that North Kai is fussing over holds a major key to fighting the evil that constantly threatens this galaxy. That is why I…inserted the idea that I did into his head."

"Supreme Kai…What 'idea' are you talking about?"

"It's nothing, really…I just stuck a few lines of verse into his head while he was unconscious."

"Shin!" Supreme Kai frowned; Kibito only called him "Shin" when he was truly angered. "You are breaking rules established hundreds of years ago! We are not to interfere with the lives of lower beings unless absolutely dictated by necessity!"

"You don't need to quote the Ordinances to me, Kibito," Supreme Kai said in a dangerous voice. "I was there at the time of their creation."

"Then you know better than most why the Ordinances must be adhered to!" Kibito continued. Ignoring Supreme Kai's exasperated sigh, Kibito said, "The last time we of the Higher Order interfered on a whim, nearly half of the universe was destroyed before we could rectify our mistake!"

"Kibito," Supreme Kai said shortly. Yet, those three syllables carried such weight and commanding authority that Kibito shut his mouth immediately, and, had his skin been any other color but red, anyone would have been able to see the blush that had flamed in his face. "You forget that I am one of the Shinto-sama. The Higher Order would not have existed in the first place without my involvement, and neither would the Ordinances. So I would thank you not to lecture me over something when you do not know the entire story."

Kibito was quiet for a long time, then he nodded and said, "I apologize, Supreme Kai. Please forgive my presumptuousness."

Supreme Kai's serious expression vanished, and was replaced with a smile. "Now now, Kibito. Everyone forgets sooner or later, except for those directly involved. You weren't made my associate until long after the Ordinances were made and the Higher Order was disintegrated as an immediate effect. It's honestly a mystery why the Ordinances still exist, as they contradict themselves into non-effect and then back into effect various times. The Higher Order was still in chaos after what happened." Supreme Kai adopted a grave silence as he remembered the catastrophe that had sparked the creation of the Ordinances, the disintegration of the Higher Order, and the implementation of the hierarchy that currently existed.(1)

Soon enough, Supreme Kai's expression cleared, and he said, "Kibito, Harry Potter holds an integral key to holding the forces of evil forever at bay. He did even in his own universe, though he no longer realizes it. He has unbelievable potential. All that needs to be done to unlock it is give him the source of his confidence back.

"Harry Potter had two people he considered very close to him after his third year in that school he attended. Of the two people in question, one had been previously believed to have murdered another magical person and twelve innocent bystanders, laughing maniacally as he was carted off to that universe's equivalent of this galaxy's HFIL, and the other was discovered to be a werewolf, and was promptly discharged due to paranoia and bigotry. What happened to the first person was not actually the case, as Harry Potter found out. He became far closer to these men who were the only remaining links to his long-dead parents.

"These men were named Sirius Orion Black and Remus John Lupin. Sirius died when Harry was 15." Here, Supreme Kai's voice became almost unbearably sad, as though he himself had lost someone he'd held so near and dear to him. "With the death of Sirius Black, Harry quickly declined into an even deeper depression, helped along by one Neville Longbottom, who has terrorized Harry since the day they met when they were both 11.

"Remus Lupin died when Harry was 17, and with his death, Harry lost all connection to his parents' memory forever. Were it not for his three friends Hermione Jean Granger, Ronald Bilius Weasley, and Draconis Lucius Malfoy, Harry likely would have committed suicide long before he'd ever gotten here.

"So you see, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin were Harry's links to his past, and he drew comfort from knowing that they were there. Once they were gone…" Supreme Kai did not have to finish that sentence, and so he moved on. "So, Kibito, what I'm doing is re-implementing a sense of hope in Harry. However, the promise I made to him is one I shall carry out. Come; we have a trip to an interdimensional broker of death to talk to."

A/N II: Interested?

(1) - Everything mentioned here will more than likely be explained in greater detail once we get farther along. Who the Shinto-sama are, all about the Higher Order and the Ordinances, and the catastrophe that led to the creation thereof.
