Oh, man! I had so much fun writing this one that I think it kind of gotten away from me a bit. I just kept going and going.
Before we start I just want to say, this chapter is a bit of a risky one. The judges on if I pulled this off well or not, are you guys. So this time, more than ever, reviews REALLY mean a lot to me. Don't feel bad if you don't like it, just let me know.
With that said, I hope you will enjoy!
While Big hero 6 were satisfied with their victory over Yama, Sonic wasn't ready to celebrate just yet. If this guy was piloting an Egg-Mobile and, by the looks of some of the destroyed robots, used Badniks in order to cause trouble, then he was most likely working with Eggman, meaning he can tell them where he is.
"Care to tell us where Eggman is hiding?" The hedgehog asked Yama. "Or do you want some more beat down?"
"I will never tell you anything!" The large man yelled while trying to break free from Hiro's Micro-Bots.
Knuckles punched his fist against his palm, as if he was ready to punch the enemy with all of his strength. "I won't be so sure about that once I'm done with you."
Yama seemed to be a bit intimidated by the echidna, but it wasn't enough to break him. "You will have to kill me before I talk!"
"That can be arranged… Right, Wasabi?" Go-Go winked at her dark-skinned teammate, signaling him to turn on only one of his blades in order to scare Yama into talking.
The trick sure worked, much to Wasabi's relief because he wasn't interested in killing anyone, as Yama panicked more and more. "Okay! Okay! He is hiding in a quarantine zone! He has stolen your Chaos Emeralds while we were fighting! That's all I know! Please, don't kill me!"
If it wasn't for the fact Eggman now possessed all seven emeralds, Hiro would have made a comment on how un-characteristic this behavior was for Yama.
"That Egg-Head!" Sonic snapped for a second. "If we want to save this city; we have to find him and fast!"
Hiro nodded and turned to his robotic friend. "Baymax, can you track down where Eggman is?"
Baymax scanned the entire city using his advanced scanner before sharing the results. "I have found a match on the same island where we fought Callaghan."
"What is he doing there?" Honey wondered out loud.
"Is there any kind of technology on that island?" Tails asked the group, as they seemed to be familiar with the place Eggman was using as a base.
"It held some science experiments in the past…" Hiro answered the question. "Mostly travelling through time and space from what we know."
Sonic and Tails's eyes went wide as they realized what Eggman was probably planning to do with this kind of experiment. "We have to get there. Now!" Sonic said.
After dropping Yama back at the San-Fransokyo jail, the group was making its way to the mentioned island. Baymax was giving the rest of Big Hero 6 a lift, while Tails carried Knuckles all the way over the water. Sonic, on the other hand, wasn't flying in any way because his incredible speed allowed him to run on the water which filled the gap between the city and the island; much to the impressiveness of Big Hero 6.
"He can also run on water?" Go-Go asked in shock as she watched Sonic running underneath them, every step he made caused a splash to occur.
"Just one of his many talents." Tails commented as the flight continued.
Sonic kept running on the water until he saw the island was just one jump over an electric net away. The hedgehog leaped into the air and landed on the other side of the fence, taking the time until his friends arrive to examine the place. "This does look like a place Eggman will fell at home in." He said to himself, espacially after seeing the building which was assumably Eggman's new base.
Shortly after, the rest of the party landed behind him. "I don't know about you guys, but I didn't miss this place at all." Wasabi commented as memories of the last time he was there with the team weren't what he would call happy memories.
"It will be okay, Wasabi." Hiro reassured. "This won't end like next time."
"So, you guys have been to this place…" Knuckles spoke to the Super-Heroes. "What can we expect there?"
"Bunch of old computers and a wrecked portal." Honey told him.
"Well, that's just leaves Egg-face's robots." Sonic assumed before he turned to Hiro. "Do you mind if I'll plan this attack, leader?"
"Go on ahead. You obviously know this guy better than I do." The teen replied and the hedgehog started to plan the attack.
"Okay, here's what we are going to do. Tails, Knuckles, Go-Go and I will run inside that building and based on the situation, we will either get the emeralds back in no-time or we will have to fight for them. If fighting is required, Go-Go will contact you."
"Or you can just yell for help and Baymax will be on his way to you with us. Right, buddy?" Hiro asked his robotic friend.
"I am programmed to help anyone in the time of need." He declared. "In case you will need help, I will be there to help you."
Sonic smiled and nodded at Baymax. "All right! Let's head in there!"
But just as Sonic said that, something flew up into the sky right through the base's roof. It moved at an incredible speed and out of its legs came out a massive amount of smoke which seemed almost solid.
"What was that!?" Tails asked, taken by surprise just like everyone else.
"It appears to be a robot." Baymax informed the others after he scanned the form. "However, I am detecting a sign of human life flying beside it. The human DNA resembles the one belonging to Dr. Eggman."
"Which means…?" Hiro started to ask before the robot landed in front of the team.
The robot was the same size as Baymax, only this one's armor resembled Eggman's clothing; the upper part being red with a bit of while the lower part was black. The tiny head on top was also covered by a helmet which resembled Eggman's head.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't my arch enemy and his group of new friends?" Everyone got into fighting stances as Eggman lowered towards them in his Egg-Mobile, floating near this new robot. "Here for the Chaos Emeralds, I presume?"
Sonic rolled his eyes and shook his head. "Why bother with the rhetorical questions? Just send this thing to destroy us, we will destroy it instead, get the Chaos Emeralds back and this universe will be saved."
"Oh, but that will be predictable. Wouldn't it?" Eggman teased back. "How about I will send it to kill you, it will and then I will use it to conquer this universe and any other?"
"Sounds like an un-realistic fantasy." Sonic muttered, not impressed.
"Joke all you want, you blood –boiling hedgehog. But you are going to lose in this fight." Eggman stated as he turned in the direction of the base and started to fly away."
"Hey! Come back here!" Sonic started running in the direction of his old enemy. Little did the hedgehog know; the robot will start attacking him if he was only thinking about getting near the evil scientist. Without any command, the robot raised one of its hands and fired it as a projectile at Sonic. "Whoa!" The hedgehog shouted as he jumped over the hand just in time before it hit him.
When he landed in front of the robot, fire came out from the robot's head which prompted Sonic to dash away from it, back to where his friends stood.
"Egg-Max, destroy them!" Eggman ordered the robot from before he went back to his base, and the robot nodded.
"Did it just breathe fire?" Fred asked.
"It looks like it…" Honey answered.
"He also had the same rocket fist as Baymax." Hiro pointed out.
"Any plans, Sonic?" Go-Go asked, ready to take any kind of action.
Sonic thought for a second before improvising something. "Let's all charge at it together, that way we could learn what works best on it."
"You heard him." Hiro announced. "Let's go!"
Sonic and Go-Go, being the fastest of the group, were the first to reach Egg-Max's area of attack. The robot attempted to smash both of them with its hands, but they were quick to dodge it.
Go-Go reacted quickly and threw one of her discs at Egg-Max's head, connecting a hit and causing it to not noticed Sonic who rolled at it with all of his speed. At first, it seemed like they managed to stun the threat, but it soon recovered and started spinning around with a blue aura around it, just like Sonic, and hit both of the speed demons.
Fred quickly rushed to their aid, jumping over the robot, landing behind its back and letting loose a large amount of fire at it. When Egg-Max attempted to attack him with a round punch, Fred jumped over it again. But this time, the robot got what the guy in the monster suit was planning and he quickly countered the attack before it was even initiated, sending Fred away from him.
"Hey!" Knuckles called to the robot's attention. "Let's see how well you do with some raw power." The echidna punched his knuckles against each other before charging at Egg-Max. Knuckles was strong, there was no denying that, but his strength meant nothing if Egg-Max just kept blocking every single punch and kick meant to hit him. Knuckles just had had enough with this robot, and was about to deliver his strongest punch to the robot's head; only for it to grab the active punch and countering with a strong punch of its own.
Wasabi used his chance to come in and slice one of Egg-Max's parts using his laser blades. But just as he was about to cut through one of its arms, the robot countered with a laser blade of its own and blocked the attack, sending Wasabi backwards.
"You have one of those too?" He asked the robot, even though he knew he wasn't going to get any answer. "Well, let's do this then!" Wasabi called as he swung again, each swing was countered by Egg-Max's own laser blades. Eventually, both ended with their blades being clashed against each other's. Both Wasabi and Egg-Max tried to throw each other off, and eventually, it was the robot which got the upper hand and send the Super-Hero back.
Suddenly, a wave of frozen chemicals warped around Egg-Max's legs, trapping him in place. "Are you ready, Tails?" Honey asked, with a few explosive balls ready in her hand just in case.
"You bet!" Tails said as he spun his Tails in a round motion to cut at Egg-Max's legs, causing the robot to lose a bit of balance. Honey then charged with a few more balls, causing explosions to go off just steps away from Egg-Max's location.
"Baymax, rocket fist!" Hiro ordered his own robot, which complied and shot it directly at Egg-Max's head while its body was hit a few Micro-Bots. Flung into the air by Hiro's attack, Fred breathed fire at the robot's back, warming up the area for Knuckles to deliver an extremely painful upper-cut which seemed to crack a bit of the armor.
Sonic and Go-Go nodded at each other as they revved up into ball forms and lunched themselves to where the armor was broken, causing more damage to it.
The team re-grouped in front of the robot, now thinking that they had the upper-hand on it. Once Egg-Max got up, it faced its enemies who now seemed like more of a threat to it, and to Eggman whom it needs to protect. The front of its armor was still intact, meaning it was still able to fight.
The heroes waited for Egg-Max's next move, and were quite surprised when a pair of wings appeared behind its shoulders and carried it up into the sky. "Of course it can also fly." Go-Go commented, the sight not cheering her up.
"It's like Eggman has recorded all of our moves," Tails theorized. "I mean, it can move at the same speed as Sonic and Go-Go, it breathes fire like Fred, uses Wasabi's laser blades and he seems to have all of Baymax's moves."
"Well, let's see how long the copy can last against the originals." Sonic said as he opened his arm in order for Tails to catch. "Care to give me a lift to him, buddy?"
"Did you forget you have a flying robot on your side?" Hiro asked as Baymax's wings opened.
"Well, that's one way to get up." Sonic replied as he climbed on Baymax's back, behind Hiro.
"If we will need help, we'll let you know." Hiro told the rest of the team before ordering Baymax to take flight and chase after Egg-Max.
It didn't take too long for the trio to find Eggman's newest toy as they got closer to him. "Baymax, can you lock on to him?" Hiro asked once the robot was in eye-sight.
"I am able to lock on to the threat." The robot informed as he fired his rocket fist at the opposing robot, hitting its leg and causing it to slightly lose balance; it regained it shortly after though.
Once the fist has returned to Baymax, Sonic was positioning himself on top of the robot's back in order to prepare for his own attack. "Get behind it." The hedgehog called.
"You heard him, Baymax." Hiro said and the robot blasted off in Egg-Max's direction. Eggman's bodyguard however, wasn't going to let them complete their plan that easily as he fired his own rocket fist at them, along with discs resembling Go-Go's and bombs just like Honey's.
Baymax avoided all the attacks with various aerial maneuvers and tricks. Hiro was used to this type of flying, not to mention his suit being attached to the armor, thus preventing him from falling. Sonic, however, found it a bit more challenging to hang on.
"Are you okay there?" Hiro asked during all the twists and turns.
"Sure! This is actually kind of fun!" The hedgehog replied as he soon positioned himself in a way which was comfortable for him. "Woo-Ho!" He yelled with glee through all the tricks Baymax had pulled off while dodging the attacks.
Once Baymax has made it to where Sonic wanted, the blue hedgehog faced Egg-Max. "Time to rip-on this rip-off." He said before he charged up his Spin-Dash and blasted off right into the robot's back, breaking its armor even more. Under the armor, Sonic noticed, was white vinyl which he assumed was quit springy. The hedgehog used this to kick that part of Egg-Max and bounce off of it. Once the enemy robot was done spinning from the kick, it noticed Hiro and Baymax flying towards its direction in order to catch Sonic.
Egg-Max locked unto Hiro, realizing he was Baymax's top priority and that the robot will do everything in its power to protect that boy, Egg-Max fired his rocket fist at Hiro. A hit was connected and the young teen fell off from Baymax's back, eyes closed from the powerful attack.
"Hiro." Baymax said as he noticed his patient falling towards the ground, before he quickly blasted off in order to save him. Half way towards Hiro, Sonic landed on his back and noticed Egg-Max had just caught up to them. It looked like he was trying to get Hiro as well, but not for the same reasons they were trying.
"Baymax, you take care of that robot. I'll get Hiro." Sonic told Baymax before he jumped from the good robot's back in order to get a few meters ahead, thus catching up with Hiro faster.
Once he knew Hiro was in safe hands, Baymax turned to block Egg-Max with a punch to its head. The two robots then embarked in a martial-arts fight as they punched and kicked each other endlessly.
Meanwhile, Sonic was fast falling towards Hiro, trying to grab him with his hand. Sonic tried his best to make himself fall faster until he eventually managed to grab Hiro's hand. Once he did, Sonic spun around and threw the unconscious Hiro back up with all of his strength. "Heads up, Baymax! Hiro is coming your way!" Sonic called to the robot.
Baymax was sending punches and kicks in the direction of Egg-Max, which was doing the exact same thing. Eventually, both robots were grabbing each other's shoulders, trying to cause damage to their rival with all of their strength.
When Baymax heard Sonic's call to him and noticed Hiro flying by them, the robot found incredible power within him as he broke loose out of Egg-Max's grab, punched its head and blasted off to catch Hiro. Egg-Max was then greeted by a homing attack from Sonic, who kept it busy while Baymax got Hiro.
Once Baymax grabbed Hiro, the boy started to wake up in the robot's protective arms. "Baymax?" Hiro asked as he slowly regained conscious.
"Hello, Hiro." Baymax said. "You have been hurt quite badly by Egg-Max's attack. On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?"
Hiro rubbed his head for a bit at the mention of the attack. "I think two…" He said while noticing Sonic falling down after a missed attack on Egg-Max. "But worry about it later; I have a plan on how to beat it." Hiro positioned himself on Baymax's back, and the robot blasted off in the direction of the threat. Once they were close enough, Hiro instructed Baymax on what to do. "You go ahead and grab Sonic. Once he is safe, pick me up."
With those words, Hiro jumped off of Baymax's back and fired a big amount of Micro-Bots at Egg-Max, trapping the evil robot in a massive amount of the small robots, fighting to keep it trapped in them.
Baymax, now with Sonic on his back, grabbed Hiro as planned. The boy still had the Micro-Bots in his control and as soon as he landed on Baymax's back, he flung the tiny robots into the air before whipping them into the ground below. Egg-Max was slammed into the island ground with a big explosion which sent all the Micro-robots trapping it all over the place, as well as its armor pieces.
The team on the ground shielded their eyes from the explosion; once they saw all the armor pieces lying around the area, they understood that they have won. Baymax has landed near them a minute later and both Hiro and Sonic dismounted.
The happiness however, was short lived as in Egg-Max's landing spot something moved. Everyone resumed their fighting stances, ready for whatever came out of those ruins.
Or were they ready…?
A white robot which was made of vinyl rose from the ruins. It looked relatively harmless, infect without its armor it looked pretty huggable. Like Baymax without his armor…
But Hiro would recognize that robot everywhere. It didn't just look like Baymax, but it was Baymax. The original Baymax built by Hiro's older brother, Tadashi. "It's… it can't be…" The young leader said once he saw the robot in front of him.
The rest of the Big Hero 6 members were also shocked to see the old Baymax back after what has happened to it. So much so that they have forgotten that it has tried to destroy them a moment ago.
"What's going on?" Knuckles asked. "Why aren't we destroying it now when it's powerless?"
Hiro slowly regained his senses and aimed his hand at the old Baymax, willing to blast it with his Micro-Bots. But how could he? How could he destroy the thing that helped him through his pain when Tadashi died? His best friend?
Sonic, Tails and Knuckles had no idea why this was taking so long. The robot did look a lot like Baymax, but it wasn't him. He was standing just by them and he was just helping them to defeat this imposter robot. Why was it so hard to finish this thing off?
Before any kind of answer could have been delivered, a smoke bomb distracted the heroes from their current situation. "Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho!" Eggman's laugh was still audible to them as the evil genius opened the old Baymax's chip drive. The current Baymax noticed what was going on, as the smoke didn't hurt his scanning, and attempted to shot his rocket fist at the old Baymax in order to stop Eggman from doing more evil.
Hiro's eye-sight started to clear just as Baymax was taking aim. When he saw what the robot was about to do, he jumped on the arm in an attempt to make the robot miss-fire. "No!" He shouted as he pushed the hand away from its target, causing Baymax to send the rocket fist in a different direction.
When the shot missed, Eggman inserted the chip in his hand into the old Baymax's chip slot. Once that was in, the armor slowly came back together, transforming the old Baymax back into Egg-Max. Sonic and his friends couldn't even comment on the events because of the move Hiro did.
This time however, the robot grew larger in size, almost covering half of the island with one foot. "A chip containing the power and abilities of the Chaos Emeralds!" Eggman declared once the robot has reached full size. "I'm such an evil genius that it hurts…" He said before calling for his side-kicks. "Orbot! Cubot! It's time to go!"
"But sir, we haven't got the chance to…" Orbot didn't get the chance to finish as Eggman grabbed both him and Cubot.
"Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not important…" He said before dragging them out in the Egg-Mobile into Egg-Max's head where he positioned his flying vehicle as a cockpit. "Now, it's time to take over the city! Chaos Control!" Eggman called before a white light teleported Egg-Max away from the island, leaving only Sonic, his friends and Big Hero 6 there
"What was that!?" Knuckles asked Hiro, annoyed. "Baymax had a clear shot at that robot. Why did you stop him from destroying it?"
"Because that robot IS Baymax!" Hiro replied in a similar tone.
"No offence, Hiro…" Sonic started. "But, even if he looks like Baymax without the armor, it still isn't Baymax. He is here with us."
"That's NOT the Baymax that Tadashi built!" Hiro broke into crying. The friend he thought he lost forever was back, it was possible to bring him back, and he replaced him with a replica.
"Tadashi?" Tails asked.
"Hiro's older brother." Honey explained. "He was the one who built the original Baymax, the one Eggman just teleported away with."
"It was that Baymax which was a part of our team when we formed Big Hero 6." Go-Go explained. "During our first big fight, trying to save the city from being sucked into a portal, we found out someone was stuck inside of it and Hiro and Baymax went to save her."
"When they returned… only Hiro returned." Wasabi said.
"So, if that Baymax is stuck in that portal, how did it…?"
Before Knuckles could have finished the question, Tails already started answering. "He probably used the Chaos Emeralds and what we know about universe traveling in order to activate the portal. Once he did, he probably ended up where the old Baymax was and upgraded it."
"Hiro." Baymax suddenly said through all the talking and approached the crying teen. "Tadashi is here." He said before ejecting the part of the armor covering his chip slots. On his chest, a video of a man testing Baymax, which the Big Hero 6 team recognized as Tadashi, showed up.
After the video with Tadashi ended, another one started playing, displaying the first time Hiro saw Baymax. Other videos showed Hiro talking with Baymax, the robot taking care of the boy and trying to comfort him after Tadashi's untimely death, Hiro teaching Baymax what a fist pump is, their first flight across the city and eventually, the moment Baymax convinced Hiro to deactivate him. "I'm satisfied with my care." Hiro said in the video, bringing it to an end and causing the real Hiro to shed even more tears. Finally, one last video was shown. This one showed Hiro in his casual red shirt, being amazed that the robot was working while Baymax made his regular activating speech before greeting him with a simple "Hello, Hiro" before the teen ran up and hugged Baymax.
Once the videos ended, Hiro realized something. "Of course… Oh, I can be such an idiot sometimes." He said while face-palming himself. "That Baymax… no… Egg-Max doesn't have Tadashi's chip." Hiro said while he put the armor peice back on Baymax, touching the chip slot's area once it was connected again. "The real Baymax is the one with Tadashi's chip."
Baymax proceeded to give Hiro a hug of comfort, joined by the rest of the Super-Hero team.
"Hey, uh… Not that it's not touching and everything, but we kind of need to stop Eggman." Sonic said awkwardly.
"Um… how?" Fred asked. "He used the emeralds to make that chip and the robot is now even more powerful."
Sonic smiled his trade-mark smirk. "If there is one thing I learned from fighting Eggman all these years, is that he always forgets something." He said before speeding off into the building which served as Eggman's base.
"Um, sorry about causing him to run away, guys." Hiro apologized for causing Baymax to miss his shot.
"It's understandable." Tails reassured him.
"If anything, I'm sorry for snapping at you. It wasn't my right." Knuckles admitted.
Hiro smiled and nodded at them, as if telling them he appreciated their concern.
Shortly after, Sonic came back with the Chaos Emeralds in his hands, though they seemed powerless. "I knew the old Egg-Head wasn't smart enough to destroy the emeralds once he was done with them." Everyone looked at him with shock as he held the emeralds in his hands and he nodded at them.
"Big Hero 6", Hiro started to say as he climbed on Baymax's back and faced the direction of San-Fransokyo. "We have an evil genius to stop!"
This scene was in my mind ever since I came up with this story idea. Like I said before, I never read any of the "Old Baymax comes back" fics. But from what I was told(Feel free to correct me if it's not true), none of them included a moment where Hiro can't hurt the new Baymax because of the connection he had with it. So, I decided to give this a shot and I hope it turned out well because I worked A LOT on that scene. My hair turned into Wasabi's hair from the bloopers section of the "Big Hero 6" Blue-Ray while figuring how to write this scene.
So with all that being said, we are getting closer to the end. Make sure to hold on because starting with the next part, it's final battle time!
