Mikau: Hi guys! This one has Yukiko in it, and I had entirely too much fun with her. I'll have to play around with her more often. Anyway, thanks so much for reviewing last time, guys: Bunnyz-chan, MeitanteiRose, Katherine Apollo Karma, and pokemon maniac! In other news, I'm thinking about adding a follow-up chapter to that one-shot I posted last week "Chained at the Ankle".

Disclaimer: If I owned it, I'd be caught up on the anime. -.-; As it stands, I'm on episode 681; so close, and yet so far away.

Kiss and Make Up

"That all depends on what you did wrong in the first place, Shin-chan," Yukiko giggled, twirling around the room and striking poses in front of the mirror with her brand new sundress.

"I don't know what I did wrong," the boy sighed. He'd been reduced to asking for dating advice…from his mother of all people. "For all I know, I missed some obscure anniversary like the third week since the first time we held hands or something!"

"You and Ran-chan are holding hands now?!" Yukiko squealed, dashing to Shinichi's side and gazing at him with incredibly large eyes. Shinichi knew that face. She wanted him to spill all of the sordid details so she could pinch his cheeks and whine about how her baby was growing up.

"N-No," Shinichi stuttered. How was he supposed to tell his mother that Ran was out of the picture and she most likely wouldn't be getting grandchildren? "It's…it's not Ran, Mom."

Yukiko smiled and blinked twice. "What was that? I don't think I heard you correctly. We must be going through a tunnel."

Shinichi looked away, squirming uncomfortably as he mumbled, "The person I'm dating isn't Ran."

Yukiko blinked again before her face turned into an angry pout. She straightened up, putting her hands on her hips. "Who is she? Where did you meet her? How long have you two been dating?"

Shinichi fidgeted again. "Uh…well…we met…at a Kid heist. I mean…we've been friends for a few years now…about three, and…I think I've had feelings for them for a while now, but we just started dating two months ago."

Yukiko was back to her big-eyed stare of intense interest. "Who confessed to whom?!"

"Er…I did. I…It was April Fool's day…the day that I consider to be the first day we actually met. I took them to the restaurant at Haido City Hotel, and after dessert I told them how I felt."

"AND?" Yukiko was on the edge of her seat.

Shinichi shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "They said that they already knew. They were just waiting for me to realize it myself." Shinichi blushed, remembering what had come next.

Yukiko did not fail to note the blush. "Did you kiss her?" she demanded.

Shinichi scratched at his cheek. "They kissed me…and then we went back to their house to—"

"—Just what kind of smoldering temptress has seduced my baby?!" Yukiko squawked, about ready to spit fire. "Just who the heck is she, Shin-chan? I'm going to march on over there and give her a piece of my mind! How dare she steal my Shin-chan's virginity?!"

"MOM!" Shinichi groaned, wishing to die of embarrassment right then and there just so that he didn't have to explain. "We just watched TV and ate junk food. That's it! We made death by chocolate!"

And fed it to each other…with strawberries…and a lot of making out in between, but his mother didn't need to know that part.

And now Shinichi was craving chocolate infused kisses. That he wasn't going to get because they were currently fighting. Great.

"A likely story." Yukiko rolled her eyes. "I've done the whole whipped cream and strawberries thing before, Shin-chan."

Shinichi winced at the mental picture. "Mom, I'm not sleeping with them yet! We've only been dating for two months!"

"I want her name. Now," Yukiko growled, undeterred in her quest to avenge her son's purity.

"Fine," Shinichi sighed. "Kuroba Kaito."

Yukiko blinked. "Come again?"

"Kuroba Kaito!" Shinichi shouted, facing going seven shades of scarlet. "His name is Kuroba Kaito, and I'm not sleeping with him," Shinichi's outburst turned into a mumble.

"Oh, Honey," Yukiko sighed, sitting down on her bed beside her son. "Well, at least you picked a good one. Is Kaito-kun still an adorable little brat?"

Now it was Shinichi's turn to blink in confusion. He looked up at his mother in puzzlement. "You know him?"

Yukiko nodded, throwing her arms around Shinichi and giving him a squeeze. "Yep. I studied the art of disguise under Kaito-kun's father, Touichi. Kaito-kun was always running around, hanging off of his father, or dashing in and out of his father's legs. It was a wonder that Touichi never tripped on him! …I didn't see much of Kaito-kun or his mother after Touichi's funeral. Of course I see the articles about Kaito-kun in the paper whenever there's a heist, but…"

"You know about—?!" Shinichi let out a strangled noise.

Yukiko giggled and nodded again. "Your father and Touichi were a lot like you and the current Kid. So…you and Kaito-kun, huh?"

"Y-Yeah." Shinichi squirmed some more as Yukiko released her loose hold.

"And you guys are having a fight?" Yukiko pursed her lips in thought.

Shinichi nodded. "We went on a date two days ago, and it was going really well, but then I dropped by the next morning to take him to breakfast, and he refused to speak to me, and he won't return my calls, and I don't know what I did wrong."

"What did you talk about during the date?" Yukiko dug, trying to find the solution.

"This and that." Shinichi shrugged. "Nothing really in particular that stands out, I mean. We talked about school, going to visit his dad's grave together on the twenty-first, uh…then I said I wanted to take him out to eat too since it's his birthday as well as the anniversary of his dad's death, and he said he'd be okay with it. Then we started talking about this new trick he's working on. After that, I had to go solve a murder in the girl's bathroom, but when I came back…he'd already had dessert, and he said he was tired, so I took him back home and told him I'd be by to pick him up for breakfast. That's it."

Yukiko face-palmed. She wanted to shake her child. "You left to solve a murder in the middle of dinner?"

"Yeah." Shinichi blinked cluelessly. "Why?"

Yukiko gave Shinichi an incredulous look. "Shin-chan, you don't just leave your date to solve murders. Your father did that to me once, and I almost turned down his proposal because of it. No wonder Kaito-kun's giving you the silent treatment! Go. Take the credit card and apologize profusely for your idiocy!"

Shinichi blinked. Running off to solve murders is what he did. That was like asking a dog not to chase Frisbees, a cat not to sleep more than twelve hours a day, or Kaito not to eat chocolate.

"B-But…the murderer might get away," he protested.

Yukiko fixed him with a piercing stare. "Who's more important to you: the murderer or Kaito-kun?"

"Kaito," Shinichi answered immediately.

"Then show him that by putting him first."

"Oh." Shinichi bit his lip as it all started to make sense. "Mom, I'm gonna need a cement truck full of chocolate. My boyfriend has an ego the size of Jupiter, and I think I just bruised it by being insensitive and putting crime solving before him."

Yukiko shrugged. "I did say 'take the credit card'."

"How are we going to explain this to Dad?" Shinichi bit his lip.

Yukiko waved away her son's concerns. "I'll take care of it. You go get your man back."

"Thanks, Mom. You rock." Shinichi leaned in and gave Yukiko a kiss on the cheek.

"I know," she sang, going back to parading around in her new dress.

Meanwhile, Shinichi headed out to raid the nearest chocolatier.

Kaito glared at him.

Frankly, Shinichi was surprised that the magician had even opened the door. "H-Hi," Shinichi started off lamely.

Kaito glared, raising an eyebrow as if he were looking at a very small, pesky creature that he wished to crush beneath his thumb.

"Yeah," Shinichi sighed. "You're right to be angry. I get it now. It kind of had to be explained to me, but…If you ran off while we were in the middle of a date, I'd be pretty pissed too, so…I'm really sorry, Kaito. It's instinct; somebody screams, and I take off running. But that's just an excuse, and I really am sorry, Kai. I won't do it again. I promise. When we're together, you'll be the center of my attention."

Kaito seemed to consider Shinichi's apology. It really did look like he was on the fence. Finally he sighed and shrugged. "I guess I forgive you, but I'm still mad, and if you do it again…"

"I brought chocolate," Shinichi resorted to bribery.

Kaito perked right up, throwing his arms around his boyfriend and nuzzling Shinichi. "Have I ever told you how much I love you, Shin-chan? What are you doing standing out on my porch in this heat? Come in! Before the chocolate melts!"

Shinichi had to laugh. Truly the way to Kaito's heart was through his stomach. He'd have to remember that whenever he ended up in the doghouse later on in their relationship. "I love you too, Kaito."
