A/N This story is taking a dramatic deeper turn. And FYI again I will say if there is something that is not exactly accurate you are just going to have to pretend it is. Not everything will be exactly as in the time period or medically accurate.

"You didn't tell him?" Ginger frowned. "Why not?"

"Well I tried to." Mary Ann explained. "But this kid fell in the water and Gilligan jumped into to save him and then he was soaked so he had to go home and change…"

The movie star rolled her eyes. "Really Mary Ann you've got to tell him! You can't keep it a secret. It's impossible. I think he will figure it out once your figure starts to grow."

"I know I know." The farm girl said sitting down on the luxurious sofa. "I will. I swear. Just how I'm going to break the news to him I don't know."

"Just tell him." The redhead said firmly. "For goodness sake Mary Ann don't make it so complicated. The sailor has the right to know you are pregnant with his child!"

Just then the Professor had walked in carrying a big bouquet of roses for his wife. He paused for a minute hearing the discussion before entering the room. Ginger turned to him and smiled. "Darling you're home early." She said walking to him as fast as her pregnant self would allow her. She then placed a kiss on his lips and noticed the flowers. "Roy you bought me flowers again? I love you so much. You are so good to me." With that she kissed him once again.

He allowed her to kiss him for another minute or two before breaking away. "My love I heard you and Mary Ann talking. Is it true? Is she…"

The brunette stood up and approached the couple "Yes it's true." She replied. "I'm pregnant. Gilligan is the father."

"I take it he is unaware of this?" The Professor asked.

Ginger nodded. "Yes he doesn't know. Mary Ann is scared to tell him. She thinks he will not be able to handle it. But I know he will. She just has to bite the bullet and do it." The redhead said looking at her friend.

"It's not that easy." Mary Ann insisted. "Gilligan made it clear to me he's not ready for this. He doesn't want to get married now or have children just yet."

The movie star sighed. "Yes I know he said that but sometimes things don't work out the way you planned. You are just going to have to explain that to him. I think Gilligan can handle this. Roy was wonderful when I told him I was having a baby."

Mary Ann shook her head. "That's different. You're married. And besides the way you two go at each other you think you would have ten kids by now."

The Professor pulled at his collar and Ginger frowned. "Very funny." She snapped. "Don't turn this around. You march yourself over to Gilligan and tell him the news. The sooner you get it over with the better. Now move!"

"Fine. I'm going." Mary Ann said. She walked towards the door and paused a minute. A grin came to her face and she turned around. "Say Professor. Ginger told me earlier she promised some special thing if you would stop complaining about all the pictures being taken at the wedding. What was that thing she did?"

The academic gulped and Ginger stalked over as fast as she was able to and scooted the laughing farm girl out the door. Mary Ann giggled for another minute before walking back to her car. She got in and her smiled faded. Ginger was right. She had to tell Gilligan the news. There was no way out of it. He had to know. Maybe if she told the Skipper first he could…No No she had to tell Gilligan. Mary Ann started the car and pulled out of the drive. Her mind was going a mile a minute. Just what was she going to say. And what if Gilligan panicked and said he didn't want her anymore. Would he do such a thing? Would he say he wasn't ready and send her on her way? She had absolutely no idea.

She came to an intersection where the light had just turned yellow. Mary Ann was about to cross over when a hurried driver from the other direction slammed into her causing her vehicle to careen across the road before crashing into the side of a truck. The farm girl was slumped over unconscious.

About five minutes later sirens were blaring and three men worked to remove Mary Ann from her car. It was not an easy task as metal was twisted in every direction. One of them felt for a pulse and breathed a sigh of relief upon finding it. The EMT workers placed her on a stretcher. The police searched the car for identification. The ambulance doors were shut and they raced towards the hospital hoping they could save this young woman's life.

L.A. Memorial Hospital came into view and they pulled up to the emergency entrance.
Mary Ann was taken from the ambulance and hurried towards the OR. The EMT workers gave the doctors their assessment and it was grim. She had quite a gash on her arm and some cuts on her forehead. Their main concern however was the blow she received to the abdomen. This worried them because they had discovered she was pregnant. How this had affected the baby they did not know. The doctor frowned hearing this news. Having received a blow like this could also mean she had internal bleeding. They wouldn't know for certain until they ran some more tests. Right now he needed to get that gash in her arm repaired. It was crucial.

Marina

The Skipper finished up the last tour of the day and thanked everyone. Gilligan was strangely quiet and the sea captain was concerned. "You okay little buddy?"

"I'm fine. It's just that I think Mary Ann wanted to tell me something earlier. I think it may have been important but she left. She hasn't been back. That's not like her."

"Maybe she just got sidetracked with something." The sea captain offered. "Maybe she went to see Ginger and they got to talking and who knows what. You know how they get when they are together. Ginger is probably showing her all the things she bought for the baby and thinking of a million different names."

Gilligan nodded. "I suppose so. But she at least would have called wouldn't she? I'm a little worried."

"Well why don't you call Ginger's house and see if Mary Ann is there or maybe she knows where she went." Skipper suggested.

"Good idea." The first mate said as he hurried to the main office to use the phone.

Skipper hoped the farm girl was okay. Gilligan was right. She would have called to say she was coming back later. It was rather odd she scurried out of there earlier. Maybe she did just get caught up with doing whatever with Ginger. Ginger. Married to the Professor. Amazed he was at how that happened. He never thought in a million years that science man would ever finally admit he was in love with the movie star. It's not like it wasn't obvious. He knew that from the beginning. Just like he knew Ginger would have moved heaven and earth to make Roy Hinkley hers while they were on that island. Well she accomplished her goal that was for sure. The wedding was a splendid affair. Very Hollywood. Ginger sure basked in the attention. She made a very beautiful bride and he thought she looked like royalty the way she came out of the church on the Professor's arm after the ceremony posing for pictures. He laughed to himself at how it was practically impossible to get Ginger to pose for pictures with anyone else. She flat out refused at first but somehow the Professor talked her into it. How he didn't know and didn't care to venture a guess. However when the movie star received the pictures back, she did autograph them for each of them. He had the one of her, Gilligan and himself hanging in his office at the marina. She wrote To My Two Favorite Sailors With Love Ginger. He and Gilligan were standing on either side of her. It was a very nice shot indeed.

Jonas' thoughts were broken by Gilligan running out. "Skipper I just talked to Ginger. She said Mary Ann had been on her way over here. That was over 45 minutes ago! Where could she be!"

"Calm down Gilligan." Skipper said. "Let's think this through. I'm sure there is a logical explanation. If we just…"

Just then one of the workers on the marina came sprinting over. "I just heard on the radio there was an accident out on Palm Leaf Avenue. They said it involved some young woman. The police aren't releasing her name."

Gilligan's heart stopped. Mary Ann. It was Mary Ann. How he knew this he could not explain he just did. That young woman was Mary Ann. He finally found his voice. "Skipper we've got to get to the hospital."

The sea captain nodded. "Right. Come on. Let's go."

The two men hurried to the Skipper's car and he drove as fast as he dared to drive to the hospital. He prayed that if it was Mary Ann she would be okay. Please God let her be okay! If anything happened to her…No he wasn't going to think that. Mary Ann was a fighter. And she could fight through this. He was certain of it.
The hospital came into their sights and Skipper pulled into a space. Both jumped out of the car and raced inside. "Mary Ann." Gilligan babbled to the nurse. "Mary Ann. How is Mary Ann?"

The nurse looked up with a blank expression. "I'm sorry sir who are you referring to?"

"Mary Ann!" Gilligan shouted. "I know she was brought in here! Where is she! Where is Mary Ann!"

"I'm sorry I do no know of who you are referring to."

Skipper gently pushed Gilligan aside and spoke. "We heard on the radio that a young woman was brought here. She was in an accident. We believe that she is our friend Mary Ann Summers. Please can you tell us anything? Her parents are in Kansas. We can get word to them.."

Another nurse arrived. "Did you say Mary Ann Summers?"

"Yes that's right."

"You say you can get in contact with her family?"

"Yes. We can." Gilligan nodded.

"Thank goodness." The woman sighed. "We found her drivers license but nothing else. We had no idea who to call and notify of her condition."

"I can call them." Gilligan said fishing out the number in his pocket. He picked up the phone and brought it closer dialing the number. "Hello? Mrs. Summers? It's me Gilligan. I'm okay. Listen I have something to tell you. Mary Ann's been in a accident."

"What!" Mrs. Summers shrieked. "Is she okay? Is she hurt bad?"

"I don't know anything yet." Gilligan explained. "We just arrived at the hospital. We heard on the radio about an accident. No the doctor is not here. There is a nurse…Okay.."
He handed the phone to the nurse on duty.

"Hello? Mrs. Summers? Yes this is LA Memorial Hospital. Yes your daughter as been brought in. She was in a car accident. Right now she is in the OR. I'm sorry I do not have more answers for you. I can tell you that she has sustained an injury to her arm and some cuts on her head. The doctor should be able to tell you more. Yes I will give him your number and make sure he contacts your right away. The number for the hospital…here it is…"

Gilligan moved away from the nurse station and sat down in a daze. How could this be happening? How? Mary Ann…If anything…No he could not think that anything was going to happen to her. No. He refused to entertain that thought. She would make it. Yes she would. He was going to believe that. Yes. That's what he would believe.

He looked over and saw the Skipper using a payphone to contact the others. He got up from his chair and began to pace around. He never felt so useless in his life. There was nothing he could do for Mary Ann. Nothing. Yet he felt like he should be doing something. Just what that was he didn't know but he wished he could do anything. Anything that would help her. That time he spent away from her. How stupid was he!
How could he say those ridiculous things to her! Can't be together. Different lives. Not ready for this or that yet. If he could turn back the hands of time he would marry his pretty farm girl in a minute. He no longer felt that fear. That fear was gone. That fear was stupid. He had nothing to be afraid of. It was minor compared to his fear of really losing her. That was something he could not even fathom. To live without her. No. He didn't want to do that.

It was maybe twenty minutes later that Ginger arrived with the Professor. Both asked if there was any word. Skipper said there wasn't any news yet. Mr. and Mrs. Howell showed about two minutes later inquiring if there was word. No nothing was the answer they received.

Gilligan was still silent not wishing to speak with anyone. His only focus was on Mary Ann. He pictured her warm brown eyes and kind smile. The way she wore her brunette locks in pigtails. How when he first saw her he thought she was the sweetest looking thing in the world. And how he wished he would have fought Duke for her hand. Big muscles or not, he should have showed that surfer what's what. He hated the way Mary Ann had acted around him. It bothered him more than he wished to admit at the time.

Another hour passed and then another. Mary Ann's family had called twice asking for news and still nothing. Finally about forty five minutes later the doctor came out.
They all stood up as he approached them. The Summers had given permission for the hospital to inform the seven of their daughter's condition. After all they had been family for so long, it was only right.

"Well?" Gilligan said. "How is she? How is Mary Ann?"

"She made it through the surgery." The older doctor stated. "We repaired that gash on her arm that was a big concern. However there was a bigger concern of ours. That was the massive blow she has received to her abdominal area. The reason this was of concern to us was of course due to the baby…"

"Baby!" Gilligan exclaimed his eyes wide. "Baby! What…what do you mean?"

Ginger spoke gently. "Gilligan, Mary Ann just found out she is pregnant. That is what she was on her way to tell you."

"Pregnant?" He said in disbelief. More than just disbelief. Complete total shock. "I…Mary Ann…How…Is the…"

The doctor shook his head. "I'm sorry but we were unable to save the baby."

Gilligan felt like someone smacked him and then punched him in the stomach. He just stood there in shock. Total shock. One minute he was a father, the next…And Mary Ann never got the chance to tell…And when she wakes up…Tears trickled down his face. The others hurried over to comfort him but he didn't want any part of it. He pushed them away and stared at the doctor. He asked in a quiet voice. "Is Mary Ann okay?"

He nodded. "She is. She is in ICU right now. We are going to need to run some additional tests. Right now I will allow you to see her but please keep it brief and one at a time."

Gilligan thanked the doctor and followed him to Mary Ann's room. He walked inside and his heart broke seeing her look so frail. Machines beeping around her. Carefully he approached her bed and took her hand in his. "I love you." He said. "I love you Mary Ann. Please get better real soon. I..I know I've been a coward about us. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I promise I will be stronger. I will not push you away again. And I'm sorry that I got jealous over Scott. I should have listened to you when you said he was just your friend. I promise things will be different. I just need you to come back to me. Please Mary Ann. I know that I can be the man you need."

He gently stroked her hair and watched as she remained asleep in the bed. He leaned over and placed a kiss on her forehead. "I love you. I always will love you. No matter what. You are my girl Mary Ann. Always."

Waiting Room

Ginger buried her face in her husband's chest upon hearing the news of Mary Ann's baby. How awful! Just awful! She had been so excited about it! They were going to take their kids to the park together…and…Ginger cried harder as the Professor tried to comfort her. "My love it's okay...it will be okay…Please don't get yourself too upset." He said gently. "It's not good for our baby." The academic stated kissing the top of her head.

"It's just horrible." Ginger sobbed. "I can't imagine…Darling you think they will still be able to have children?"

The Professor nodded. "I think it may be a possibility. Mary Ann is young and healthy. I am pretty sure there will be more children in her and Gilligan's future."

Mrs. Howell dabbed her eyes. She couldn't believe this. She felt like it was her own daughter in there fighting for her life. She was powerless to do anything. All the money in the world wouldn't do anything to bring back Mary Ann's baby. How she wished it would. She would give every last cent she had to bring that child back.

Mr. Howell sat subdued. He like his wife felt helpless. He couldn't bark orders at the hospital staff to save that child. He couldn't snap his fingers and have the baby returned. And poor Mary Ann. The heartbreak she was going to feel once she..it was too much for him to think about.

Skipper sat on a chair feeling just as helpless. His little buddy was going to be a father and just like that…because some idiot can't look where they are going….He wished he could find that driver and wring his neck. Mary Ann and Gilligan did not deserve this. Not one bit of it. He just prayed they could make it through. Please just get them through this God.
