Sorry everyone. I'm in high school so what do you expect, mountains of homework. Even on the winter break. Anyway this chapter is 3,500 words long and I decide to talk about a non-Greek monster (well not really a monster). And this took me months to finish since I had a long period of no-creativity.
Hope you guys like it!

Percy
Well, we had a safe start. Nice weather, the currents aren't wild and everyone is fine. Except I think Grace is having a thing going on with Lenny, well I think, I'm not sure. Because she is still cold as ice towards Lenny and she masks herself from him by that. Her fake smile looks real but really, she doesn't mean it. It's like she got enormous layers of masks, first she was emotionless with fake smiles, after she is warmer and friendly and then after the same thing again. A layer after another layer after another layer, but if I was one of the people who doesn't know her then she would always look emotionless and cold from my point of view.
I wonder what her real side is; it's either one or the other, or something totally different. Even though I'm her "step" brother, I think I would never know.
Suddenly the boat shook, I jumped a bit. I search the area, but I didn't see anything. I wonder what is it and then I noticed that it's a herd of dolphins. The clicks and sounds underwater made it pretty clear that it's dolphins. I guess they wanted to play, or so I presume. "Hey! There are dolphins!" I heard Lenny yelled out loud, I guess he never seen one in real life before.
"Uhh, Percy," Grace mumbled beside me.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"Something tells me that they are warning us."
"Why didn't they just say it above water?"
"Maybe others will hear? I don't know." She shrugged.
"Wanna check it out?"
"I'll go. You stay here and watch out for monsters." And just like that, she dive in. So smooth that I can't hear the big splash that people have when they jump into the water.
Help! Help us! There's trouble! I heard one of the calves said.
Sounds like something big, it's either getting us in danger or it's giving all of us a big problem.
I seized the boat to stand by position, waiting for her to come up and tell us what's going on.
"Something wrong?" Annabeth asked. I see Thalia's face is full of confusion and concern and Lenny is still looking at dolphins.
"Grace is checking on something, she'll come back up soon," I replied back to them. I look over at the spot where she dived into, waiting for her to come back up. For some reason, I felt a weird disturbance within one of the currents around us. It slowed down as if the strong current itself ran out of power. Few moments later, Grace's head popped up from the surface of the water.
"What did they say?" I asked her impatiently.
"They said there's a big monster coming, I have no idea what it is though," she replied, a bit concerned. "But it seems huge."
"Seems like it!" I yelped. I can feel the actual size of the thing now, it's huge! No, rephrase: It's gigantic! "Come back up!" I told her.
"Everyone, there is a big thing coming our way!" I yelled at everyone else. We have to get ready, who knows what it is. How strong it is, how dangerous it is, what threat it could bring. We don't know….
As soon as Grace climbed up, I raised the anchor and let the boat go in full speed, try to outrun the big monster that's coming, if we can.
"There's something at 2 o'clock,'' Thalia shouted out. "And it's coming our way fast!"
"Percy! Turn left!" Annabeth suggests. And I did, I think it's because we can get a good target. I think we're a bit slow since the monster is coming faster than we can change directions.
I can feel it coming: 50 meters, 45 meters, 40 meters, 35 meters, 30 meters and 25 meters-we should see it now-, 20 meters. In matter of minutes, I see a white surface rising a bit from the sea. It dived down, revealing its tail, which happens to be a tail of a whale.
I heard the dolphins screamed "Run!" from below.
Now this reminds me of something, a big white whale. It's something rare, because white whales aren't that huge. Beluga whales are about human sized except they are a bit larger than us.
I kept on thinking and thinking, and then it hit me.
"Please don't tell me that's what I think it is," I said.
"What?" Annabeth asked, confusedly.
"A big white sperm whale, what does it remind you of?"
She frowned, "Moby Dick? The Great White Whale?" I nodded in agreement.
"You serious?" Lenny asked us, seems to scare the living hell out of him.
"What else do you think?" Grace answered emotionlessly, not bothering to even look at him.
"You guys might have a moment of frowning at the fact that the Great White Whale is attacking us," Thalia disturbs our conversation, imitating the panic mode, "Why don't we get ready for the wreckage?" She suggested, smiling.
"Haha, very funny Thalia," I laughed at her. Annabeth stood on her tiptoes to take a look at the whale. I couldn't really see it but it's near us, no circling us. It felt like it's circling its prey or something. Like the orcas circling their prey, seals, till they're dizzy and eats them. Only it's a sperm whale, not an orca (killer whale), luckily.
Oh wait, sperm whales eat fish and squids, which means, possibly it will eat us as well. We have a living swimming carnivore coming for us, a big one. Uh oh…
And then, the boat groaned and tilted to the left and back, Lenny fell backwards to the floor. This is really rough, I think I better stop the boat or else it will tip over faster. I pulled the boat to a quick stop, and then we're spinning.
I have no idea what the whale is doing but I think its playing with us like a cat playing with a mouse till its dead.
I'm feeling a bit woozy now, not to mention wobbly. I couldn't even stand, everything is spinning and blurry around me. I collapsed to the floor, hoping if I can stop my wooziness. Suddenly, cold water splashed over my head, it immediately cleared me up from the dizziness. "Percy! Wake up! Or else you'll turn into food!" I heard Grace yelled out from somewhere. I see others are wet too, I guess she splashed them all with cold seawater.
Luckily she woke us up from the dizziness, it really hurts my head. It probably damaged my brain, well I'll be fine. I guess ambrosia and nectar would fix it.
The boat shook. I grab onto the steering wheel and the railings from keeping myself falling to the ground.
"You guys, okay?" Grace asked us, her face is wet also, and I guess she did it to herself before she even passes out.
"I'm alright!" I called out.
"Yeah, I feel wobbly but I'm fine," Annabeth answered from somewhere.
I heard a few groans and moan from below, maybe its Lenny. Probably in a worst state than the rest of us; I felt bad for this guy.
"That was werid, I don't felt this dizzy before," Thalia replied back. Now she mentioned it, I've never been this dizzy before on water. Especially when I'm a Son of Poseidon, I shouldn't have any seasickness at all.
The boat shook again, more violent this time. "Whoa!" I exclaimed. I let go of the steering wheel and hold the railings with both hands.
"Wha…whoa!" Lenny fell hard onto the floor backwards, head first. Ouch…
"You okay over there?" I asked him. "Your skull didn't crack open or anything?"
"I'm fine!" He smiled sheepishly.
The wind blew my face dry like an automatic blow-dryer and I start to feel dizzy again. When I almost went into the worst woozy feeling you could ever had, I find myself having a bucket of water dumped all over me again. My clothes would be soaked now if I wasn't a Son of Poseidon. "You okay?" Grace asked me again.
"I'm fine," I replied annoyingly, "Thanks for keep on splashing me with water but I find it very annoying right now."
"I'm sorry!" She apologizes, putting her hands up as if she's surrendering, "But guess what, I think we have to keep ourselves awake by cold water. Or else…we're," She gave me the 'we're-dead' hand posture.
"Thank you but I prefer something like cold freshwater instead of cold sea water," Lenny said, a bit offensive, "It tastes salty," he tastes his lip.
"Hey Lenny," Thalia called out, "I would rather get splashed by sea water than icebergs. So feel lucky! You could be dead by now."
The boat kept rocking left and right, Lenny retches over the side. I guess this guy has seasickness, a minor one maybe. Poor Lenny.
Annabeth is swaying side to side, I splashed water on her. "What? I'm awake, I'm awake," She wakes up, making sure she doesn't fall asleep.
"You alright?" I asked her. "Sorry if that made you mad."
"I'm ok," she tries to stable herself, "It's fine, I guess I shouldn't wipe my face dry." She almost wipes her face dry with her shirt.
"Anyone got an ice pack or something?" Lenny asks. Moonlight Sea shook again, now it's swaying up and down instead of sideways. He starts to retch again, oh boy…
"Hey Percy!" Grace called out, "Don't you think it's a bit weird that there's barely any damage it's causing?" And we heard a loud crack somewhere, "Umm forget what I just said…" she answered back.
"I'll take a look at it," Annabeth informed us. The boat suddenly swung forward, causing Grace and Lenny to fly across the deck, Grace hit the railing with her back and a gasp, seems like the air was knocked out of her lungs. Lenny landed with the side of his head, groaning.
"Both okay?" Thalia asked from above.
Grace inhaled a big breath of air, unable to speak and she let it out. "I'm fine," she replied.
Lenny in the other hand, he was groaning loudly while he hugged his head and rolled around like a baby.
"I need help down here! It's leaking," Annabeth called out from below.
"Coming!" Grace answered and immediately ran.
I think I better move a bit, because the boat it's gonna get damaged quickly with us just stay on this spot. But….I can't move too fast because it's going to pressure the leaks and probably going to damage it even more.
I lift the anchor up, and waited for the next encounter.
It's coming from the South-West side, 50 meters. About 8 seconds it's going to hit, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, NOW!
I turned the boat to the right and I can feel it that whale missed us about a few inches. Its speed caused us to move farther to the right; I pulled the boat into mid-speed.
The whale chased after us, I slowed down and jerked the boat to the left. It missed us again and I sped up again. I kept continuing the process of avoiding contact.
I ran downstairs to where the damage it is, before that I ordered the boat to continue the process.
And I saw the damage, open cracks about the shape of a pencil with weak points all around it. But there is no water coming through, and then I realized Grace was creating a bubble of air on the outside to stop the leaking while Annabeth repairs the damage.
"Everything okay?" I asked them.
"Percy, mind if you get a piece of wood?" Annabeth asks back, not answering my question.
I head for the cargo and took a piece with wood about the length of my arm span and width about twice the size of my hand span. Well that's the first one I took since she didn't say the size of a wood she needs. Don't blame me that I didn't bring what she wanted.
I stand behind the two gals, watching them working here and there, and then noticed how dumb I look right now standing there. I bet I would be even more dumb saying this, "Here you go," I raised it up to her head.
"Oh, thank you!" she thanked me, casually.
I realized I have nothing else to do so I walked away, until Grace called behind me. "Hey Percy! Do you know what's up with the whale?"
I turned on my heel, "What?" I asked her.
"Can't you hear it talking?" She called again.
I've been busy trying to stable myself plus trying to be awake; I don't think I heard it talking.
"Didn't notice," I told her.
"I heard it talking and I think she's somehow mad."
"Wait, what?" What is she talking about?
"It's like we're disturbing her sleep or something."
"So it's like she eats who bugs her."
"Seems like it!" And the boat shook.
"Are you sure? What are we going to do?"
"I don't know, distract her from this damage."
"So your point is that I should make contact with the whale so she can stop taking down our boat to Greece."
"Someone should, but since Thalia and Lenny doesn't know what's it's saying so I guess yeah."
I muttered under my breath but I decide to do it anyway. I ran up to the deck and dived overboard into the deep blue sea.
Well it freshened up my mind and body, I won't be dizzy anymore. Stayed here for few seconds and dove deeper to look for the sperm whale.
I'm now about 5 feet below the surface, I spotted the group of dolphins we spotted before. I swam towards them, they spotted me before I even got close but it seems they aren't going anywhere from where they are. "You guys alright?" I asked them.
"It's the whale!" one of them cried.
"She is going to kill us!" the smallest one nudged my hand.
"Guys calm down, it's going to be okay," I told them. Hoping that I know what I'm doing, because I'm doing something that's a bit crazy. I swam away from the group of dolphins, away from their cries of concern and protest.
I see a big shape swimming towards Moonlight Sea. Well, here goes nothing. "Hey! You over there! Can I help you on something?!" I yelled as loud as I can, wondering if she can't hear me.
I hear no response so I swam forward, one chomp and I'll be in the whale's stomach. I wish I have a better plan than this.
I felt the rushing energy of the sperm whale coming towards me; I closed my eyes to let the impact to crush me since I have no other opinion.
Instead of the impact that can crush my ribs, I feel a soft nudge against my stomach. I opened my left eye and see that the big albino whale stopped. And I'm few inches away to touch its big forehead. I froze there, since it might do that to bug me, but I don't feel relieved.
Few minutes past, still neither of us moved, I wonder what it is doing.
I turned myself upside-down so I can meet its eye. "Hi," I waved at the whale.
"What do you want?" it responded furiously. Pounding my head with its thoughts.
"Why were you attacking the ship over there?" I asked, hiding my fear within it.
"Are you one of the people on it?" It roared.
"Do I look like I need a boat?" I raised my arms and took a silent gulp.
"A Son of Poseidon, huh? I see…" it said sarcastically with interest, suddenly it hit me and it sent me few meters away until I cushioned the impact with currents.
I gritted my teeth and I use my power to pin the whale to the seafloor, if I can.
I close my eyes and focused on the task till I hear a big scream that pounds my head again, "Help!"
I opened my eyes and realized a whale net is caught in its tail. I swam as fast as I can and I cut the ropes like thread with Riptide. I honestly did not do that, but at least I did not mean any harm. "You alright?" I asked the whale.
"Was it you who did it?" It yelled.
"No. Seriously I do not any harm." As I said it, a net descends from above. The whale and I got stuck in it, I tried to swim downwards but the net falls as fast.
"See what I mean?" I told the whale.
It grunts and suddenly another net falls on us. I see the boat on top of us; they are throwing nets to capture the whale.
What the hell are they doing? It's going to make it go rampage. I yell in top my lungs, "STOP THROWING NETS!" And I choke a bit on the last word.
Instead of the increasing weight burdening my shoulders, they stopped throwing nets. Apparently I'm relieved, but the whale is furious than ever. I cut myself loose and I start cutting the nets on top of the whale.
It moved like a fish torn away from its world till it's completely free. It pants badly, reminds me of Lenny, and asked me, "Why save me? Wasn't it me who sunk almost all of the ships that are in my sight?"
"People may still want to hunt you down, but why kill you and not blue whales when you are the size of their kind? Don't you think the life in the ocean is extinct enough?" I replied, try to sound reasoning. To my surprise, it stared back at me with huge blue sapphire eyes.
"Why do you see me as a whale instead of a monster?" It spoke…softly.
"Because you are one, aren't you?" I said, "They think you are a monster just because you are the only white whale in the biggest size in the world."
Again silence, Grace asked me from above whether I'm alright or not. I whispered instead of talk since I do not want the whale to think I don't have attention to it.
"I wish everyone could think the same as you, but they don't because they are stupid seagulls." It swore, well I guess in marine language. Grace asked me again but I told her to wait.
"One question, what's your name?" I asked the whale, from myths they called it Moby Dick but it's too ridiculous for a name of this kind of whale.
"Pearl," it whispered, I almost didn't catch it.
"So Pearl, why are you the only white sperm whale in the world," I asked her casually.
"What do you think? I'm an albino and I'm gigantic. No one accepts the way I am, so I end up feeding on humans from ships and being a complete loner," I snorted.
"Wow, that's nice of them," I said sarcastically. Thinking for a while and she reminded me of an article about albino people. People will think that albinos are cursed when they are born, so they end up killing them when they are children. Albino is just a genetic disorder; the body pigment isn't strong so the body doesn't have any colour. And I meant by white skin, white hair and white eyes. Last though: She does not deserve to be treated like this, she is still a whale among other whales. "Tell you what, I'll help you." I spoke, breaking the silence.
"WHAT?!" she shouted, the voice shook my head.
"They are being stupid because of judgements, so I'll deal with it. You stop feeding on humans so humans won't hunt you down again. Stay in this quiet region for a while and you won't be alone. For now I have to go or else nets are coming down again. Hang in there, Pearl!" I swam to Moonlight Sea as fast as I can.
"I hope what you said is the truth! I will do as you say!" the whale spoke for the last time.
I jumped out from the surface to the deck, I stumbled and crashed on the floor, panting.
"You alright?!" Annabeth yelled and ran to me, helping me up. I nodded and look at the crew around me, my gaze fell on Grace.
"What did you do?" Grace asked me, her face expression scares me to be honest.
"Long story, to sum it up, I did not kill the albino whale and it decide to save her," I replied.
"Her?" Lenny stammered with wide eyes.
"Her name is Pearl, not Moby Dick," I said enthusiastically.
They all look at me with odd faces as if I'm crazy. But I don't feel awkward; she deserves to live as the only albino whale with blue eyes.
