I apologize for how long it has taken me to update this fic, honestly my life has been really busy atm. I have a new job now, I'm trying to write non fiction, etc busy life

anyway, I hope you like the new chapter, I hope it tides you over until the next time I update :)

Haru lay weakly under the futon, his body heavy and dripping in sweat. His head was spinning and a fog clouded his mind. Of all times he had to get sick now? With him, in this state, the temple would be weakened and unprotected. Despite him always taking Makoto's medicine. He knew it sounded immature, but he hated getting sick, because he was unmotivated and bored. Realizing how he took being healthy for granted because he was now less so.

He hated being sticky with sweat, he hated the cold chills, the occasional nausea and the lack of appetite. He had always been prone to occasional summer fevers ever since he was a kid, but that never made them any easier. He never enjoyed them, he just tolerated them and suffered in silence despite the fact he was annoyed as hell about it. Silently sulking about how unfair life was because of all people and all times, it had to happen to him and it had to happen now.

It seemed all sorts of dramatic and unexpected events had come his way since Rin came into his life, but he took them with a grain of salt. He knew none of them were her fault and it was just unfortunate circumstances. Rin may have demonic influence but she was not solely responsible for every misfortune that he may suffer. He wasn't that naive to suspect she was responsible for everything, he was an open minded human being after all.

Rin sat in silence beside him, a calm but cautious expression on her face. He was always pushing himself, so was it any wonder he had gotten sick. He may have kept his body healthy, but exerting himself by never taking a break had finally gotten to him. He needed rest and lots of it. Despite her sharing her energy with him, even that wouldn't be enough sometimes. Haru would still be prone to weakness even with her boosts. Which is why she was so protective over him, to make sure he never came to harm.

"I brought you medicinal herbs that you can brew into tea, medicine balls, sage to cleanse the house. Honey and milk will help clear your mind, and eat plenty of porridge or stew" Makoto rambled. She had been taking care of Haru since they were kids, so she already knew everything he would need in this scenario. She wouldn't take no for an answer, he was going to eat these herbs until he was back to full strength. She didn't care how long it took, he would get better in time.

Rin couldn't help but crack a small smile upon hearing this, it was odd to think she had ever been threatened by Makoto once. She acted so much like a mother or big sister to him the idea of a romance between the two sounded ludicrous. She was truly a gentle and kind soul who looked out for everyone, she didn't have a bad bone in her body. When she eventually became a bride to someone in the future, they would be the luckiest person in the entire world. Hopefully things would work out with that Sousuke boy.

Haru moaned weakly, the idea of eating right now made his stomach turn. He felt sick, weak and too hot. He hated to sound ungrateful, but he felt so bad that it was affecting his mood. God, he needed rest, but even when he closed his eyes it only lessened his fatigue a little. His bangs were sticking to his forehead, grossing him out. He prided himself on being hygienic, which was not easy to do when you felt like utter crap.

Makoto shifted, she worried about the state of the temple while Haru would be in this state. Who would protect it? Who would keep it safe, he was the sole guardian now that his grandpa was gone. What if something happened? She knew all the responsibilities he took on after his grandpa died, he was still a teenager for crying out loud, he had a lot of pressure in his life which only caused this situation.

Rin saw Makoto's expression, she pitied the poor girl. Her best friend was laying here sick and she felt torn between going to see her crush and looking after a guy who was pretty much her family. But Haru would be fine in her hands, nothing would happen to him. She sighed heavily "Makoto, if I may have a word outside?" she asked abruptly, her tone calm yet authoritative. She could handle things here, she had watched over Haru since they were kids. It would make no difference to her now.

Makoto hesitated before getting to her feet and following Rin outside hesitantly. Worrying if she was going to be scolded by Rin for not being careful and her medicine not helping Haru at all. She slid the door closed behind her as she and Rin stepped out onto the porch. She tried to balance her personal life and school life equally, trying to learn all the skills she could, focusing towards her future and making time for those she loved. It wasn't easy she admitted, especially now that a potential romance was in the mix now too. However, what happened next was not what she expected at all.

"It's not your fault Makoto, he's only human. The medicine you provide really does wonders, but that won't stop exertion or viruses completely. He just needs to take things easy a while is all" Rin reassured her softly. Even demons were prone to sickness and injury the same as humans, only it affected them differently to humans. Due to their stronger stamina and such, they carried different blood after all. But Makoto had done a good job of helping him all this time.

Makoto was taken aback by this, then blushed awkwardly a look of guilt on her face. "Gomen, was it that obvious? I… I just wish I could do more. I know he pushes himself a lot and he really has improved since you showed up Rin. But… I guess it's a habit is all, he's like my family" she apologized bashfully. She had been born with 2 siblings growing up, however never carried the talent for medicine as she did. So her parents let Makoto stay with her grandparents while they took her siblings and raised them elsewhere. She was still able to contact them, but they would never understand her gift. But when she and Haru had grown up around his temple, his grandpa organising play dates. They had truly connected and bonded, she could never see the things he did. However, they both carried gifts that made them special. She was a talented herbalist, gardener and a loyal best friend.

Rin took Makoto's hand and squeezed it gently in a supportive manner. "I know you are worried, believe me, I am too. But Haru will only get worse if you blame yourself. The best you can do is make medicine to help his stamina and lessen the fever. But more so get rest, panic makes you stupid" she warned insightfully. She herself was panicking about Haru, how weak and frail he looked. Knowing the dangers he would be open to now that he was weakened and unable to use his powers. The demonic influence that he would be prone to because of demons and evil spirits. But there was no way in hell she would let them near him, unless they wanted to die.

Makoto sighed, why was it that Rin's words helped alleviate any stress or worries that lay dormant in her heart? Haru was really lucky to have a girl like her around to protect and support him. "So, now what are you gonna do?". She felt relieved to know that when she wasn't around to check in, he now had someone to protect him. It really did make both their lives easier and allowed her to take things easy every now and again.

Rin shifted, she knew this would take a lot out of her. Though she was a powerful Tengu and had looked out for this temple for many years. She knew that by focusing her powers non-stop would drain her. Even demons had a weakness, putting up a barrier until Haru got better would be a challenge. It meant she would have to focus her ki uninterrupted, no sleep, no food, she wouldn't even be able to sit by his bedside. She had to lock herself in the temple to keep him protected. "I'll keep watch, day and night if I have to. I will guard this temple until Haru is strong enough to do so again himself" she declared.

Rin sighed heavily, her body radiating with power, focusing her ki like a demonic battery. Taking slow breaths, a large barrier surrounding the temple grounds. To any normal human, they would not be able to see it or even notice it's presence. To anyone with a spiritual or magical gift, they would sense a powerful aura but never be able to pinpoint the location. Or anyone with the magic eye would see the barrier protecting the temple. Demons would undoubtedly see it, however, they would never be able to get through. Of all the kinds of barriers, Tengu's were able to create some of the strongest. If she willed it, nothing and nobody who was not welcome would be able to enter this place.

Her body felt heavy like there was something weighing down on her shoulders. She had been at this for a few days now, though she had protected the temple for years. She had never used her full power for this long. Her grandpa had always taught her to consider her physical health when using her power. She knew how hard Haru worked, but now she felt saddened to know this pressure was on him. That this much evil influence was trying to get inside the temple, she needed to become stronger. She would never let Haruka come to harm while she could protect him. Her magenta eyes glowed red, power pulsing through her. Mumbling incantations under her breath, thinking of Haruka, of him lying helplessly in bed. This was for his sake, it was her responsibility to keep his home safe.

Since Haruka was sick, no human really came here due to the fact he was unable to sell charms, perform exorcisms etc. His priest responsibilities on hold until his health and strength were back to their full capacity once again. But then it would do him some good to get some time off. "I have to keep this place safe, it's our home. We lived here together as kids, even if he was unaware of me at the time". She had chased away all demons that threatened him until now, she had watched him grow from a young boy into a handsome young man. Her adolescent love following her into her teenage years, her first and only love. This place carried both of their memories, good and bad. This place meant everything to them, she would protect it with her life. Regardless of the effect, this may have on her, it would be worth it in the end. She would protect innocent and good souled humans with every fibre of her being because she truly believed that decent people like Haru still existed in this world.

Makoto slowly paced up the temple stairs, her mind wracked with worry. Haru had been getting better, his fever lessening. However, he was not fully recovered and still feverish. Though his strength had started to return if he pushed himself he would fall back into a worse state. She was still mad at herself for not being more dutiful and paying attention because this whole situation could have been avoided. She really believed her medicine was helping, she obviously still had a long way to go. Maybe it wasn't as good as she thought it was, perhaps Haru was just too kind to tell it to her face. So that he wouldn't hurt her feelings, but that only made her feel worse.

She shook her head adamantly, Rin had been right. Panic really did make you stupid, she was overthinking and assuming things that were based on fear and self-doubt. This was taking a toll on her and distracted her from her duties. She really had thought that Haru would be getting better. "I need tea," she thought to herself. Some medicinal herbal tea would help steady her nerves and calm her mind. She had started neglecting herself due to worry because she had been distracted. She needed to stop, breathe and disconnect for a while. As she reached the courtyard, she felt it. A strong power, filling the grounds like a thick fog. She didn't carry Haru's strong spiritual power but she could sense ki. This was like nothing she had ever felt. She was surprised anyone could enter this place. She knew Rin said she would handle the situation, protecting this place from harm while Haru was recovering. But she worried about how intently Rin was taking this responsibility.

Something felt off, there were no people around, there was not even a breeze, the place was dead. It felt like something out of a horror movie or something, sending chills down her spine. She swallowed nervously, mustering up her courage knowing she couldn't turn back. "Rin? It's me, where are you?" she asked hesitantly. She didn't like this feeling at all, everything in her body was warning her that someone was in trouble. Part of her wanted to run away and not look back.

"Welcome back Makoto" Rin growled weakly. She couldn't afford distraction no matter how brief. God, she felt a little dizzy, exhaustion and hunger starting to get the better of her. Thank god for her well-chosen position. Keeping her recharged and protected at the same time. So long as she sat here, no other demon could influence or even attempt to break through while she was weakened. The temple was her safe space, as it's guardian she carried a connection to it.

Makoto looked towards the temple, her eyes wide with horror and a look of disbelief on her face. Was Rin mad? How long had she been at this? She knew Rin had reassured her she could handle this, but now she wished she had intervened and offered to stay too. Rin looked seriously pale, her eyes looked tired, she looked thinner, she was sweating and her eyes looked disorientated. When was the last time she ate? Had she even eaten? Hell, she needed to take a break before she burned herself out. "Rin?! What the hell?! Are you insane, this could kill you!" she snapped furiously. Her mild temperament breaking as panic and worry began to set in. What the hell would Haru think if he saw her like this? He would only blame himself if he saw how weak she looked.

Rin laughed under her breath "I'll be fine, I'm not like you or Haru, I may look like shit. But unlike you humans, my stamina is stronger than yours" she explained. Makoto was bound to find out sometime or another, though she had done well to hide it. The cat was out of the bag now. She was beyond caring, she was too tired to even think about keeping her filter on. I mean she looked suspicious enough already, until now Makoto had never even known about her identity or powers. She was stunned that she hadn't been a little suspicious of her, I mean she had remained hidden until now.

Makoto looked confused, what was Rin talking about? Not like her, stamina? None of this made sense, had she gone crazy? "Rin, you need to rest. Your body is giving out, hell I'm stunned you've lasted this long already" she replied in concern. What the hell had she been thinking? She knew she was worried, they both were. This was not an easy situation for either of them. Someone they both cared for deeply, was laying in bed because he had overwhelmed himself and neglected his own self care.

Rin peered down at Makoto, she truly carried a warm and gentle heart. That boy Sousuke was truly a lucky guy to have earned her affections. Now if only she would get the courage to ask him out already. "Makoto, what I am about to tell you, hell show you. You must keep it a secret" she warned. Demons did not always show themselves to humans, they remained elusive and protected. Only wicked demons revealed their existence, trying to feed off the humans as prey. But she had always watched over humanity from afar, staying secret and a legend.

Makoto gripped her hands into balled fists, she was scared. Rin was acting odd, but she knew this was no joke. She could sense no mischief, hidden motives or sarcasm in her tone, she was being completely honest and painfully serious with her in that moment. There was something not right going on and she wanted to know what. She just hoped nothing burst out and ended up becoming a horror film. She nodded in response to Rin's statement, making a promise. Her body trembling with fear, sweat running down her back as her mind wandered to what scenario was about to take place.

Rin closed her eyes, gritting her teeth and shifting uncomfortably "Gomen, Ouji-chan. But this is for Haru's sake" she mumbled under her breath. She had always promised to hide from human's and never show who she was to anyone. But now she had to break that promise, but she would handle the repercussions. Slowly her wings burst from her back, extending and rising into the air like two dark arches. Small feathers falling to the ground, then slowly reclined them to protect her form from behind. Her eyes now carried a demonic slit, showing her true nature.

Makoto felt a shiver of fear run down her back, was this a joke? Was this a dream? "Rin… I… what?" she babbled nervously. Part of her wanted to run far away and hope to forget all about this. But her legs were frozen stiff making her unable to so much as even move. Had she gone mad from insomnia or sleep deprivation, what was this about secrets and promises? It seemed Rin was more affected by this than she was, if she wanted to talk about it she would understand.

"As I said, I'm not like you humans. I'm a Tengu, one of the strongest demons from Japanese myths. I've been protecting this place since you and Haruka were kids. What I'm experiencing is fatigue, but I'll recover. How can I rest while the boy I love is lying unconscious and sick in his bed" she replied in a hurt tone. She felt so weak, so naked. She had never shown this side of herself to anyone but Haruka. She wouldn't blame Makoto if she was scared to death and now hated her. This was a lot to handle so quickly.

Makoto swallowed, this was the first time she was meeting a demon in person. She had read all about them in books and new Haru carried the gifted sight to see such things. Who knew Haruka had been living with one ever since they were kids. She had so much rushing through her head right now, but she was so stunned she couldn't think of anything to say, so her mind hit autopilot. She then picked up the bag she had been carrying. "This will help, I brought medicine. You look like you need it" she babbled timidly. She couldn't think of anything else to say.

Makoto sat at the porch of the temple silently, no wonder Rin was so beautiful and powerful. She wasn't human after all, they carried a charm and charisma that was based on alluring humans for centuries. Their demon blood like a spell, alluring their prey. She had so many mixed feelings about this, but not one of them negative. She had always believed and been raised with the belief that not all demons were evil. Rin had lived in this temple as long as Haruka had since they were both ten years old. She had lived here with her grandpa, developing her powers and learning all about her duties from him. She had been protecting this place and watching over Haruka for the past 7 years. That was a dedication that she could not even compare to. "So, you're a demon. I guess that explains a lot, I mean I doubt any other woman could handle Haru's power" she joked.

Rin laughed weakly, staring at the sky silently as white clouds rolled silently through the sky "Sorry you had to find out this way, believe me, I'd have been happier you not knowing. But given how worried you were, I doubt keeping the secret would have helped" she explained. She sipped on the medicinal tea Makoto had brewed, she really was skilled. She could already feel her energy being restored, her stamina being boosted and strength returning. This stuff would help her get through the week until Haruka recovered fully.

Makoto shook her head "I was bound to find out sooner or later. I'm just glad Haruka had someone who is as loyal and loves him as much as you do" she replied softly. She had never seen Haruka as happy as he was with Rin, which reassured her. Her jealousy, protectiveness, loyalty and honesty made so much sense now. Her devoted love to Haruka was honestly very admirable and gave her hope for herself and Sousuke. Though she had never really heard about demon and human relationships other than in books, it didn't really bother her all that much. She only cared about the fact that the two of them were both happy.

Rin felt her cheeks darken with embarrassment, admitting that she was in love with Haruka to someone else felt really strange. She had kept it to herself all these years and never told anyone but her grandpa. Given he had always been her closest confidant. She knew that not everyone back home would approve, relationships between humans and demons was very rare. Which is why in the human realm it was a myth, due to how uncommon it was. Mainly being used as a warning to scare kids into being cautious.

"Makes sense why you would see me as a threat. But obviously, you know about Sousuke now" Makoto joked. A romantic relationship between herself and Haruka was impossible, they were like brother and sister. Though she knew some childhood friends ending up dating, her feelings towards him were purely platonic and not romantic. He was like her family, the love she carried for him was like that of a sibling looking out for the other. She had been in love with Sousuke since she was a first year, watching and admiring him from afar. Pretty much similar to that of Rin and her crush on Haruka.

A pained look came across Rin's face, feeling strange about telling this to Makoto. I mean their friendship was very new still, they didn't really have that many interactions. "I just wanted to protect him, until I met Haru I was all alone. I know it sounds mushy but he really was and still is my first love. The thought of losing him terrifies me" Rin confessed shyly. She only got angry, emotional or defiant because she cared because she wanted him to stay safe. Sometimes she felt she was going crazy with how much she cared about him.

Makoto smiled warmly, she then took Rin's hand and squeezed it supportively. The same way Rin had when she was worried about Haru earlier in the week. "Haru knows you love him, I've been watching you two. He's much happier than he was when we were kids, I know he doesn't always show it. But he does love you". She then handed Rin a package of her medicine "You may be a demon, but this will help give you energy. Given how much of your power you are using to protect the temple".

Rin took the package, gazing at it in awe. She didn't have to do this, she didn't owe her anything at all. There was no bond between them, they were still semi strangers after all. Makoto really had a heart of gold she was the second friend she had ever made in her life next to Haruka. Despite learning she was a demon, she was taking this rather well. She showed no fear or hatred towards her whatsoever. "Arigato Makoto, this means so much to me" she replied gratefully. Giving her hope they could be friends in the future.

"I'll be staying here a while, given I have to keep an eye on both of you. That way I can keep you up to date with Haru's recovery" Makoto replied adamantly. She would not let Rin put herself in such a state again, she needed to eat and she needed her medicine. Worry and stress were obviously doing her no good, physically, emotionally or mentally. Knowing how Haruka was doing would bring her relief and allow her to focus on guarding the temple without worry eating her alive.

The sound of birds and the rustle of leaves in the wind filled Haru's ears. His body felt heavy, he was still utterly exhausted and in utter discomfort. His strength was slowly returning, but he didn't have the energy to get up yet. He had given himself a fever from overworking and possibly a classmate or customer giving him a virus. It seemed that Rin's demonic power as strong as it was couldn't stop him from getting sick. He hated getting ill for the one reason being that he was always bored. He never had anything to do aside from lay in a futon and stare at the ceiling.

He found himself longing for Rin, as annoying as she could be at times. She always kept him company and left him in a good mood. All the time he had been bedridden, she had not once come to his side. Making him wonder if she was mad at him or left him. He had become so used to her company that this place was now her home. The thought of her no longer being around made him feel incredibly lonely. If not for Makoto's medicine he doubted he would feel any better at all. He had been able to get his appetite back at least and soon enough he would be able to walk around again. But it would take some time before he was fully able to walk around the grounds normally.

He gazed outside silently, his blue eyes calm and yet filled with longing. Wishing that Rin was sat outside on the porch to keep him company. Her magenta bangs blowing in the wind, her large black wings blocking out the sun. His guardian demon who had been watching over him since adolescence. "Rin" he found himself calling out her name mentally as if she would appear if summoned. He then heard footsteps approaching, his heart skipping a beat in anticipation. He stared in the direction of the sound hoping it was her, hoping she had heard his longing for her.

Makoto appeared in the doorway, wearing a pair of blue jeans and a white short sleeved shirt. A relieved yet worried look on her face "Thank goodness Haru, I'm glad to see you awake. You look much better now" she sighed in relief. It seems to rest and her medicine and helped him recover. She then approached with a tray of rice and egg gruel and some medicinal tea. Placing it beside Haruka's bed carefully, making sure not to spill anything. This would help him feel much better and refuel his lost nutrients.

Haru peered at Makoto, she looked shaken and weary. Makoto was the kind of person who was always optimistic and never let things get to her, she saw a silver lining in any situation. Which made him worry about her, to have affected her this much. He knew something had happened but he didn't know what. Was Rin ok? Was she hurt? What had been happening since he was gone? The tension made him feel uneasy. "Makoto, what…" he trailed off.

Makoto sighed, she had a feeling that Haruka had been trying to keep it a secret. Trying to protect her from the fact that he was living with a demon, who was also his lover. Scared of what she would think of him given he was supposed to protect the temple from them. "I know Haruka, I know about all of it. I know that Rin is a demon and the fact she is in love with you. Honestly, I know you're falling for her too. I'm not mad, in fact, I'd say she's the perfect woman for you. What I am upset about, is how much danger she is putting herself in for your sake".

Haruka looked confused, what the hell was she talking about? He wanted to ask her so many questions but he wasn't strong enough to keep up a conversation yet, his head aching. What danger was Rin in and why hadn't she told him? He was sure they were beyond keeping secrets at this point. He knew it was a lot to take in that he was courting a demon, honestly, he had been as shaken the day she kissed him. God his head was a mess, trying to process all of this information "What? What are you talking about? Is she…?" he trailed off anxiously.

Makoto grabbed his shoulders, giving him a harsh look. He was panicking which would only make him sick again. Causing her to become stern and become serious, babying him would only make matters worse. "Haruka, calm down. Rin is fine, I mean she isn't wounded. But she has been using her full power to protect the temple without sleep, without food and without recovery. Honestly, I was stunned she hadn't passed out, she looked so frail…" she explained. She was a very strong woman, which she admired greatly.

Haru felt his chest tighten like someone was squeezing his heart. She had been focusing her power on protecting him, putting herself at risk because she knew how much the temple mean to him, the memories they shared at this place. Was she stupid, crazy or both? Hell even for a demon she had weaknesses even if they were different. He had to see her, he had to make sure she is ok. She better be prepared to get her ear chewed off later on.

"I gave her some medicine, it helped her boost up again. But I'd say she only lasted this long because she's a demon. But honestly, I was more worried about the fact she was damaging herself because she believed she was invincible" she explained. She had always been a helpful and kind person, always supporting those in need. But she had been tempted to yell at Rin for being so stupid until she told her she was actually a demon.

Haru sat up weakly, not caring about possible consequences, he had to see her. He didn't care about his body, he didn't care about falling into relapse, he wanted to see her now. He would only feel worse if he laid here thinking about how she was pushing herself. He was still recovering, but he wasn't useless. Though he would be unable to use his powers for a while, he wasn't immobile. He would happily allow her to scold him, as long as he got to see her face again.

Makoto panicked, she had spent all this time helping him get better. If he overexerted himself he would only make himself feel worse and worry Rin even further. Though they had been friends for years, he had a tendency to cause problem's because of how bloody stubborn he was capable of being sometimes "Haruka you…" she trailed off. She still had trouble wondering what the hell was going through his mind sometimes.

Haruka gave her a stern look, she could argue about this with him later, but right now he had someone to see and somewhere to be "I have to see her Makoto. I'll get worse with worry if I don't, you know that" he snapped. How could she be so stubborn? She may have been doing this for him, but what about his feelings? Thinking about Rin about to pass out, her body limp and weak from pushing herself beyond her limits. Even she would be prone to attacks when her strength was decreased.

Makoto sighed, she knew she couldn't talk him out of this. She had grown up with him after all, when Haruka made a serious decision his mind was made up; you could never talk him out of it. But he still needed rest, after this he was going straight back to bed "I know, but just take it easy. If you feel like you are about to pass out. Rest, no arguments" she warned.

Haruka softened, but a warm smile came across his face. "Arigato Makoto, I mean it". He was glad she told him, he had been thinking about her non-stop. Now he knew why she hadn't visited because she had been keeping the temple safe in his place. He slowly and shakily got to his feet, his head still dizzy from the fever. Pacing towards the door, trying to keep himself from falling over and making an arse out of himself. Using the sides of the wall as a support to keep himself standing.

Rin sat atop the temple, scanning the area diligently. She could feel the sweat running down her back and temple, her body aching and screaming for rest. Even with Makoto's medicine, sleep and hunger were starting to get the better of her. Curse her damn stomach. The sun was beautiful, a big bright ball in the sky keeping her warm. She hoped the sun was helping Haruka feel better, giving him plenty of vitamins. She was tired, even with Makoto's medicine she was still weakened. It gave her stamina for a couple of hours at most, but it was not permanent, even Makoto herself was aware of this fact. Which is why she was so worried about her wellbeing. Aside from her late grandfather she had never had anyone worry about her so much. She knew Haruka cared, but he wasn't always great at showing it, which became frustrating.

He had better appreciate what she was doing, worrying her sick like this. God knows she was patient, but she wondered if Haruka thought being a priest with the power he had made him invincible. Yes, he was strong, but he was not invincible. She wished she could see him, all she got were updates from Makoto on his situation. She couldn't leave because of having to focus, despite the fact she longed to see him again. "Damn it, I miss him so much" she muttered. Despite the fact, she was in the same area as him, the same vicinity and he was only inside the home. She longed for him, she wished to be beside him but had to stay out here to keep his home safe.

She closed her eyes, hoping it would help her feel better. Her head ached so much, she knew after this would be down for a while. She was focusing on everything she had into this barrier. Just for safety precautions, she couldn't be too sure of what dangers would slip in. She breathed heavily, she had to remain strong. She had to keep going no matter how bad she felt about all this, because it was worth it for Haruka.

"Rin" a familiar voice called out, hoping she could hear him. God, she looked so pale, how long had she been protecting this temple. Even he took breaks with his abilities, how could she be so stupid? She looked like she was about to pass out at any second. He knew she did this because of her feelings for him, which made him both angry and yet happy at the same time, knowing how strong her loyalty to him was. How far she was willing to go for his sake.

Rin stiffened, her eyes snapping open. Her wings expanding into flight mode, her body automatically going into defence mode. Her red eyes glowing brightly, her breathing heavy. Her gaze looking around to make sure it really was him and not her mind making things up. Her heart skipped a beat, a lump appearing in her throat as she saw him approaching the temple. He was still pale, but there was colour again in his cheeks. He was walking slowly, he appeared to be better. But she was still scared this was a dream. "Haru?" she asked hesitantly. Her eyes started to sting with tears that threatened to fall down her cheeks.

Haru smiled weakly, he raised his arms slowly holding them out to her. Waiting for her to come to him patiently "Gomen Rin, I worried you so much. But it's ok now, I'm ok now" he reassured her. He knew this place was where she felt her happiest and her safest, he had been paying attention to her ever since she came to live with him. All her pet peeves, all her small quirks and interests, taking mental notes for future reference. All of them he came to love, find annoying or amusing.

Rin leapt from the temple, breaking the barrier but she didn't care. She didn't care about anything right now but him. She landed into his arms with a gentle thump, nearly knocking him over. Burying her nose in his chest, her arms wrapped around his neck. Her body now shaking as tears started to spill down her cheeks like a waterfall. "Thank god, I was so worried you idiot! If you felt so bad why didn't you let me kiss you?! You have me, don't you? Rely on me damn it!" she sobbed her voice cracking.

Haruka blushed, this was one of those few moments he had seen Rin cry since they started to live together. He was more than used to her passionate soul by now. He could never admit that her crying face was starting to give him a kink for it. She just looked so adorable he could eat her up. He wrapped his arms around her protectively, cupping the back of her head and stroking her back. She felt so frail and she had lost some weight, making him worry about the strain she had been under. He closed his eyes, simply wanting to enjoy the warmth of her body. He felt so calm, so safe. He could feel her energy flowing into him, starting to feel like himself again. He would allow her to curse him until the sun went down if it made her feel better. "Arigato Rin, this must have been hard on your body. Even for a demon, you have a weakness" he apologized.

Rin sniffed tearfully, wiping her eyes to look up at him. Her eyes were red from crying, a stubborn pout on her face which made her look cuter than ever. "You idiot Haruka, do you even understand my love by now? You really don't get girls, do you?" she grumbled. She knew the risks when she protected him, she knew the toll it would take on her. She knew all the dangers, the tension, the emotional strain etc. Loving a human would never be easy, she always knew that. But she didn't care, he was her everything.

Haru pouted defensively, she wasn't being fair here. She'd think since he was still in semi recovery she would go easy on him, but she was just hotheaded is all, she wore her heart on her sleeve. "You aren't like normal girls, you're a demon" he argued defensively, his tone apprehensive in case this made the situation worse. He had never had a girlfriend before, let alone one so loyal to him. There were a lot of new feelings he was getting used to. But what he did know was that he loved her.

Rin snorted and chuckled under her breath "That's true" she agreed. Feeling a little more refreshed, no longer crying but tear marks were on her face and her eyes were red. He was so warm, he still smelled like herself bringing her so much joy. She rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat from within. Falling deeper in love with him. She could stand here with him forever, time coming to a stand still and all she could think about was him.

Haru placed his hand on her cheek, stroking her face affectionately. Fingering the ends of her bangs, a tender look in his blue eyes. He really wanted to kiss her right now, she was just so cute right now and he really had missed her. Her sharp eyes that gleamed in the light, her soft lips, her slender hands always so soft, her warm cheeks, those majestic black wings that reminded him of the night sky. His cute little demon girlfriend, his own guardian angel.

Rin sensed he was thinking deeply about something, to which she placed her own hand over his supportively. Nuzzling against his hand affectionately as if by instinct, reassuring him in her own way. She loved him so much it hurt, she didn't know what she would do without him. "What is it Haru?" she asked gently, her maroon eyes patient. Waiting for him to answer, to open his heart to her and share whatever thoughts plagued his heart.

In a heartbeat, Haru leaned forward slowly without blinking. Capturing her soft lips in his own, he knew he was being aggressive here. But he really had missed her, he wanted to spoil her with affection, not just for her sake but for himself. She had become someone very precious to him. Rin blushed, surprised by his bold gesture. She wondered if he was taking energy from her, or if this was a romantic gesture. Either way, she was happy, she had missed this. Being with him, having him near. She closed her eyes, still holding his hand. Feeling as though she could reach inside of him and hug his soul.

Rin felt her cheeks reddening, not that she hated this situation but she was very embarrassed. She didn't really know how to feel, I mean she was still a teenager for crying out loud. This would bring on some very mixed emotions. When she touched Haru she acted out of instinct, following her emotions or doing what came naturally to her, but it seemed lately she was more flustered by his boldness, given he always wore the same calm and serious look. It sometimes felt like he was a completely different guy.

Haru had his arm around her protectively, the other rested underneath his pillow supporting him. The two of them rested inside his futon, wrapped up safe and warm. Holding her close to him but not speaking a word. His silent gaze peering into the oblivion, his mind elsewhere and yet completely focused on her, as if she would break or disappear if he so much as moved. He really did know how to make her feel loved, Haruka really had been changed because of her, knowing that made her feel a little flattered.

She had kissed Haruka, she was comfortable with that much. She would kiss him as many times as he wanted if he so asked. But physical intimacy was something she was getting used to, be it hugs or touching him in general. Hell, she was still a virgin for crying out loud. Yet here she was, laying in bed with him as if they were a married couple. God, she was both screaming with joy and freaking out with anxiety. He carried a musky scent of his own odour as well as sweat, his body was warm but not in an annoying way. His skin and hair were so soft, and god was he even more handsome up close. She could feel the rise and fall of his chest, the beat of his heart within his ribs, every gesture and every move he made. She felt closer to him in this moment above all others, it was probably the most intimate they had ever been.

"Rin," Haru asked abruptly, surprising her. Breaking the silence and the thoughts that had been rushing through her mind a mile a minute. Wondering if he was mad at her and she was going to be scolded for making him worry so much.

"Yes," she replied quickly, even she was taken aback by the panic in her tone. I mean hell they had been living with each other since they were kids, as adults a couple of months even. Why was she so freaked out? They were pretty much a couple. Makoto had accepted them as such and was even giving them romantic advice, she was acting like a sister in law by now. Hell, she shrugged off her new found knowledge that she wasn't even human.

He raised the other hand that wasn't holding her to finger her hair affectionately again, he loved her hair. So bright and soft, it matched her eyes which was one of his personal favourite things about her. "Does anything hurt? Are you dizzy? Do you have a fever too?" he questioned, his tone fast and concerned. She had been using her power for at least a week, with little to no food, rest or even a break. He was worried she was going to pass out in his arms. After this, it was his turn to nurse her back to health again.

Rin blushed, his genuine care and protectiveness of her made her blush. Internally she was screaming with joy, a total dream. But she was so flustered she couldn't really process her emotions very well. "I… um…no… I mean… I'm tired and my head hurts a little, but I'm ok" she babbled. There had been times she had been worried her body would give out. That she would pass out before Haru got better. But she pushed herself through and kept fighting because she refused to give in, she was too stubborn.

Haru gazed at her in silence, taking her all in. She wasn't as pale anymore which was a relief, but she would need a couple of days to rest like himself. But to make sure she didn't move, he would stay by her side just in case. He doubted she would argue very much. She was so cute when she was embarrassed, or crying, or angry, pretty much all the time. He didn't know why but whenever she showed a certain reaction to him, it turned him on. Which was not an emotion he had ever felt before, at least so strongly?

When she cried, be it from anger or sadness he had a strong urge to tease her or baby her. To spoil her, baby her and show dominance over her. He didn't know why but her crying face was incredibly cute and sometimes he wanted to kiss her. When she got angry, jealous or stubborn he wanted to ruffle her hair, pinch her nose or cheeks. Pretty much teasing her again but in a more childish manner which would only make her react even more strongly to the point, he wanted to laugh sometimes. It was fair to say he too had fallen for Rin, very hard. Back when they first met he found her to be a pain in the ass, but she had grown on him. Finding himself now unable to live alone like he once had. "Rin… you know I love you right".

Rin's reddened cheeks now darkened to nearly match her hair, small puffs of steam escaping her lips. Now unable to even make words due to the shock to her system, not used to how casual and mushy Haru was being. She could only nod shyly, responding to his question. This was possibly the most romantic moment of her life and she would treasure this memory forever. She prayed to Kami that nothing would ruin this perfect moment between them, or they would have hell to pay for doing so.

Haru smiled fondly, trying not to laugh at the expression on her face. He tightened his grip on her protectively, kissing her head lovingly. "Gomen, I know you don't like being teased but I can't help it". It was proven when someone had a crush on another person, or carried strong romantic feelings for them, teasing that person was just instinct. Because your affections for them made you playful, immature and cocky, it was complicated but a strong feeling indeed.

Rin pouted, he was enjoying this more than he should be. She would have to get him back for this later on. But they had both been through a lot, it was nice to relax and be able to have a little fun. Forgetting about their stresses and worries of the past couple of days, trying to get things back to normal again. "I love you too" she mumbled shyly, more than he knew. If anyone was to ever hurt her, it would be hell on earth.

A sleepy sigh escaped his lips, pulling the blanket closer over them. They both needed rest, it had been a long week for the two of them. He couldn't wait to fall asleep beside her, her body pressed against his own "Oyasumi, Rin". He only hoped their dreams were sweet, then again with Rin beside him, no demons or spirits would stand a chance of even trying to touch either of them. Sometimes dating a demon really did have its benefits.

Rin leaned her face against his body, her body relaxing as sleep started to get the better of her. He was a mischievous and sneaky flirt, but he was also deeply kind and protective over her. He made her feel like the luckiest demoness in the world, that she her wish of being with the man she loved was actually coming true. "Sweet dreams Haruka" she mumbled, allowing sleep to overcome her.
