I don't own Inuyasha or any of it's characters
When the rays of the sun touched down on the young Miko and her tiny companion, they were already preparing to break their fast. So used to rise with the sun while hunting down the jewel shards they were mostly unfazed by such an early rising. A gentle breeze and their easy chatter made for a peaceful morning. It was odd how quiet things were with the absence of Inuyasha's grumbling and the echoing slaps that immobilized Miroku, though they weren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Kagome took it upon herself to make sure she and Shippo freshened up before they ate. She gathered her backpack in her lap and withdrew the opened bottle of water from last night, a small rag that she used for bathing, and her bottle of body soap. She lathered a corner of the small rag with a drop of soap careful to keep the other corner soap free and called Shippo over. She had him gather his hands together and poured bottled water into the cup of his hands for him to rinse off his face. With his face now damp she took the wash rag and careful to avoid getting any soap in his eyes began to gently wipe the sleep from her kits face. When she was satisfied with Shippo's smudge free face she had him turn so she could manage his rat nest of hair.
She combed her fingers through his hair careful not to pull as she came across tangles. Shippo preened as she gently scraped her blunt fingers over his scalp before gathering his auburn locks into a dark green ribbon. Once her kit's needs were met, Kagome hastily washed her face and pulled her hair into a high ponytail. Content with their cleanliness Kagome began rolling up her sleeping bag while Shippo laid out the provisions that were set aside for their first meal.
With a small breakfast of a handful of berries and matching steaming cups of tea mother and son began readying themselves to resume their travels.
"We should make it to the well by nightfall if I'm not mistaken." Kagome said her arms raised towards the heavens and her back arched in a very feline like stretch.
"I wonder if anything new is going on in Edo. It's been a long time since we last seen Kaede-baba." Came the fox kits curious reply as his tail twitched at the prospect of a playing with the children that resided in old priestess' village.
Everything had been gathered and the fire had been doused but just as they were making to leave the clearing a grumbling of voices was heard.
'The same voices from last night…' Kagome shook her head at herself for not checking into the voices last night and prayed that they would be overlooked as the voices drew closer. To Kagome's misfortune she couldn't escape the draw she seemed to have on danger.
