"You could have gotten ANY job in Lima and you choose to be a freaking teacher at McKinley. You could have even gotten a job to be a prostitute!" Rachel said angrily.
"RACHEL!" Shelby shouted, "You will not talk to me like that and my decision is very final. I will be teaching at McKinley at Monday,"
"Like I give a shit," Rachel said.
"Rachel," Shelby warned, the teen was really testing her now.
"Shit you!" Rachel shouted.
Maybe it was because of the anger and the yelling, or the fact that Shelby really sucked at handling situations but it just happened. Shelby back slapped Rachel across her face. It felt like everything just stopped for that moment and things got silent, really silent. Shelby just stood there unable to move, think or speak. She knew she really screwed up this time. Slapping Rachel was definitely the worst possible thing she could have done. She was completely lost for thoughts, she needed to process her actions, but it just would not process. Rachel held her cheek and looked up at Shelby with angry eyes, knowing if she was given the opportunity, she surely would have slapped Shelby back, returning the favor, but that would just make things worse.
"Rachel," Shelby said breaking the silence, trying to reach out to her, but Rachel just moved back.
"Don't! Don't you dare. I hate you so much!" Rachel shouted infuriated. Before Shelby had time to react, Rachel grabbed her jacket and left the house, slamming the door behind her.
Rachel ran as fast as she could, running to the only place she could have gone. Her home. The place where she lived with her dads, where all her memories existed, also the place that she lived since her existence. Rachel knew there was the only place she could go right now, if she saw Shelby she might attack her and committing murder was not on her Things to Do List. -Besides, who was Shelby to lay a hand on Rachel? Rachel and her dads got into arguments all the time and they never hit her and who was Shelby? Shelby was nothing more than a selfish woman who only cared about herself and achieving her implausible perfect life, with this great idea that she and Rachel would soon share some fantastic out of this world mother daughter relationship. That relationship would never ever happen, because of many reasons and one of the major reasons being Shelby in Rachel's mind will always be that woman who carried her around for nine months and gave birth to her for enough money to start her life in New York and also to help two gay men start a family. Shelby was just a person that existed in her life and had neither significant meaning nor impact on her life.- Rachel arrived at her journey's end and took the spare key from under the mat and opened the door. She was welcomed by the familiar smell of her home.
There was no one there, the lights were off and not even a whisper or a creek could be heard in the house. It was pretty obvious the place was going to be like that .Her dads were dead and probably lying in some freezer in that place where you put dead bodies. What was it called again? A morgue. Her dads were in the morgue, which meant no returns, no coming back, no second chances, all that was left now, was a line between their date of birth and death, which signified their life. Other than the most obvious facts, Rachel was sort of used to the place being so quiet and deserted as her dads were always out on some sort of business trip.
Rachel turned on the lights and sat on the couch in the living room and just stared at the blank television. After about five minutes of killing the television with her eyes, Rachel knocked everything off the coffee table that was in front of her and began throwing the magazines all over the place, Rachel was just angry, but most importantly she missed her dads. As a result of her overpowering emotions, the coffee table and magazines had to bear her ire. Rachel continued to trash her living room until the couch cushions were on the stairs and at the door and the magazines were torn and thrown everywhere. The coffee table was overturned and received multiple kicks and punches from Rachel. When Rachel had enough, she sank to the ground and screamed and punched the coffee table as hard as she could.
After God knows how long, Rachel was lying on the floor falling asleep. She did not feel like walking or performing any form of movement so the floor was her bed tonight. She knew she was probably going to regret her decision in the morning, but that was the least of her worries.
Rachel got up and groaned, resenting sleeping on the floor. Rachel stared at the ceiling contemplating on whether to go to school or not. It was a question that pondered her mind for fifteen long minutes and at the end of her contemplation she came to the simple answer of today was a ditch day. Rachel made her way up to her room showered and changed.
Rachel made her way to the Lima Bean and just sat there staring outside while sipping a cup of coffee
"Hey," a woman said taking a next to Rachel.
Rachel just raised an eyebrow and watched the woman.
"Hi," Rachel said.
"Can I join you?" the woman asked.
"Sure, I guess," Rachel said hesitating, because the Lima Bean was practically empty, plus there were other seats available.
Rachel and the woman sat in silence as both of them drank their coffee.
"I'm Stacey," the woman said, breaking the silence.
"I'm Rachel," Rachel said.
"Aren't you supposed to be at school?" Stacey asked taking a sip of her coffee.
"What are you a cop?" Rachel asked.
"No, I'm not a cop, I'm a teacher," Stacey said.
Great, just great Rachel thought, she did not go to school to stay away from teachers and she was kind of having coffee with one.
"So why aren't you teaching?" Rachel asked.
"Why aren't you learning?" Stacey asked.
Rachel smiled a little and Stacey laughed a bit.
"Touché," Rachel said smiling.
"Everyone needs a break sometimes, not only you guys," Stacey said.
Rachel really liked Stacey, she really did, and even though they just met she just felt she could trust the woman. Rachel and Stacey enjoyed each others' company for about an hour until Stacey had to go. Before she left, Rachel got Stacey's number and was welcomed to call her anytime.
Rachel looked at the time and decided she should go to school. - So much for that whole ditch day plan, but on the Brightside, she missed home room and first period and like a quarter of second period.-
Rachel sighed and walked through the doors of McKinley, snuck into the auditorium and stayed there until lunch time, with one thing on her mind. Revenge.
