Ok, I just wanted to say I'm SOOOO sorry for not posting any chapters lately. Life has been fucking crazy over the past few months... Or something like that, I've lost track of the days -_- Anyway, I'm sorry, I hope you forgive me and here is the tenth chapter!
As always, thank you for reading!
-I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho or it's characters.-
I however DO own Sonya and Jinx as well as the plot. :D
~TL S0nya~
With a thud, Jinx and myself landed in an ungraceful heap on a rather hard marble floor, earning groans from the both of us while he untangled various body parts and sat up. "Where the hell are we?" She grumbled, looking over in my direction only to see my shoulders lift up in confusion as well. "Oh, fat lot of help you are." Slowly getting to her feet, she let out another pained groan, hands pressed against her back as she leaned to the side, popping the tight joints from our rough landing. Taking a leaf from her book, I stood and stretched out my back as well, finally taking the time to glance around the area with a small frown on my face, eyes landing on four familiar figures standing beside what looks like a desk with a small child sitting behind it. Reaching over, I tapped on Jinx's shoulder, calling her attention towards our welcoming committee, earning a slight growl from her.
"Alright, what one of you smart-asses thought it would be fun to dump us into a hole?" She snapped, marching towards the desk and planting her hands on the top of it, leaning over so she could glare at each of the boys in turn. "Well? Come on, out with it!" With a soft sigh, I walked up beside her and caught Kurama's eye, quickly signing an explanation to him. "Ah, well you see. It was Koenma's idea, and considering both of your... Protective natures, he thought it would be easier to just bring you here without warning." The redhead said with a small smile on his face, trying to diffuse the situation, eyes locked onto Jinx's face as he spoke. Glancing out of the corner of my eye, I watched her physically deflate and slump forward, letting her arms take her weight. "Right. Warning next time might be nice."
"Yes, well warning you might have prompted an attack, or you two running. And that would just defeat the purpous of surprising you, wouldn't it?" The young boy finally commented, speaking easily with the pacifier stuck in his mouth. Wait... Pacifier? Frowning slightly, I leaned forward and studied him closer, noting the eyes and vague memory that began to surface. "Yes, It was me in your apartment." He finally admitted, eyes practically twinkling in amusement at the scowl that crossed my face. "On to business. Do you know why you two are here?" He continued on easily, taking charge of the situation as he leaned back in the chair he sat on. "Any idea at all?"
'Because we picked a fight with those two?' I signed sarcastically, eyes narrowed in the direction of Hiei, earning a glare in return. Jinx snickered under her breath and shook her head. "No, not really. I still claim you kidnapped us for the fun of it." She added, shooting an irritated glare at the four boys standing beside the desk. Hiei snorted and stalked off away from the group, situating himself beside a wall and leaning back, red eyes closing in an obvious display of dislike for whatever Koenma had to say. "What I have to say isn't easy, so I might as well come out and say it. You two are unique in more than one way. Your spirit energy is off the charts, and considering your recent attack, it might be best to put you under protection until you two can take care of yourselves."
Jinx and I gaped at the boy, unable to think of what to say first. Finally, she shook her head sharply and folded her arms across her chest firmly. "No." Koenma raised an eyebrow at her denial, amusement flashing across his expression before vanishing behind the professional, bland one he usually wore. "There's no question. You two will be put under the protection of these four boys. My most trusted spirit detectives in fact. They'll be sure you two will be trained, and protected." He said, his voice taking on a final tone. "Your home is too open, and for the next three months, you'll be situated at Genkai's." With that, he waved a hand at the group gathered around him, dismissing us without another word as he turned to the papers piled in a dangerous stack on the desk beside him. With a soft sigh, Kurama turned to the group of boys with him. "Come on then." Yuske and Kurabara turned and headed towards the door, talking quietly to each other while Kurama herded Jinx and myself behind them. "This is what we get for trying to make friends." Jinx muttered in irritation, choosing for the moment not to fight with Kurama as he lead the way, Hiei bringing up the rear with that usual, sullen expression plastered across his face.
Glancing over my shoulder at the shorter demon, I narrowed my eyes at him. Don't think I forgot our little issue, Pyro. I still want to finish it. I hissed in my head, knowing full well he was listening to my thoughts, as well as Jinx's probably. His red eyes flicked up and locked onto mine, irritation crackling in the air between us before he snorted softly and brushed past the three of us. "I'm not going to deal with him for three months, Sonya. I'll stab him in the face with that fancy knife of his before we finish." Jinx muttered under her breath, a similar glare aimed at the back of his spiky head.
"We are NOT walking up those stairs." Jinx gasped out, both of us standing side by side as she stared up at the massive set of steps in front of us. It seemed they went up for miles, stretching on and on. "Genkai's temple is at the top." Kurama said idly, amusement coloring his voice slightly as he stood beside us, hands clasped behind his back. "Isn't there like, Oh I don't know, a train, or maybe an escalator to the top or something? There is no way we'll make it up there." Turning to look at me, Jinx blinked her wide eyes at my amused expression then over to Kurama's that mirrored mine. "Ok, so I won't make it up there. I don't exercise much!" She snapped, finally irritated enough to fold her arms over her chest, the straps of her pack digging into her shoulders as she did. 'Come on you lazy thing, we'd best get climbing.' I grinned, flicking my hands about before reaching over and tugging on her arm. In all honesty, I wanted to meet this famous Genkai. From what the boy's told us, she was perfect to talk to about my... Ability.
Frowning to myself, I started up the steps, hands clutching the straps of my bag while I walked. In truth I had lied to the boys when I said it was the first time I healed with cold. It was all I healed with, I don't know why I told them it wasn't. Glancing over my shoulder, I watched as Kurama and Jinx spoke to each other a few steps behind me, Yuske and Kurabara bringing up the rear and a certain fire hazard conveniently missing for once. Turning back forward, I kept climbing up, immersed completely in my thoughts until a gentle nudge at the back of my mind alerted me of a now-familiar connection. What on earth could you want this time, Pyro?
Hn. Was all I got in response, earning a scowl from me as I glanced up at the trees, fully expecting to spot his red eyes only to come up with leaves, leaves and more leaves. Where the hell are you anyway?
Genkai's if you must know. Even his voice was surly in my head. The man obviously didn't know any other expression or tone of voice other than bored. He must live a very singular life to go through it with two emotions all of it. As if that is any of your business, Woman. He snapped, making me silently curse myself for forgetting the fact he was in my head at the moment. Staying silent for the moment, I focused on the steps in front of me, unwilling to look up and see how far, or rather, how short of a way we had come. Reaching out mentally, I tentatively explored the faint bond I had recently began to notice whenever the demon connected with me. How long has it been?
His sudden question caught me off guard, making my lips twist slightly in a frown of confusion. How long as what been, Pyro? I could just feel the fact he hated asking anything, but it was obvious he wanted to know the answer. That much could be told with the pause between his answer and my question. When did you notice the psychic connection? He finally asked, obvious irritation lacing his mind/voice, nearly overshadowing honest curiosity that made me grin into thin air. I don't know, it just sorta happened really. I might have noticed it from the start and just didn't know what it was until now.
"Hey, what are you grinning at?" Yuske's voice broke through Hiei's and mine's conversation, causing my head to twist sharply to the side in surprise. Blinking my eyes owlishly at his grin, I scowl, knowing full well that he knew and only asked to embarrass me. Shaking my head, I turned back to the front and picked up the pace, trying to put some distance between myself and the detective. Really, how do you deal with that face all the time?
It isn't easy. Hiei's voice was faintly amused, earning a shocked blink from my end. But before I could ask him anything else, the slight pressure vanished from my head, leaving me alone with my thoughts again as we finished the climb up to the temple.
"Ah! Ha.. Haaa.." Jinx gasped behind me as we reached the top of the steps, her knees dropping to the ground as she tried to gain her breath. Without stopping once, we climbed up to the temple in twenty minutes flat. It didn't help the fact that I kept picking up the pace to try and put distance between myself and Yuske as he continually popped up beside me to ask random questions poised to cause an embarrassed reaction of some sort. Grinning brightly, I crouched down beside her, a hand gently patting on Jinx's back as she attempted to regain composure. "I'm... Haaa... I'm ok. I swea-" She cut herself off and simply shook her head mutely, refusing to waste any air she sucked in on talking.
Glancing over at Kurama, I flashed him a wry smile while standing on my feet once more. "Ah, about time you showed up, I was beginning to wonder if you'd even bother to." A woman's voice called out from the direction of the temple, causing several heads to turn in her direction. "Hey grandma!" Yuske called cheerfully, hands tucked into his pockets as he stood off to the side slightly, a bright grin on his face as he glanced around the area. "Haven't bothered redecorating yet?"
"Shut up you dimwit. I'm talking to the two girls with you." The old woman snapped, obviously not caring to mince words as she made her way in our direction, eyes focused on the two of us before stopping a few feet away. "Get up off the ground, you'll never get stronger if you keep letting yourself be overwhelmed." She admonished Jinx, tapping her on the side of the leg with her cane, then turned her attention to me, scrutinizing silently before turning away. "Show them to their rooms, Dimwit. Then bring them directly into the dojo." She called over her shoulder, a cigarette magically appearing in her hand as she walked off and vanished back into the temple without another word.
