Chapter 10

"Sophie! What did you do! Did you give him too much!"

"I don't know what happened! He shouldn't be reacting this badly to it!"

As Lamroot and his daughter were arguing about what should be happening; both Vegeta and Goku were making an effort to get to Gohan and release themselves from the bonds holding them captive. They knew why Gohan was reacting so badly to the serum; and Goku was contemplating whether or not he should tell them. He was never good at this type of thing. He then realized that Gohan's safety was most important, and opened his mouth to speak.

"The boy isn't a full saiyan you imbeciles!" yelled Vegeta before Goku even had a chance to.

The look on the two doctors faces terrified Goku. It was one of pure terror.

"Is the boy… part human?" asked Sophie hesitantly. She knew full well the implications that could follow if that was true.

"Yes!" yelled Goku. "Now let me go! I need to get to my son!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. He was powering up, but the more he powered up, the more drained he felt. Vegeta struggled as well; his curses drowned out by the screaming of everyone in the room. Gohan began to scream even louder than before, and all attention was turned to him. Then, the screaming ceased and Gohan went silent.

The room was tense as everyone stopped talking and turned to look at the boy. Goku's heart beat loudly in his chest, this was NOT happening. His son, the son that had been through many battles in his life, who had come out victorious, and who had gone out of his way to make everyone happy, would not go out like this!

"He went into cardiac arrest!" yelled Lamroot. "Get the stabilizer! Stat!"

Vegeta pulled on his bonds uselessly, trying to lift his head. "You fools! He doesn't need that!" he yelled, genuinely worried about the safety of the boy. "Behind his ear! All saiyans have a pressure point to get themselves out of that state!"

The scientists scurried to the half-saiyan and poked the area behind his ear with an unloaded needle. Gohan immediately jerked awake and thrust himself up, forgetting where he was. He looked around, confused for a moment, and feeling unusually drained. He looked around and remembered his current state all too well. He looked at his left to his father, who looked up at his son with cautious eyes. "Gohan…" he started. "Are you… okay?"

Gohan lazily opened his mouth to respond before it all went black. For the second time. Today. "Gohan!" yelled Goku, out of worry. He wanted to lift his son up, to comfort him, to make an effort fix the way things ended up, and to make up for missing seven years of his son's life. But, he knew his efforts to get to his son were futile, as were his plans for making everything alright. Things were NOT alright, and he knew that he had to wrap his mind around that idea.

When Gohan awoke again, the only thing he felt was hunger. Insane hunger. His insides felt as if they were caving in on themselves because there was nothing to hold them up. He blinked a few times to allow for light, before looking around at the room. The scene was the same as before, apart from the fact that the scientists were missing. Gohan looked to his left and made a double take, his dad was missing too. He looked to his right tentatively, and saw Vegeta there looking up at the wall.

He seemed to be in a daze; the usually keen saiyan didn't even notice Gohan waking up. "Vegeta?" asked Gohan, to get the prince's attention.

It seemed to work, because Vegeta immediately came back to his senses and stared at Gohan in that tactical and analytical way he always did. "Brat, I see you are finally awake."

"Mm-hmmm" replied Gohan. "How long was I out?"

"Three days." Vegeta replied evenly.

"Three days! What!"

"Don't complain, Brat! It is a miracle that you are even awake now. It usually takes a saiyan about a week to recuperate from hariko. "

"Hariko?" Gohan repeated, the word sounding strange on his tongue.

"It is almost the equivalent of what humans would call 'shock'." He began. "It happens when a saiyans body doesn't know how to react, so it shuts itself down in order to figure out what happened."

"What did happen?" Gohan asked confused, all he remembered was blacking out.

"Those damn scientists gave you a poison serum for saiyans. It should've killed you." Vegeta informed him.

"How… how did the scientists get it?" Gohan asked, now more confused than ever.

"I've been trying to figure that out!" Vegeta yelled, then mumbled a few curse words. Gohan looked at the saiyan, then saw that he had numerous, fresh cuts and bruises. Gohan gasped.

"Where is my dad?!"

"He's with the scientists; they're probably running some tests or something. Brat, just calm down, Kakarot can take care of himself. Besides, what does a human stand against a saiyan?"

"I don't know, you tell me," he said accusingly, eying the injuries that lined the prince's arms. The prince saw his line of sight and scoffed.

"These are nothing but minor cuts and bruises," he said as he rolled his eyes.

"How did you get them?" Gohan asked after a short pause.

"None of your b-" Vegeta started to say, before he was stopped by the sound of Goku being dragged into the room. He pushed and squirmed, trying to get out of the scientist's hands, but to no avail. Gohan could sense his father's ki, and it was dangerously low, lower than the average human. Goku muttered some uncharacteristic words as the scientist's guards strapped him down on the examining table.

One of the guards looked around the room and smirked when he noticed that the half-saiyan was awake. Gohan shot him a look, but quickly turned his attention back to his father.

"Hey look! It's awake!" the guard who noticed Gohan yelled enthusiastically while gesturing to the half-saiyan strapped to the examining table. "Lamroot will be really happy!" The guard left to fetch the scientist. Gohan ignored his jibes as he looked directly at his father. Goku hadn't said a word, but was staring at his son in terror.

"Dad, are… are you okay?" he asked nervously.

"I should be asking you that," Goku said quietly. Something in his father had changed, he seemed a bit quieter, more timid. His expression was guarded, which was very uncharacteristic of the man who was known for wearing his heart on his sleeve. "Gohan, I'm sorry. I… I didn't protect you."

Gohan was extremely confused. "What do you mean?" he asked, worried about his father's mental state.

"You didn't notice? Look down, at your leg." Gohan slowly peered at the limb, afraid of what he might see. It was facing a strange direction, and the more he looked at it, the more pain he felt. For some reason, his mind didn't register the injury until he saw it with his own eyes. The human brain is a tricky thing, he of all people knew that. His eyes widened as the pain became somewhat excruciating and he sucked in his breath.

"Kakarot! You fool! The boy didn't even notice!" he chastised him, but quieted down as Lamroot entered the room.

Looking at his leg gave Gohan a sense of panic. His breathing sped up as his heart beat rapidly. It hurt. A lot. "How… how did that happen?" he asked, swallowing.
