Next chapter...
"There, all ready." Caroline said as she tied Katerina's back strings. She had just finished her morning routine with Katerina and now all she was thinking about was making a reply letter to Bonnie. She was so happy to hear from her and all she wanted was to see her as well as Bonnie did with her.
"Thank you Caroline." Katerina stated emotionless. She turned around to face Caroline. "And how am I looking today?"
Caroline looked at her. "Stunning as always Ms. Petrova." She replied, not actually lying. Katerina was beautiful but she was just so bitchy that it took all the charm away.
"Very well, then—let's be off for breakfast." Katerina said while walking towards the door, waiting for Caroline to open it.
"Uh—if it's alright with you, I would very much prefer to skip breakfast this morning." She told her as she opened the door. Katerina walked out with a confused look.
"And why is that?" She asked.
"I'm not hungry and I wouldn't want to just be there for the Lord's to make me eat." She lied. She didn't want Katerina to know about the letter exchange, she might take that away from her as well. She also didn't want to see Klaus, not after last night and their couple encounters. Katerina took sometime to think about it. She softly smiled, knowing that Caroline wouldn't be there to steal all the attention for once.
"That's alright Caroline." She responded surprising Caroline. She was going to question it but she just didn't want to change her luck.
"Thank you Ms Petrova." Caroline said before going towards her own bedroom. She quickly went inside as she collected some paper and a feather with ink to begin her letter.
"Good morning my lords—Klaus." Katerina greeted as she entered the dining room without Caroline's company. Kol quickly furrowed his eyebrows as well as Elijah and Klaus.
"And where is Caroline, you trollop?" Kol questioned as he stood up. "If you-"
"Don't worry Lord Kol." Katerina interrupted. "She wanted to skip breakfast this morning, I didn't forbid it to her as you might think."
"And why is that?" Klaus asked. Kol and Elijah smirked looking at Klaus knowing that he was dying to see the beautiful blonde. Then they turned to look at Katerina, waiting for the answer.
"She wasn't hungry, so she went to her bedroom." She replied as one of the maids came placing a plate of food in front of her. Klaus dropped his sight; he knew that she wanted to avoid him. That was all to it—he had ruined whatever he had with Caroline by that kiss he shared with her last night. Even though he didn't regret it, he just wished he would have thought about his actions before doing them.
"I'll go check on her." Kol said before leaving the room without letting anyone else speak. Klaus licked his lips as he took a sip of his beverage laced with blood.
Kol knocked on Caroline's door before opening it. He didn't really wait for her approval since he knew he was always welcomed inside her bedroom. Just when he entered he found her sitting down next to her side table with a feather pen in hand and her sight trained into a piece of paper.
"So this is why you decided to skip breakfast." Kol pointed out, bringing her out of her train of thought. She softly smiled as his presence. "And here i thought you were already sick of us." He teased.
"I had to find the correct time to write a letter to Bonnie." She replied, looking back at her paper. "Breakfast was my big break, I guess." She added.
"Would you fancy some food anyways? Just to keep the ideas flowing?" He asked with a goofy grin. Caroline chuckled before nodding.
"I would love that. Thank you." She responded. Kol smiled at her before leaving her room. He used his vamp speed to get to the dining room quicker than normal.
"Angelica, bring me a tray of fruits and a glass of water for Caroline." He ordered, spotting the maid just placing a plate in front of Elijah. She quickly nodded before going towards the kitchen.
"She decided to eat now?" Katerina asked, placing a slice of watermelon inside her mouth.
"Yes—you know I wouldn't let her without eating breakfast. I'm not as cruel and vindictive person as you are you trollop." He replied shutting her up once more. He grinned to that. Angelica then came in with what Kol ordered, handing it to him. "Thank you."
"Your welcome my lord." She responded before going back to her duties.
"Kol!" Klaus called out as he stood up from his chair. "Can I take that to her?" He asked. Katerina made a confused look.
"Why would you want to take it to her?" She asked standing up as well. Elijah felt left out since he was the only one sitting so he decided to stand up as well.
"Because I need to discuss somethings with her." Klaus replied grabbing the tray from Kol's hands.
"No!" She protested, crossing her arms against her chest. "Don't you fall into her attention too Klaus!" She whined.
"Shut it you sloven, you don't have a say in it. If a lord wants to do something he can, and you are no one to suggest otherwise. So sit and enjoy your food." Kol ordered with a stern voice, making her eyes widen and scared.
"A-alright." She stuttered as she obliged to his command. Klaus smirked as he left the room but not before hearing Kol's whisper.
"Try and not to sleep with her." Kol teased, making Klaus growl under his breath. Yeah, he would pretty much love to do that but he knew he couldn't. Not after how she reacted with their kiss last night—he knew that she felt something as well, he wasn't a fool, but because of her loyal heart, she couldn't have something with him.
He was near her room just when he saw her come out with a white envelope in her hand. She suddenly stopped at the sight of him. "Good morning Caroline—I brought you your breakfast." He said showing her the tray. Caroline licked her lips as she took a bow.
"Good morning my Lord. No thank you, I'm not hungry." She responded before passing by him. She kept walking trying to avoid the footsteps she heard behind her. She arrived at the sitting room, taking a seat to wait and see if her brother would show up today.
"Caroline, love—you have to eat." He said, placing the tray on the table in front of her. Caroline looked towards the door. Trying to avoid his intense stare.
"I already said that I am not hungry my lord." She replied while shaking her head. Klaus took a seat next to her.
"You are hungry." He stated as an observation. Caroline turned to look at him.
"And now you know when I'm hungry or not?" She questioned with a scoff. Klaus knew that if she was any other maid, he would have fired her for that but since Caroline was nothing like the other maids, he let is pass.
"I do know that Kol came into the dining room asking for a breakfast tray for you." He answered instead. She made a thinking face before looking at him.
"And why exactly were you the one to bring the tray to me? Did something happen to Kol?" She asked.
"I wanted to bring the tray to you." He replied. "I noticed you weren't in the dining room as usual and I couldn't help but think that it was my fault for it. I don't want you to stop eating just to avoid me." He added. Caroline tensed beside him as she heard him say 'avoid'. She didn't really think that she was that easy to read for him to know why she skipped breakfast. Well, it wasn't all him.
"I did not skip breakfast because of you my lord." She replied staring at the envelope in her hands. "I was actually writing a letter to my best friend." Klaus looked at her.
"Oh." He expressed. "I'm sorry—I thought it was because of me and what happened-"
"Don't." She interrupted. "I want to forget that incident—it's not a good memory and I suggest you do the same my lord."
"Caroline, you might think it was something horrid but I actually think it was the best kiss I have ever had." He revealed staring at her as her eyes met his. They stared at each other like if it was a staring contest, neither one of them wanting to look some place else.
"Caroline-" Elizabeth interrupted. "My lord." Caroline jumped, a little startled. She couldn't believe she was so lost in his eyes that she didn't notice Elizabeth's presence.
"Yes Elizabeth?" Klaus asked in an irritated tone. He was making progress with her and now it was ruined.
"Um-Matthew Forbes is outside asking to see Caroline." She replied, looking uncomfortable under Klaus' glare.
Caroline stood up quickly, not giving Klaus time to tell Elizabeth that Matt has permission or not to enter his mansion. She just rushed outside, attacking her big brother with a tight hug as her eyes watered once more. She loved him so much, just for coming back to see her again.
"Matty!" She exclaimed.
"Carebear, glad to see you." He replied, hugging her back. He couldn't have enough from her hugs. Once when they parted, is was then that Caroline noticed the blond women that was standing beside Matt. She had a clue of who she was. "Caroline, this is Lexi, my wife and future mother of my children." He introduced. "Lexi, this is my sister Caroline."
Caroline's face only brightened more as she hugged her sister-in-law. Lexi laughed at her enthusiasm.
"Its nice to finally meet the infamous Caroline haunting my husband's dreams." She replied with a huge grin. Caroline giggled. "You should have seen my surprise when he told me about you after I had thought he was cheating on me with a girl named Caroline." She added with a slight blush.
"I'm sorry if I was every a problem." She apologized with an uneasy smile. Lexi waved her hand.
"It's fine—but I am very sorry that you were separated from Matt and your family at such young age." She said with a soft look. Caroline softly smiled.
"I'm fine, I am more than happy now that I have you both in my life and the new comer as well." She replied, looking at her stomach. Lexi laced her fingers with Matt's as she leaned towards him.
"We are happy as well Carebear." Matt said as his attention went to the person behind Caroline. "Oh, good morning my lord." He greeted. "Thank you once more for bringing me to Caroline."
"No need to thank me mate, it was a pleasure." Klaus answered as he walked a little closer to them. Caroline had her eyes wide open in shock at the new revelation. So, Klaus was her knight and shining armor that invited Matt to the Ball. She was surprised to say the least but thankful nonetheless.
"My lord." Lexi greeted as well.
"Lord Klaus, my brother Matt and his wife Lexi." Caroline introduced. "But you knew that." She added in a low whisper.
"Good morning." He replied. "Should we take this inside, grab some tea?" He suggested. Caroline turned to give him a look that he did not like.
"Of course, that sounds lovely." Lexi replied as she and Matt made their way inside. Caroline stayed behind with Klaus.
"Please tell me you aren't going to stay?" She asked in a pleading way. Klaus slightly chuckled.
"Only if you don't want me to be there." He answered. Caroline shook her head.
"I would really like the time alone with my family." She replied looking at the door where Matt and Lexi had just entered.
"I understand but first-" That brought Caroline's attention. "-can you promise me a talk afterwards."
"We have already discussed everything we needed to discuss my lord." She replied. "Their is nothing else that we can possibly talk about."
"Wouldn't you like to know my reasons on why I searched for your brother?" He asked, arching an eyebrow in questioning.
Oh boy did she want to know. She had been thinking any possible reason on why he would do such thing but nothing came up. "No." She denied.
"Very well then, I hope you don't mind me by staying. I sure would like to get to know your brother." He replied before he started to walk towards the door. Caroline sighed knowing she would regret this later.
"Alright." She called out. Klaus stopped and then he turned to look at her with a smirk.
"Alright, what?" He asked. Caroline rolled her eyes.
"Alright, I agree to have a talk with you later." She responded. Klaus smiled—genuinely smiled before entering the mansion. Caroline let out a shaky breath as she followed along. When she entered she noticed that Klaus was not there and that Lexi and Matt had tea already in front of them.
"Sorry for the wait. I just had to speak with the lord." She apologized as she took a seat in front of them.
"He seems awfully nice—contradicting to the rumors that go along the village." Lexi said with a grin. Caroline stared at her confused—she had heard that he was cruel and evil but he was nothing like that.
"Like what?" She had to ask. Lexi made a thinking face before Matt interrupted.
"He treats his staff terrible." He said. She thought about it, and he treats his staff fair, not great but not bad.
"He is always angry." Lexi added. "He is cruel with people—he knows how to run the village but he isn't that pleasant to be around with."
"Really?" Caroline's comment came more as a surprise then a question.
"Yes." Lexi replied. "But we have noticed he is nothing that way—well from what I saw."
"Me too—he found me and brought me to you and I think that if he was that awful he would have never got into that much trouble just to find me." Matt stated, making a point.
"I am still surprised by that good deed he made. I didn't know he was looking for you." Caroline told Matt. "I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this action."
"Did you talk of me to Katerina?" Matt asked.
"No, she didn't know I had more family." She answered. "I actually talked to lord Niklaus about you and how much I wanted to see you. Maybe that is the reason he sought you out." She half lied.
"It's strange that the lord would go to those lengths just to bring Matthew here." Lexi commented. "But its a good strange, that he found you and you found him."
"I am grateful for that." Caroline replied with a soft smile playing on her lips. She was truly happy to see Matt and his wife.
"You should have seen Matt the day before our wedding." Lexi began as Matt tensed. Caroline looked intrigued so she continued. "He was so anxious and nervous, I tried to do everything to calm him down." She looked at her husband. "He didn't calm down one bit, he was just saying that he wanted his sister by his side. He need his sister to be fine—he wanted his sister to be the one to tell him that everything would be okay." She added. Caroline's bottom lips trembled as a tear fell from her eye just as well as Matt.
"I was almost afraid that he would postpone the wedding just until he found you to be there." Lexi added.
"Oh, how I wish I could have been there." Caroline sobbed. In that moment Kol entered the sitting room as he heard Caroline cry.
"What is wrong?" He asked. Caroline quickly looked up at Kol with a small smile.
"Nothing. Just reminiscing the times I was not with my brother." She replied as another sob came. Kol rushed towards her before Matt did, bringing her for a hug.
"Are you two making her feel bad for being absent for most of your life?" He asked, glaring at Lexi and Matt for making her cry. Caroline shook her head, getting out of his embrace.
"Its fine Kol, we were just talking and it came up on how much I was loved my brother and how much he missed me." Caroline said staring at Matt with loving eyes. He stood up and then he sat next to Caroline bringing her in for a hug.
"I love you too, and I missed you like crazy." He commented. "I'm just glad Lord Niklaus found me before my child was born." He expressed.
"Me too." She cried on his shoulder. Lexi couldn't stop smiling at the heart felt moment developing in front of her. It was truly beautiful seeing them together, that she was almost upset with herself that she had to interrupt.
"Matt." Lexi called out softly. He looked up to meet his wife's eyes. "I'm so sorry for intruding but we have to go to my parents home as well." She added.
"Oh right." Matt replied pulling back. "I'm sorry Carebear, I have to leave."
"It's alright, this visit was absolutely perfect." She said with her bright smile, which made Matt smile. They stood up and then they walked towards the door. "Promise you'll come back?" She asked Matt. He smiled before pulling her in for another hug.
"I promise." He replied. "Take care, I love you."
"I will and I love you too." She said before pulling back and going towards Lexi, giving her a hug. "It was so nice to meet you."
"Likewise." Lexi stated with a small smile. Caroline then remembered about her letter, taking it out.
"Matty, can you give this to Bon?" She asked, handing the letter to him.
"Of course, anything for my Carebear." He replied. "Bye." He said before leaving the mansion while holding his wife's hand. Caroline let out a few tears fall—they were happy tears, so it wasn't bad.
"Are you alright Care?" Kol asked behind her. She turned around as she nodded.
"More than alright—I feel great!" She expressed following with a giggle. "I have a family Kol! I can finally say that I have a family!" She exclaimed running up to him to give him a hug. Kol chuckled at that, stroking her hair.
"Even if you hadn't found him, I would have been your family and you know that." He told her, sincerely. Caroline smiled against his shoulder.
"And I love you for that." She said without thinking. As she felt him tense, she knew she had screwed up with her statement. She pulled back as her cheeks began to redden. "I-I mean, you know—well when you are-"
Kol began to laugh as she rambled. He just pulled her for another hug, shutting her up. "I love you too Care." He paused for a second. "Or should I say, Carebear?" He teased. Caroline giggled, pulling back.
"No—only Matty is allowed to call me that." She replied. "You made up a new name all by yourself."
"Ok, Care—bear." He replied with a teasing smile.
"Kol!" She exclaimed before she fell into a fit of giggles. She was sure happy to have Kol by her side in this god forsaken mansion.
"Alright, alright, I will only call you Care." He replied raising his hands in defeat. She smiled at him in gratitude.
"Thank you." She said to him.
"You are very welcome." He replied while bowing, making her laugh once again.
"No—I mean I am really thankful that you are in my life." She cleared out.
"Me too." He added, giving her another hug.
Klaus' jaw clenched as he heard their whole conversation. From his reputation all the way until the little sweet moment between Caroline and Kol. He can't understand how Kol got more points with Caroline without even trying.
He was the one that Caroline decided to spill her guts out too, not Kol. But somehow, she began to love him, and care for him in a way he was sure she would never care for him. He slammed his fist on the table, trying to subside his anger towards Kol.
He was so smooth with her, he didn't have to think twice before talking to her. Not like him—he now has to think twice before he says or does something that she might hate him for. For example, the kiss they shared last night, was a total 'no no' for the situation. She was so loyal that it infuriated him—if it were anyone else, the girl would have already shagged him, not thinking twice.
But that was the thing, Caroline was different and that is what he liked about her. She proved everyone wrong, she was loyal, hard-working, passionate and...broken, just like him or less than him.
He pinched the bridge of his nose—he didn't want to think about people and being broken. He used his vampire hearing to see if Kol and Caroline were still talking in the sitting room. He heard nothing which meant that Caroline must be in her bedroom or with Katerina.
He would much prefer for her to be in her bedroom, than with the wench. He slowly stood up and he walked away, towards Caroline's room. During his way, he thought of what he would say, just to make sure that it wouldn't be something stupid. He will greet her, tell her his reasons for finding her brother, and then try to make her talk to him normally, just like she talks with Kol or her brother Matt.
He stood in front of her door before gently knocking on it. It took her a few seconds to open the door. She sighed as she saw him, but he just smirked, trying to mask his real emotions.
"Good afternoon, love." He greeted, passing by her and going into her room. Caroline tried to steady her breath and her quickening heart. She felt nervous to be alone with him—the only thing she has to do is keep distance and she will survive the whole encounter.
"Good afternoon my lord." She replied, closing the door. She turned around to find him sitting on her bed, feeling really comfortable with himself. She decided to stand next to the wall.
"So, I know you have some questions." He began. "I will answer them all, with all honesty."
Caroline crossed her arms against her chest. "How did you find my brother? And why?" She questioned. Klaus' smirk widened.
"See now that is a simple question. I felt the need to be in your good graces, that was all." He answered. "As for the how—well let's just say that there are many perks on being the Lord."
"In my good graces?" She sounded confused. "But you found my brother before last night?"
"Yes-" He nodded in comprehension. "Was I not in you bad side before last night?" He asked. Caroline shook her head.
"You are now—but why would you think you were before last night?" He looked hurt at her response but he quickly shook it off.
"Because of the night I left you." He replied. "I had left you alone and without comfort when you needed it the most." He added. After a second he continued. "Am I really in your bad graces?"
Caroline softly chuckled at that. Was he actually worried because of it? "I already told you that I was fine." She decided to answer. "You were in no need to actually comfort me, so its fine I guess."
"Alright—now can you share why I am not in your good graces? What have I done?" I have a pretty good picture. He added in his mind. Caroline stared at him with an incredulous look before her lips broke into a smile. Well, at least she is smiling and not shooing him out of her room. He thought of the bright side.
"You know all too well what you did my lord." She responded as she looked away. The memory filled her mind at that minute. Klaus quickly stood up, making his way to her. Caroline didn't even notice his action until he was in front of her, cupping her face with his hands.
"Going with what I feel makes me the bad guy?" He softly asked, staring between her eyes and her lips. Caroline dropped her gaze as she made her way out of his grip.
"No—but you should at least warn a lady." She replied, knowing that he was actually the bad guy for kissing her. Klaus chuckled, making her smile for some reason.
"Well, if by grabbing you around the waist and staring deep into your eyes isn't any indication of wanting to kiss you than I don't know what is." He defended while showing off his dimpled smile. Caroline turned around to see him, and quickly regretted it. She swallowed the lump in her throat as she watched Klaus go near her.
"Maybe you have to announce that you are kissing me before that actual kiss." She suggested , almost in a flirting way, which caught her and Klaus off guard. Klaus quirked his eyebrow at her as she took a step back.
"I'll take that under consideration—although I do personally love the way you looked when I surprised you with a kiss." He said as he touched her cheek ever so softly. "The look of surprise and total satisfaction." He whispered as he moved a little bit more closer to her. "It was almost as if you also wanted the kiss but never expected it to happen." He added. Her breath hitched as he grabbed her by the waist. "Caroline Forbes, I want to kiss you." He stated before capturing her lips in a slow but sensual kiss. Caroline moaned into it as her hands went up to his neck.
She was in a total fog; she knew this was wrong but she still kissed back because that was what she wanted. She almost laughed when she heard him announce that he wanted to kiss her, but was quickly rid of that thought once his lips were on hers.
They kissed for a while longer until Caroline felt his tongue inside her mouth and she began to panic. She quickly pulled away from him and she turned around. Her lips were swollen from the long kiss that she secretly loved.
"I want to be alone." She whispered as her eyes began to tear up. What was she thinking by kissing him would do? She would never have him as she wants, and it is better to forget about the whole idea before it gets out of hand.
"Pardon?" He asked, a little confused by her sudden cold shoulder. She turned around to look at him, with her hand over her lips and her eyes red.
"Leave, please just leave." She pleaded walking pass him, and talking a seat on her bed. Klaus didn't pay attention, he just stood their looking at her.
"Caroline—you can't put the blame on me now." He said trying to reason with her—to let her know that she also feels the same just like him. She looked him dead in the eye.
"I know, it is also my fault but please my lord, leave! Please, just-" She choked on her words as she began to cry. "P-please." She stuttered. Klaus stared at her for a while longer before he pressed his lips and he left the room. It was then that Caroline allowed herself to fully cry her eyes out as she curled into a ball on her bed. She couldn't believe that she fell under his charm once again. She couldn't keep doing this—she couldn't keep hurting herself like this.
"Hello!" Bonnie smiled brightly as she spotted Matt and Lexi on the other side of her door. "Come in, come in!" Matt shook his head.
"No need Bon—I just came to give you this." He said, handing her a white envelope. Her eyes widened as she took the letter in her hands.
"Is this—is this-" She stammered as her eyes began to water. Matt nodded.
"Yes—its from Caroline. She was so happy at having your letter than you could ever imagine Bon." Matt added. Bonnie smiled, a single tear dropping from her eye as she remembered something from the past with Caroline. "We will leave you to read it, good evening Bon."
"Good evening." She replied before shutting the door and going towards the nearest candle to her. She mumbled some words as the candle lit all by itself. She then opened the letter with anticipation. It read:
Bon,
I write back to tell you that I am fine, not great but fine. I miss you so much that you have no idea. Once I had received your letter I couldn't believe that I had something of Bonnie's in my hand; it was something truly amazing. And don't be too quick to judge Bon, I don't have that much luck with men.
Although I did share a kiss with one just yesterday night, at the Ball. Bon, I think or much I believe that I am falling in love with the guy. If you could only meet him, he is amazing, he is handsome, tall muscular and not to mention a little complicated. He is sweet towards me, and I don't know I must have started a liking towards him for it. I could only wish to talk to you in person to tell you the rest of the glory details, which aren't pretty.
As for your comment of living a pretty good life, I hate to tell you this but it hasn't been all roses for me. The family I work with weren't bad, it was my designated master, the problem. She just doesn't let me be me, or have a life. I was only in a Ball because I live at the mansion right now, since the Lord Niklaus has taken a liking towards my master, Katerina.
I have so much more to tell you, please come by to the Lord's mansion whenever you want. Come with Matty or alone, I just want to see you, hug you and talk to you. I am in need a friend, a very good friend that is a girl. I have too many guy friends...just to clear it out, they are only friends, Bon. I can only imagine your teasing smile, which I hope you are still playful from what I remember. I know we haven't been in each other's lives for that much, and you might have changed but I can guarantee that I am the same, well as the same as I can be.
Please consider my invitation, I really do hope to see you.
With lots of Love,
Carebear
Bonnie was laughing and tearing up. "Typical Caroline." She commented as she closed the letter. "Let's just hope you are the same when I see you." She said to herself before blowing out the candle. She was anxious for it to be tomorrow, she was going to see Caroline with or without Matt. It has been too long since she has seen her best friend for her wait more time.
A/N: What do you guys think? Kind of exciting or not? The sacrifice is getting very near, so buckle up for a bumpy ride my friends!
Do you guys have any ideas of what I can do with the sacrifice? Do you want me to sacrifice Katerina or make her escape and do the whole future thing?
