Klaus was sitting in his study, drinking out of the bottle...again.
It had been two months since his family left him and it had been two months that he has drunk himself through the day. He desperately wanted them back but he couldn't build himself enough courage to go and bring them back into his life. As always, his pride always got the better of him, even though he does regret letting them go.
Emily had said that she would visit but he knew it was all just false promises. She hasn't come nor has she called to explain. Klaus knew all too well how it was going to be. Caroline hates him, that he is sure of, but Alex...Alex hates him with a soaring passion and he would never allow his sister to get close to him. He's a Mikaelson and that is just how they deal with their anger. That's why Klaus doesn't put the fault on his little girl.
"Nik!" Rebekah busted through the doors, phone in hand. Her demeanor was horrific. It seemed like she had just gotten the worse news ever and Klaus feared to know what news she comes bearing with.
"What?" He replied nonchalantly as he took another drink. She stopped right in front of his desk.
"It's Caroline." She stated. Her eye sight fell before she looked him straight in the eyes. "She was bitten by one of your hybrids."
Klaus' breath shortened as he clenched his jaw. He closed his eyes for a brief second before he placed the bottle of bourbon down. "Where is she?" He whispered, not moving his sight from his desk.
"In Seattle." Rebekah answered. "She has had the bite for a whole day now." Klaus pressed his lips as he threw the bottle across the room, smashing it on the wall.
"Why am I just knowing of this?!" He yelled out. "Her life is in danger and you think that at her almost definite death, that is the perfect amount of time before telling me what the hell is happening?!"
"Nik, I did not know of this! Emily just called me, begging for help. Caroline had been hiding the bite from them."
"Oh, now they wish to acknowledge my existence?" Klaus chuckled. "Only because I can solve their problems. Once I give her my blood they will all turn their heads and see me as the enemy again."
"Nik, it isn't just solving a problem! It is saving the life of the women you love. Even your son asked for your help, which is a lot to come from him." She defended. "You better get your bloody arse up and help her, or so help...I will never let you see your children." She got closer to his desk. "And Nik, an eternity is a very long time without seeing your own flesh and blood."
He licked his lips before standing up. "I'll be in Seattle."
"No." She stopped him. "We will be in Seattle."
"I do not care, let's just go." He stated as he walked away. Rebekah followed, hoping they wouldn't be too late.
The Night Before
"And like always, be careful please." Caroline told her kids as they were walking towards the door.
"Mom, how many times have we gone to a bonfire in the woods without getting into any trouble." Alex replied.
"We are great liars." Emily added with a shrug.
"And great at compelling." He commented as they shared a laugh. "But seriously mom, we are fine and there is nothing to worry about."
"Alright, you can go now." They both went to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "You are my babies and even though you might be over 400 years old, I still worry for you. I want nothing bad happening to my precious babies."
"Mom, we are vampires, son and daughter of Caroline Forbes and…" He flinched. "Even though it pains me to say it, also son and daughter of Niklaus Mikaelson. The most feared vampire in the world."
"You are right. Someone would be insane to pick a fight with the descendants of Niklaus." Caroline acknowledged. She breathed out before she smiled at her children. "I love you and I'll be waiting for you to return, ok?"
"Yes, mom. We love you too." Alex replied before they said goodbye and they left. Caroline still felt something was wrong, she didn't feel that her children were safe. She doesn't know why, but she has that mom feeling.
She had already cleaned her room, cleaned her kid's rooms and every other room in the house. She even cleaned the areas you wouldn't even think to clean. She grabbed a glass of wine and she took a sip as she watched the clock.
It read 12:30. It was midnight but not even close to the time that her kids come back from a bonfire. She didn't know why but she felt that something was wrong.
"Maybe if I go and just check up on them, they won't notice." She told herself. She drank the rest of her wine and then she grabbed her car keys and purse. She walked outside, locking her door behind her as she heard something. She quickly turned around, checking her surroundings. Caroline pulled a strand of hair behind her ear so that she could hear better.
"Hello?" She called out. "Is anyone out there?" She walked slowly towards her car, still looking around. She didn't see anything nor did she hear anything else. "I must be going crazy." She told herself.
"That I think I can agree." She heard someone say behind her. Caroline furrowed her eyebrows as she turned to be met face to face with someone she did not know.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"Someone who has some bones to pick with you and your loved one."
"My loved one? I am not involved with anyone." She replied while shaking her head. "You have me mistaken with someone else."
"Oh I am certain that you are Caroline Mikaelson and you are married to Niklaus Mikaelson." He stated. Caroline was now confused; who was this guy? She crossed her arms against her chest.
"I'm his former wife, we haven't been together for over 100 years." She stated. "Now, please answer me, who are you and how do you know my name and the man I used to be with?"
"I'm Chase, a close friend of someone that knows very much about your family." He began to explain. "Someone that wants some revenge."
"Revenge?" Caroline asked. "Who is this person?"
"Cue me in." Another voice was heard. Caroline turned to see a young woman, she held her hands in the pockets of her jacket as she approached her.
"Ok, I am very confused right now." Caroline stated. "In my 500 years in this world, I have never seen neither one of your faces."
"We have never met, that I can tell you." She responded. "But you did get to meet my boyfriend, Tyler."
Caroline furrowed her eyebrows as she stared at the woman. "Tyler?"
"Yes, Tyler."
"I don't know any Tyler." She said.
"Are you sure?" She questioned. "Because he told me that you two were once very close."
Then that's when Caroline knew. "The only Tyler I know is Tyler Lockwood and he is long gone."
"That's when you're mistaken, Tyler became a vampire."
"He what!?"
"It wasn't his choice; he was turned by Mikael." She explained. "But that's not the point."
"Who are you then?" Caroline interrupted. She stared at her before giving out a small grin.
"I'm Hayley, girlfriend of Tyler." She replied. "And I am very protective of him. Your husband did a lot to us and I need my revenge."
"He is not my husband." Caroline clarified. "He hasn't been for a long time and I would appreciate it if you could stop saying that he is. Klaus isn't the man I used to love and I cannot be counted for the things he does now. I have no say in what he does and why he does it. He just does what he wants."
Hayley flashed towards Caroline, showing her golden eyes and the veins that came with it. Caroline had never seen anything like this before. Well, just with one other person and that was Klaus.
Caroline gasped. That must mean he did it. He got what he wanted now. "You're a hybrid, just like Nik." She whispered, calling Klaus by his nickname without even noticing.
"I was turned by that monster! Now, all I want to do is just be at his beck and call and I can't deal with it anymore! I am sired to him, like if I owed him something." She stated. "Tyler tried to help me, he tried to fight Klaus off, but it was no use. Klaus knocked him out and then he came for me and he forced his blood to me, right before twisting my neck."
"Right after I awoke, I drank some more blood, broke every bone in my body and then I turned. I'm now half vampire, half wolf. And Tyler? Well, I have no idea where he is."
"I'm so-"
"I don't need your pity." She interrupted. "All I need is my revenge. I need Klaus to feel how I felt."
Caroline began to take some steps back from her. She was dangerous; a woman in love is always more powerful than any other. "I have many years on you. Are you sure you want to pick a fight with me?"
Hayley giggled. "I don't need to pick a fight to win this battle." She let her fangs show, flashing towards Caroline once again. Caroline dodged her attempt, grabbing her by the shoulders and throwing her across her front yard. Chase found that it was time to step in. He came to Caroline, sternly grabbing her by the wrist.
"I'm a highly trained fighter with my hybrid abilities, I don't think it would be wise of you to try and fight me." He whispered near her ear. Caroline closed her eyes as she took in various breaths.
"I have nothing to do with Klaus." She began to say. "He isn't even in love with me anymore. He made me leave him and the last time we saw each other all we did was fight. Why pick someone that will not even make him flinch?"
"You think he doesn't love you?" Hayley asked as she got up and she began to walk towards them. She punched Caroline in the gut. "I heard him say he does, he told Tyler. I wouldn't be making this trip if I knew it would do nothing to that monster." Hayley grabbed Caroline's hair, pulling her up so that she could see her. "He will pay and I am sorry that you are in the middle of this."
"Go to hell." Caroline spat out.
"Oh, honey. I'm already living in it." Hayley replied before she pierced her fangs into Caroline's neck. "This will be a long and painful death for you." She added. "Bye, bye."
Chase let her fall to the ground as Hayley laughed. They soon left her, not wanting to be seen by anyone else.
Caroline cried as she touched her neck. She knew what this meant, Klaus had told her many times to stay away from wolves. Their bite kills a vampire and now it was time for her demise. How sad it is for her to die like this, knowing that it had nothing to do with her, but because of her past with Klaus, she was the one thrown into the fire. She thought she would be safe now that she was away from him, but now she knows that she was never safe. She was always in danger.
The good thing that came out of this is that her kids were unharmed and that it was her that got the bite.
She slowly stood up and she went inside her house. She looked in the mirror, seeing how the bite looked. It was normal, nothing out of the ordinary. She felt fine, no pain yet.
"Good morning mom." Alex greeted, peeping his head into her room. "It is unusual to see you in bed at this hour. Is something wrong?"
"I just went to sleep at a late hour. I'll be up in a bit." She replied. Alex nodded his head as he left her room. Caroline got up and just as she got up, she went back down. She felt dizzy, just like if she was pregnant again. She tried it again, getting all the way up this time. She went into her bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror again. The bite had gotten bigger and a lot bloodier. It seemed like it was rotting her skin all around. Her face was pale, more though than usual.
She washed her face and then she applied some make up, just to hide her paleness. She then went to grab a bigger shirt that would cover up that hideous bite mark. She doesn't want her kids to worry.
She hopes that her day just goes by as usual. She will treat her kids the best that she can and then she will say her goodbyes.
As the day progressed, her bite grew bigger and her sickness became worse. Her kids had gone out with some friends so she felt good about that. They won't have to see her this weak.
"Caroline?" She heard his voice. "Oh my sweet Caroline. What has come of you?"
"Daddy?" Caroline called out as she turned around. She came face to face with her dad. This was not possible. He was dead. "How are you alive?"
"What has happened to you, ladybug?" He asked. Caroline ran towards him, giving him a great big hug as she began to cry.
"I'm dying daddy. I don't know what to do." She told him.
"I know honey. Those mean wolves attacked you when you were alone and I'm sorry for not being there to protect you. But sweetie, you can just end it all right now." He told her.
"What?" Caroline whispered as she pulled away.
"Yes, just drive a stake right through your cold dead heart and end your suffering."
"I-I don't want to kill myself."
"Here." Her dad handed her a stake. "Just do it and then we can be together."
"No. I-"
"Caroline listen to me." He stated more demanding. She closed her eyes as she pushed him away.
"No!" She yelled.
"Mom!" She heard her kids yell.
"What the bloody hell?" Alex commented. "What in the world is going on?"
"Why do you have a stake in your hands?" Emily asked as tears began to grow.
"Were you planning on killing yourself?" Alex asked. Caroline kept looking at the stake. "What's wrong with you?" He noticed her demeanor. She was cold and pale, as she kept sweating.
"I'm fine. I'm fine." She recited before she flashed away.
"I thought vampires couldn't get sick." Emily commented. Alex turned to look at her with a worried expression.
"They don't." He replied. "I'm calling uncle Kol. He might know what it going on." He took out his phone quickly dialing his uncle's phone.
"What's up mate?" He answered.
"Uncle Kol, we have a problem." Alex began. "Mom is acting strange. She looks sick."
"Sick as in petty human sickness?"
"Yes."
"Alexander, does your mother have a bite, that looks nasty and sickening?"
"Not that I know of."
"Well, check! If she does, then she has been bitten by a werewolf and has a limited amount of time before she dies. Alex, if she does have it, call your father. He is the only one and I mean the ONLY one that can save her."
"Alright." He replied, not too fond with having to call his father. "I'll go check up on mom."
"I'll get the next flight to Seattle, ok?"
"Yes, I'll see you later." And then he hung up. He looked at his sister.
"I'm on it." She said before she flashed away. She went to her mom's room, just to find her pacing back and forth.
"Mom?" She stopped and then she turned to look at her daughter.
"Oh hi Ms. Petrova. I was just about to go to you." She said as she curtsied.
"Mom, it's me Emily." She took a step towards her.
"I am better than you, you harlot!" Caroline yelled, flashing towards her. She grabbed her daughter's shoulders as hard as she could, throwing her across the room.
"MOM!" She cried out. Alex quickly entered the room.
"Nik, what are you doing here?" She questioned, looking deep into her son's eyes.
"I want you back Caroline. I need you back."
Caroline hugged him as she cried. "I want you back too. I love you so much!" Alex was taken aback by what he just heard. He just hugged her back as he examined his mother. He tugged at her shirt, revealing the big bite mark. His eyes got watery at the thought of losing his mother. He gently pushed her away, looking at her.
"Alex?" She asked.
"Mom, you are not ok." He told her. "You were bitten by a werewolf."
"I know my baby boy." She stated, letting tears fall from her eyes.
"You need to lay down." He encouraged. Caroline nodded as she walked towards her bed, getting in and covering herself.
"I'm hungry, so hungry."
"I'll bring you a blood bag." He flashed away and then he came back with two blood bags. "Emily could you give them to her, I need to get something else."
"Actually, can I get that something else?" She seemed like she was afraid.
"I know that you are going to call your father." Caroline stated almost with no strength. "Please don't."
"We need to mom." Alex said.
"I don't care, I'm calling him." Emily added before she took out her phone and she called her dad. The call went directly to voicemail. She made a confused look before she tried her aunt Bekah's phone.
"Hello?"
"Thank goodness, aunt Bekah! We need my father's help." She urged.
"With what honey? What happened?"
"My mom, she is sick. She has a werewolf bite and it has her weak. I think she has had it since last night because she was fine until today."
"Werewolf bite! How did this happen? Was she alone? Did she pick a fight with a werewolf!?"
"Aunt Bekah we don't know, we just need my dad's help."
"Honey I don't know; he is not himself."
Alex took the phone away from Emily. "Aunt Bekah, tell him that we beg him for help. Uncle Kol told me that he was our only hope. I don't want to lose my mother. Please!" He begged.
"I'll make sure to put his arse in the next flight to Seattle." And with that she hung up.
Caroline began to cough furiously as she threw up the blood that she just had consumed.
"She is worse than I thought." Alex commented.
Klaus just followed Rebekah in since he had never seen Caroline's present house. He felt so worried, his dead heart beat going crazy on him.
"Kids?" Rebekah called out. Emily flashed downstairs, embracing her in a tight hug.
"Thank you for coming. She's in her bedroom." She said. Klaus looked at her daughter, wanting to give her a hug but knew it wasn't appropriate. He just followed along.
"They're here." Emily announced. Alex got up from sitting right next to his mom to allow Klaus to go next to her.
"Caroline?" Klaus called out. She was laying down, eyes closed, barely breathing. He hated himself for not being with her to protect her.
"She hasn't talked to us in the past hour." Alex added.
"Well, she is still alive. That I'm sure of." Klaus replied. He bit into his wrist before placing himself right next to her. He gently grabbed her, pulling her up and placing his wrist right in front of her mouth. "Go on sweetheart. Have at it." Caroline latched onto his wrist, drinking in his sweet blood. Her eyes turned red as her veins began to show under her eyes. She closed them letting Klaus' blood do its work on her infected wound.
Once she was healed, she let go, letting herself fall onto Klaus. "Thank you." She whispered.
"Anything for you Caroline." He replied as he began to get out of her bed. "Now, if you can please provide me with the pleasantry of knowing who the bloody hell did this to you?" Caroline sat up as she bit her lower lip.
"They were two, their names are Hayley and Chase." She replied. "They told me that they wanted revenge because you made Tyler disappear."
"Where is he?" She then asked. Klaus paced back and forth; he wasn't sure what he will do but for sure, he will make them pay.
"None of your concern sweetheart." He answered. Caroline furrowed her brows but she decided to let it go. She was tired and she just didn't want to fight with Klaus, at least not right now.
"Now, I have done what I needed to do, I think it is time for me to go. Take care and whenever you need me, you know where to contact me." He said as he began to walk out.
"Dad?" Klaus stopped walking as he slowly turned around. Did he hear correctly? "I would like to help you with making those monsters pay for what they did to my mother."
"No, Alex you can't." Caroline stated. "I do not want you in that business."
"I will not let this go unpunished!" He groaned.
"You are certainly your father's blood." Rebekah commented. Alex almost grinned at what his aunt said; he knew that, he has Mikaelson blood running through his system and there is no denying it.
"I would..." Klaus cleared his throat. "...like that Alexander." They both walked out, talking about ways to torture and how to find them.
"I don't know if I should be happy or worried." Kol commented as he entered Caroline's bedroom. "I just saw Nik and Alex speaking of torturing some poor folks."
"I am definitely worried but I am also glad that he is opening up to Klaus." Caroline stated. "I want them to be in good terms and it was just better for him to do it on his own then for me to nag him to do it."
"That is smart to do with us Mikaelsons." Rebekah added as she chuckled.
A/N: I'm so sorry that I took so long to actually update. I started college and it has been very hectic for me. I barely even got some time to finish this chapter. Please give me the feeback of this chapter and I think the next one will definitely be the last for this story so yeah. Thank you for sticking around and thank you for reviewing!
