Chapter 10: Best Uncle in the World

"I don't know how you do it, bro," Jesse said, falling onto the couch next to his brother. Wade chuckled, picking up his bottle of beer.

"Zoe, mostly Zoe. But it's not all hard until they start to grow up and you have to deal with all the teenage stuff," Wade sighed, leaning back. "I thought you would have a bunch of them by now," Wade commented.

Jesse sighed picking at the label that was on his bottle of beer. "So did I. But we've been trying and after the first miscarriage it's just hard, ya know?" Jesse told him. "I want to be a father, you make it look simple," Jesse smirked, casting a look at his brother. "We're doing everything we can. But I have this feeling that Amelia is afraid to get pregnant again because of the miscarriage. I've suggested we could just adopt but she's so damn adamant about having her own child, I just don't know what else to do."

"Did you sit down and talk to her about this? I can see that it's hard on you. Losing a kid the way you guys did is hard for everyone. It put a strain on your marriage and you were able to get that back. It's going to take time and you need to talk to her. See a therapist. You can't rush her back into this whole thing, Jesse."

"I know that, and it's been nearly two years now. Maybe I'm not meant to be a father. I'll just be the best Uncle in the world."

"It'll happen for ya," Wade commented, sipping on his beer. It hated seeing his brother so upset about this situation.

"Uncle Jesse!" Autumn and Emma squealed in unison seeing their uncle in the living room. Jesse smiled pulling the girls into a huge hug. For now the pain of wanting to be a father was pushed to the side replaced with happiness seeing his nieces and nephews. For now that feeling was enough to keep a smile plastered on his face.

"My girls," Jesse replied, "look how big you two have gotten."

"Well duh, it's been forever since we've seen you," Emma retorted with a smile.

"I'll have to work on that," he chuckled. He looked down to see that on each one of his legs a little boy was wrapped tight. He was able to pry them off one at a time and hug them spinning in circles making them laugh. "Why don't the four of you come hang with the best Uncle ever in Mobile at the arcade and we'll get a bite to eat before coming home."

"Can we Dad? Pretty please?" Emma asked.

"Yeah, can we Dad?" Jesse asked, holding his smile back and giving a pout. Wade rolled his eyes.

"Emma, Autumn help your clown of an Uncle keep an eye on the boys," Wade replied.

"We will," Autumn agreed, rushing to the door with everyone else.

Wade finished his beer before getting to the long list of things that needed to be fixed around the house.

Zoe had just finished a check up on her last patient for the afternoon when Brick stepped into her office. Zoe gave the older man a smile, closing the file on her desk. "What can I do for you Brick?"

"Why don't you go on home. I can handle the last of the patients for the day. If anything serious comes up I can always call you," he suggested. Zoe smiled, standing up from her desk.

"That's nice of you Brick," Zoe commented, collecting her things.

"I'm just going to need you in early tomorrow morning," Brick told her, going back to his own office. Zoe sighed, shaking her head, knowing there was a catch to him letting her go this early in the afternoon.

Zoe got home hearing Wade cursing from upstairs. Upon entering the playroom Zoe laughed seeing the pile of toys that surrounded her husband. "What are you doing?" Zoe asked, leaning against the door jam. She laughed harder seeing the few toys that went flying through the air.

"Ouch," Wade cried, rubbing his head from where one had hit him. "What are you doing home so early?" Wade asked, looking around the pile of toys.

"Brick let me go, because I need to be in early tomorrow," Zoe told him, sitting on the floor to help him go through the toys. Wade pointed out what piles were what.

"But I've gotta open the Rammer Jammer tomorrow. We both can't go into work early. Someone needs to stay home with the kids and get them off to school in the morning," Wade sighed.

"Speaking of the kids, what did you do with them?"

"Jesse showed up and took them to Mobile for a fun filled day. I think he's trying to fill the void of not having any kids of his own yet, using our kids."

"They do love him. Maybe he can stay long enough in the morning to take them to school and drop them off at school for us. Like you said, they love him and he loves them. They really need to stop putting so much pressure on having a kid. It'll happen for them. Look at us. None of our kids were planned and the one time we tried to plan to have a kid it just didn't happen. They need to relax and just enjoy their time together," Zoe commented, tossing a few toys that were no longer played with in the donation box.

"I agree with you there and can we now stop talking about my brother's sex life. It's starting to creep me out," Wade stated. "I'll talk to him when he gets back with the kids. I just hope he doesn't give them a shit load of candy and sugar and make them sick to their stomach's like he did the last time he was in town visiting them."

"I'm going to hurt him if he does that. It took months to get the candy sick smell out of the bedrooms. I think there is still a stain in this room from that night as well, because someone thought it was better to cover it up instead of scrubbing it out of the carpet." Wade picked a toy up and tossed it at his wife for making such an accusation. Gasping Zoe picked a toy up and threw it at Wade. And that led them into having a fight with the soft toys in the room. They stopped when they heard laughter coming from the door way.

"I thought you were suppose to stop playing with toys when you grew up," Lavon commented.

"Mock all you want, Lavon. We're having fun," Zoe told him sticking her tongue out at him.

"Real mature, Doc," Wade commented, kissing her forehead. "You need something?" Wade asked, looking up at his friend.

"Wondering if you wanted to go fishing. But I see that you're busy." Wade looked over at Zoe.

"Go, I can clean this up. It goes faster when you're not around," Zoe joked, pushing him towards Lavon.

"You sure?" Wade asked. Zoe nodded, kissing him, giving him another shove. "Okay, I get it, you don't have to kick me out," he joked, heading out the door with Lavon.
