Chapter 10
Cas had never seen it before. But then again, he'd never driven normally from the barn to the hospital. It was a little music shop on the corner. There was a poster in the window saying "Buy your copy of Panic! at the Disco's new album 'Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die'" So, Cas did.
Though it seemed a lifetime ago, The Panickers' concert was a little more than a week ago. Cas smiled at the memory and prayed he never forgot it. He finished his drive to the hospital and made his way to Dean's room. He brought in his laptop as speakers. When he reached Dean's room, Cas saw how bad he was. His eyes were currently closed and his faced revealed how much pain he was in.
"Hey, Dean. I have something you might like" Cas said as he turned on his laptop. Without opening his eyes Dean smiled saying "I hope it's you without clothes on" Cas rolled his eyes. "No, but it might remind you of that" Cas pressed play and soft beats filled the room.
Cas laid down next to Dean, getting as close as possible. "Who is this?" Dean asked, looking at Cas. "Panic! at the Disco. They're the main band that the Panickers did covers of" Cas explained. Dean nodded. "I like them. The singer has a good voice" he said. Cas smiled.
When the third song came on, Cas sat up as he recognized it. "This is Vegas Lights!" Cas exclaimed. Dean started to sit up but the pain got the best of him. "This was the closing song of..." Dean started but was interrupted by uncontrollable coughs.
Cas quickly grabbed some water and held it up for Dean. It was waved away and Dean said "Grab the trash" Cas jumped up and grabbed the said can. Dean then puked up his lunch. "Have you kept anything down today?" Cas asked as Dean rinsed out his mouth. Silently, Dean shook his head no. "I'm going to grab a doctor and see if he can do something" Cas said. Dean grabbed his wrist. "Stay, please" Dean begged. Cas nodded and returned to his place on the bed.
They talked quietly while listening to the CD. Dean quietly mumbled "Can I ask you to do something?" ""Anything, love" Cas said. "Can you bury me next to Mom?" Dean asked. This shocked Cas. Dean had only mentioned his mother once or twice.
"How about we don't worry about quite yet" Cas said trying to believe he had more time then he really did. "I'm sorry Cas. But I need it said. I don't know how much longer I'm going to be here and I really want to be next to her." Dean said. Cas nodded and stated "I- I promise it will happen" Dean closed his eyes and nodded. If you want the truth, Dean could feel Death. He had a feeling that tomorrow, he would be dead.
Dean felt his body starting to shut down as one of the last songs started. He listened hard but couldn't make out the words. He felt Cas's tears dripping onto his shoulder though. Cas was silently crying because the lyrics that Dean couldn't hear.
"Far too young to die" the lead singer sang. Cas's ears were not only listening to the beats of the song, but the beats on Dean's heart monitor. The beats that were continuously slowing. Cas tried not to listen to them. He tried to avoid Dean's slowing breathes. Suddenly Dean whispered "I love you and Sam, forever."
Cas couldn't hold back anymore. He let his tears flow as the heart monitor showed a flat line.

Sam was ready to leave. One more class and he could go see Dean. He watched the clock as the minute hand took its sweet sweet time going from 2:30 to 3:00. Though he was offered to skip, he needed to keep his promise to Dean.
"Sam? Mrs. Bartos wants you" his math teacher said. Confused, Sam grabbed his books and went out to the hallway. There stood his principal and Jess. Sam suddenly knew what was about to be said.
"I'm so sorry, Sam, but Dean passed away about an half an hour ago." Books hit the floor and Sam wasn't far behind. He was on his knees, crying. Jess wrapped her arms around him and held him close. "It's ok, Sam. How about you get home?" Jess cooed. Sam nodded and let Jess lead him out.
Mrs. Moore drove them back to the Winchester house and let them have some room. Up in Sam's room, the couple sat on the bed. Jess was holding Sam and tried comforting him. "It's okay, Sam. It'll be okay" she found herself repeating. But she wasn't sure if it would be.

The wake took place a week after Dean's death. Cas wasn't sure exactly how he got from the hospital bed to sitting in a room with people he really didn't know. Luckily, Sam would whisper names as they came up. But one person he knew and was happy who came was Gabriel.
The short man came up and hugged his cousin tight. "I'm so sorry, Cassie... Did he ever tell you the truth?" Gabriel asked. Cas nodded. "The truth of our relationship? Yes. We were together again for about 3 months" Gabriel gave him as sad smile. "I'm happy he did. I personally didn't think it would help"
"I happy he did too. But it still hurts like hell" Cas whispered and bit back tears. Gabriel gave him another hug. "I know. I wish I could do something to help." Cas gave his cousin a small smile. "I'm happy you came all the way from Phoenix for this. It means a lot" "I would never miss it." Gabriel simply stated. Cas nodded with a small smile.
Suddenly, a man and a woman came up to the cousins. Cas didn't know them and Sam was over by Bobby. It shocked him when Gabriel stood up and said "Get out. Now" Cas looked at the older couple and made a sudden realization. These were his parents.
"We have every right to be here as you" Mr. Novak said. "No you don't! You never liked Dean. In fact you always complained about him to my dad. So why are you here?" Gabriel snapped. "Gabriel, how about you go talk to Sam? I can handle this" Cas whispered. With one last glare to the Novaks, Gabriel left.
"Thank you Castiel" Mrs. Novak said "We have something we would like to discuss with you." Cas nodded and motioned for them to be seated. "First thing though" Cas stated "I don't remember you. There was an accident where I worked and I lost a lot of my memory." His parents were shocked.
"Then maybe that will either help your future or destroy it" Mr. Novak said. "We would like to offer you place back home. We both believe God gave Dean the cancer so you could have this chance." Cas was shocked. Part of him screamed 'Say yes! Say yes!" but he knew what was needed to be done.
"God didn't give Dean the cancer. A freak change in genetics did. If God did do this... Well I have a hard time believing he did. There is no way a good God would willing take away a man like Dean Winchester. If anything, God gave him a few extra months to help me. So, the answer for your proposal... is a fuck no" Cas stood up and motioned to the door. "You may leave if you wish or silently pay your respects"
The Novak couple stood up and walked out. With a new sense of confidence within himself, he went deeper into the room. He approached the casket slowly. His hands were shaking and he knelt down next to Dean. He look so at peace. There was a small smile on his face... like he died happy. "Hope you did" Cas whispered silently.
At the actual funeral the next day, everyone cried, even the manly Bobby. But how couldn't you cry for a man like Dean Winchester? When the casket was lowered into the grave next to Mary, Cas and Sam had to sit down next to each other because neither could support their own weight.
After a few words from the family, Sam let Cas have some time alone with the newly made grave. Cas just stood there silently, every tear possible already shed. Then silently he whispered "Why?" He had no idea who he was talking to. Maybe to Dean, to himself, or maybe even God. But all he knew was that there was no answer.
