Dana couldn't believe her eyes.
He wasn't supposed to be here.
Matter of fact, he was supposed to be dead. Instead there he was, standing a good ten or fifteen yards in front of her, leaning against a tree as if he didn't have a care in the world. His dark blonde was tousled, probably from the wind, and his blue-gray eyes held a certain spark of hatred. The last time she had seen him he had been pale, and frail to the point of barely being able to move. His life had been hanging on by a thread.
"Daniel…" She murmured, head tilting to the side. Her throat tightened, the need to say more ever so present. But if Daniel was here then they were too. And if they were here then she wouldn't stand a chance against the whole lot of them, no matter how well trained she was. She wasn't even sure if she could survive with the help of Kol. If he would have even provided any sort of help to her.
So she did what any sensible vampire would do. She sped off, barely avoiding the extra arrow that Daniel had somehow been able to launch her way. Her feet found their way through the woods, going back the way her and Kol had come.
Speaking of Kol, it didn't take him too long to catch up to her.
Kol latched onto her wrist, bringing the vampire girl to a complete halt much to her annoyance. "Who was that?"
"Let go," Dana demanded, jerking her wrist away from the Original's hand, while giving him a hard shove away from her.
Kol suddenly had his hand wrapped around Dana's throat, pushing her back against a tree. "Do you want me to kill you?"
Dana's eyes narrowed into tiny slits as she spat out, "Go ahead. You'd be doing them a favor."
Her words seemed to peak Kol's interest as his grip on her throat loosened and she slid down the tree so that her feet touched the ground. "Them?"
Dana pushed him away again, ignoring the daggers his eyes were shooting her way as she stalked off. "Yes them. I'll explain later. We should go for now. If they're here then it's not safe." She grumbled before the two vampires sped back off again, one curious, and the other wondering what was going to happen now.
"Who are you?" were the very first words out of Rebekah's mouth when Kol and Dana arrived at the Mikaelson home. The blonde Original had just gotten home and it hadn't been long after that a gleeful looking Kol and a strange looking vampire girl had come charging in.
"An unfortunate friend of Kol's," Dana replied snippily as she stalked past Rebekah, not even pausing to introduce herself.
Rebekah turned her gaze to Kol who was smirking now, annoyance flashing across her face at the rude way the younger vampire had acted. "Brother, you have a friend? I wasn't aware you were capable of finding someone to put up with you."
"She's not really a friend. More of a plaything really," Kol responded bemusedly.
It wasn't long after the words left his mouth that a dagger went speeding past his head, just close enough to ruffle his hair. His eyes landed on Dana who was standing not too far away, arms crossed and eyes narrowed dangerously.
"I'm not anybody's plaything," she scoffed, pursing her lips.
The next thing Dana knew the dagger was buried in her thigh and she was hissing in pain. She wrapped her thin fingers around the hilt and yanked it out, scowling as the skin slowly stitched itself back together. A devilish look danced in Kol's eyes, as if to tell her that two could play at that game.
She returned the look he was giving her. If she wanted to she could flee from town and leave every single supernatural being in Mystic Falls to their mercy. Luckily for him she knew Matt was friends with certain people who weren't human, not to mention that she wasn't sure she could leave Damon to such a fate.
"They're a clan of hunters," Dana spat out, pushing the anger bubbling inside down until she could speak in a semi-calm voice.
"So what?" Rebekah butted in, not exactly knowing enough to about what the younger vampire was talking about.
Dana cast her gaze towards the older female vampire, leaning back against the wall while a steely look danced in the depths of her eyes. "They're an old clan, ancestors of the first clan of hunters. And they don't just kill vampires. They'll kill any supernatural being they come in contact with. Witches, vampires, dopplegangers, werewolves. They don't care."
"And you're scared of them?" Kol mused, folding his arms over his chest while regarding the younger vampire with arrogance.
"No. But I know what they're capable of…" Dana mumbled.
"And how would know that? Unless you've been hunted by them of course." Rebekah stated, a smirk painting her coral lips.
"They're still hunting me actually," Dana straightened up, "and if they're here in Mystic Falls they're not going to leave until they've killed every supernatural in town."
"Then leave Mystic Falls," Rebekah retorted.
"Not a chance." Dana's brows furrowed, averting her gaze from Rebekah who she hadn't even been formally introduced to yet. "Just because I leave doesn't mean they'll leave."
Dana moved. She headed straight towards the front door, fully intending to leave. However, before she could reach the door Kol reached out and snatched her wrist up in a vice-like grip that would have broken her bones had she been human. If he were to squeeze just a little harder he would likely snap her bones anyway though.
"What clan of hunters are they?" For once Dana didn't hear that teasing, obnoxious, and totally smug tone in Kol's voice. This Kol sounded deadly and ready to snap if she said the wrong thing. Dana was sure it was the side of Kol she should truly be afraid of.
"Chasseur."
As soon as the name left her mouth she jerked her wrist away and strode straight out of the front door, flashing out of sight as soon as she was outside. That left Kol alone with Rebekah who was staring at her brother whose face had darkened at the name Dana had given him.
"What's wrong with you?" She questioned.
"I have unfinished business with the Chasseur family," Kol murmured darkly before disappearing as well, leaving Rebekah alone to roll her eyes.
What an interesting five minutes that had been.
It took Dana a good hour to track Matt down. She eventually compelled someone into telling her where he had gone, as the few people she asked seemed rather reluctant to tell her anything. That was how she found herself standing in front of the Gilbert house.
She really didn't want to be here.
Dana had already heard enough about the doppleganger from conversations with Matt. Even Kol had mentioned her once or twice, going on about his brother's unhealthy obsession with creating hybrids.
Still she knocked on the door three times before pulling her hands back to hook her thumbs through the belt loops of the jeans she wore. She waited. On the other side she heard the sound of not two, but three heartbeats. One approached the door and it was pulled open to reveal a pretty girl with long, brown hair.
"Elena?" Dana questioned skeptically as the other girl eyed the vampire.
"Yes?" Elena was returning the suspicious look, more than happy to question who the girl standing at her doorstep was.
"Is Matt here?"
"Dana?" As soon as her question left her mouth Matt appeared behind Dana. He let Elena know that Dana was safe, then Elena almost reluctantly invited the vampire girl into the house.
Dana followed the two into the kitchen where another girl was. Dana eyed the girl for a moment, sizing her up. It took her a few minutes to gather that the girl standing before her was a witch and she appeared to be the same age as Elena and Matt.
"Bonnie, Elena, this is Dana. Dana…Bonnie and Elena." Matt started with the introductions, almost sensing the tension that hung in the air.
It seemed that neither Bonnie nor Elena trusted Dana. Whether it was because she was a stranger or a vampire, Matt couldn't tell. What he did know, however, was that it was odd for Dana to seek him out outside of the Grill.
"There's a clan of hunters in Mystic Falls." Dana cut straight to the point. She wanted to get it over with as soon as she could, to escape the looks Bonnie and Elena were giving her. She was sure the two girls were perfectly nice, but they didn't know Dana and Dana didn't really know them.
"Vampire hunters?" Elena's face twisted in something along the lines of confusion.
"Not just vampire hunters," Dana explained, not directly looking at Elena and at Matt instead, "they'll kill you all. Even the two of you." Now she pinned her eyes on Elena and Bonnie, smirking when Bonnie eyes flashed in confusion as well.
"Anyway," Dana shook her head, "I figured I'd warn you and get you to spread word to Damon and any other supernaturals in town. They don't exactly play around when they hunt."
"How many of them are there?" Surprisingly to Dana it was the witch girl, Bonnie, who asked the question.
Dana considered for a moment, wondering if she should really go as far to guess as to how many were traveling with the family of hunters. She made her mind up, tilting her head to the side. "There are probably nine traveling together, but there are others."
"Are you sure that they're here though?"
Dana's eyes snapped over to Elena, almost sneering at the younger girl as she said, "Of course I'm sure. What? Do you not believe me?"
"It's not that I don't believe you," Elena argued, "just that I don't know if I should trust you."
"And I don't care if you trust me or not. I just figured I would warn you and all of your little friends before you're all killed."
"I'm sure with all of us we could handle them. There are nine of the hunters and plenty of supernaturals in town who would fight to keep Mystic Falls in one piece." Bonnie argued as well, not sure what to make of what the vampire was saying.
"Look," Dana suddenly changed her tactics, "if you don't believe me, go and ask Damon. He knows the family. He'll back what I'm saying up, especially if he knows that they're in town. I'll see you later Matt."
Dana gave Matt a friendly nod before departing from the Gilbert home. She almost wished she had just gone directly to Damon who would have gotten word out without questioning everything she said. If Elena hadn't reeked of vervain then Dana could have just compelled the human girl into telling the Salvatore.
But no. Little Elena was all anti-vamped out. Ready to face every vampire that tried to compel her. Boy did those Salvatore brothers have her ready.
On Dana's walk back to her grandmother's house she realized she was being followed. Not that it particularly bothered her, as she had a pretty decent idea of who it was. But instead of pausing to glance around to see who it was she continued on walking. Her feet scuffed against the concrete sidewalk as she walked.
Honestly, it had been a fairly productive day.
Dana was almost to Stacey's house when Kol finally decided to make his presence known, and boy did make it known. Before Dana knew it his hand was buried in her abdomen and she let out a choked noise, the pain rattling her to bones. She forced her gaze to meet the dark, angry eyes of the Original vampire.
"You said your name was Dana Chasseur," Kol ground out menacingly, "that means that you are one them."
"Not anymore," Dana coughed, wincing as it jostled the area where Kol had his hand buried in her middle, "They're hunting me you idiot! They want me dead."
"Why is that?" He pushed his hand farther in, eliciting a groan of pain from the younger vampire.
"What do you think happens when a hunter is turned into a vampire?" She snarled, "I committed the highest possible treason against my clan when I-" she broke off into another cough, her fingers clenching into fists so tight that her knuckles turned white.
"Continue," Kol urged.
"When I willingly became a vampire."
As soon as the words left Dana's mouth Kol withdrew his hand from Dana's body, which sent the younger vampire crumbling to the ground. She braced her palms against the sidewalk, pulling in deep, heavy breaths as her wound healed itself. She lifted her head only to find Kol staring down at her with a mixture of hostility and curiosity.
"You willingly became a vampire? I thought every single Chasseur was a saint dedicated to the good will of terminating every single supernatural to walk the earth." Kol's words were mocking, almost as if he were trying to make fun of her.
"What's it to you anyway?"
"They murdered an entire coven of witches I had been running with back in the day," Kol explained. What he didn't bother to explain was that it had been the ancestors of the living Chasseur family members that had done the killing. Still, he had sworn on that day he would kill the hunters for murdering the coven of witches he'd found himself attached to them.
"Doesn't surprise me," Dana murmured as she pushed herself to her feet. "They're pretty damn ruthless."
Dana brushed her jeans off, scowling at the hole that now decorated the front of her shirt. She scowled at Kol who still look fairly angry. His fists were clenched into tight fists, veins bulging at his neck. It was the first time Dana could say she'd actually seen Kol as angry as he appeared now, and she wasn't sure what to do about it.
As Dana was standing in front of the furious Kol a brief memory flashed through her mind. One that had happened a good four years ago, although it had been one that seemed like it had been yesterday.
A loud roar echoed throughout the nearly empty home of the Chasseur family. A girl of only seventeen was glaring at the sage green walls of the parlor. Her fist was throbbing as she glared furiously where her fist had made contact.
Adrenaline and fury pulsed through her veins. She had never been so absolutely ticked off, not just towards her family, but the entire situation she was in in the first place.
"Dana…" A soft voice sounded from behind her which was just enough to cause the teenage girl to tense up.
The frail hand that slid onto her shoulder was a familiar one. It was soft in it's touch, reminding Dana just how fragile the boy standing behind her really was. It wouldn't take much and she could have him down at her mercy and he would be helpless to stop any of it.
Horror flashed through the girl's blue-gray eyes. When had she started having such thoughts? Thoughts that would lead to causing harm to her own brother?
"It's alright Dana…"
Perhaps that was how Dana found her hand on Kol's shoulder, telling him that it would okay. But it wasn't just those words she muttered to him before he shrugged her hand off in annoyance.
No, she assured him that he would have his revenge.
So in this chapter Dana meets Elena and Bonnie for the first time. And Rebekah as well. I'm not sure how well I portrayed them, so let me know what how I did and how I can fix it if I didn't do well. We get a small glimpse into Dana's past and I am really looking forward to slipping Elijah, Klaus, and Finn into the story. :)
Anyway. O.o Thank you all dearly for your reviews :) I appreciate them and I can't wait to see what you have to say about this chapter ;)
