Bloody Tears
Chapter Nine
Trusted Ally or...
Kagome sighed, watching as the two boys brought in their Gundams from the sea. Howard had already retrieved hers, so it was already on the ship. In fact, that's where she was watching them from. Sitting on the head of her Gundam, she was eyeing the two boys from a distance, still unsure of Heero.
"Hmm..." she turned away from the boys and looked to Duo's laptop. She had brought it from the room that she and Duo shared so that she could watch them and do her research at the same time. Pulling up another window, she typed in a few things to access her own laptop without having to pull it out. "...interesting," she smiled as she looked at two flashing dots on a radar that were next to each other, three more dots were side by side, with a single solitary dot further away from the other groups of dots. "Hey...Duo!"
"Yeah? What's up?" Duo called from where he stood on the Gundam Hanger floor.
" Two pilots have come in contact with each other. It's Quatre and Trowa..."
"Looks like today is a day of introductions, how close are they?" He asked, turning his full attention onto Kagome, straining his neck to see her better.
"...not that close; they're in the arid region, but judging by my calculations they will be heading in this direction soon. The other is farther away than they are...so he's probably going to be the last one that we come in contact with."
Duo nodded, turning back to what he was doing, he continued to guide the other Gundam up into the Hanger. "There, I pulled yours up too." He turned his eyes to Heero; the other boy was ignoring him blatantly as he messed with his leg. "You could at least show a little gratitude!"
Kagome looked down at what was taking place below and chuckled. She wrinkled her nose slightly and watched in disgust as Heero popped his leg back in place without as much as a grunt of pain.
"Eew, I can't take much more of this. He just goes and put's a broken bone back in place, man that just totally grosses me out just thinking about it."
Shaking her head, Kagome looked over the files on her laptop, closing out of the radar she was eyeing moments ago. "Lady Une..." she muttered softly before she began reading over the information. "Afflicted with multiple personality disorder, Lady Une is actually two different personalities in one woman's body. With her glasses on, and her hair up, she assumes the personality of "Colonel Une", a strict taskmaster and right hand officer of Treize Khushrenada. But when the glasses come off and her hair comes down, she becomes "Saint Une", a gentle and soft-spoken champion of peace. Age nineteen, height one hundred and sixty-one cm., weight is forty-seven kg., eye color is brown, and hair color brown." She closed her eyes and sighed, "she sounds like nothing more than a case load of drama. I'm going to go ahead a skip the ones on the other pilots." Closing the laptop lid, she stood up and jumped down to the shoulders of her Gundam before sliding down the side of Haniyasu and making her way past the two boys.
"Hey, where are you going?" Duo asked before she left.
Kagome turned back curiously, "To bed, why? Is my presence necessary any longer?"
Duo frowned, shaking his head silently, he watched her turn and walk off. He wasn't used to this change of attitude. Either he'd pissed her off, or something else was bothering her. "...hey..." he turned to Heero, "if you get sleepy, we have a spare bedroom that you can use, or the room me and Kagome use has another bed that isn't being used at the current moment. I'm going to turn in though...was there anything that you needed before I leave?"
Heero ignored him as he continued to work on his Gundam. Duo glared at the new pilot before crossing his arms behind his head and storming off, 'Looks like I'm the only happy one here!' He thought to himself before throwing open the door and taking Kagome by surprise.
Kagome's eyes were wide and in her hand was a knife that she'd pulled out in her shock, "DAMN IT! What's your problem!? You scared me half to death!"
Duo blushed, "Sorry about that, I guess I was a bit irritated...um, can I come in?"
Kagome stared at him for a moment before shrugging, "It's your room, isn't it?"
"...Kagome, what's wrong? You weren't acting like this until we brought Heero on board."
Kagome glanced down at the knife in her hand, staring at it for a good while before sighing in frustration, "Damn..., I'm sorry Duo. I don't know why I'm acting like this. I know I shouldn't be...I just, I'm scared of him. I don't know why, but I'm honestly scared of him! He...his eyes, they're so cold...and he feels nothing! You saw him, he popped his own dislocated leg into place, and then when I watched the two of you jump from the Hospital window...it was eighteen floors, and he hit the ground so hard...he didn't flinch, or cry out...had that been me...had that been me..." She closed her eyes and clinched her fists before punching her pillow furiously. "Why am I so weak!?"
Duo laughed tediously, "You aren't the only one...I would have probably been up to my knees in agony...comparing myself to Heero isn't something I want to do, nor do I plan on doing so in the near or late future. He's...different..."
"...different? Is that really our only defense? He's different, so our weakness is acceptable..."
"It's not weakness...it's called being human, and I'd take that over being an emotionless daredevil any day." He walked over to Kagome's bedside and smiled, "Don't think too much on it, just loosen up a little and roll with the punches. Every once in a while, duck and throw in a kick."
Kagome laughed, "Right, I guess I am being a bit apprehensive over our new ally for no real reason."
"Well, no, you have reason, but we all have our dark and twisted little secrets...we need to trust one another, even if it's only until this war is over. In the end, Kagome, you know...I'll still be Duo, I'm here if you need someone normal to talk to."
Kagome nodded before she stretched and fell back on her bed, "I guess I'm going to bed then, I'm tired."
Duo got off her bed and moved to his own, "I'll see you in the morning then, night."
"Good night, Duo." Kagome rolled over in bed and closed her eyes, but she still couldn't get the new pilot off of her mind. Yes, she had told Duo not to hurt him, and yes, she had told him to bring him on board...but still...she couldn't get those eyes out of her head. She couldn't ignore that natural cold gaze. He didn't trust them...and so, she couldn't trust him.

Me: This chapter strayed a bit off course from the original chapter it was from, I thought about how I had made Kagome extremely trustful over the Pilots, and while I can understand Duo, or even a single Pilot as an ally...I can't see a female pilot growing up as an assassin and trusting five boys unconditionally like that. I had to change it up, hopefully for the better.
