Chapter 9

Serana awoke slowly opening her eyes to notice that she was alone in her bed. The young woman would've thought that last night was all a dream, but when she saw that she was nude and the mark on her neck that was all she needed to know that it actually did happen. Serana smiled and was going to get up when she noticed a folded piece of paper on her nightstand next to her iPod.

Bones and Jim were on the bridge discussing about the two Vulcan hybrids since they found out about Serana's Pon Farr. When Spock left them and Uhora in med bay last night, the three of them were trying to figure out what to do with a Vulcan going through the most powerful moment in their life. Spock hadn't had his yet, but they knew he was more experienced with the Vulcan life and culture since he was raised on Vulcan. Serana, however, had the misfortune to live a life of a human in a different universe. Even though she was originally from Vulcan, she didn't grow up knowing how to handle situations like Pon Farr when they happen. Now it was almost midafternoon and no one has seen Spock or heard word from Serana as of late.

The two stopped their conversation when the lift doors opened and Spock walked onto the bridge. They watched as their First Officer sat down at his station and begun to work. Uhora, who was closer to him and knew more about the Vulcan life than the doctor and the captain, quickly glanced at him and noticed he seemed to be in a… happier mood. His whole demeanor looked slightly calmer and less tense, but not completely since he was still acting like his usual old self. Then her eyes looked at his neck and the lieutenant had to hold back her gasp: there was the mating mark on Spock's neck. Uhora silently took off her headset and walked over to where the other males were talking. Spock continued his work, but noted the fact that his fellow crewmates were studying him and noticed Uhora's shocked looked yet didn't acknowledge it. He was in a great mood and it was because of his mate.

Jim and Bones saw Uhora walking over to them and waited until she was close enough to start questioning her.

"So?" Jim asked his girlfriend. He was concerned for his Vulcan friend and noted how different his presence felt when he arrived to the bridge.

"So, what?" Uhora asked, teasing the two slightly. If Serana was with her she knew the Vulcan human would be trying not laugh and would wait until they were out of earshot to crack up.

Bones rolled his eyes. "Don't joke, Uhora. You know how serious the situation is and we are all worried about both of them. What did you notice about Spock?"

Uhora smiled. "He seemed more at ease, but still his usual self. Maybe slightly more… happy." The two men looked skeptical, but Uhora had them in for a surprise. "There is another thing that I noticed." Jim arched a brow and Bones crossed his arms. "I saw part of a mating mark on Spock's neck."

That piece of news literally made both human men jaws drop. Uhora made a mental note to take remember their faces to memory to tell Serana later… if she was able to. Due to his heighten Vulcan hearing, Spock was able to catch bits of the conversation. He was sporting a smug smirk on his face when he heard the stun silence after Uhora told Kirk and Doctor McCoy the news about the fact that he was now mated to Serana.

The bridge doors to the corridors opened and Spock looked up to see Serana peaking onto the bridge. Serana had read Spock's note about how he had to leave to work on the bridge and would see her for dinner. Since they mated, Serana not only be able to control herself again, but could sense Spock's mind and emotions. Not to mention feeling like her old self and was feeling well enough to leave her room. So after taking a nice long shower and putting on a black female Starfleet uniform, Serana left the quarters and decided to take the long way to the bridge. When she arrived, Serana was looking for Uhora to see if she wanted to head to the mess hall to grab a bite to eat. Peaking in her eyes first found Spock and felt his emotions spike at her appearance. She sent her own back at him to show she was fine and back to normal as she could be.

Looking away from her mate, Serana saw Uhora speaking to Kirk and Bones, but neither heard the doors open since they were deep in conversation. An idea came to mind and she quietly walked up to the clueless group.

"So does this mean that Serana is back to normal?" Kirk asked as Serana crept closer. Her hearing was able to hear them now and realized that they were worried about her.

"Hell do I know, Jim! I'm a doctor, not a Vulcan specialist." Bones exclaimed putting his hands in the air in exasperation.

What on Earth are they talking about? Serana wondered as she stopped just behind Uhora.

"Maybe we should wait until later to talk to either Spock or Serana. I'm sure neither doesn't want us invading their personal lives." Uhora advised them. She cared about her friend as if the female Vulcan was her sister.

"I agree with Uhora. What happens between the Commander and I is personal and shouldn't be any of your business." Serana told them and suppressed a smile when all three jumped in surprise at her voice.

"Serana!" Jim said surprised. Bones had his famous scowl on his face while Uhora hugged her friend tightly. "You should be in your room resting. You are going through Pon Farr and can be danger to us."

"For your information, Captain," Serana voice was strict and cold. "if you actually pay attention or at least do the research like Uhora, then you would know that once a Vulcan is mated they are in more control and are connected to their mate. So in words that you would understand, if you don't know what is going on, learn about it or butt out." Also, my sex life is none of your business. She added mentally and projected it to Spock, who got it and had to keep himself busy to prevent himself from getting involved.

"Why are you here anyway, Sera?" Bones used his nickname for her as a way to keep her calm. The possibility that her emotions can become unstable again can still be pretty high. "Kirk may be an idiot, but he has a point. You need rest."

She smiles at the doctor. He was not only her friend, but a father-like figure for the young Vulcan. "I was actually coming to see if Nyota wanted to get some lunch for me. I haven't eaten anything yet and it's a little late for breakfast." Serana told him before turning to her roommate. "Want to grab a bite? I would like some girl time."

"What about us?" They turned to see Sulu and Chekov looking at them. They heard that Serana was ill and were concerned about her since they were close. Sulu pretended to look hurt while Chekov had the puppy eyes in full effect.

Serana smiled. "I will spar with you two later this afternoon. Right now, I want female company and to apologize for not telling Nyota what was happening in person."

Everyone backed off after that and the two females made their way off the bridge. Serana made a quick glance towards Spock and he looked up in time to see her leaving. She sent her emotions of love and endearment to him as well as promise to see him later. He returned it with a nod and a wave of love and understanding to her. Serana left to catch up with Uhora with a smile on her face.

Serana was sitting in on a bed in med bay, waiting for Bones to finish checking her. He called her after she just got back to her room from having lunch with Uhora and told her she needed to be checked just in case Pon Farr messed with current condition. The female Vulcan hybrid went of course so she doesn't stress the doctor more since Kirk does it enough on a daily basis.

"So your mental health is fine." Bones informs her as he looks over her results. "Same for your physical as well. Your emotions are stable and seem to be back to a normal scale. Whatever is in you hasn't affected your well-being. That just leaves one thing." He looks at her. "Have you tried your technopathic powers yet?"

Serana shrugged and closed her eyes. Her mind reached out and soon was connected with the Enterprise. The ship seemed to be happy to see the young one okay and seemed to be begging her to tell Scotty to stop messing with her phaser systems. Apparently, the man thought there was something wrong with it when there actually wasn't.

"The Enterprise wants me or somebody else to contact Scotty." Serana told the CMO who was watching intently. "He's messing with something that is perfectly functional. Someone might have told false information as a joke."

Bones nodded and released her, promising to let Scotty know. Serana left the bay and returned to the sleeping quarters to change for the gym. Once ready, she left with her workout outfit (black t-shirt and black yoga pants) with her iPod, sonic screwdriver, and communicator attached to her belt that she rarely take off. In the gym Serana started stretching and then focused her mind as she practices her martial arts moves. Sulu and Chekov joined her when their first shift was over. The three of them sparred until Serana had to return her shared quarters to prepare for her dinner date with her mate.

Serana was in the shower in her and Uhora's quarters when Uhora accidentally walked in while the poor female Vulcan was showering. Serana heard the door open and looked to see Uhora doing her makeup in the mirror.

"Nyota!" Serana squealed. Thankfully the curtains were blue and non-transparent or she would have a total conniption. "I'm showering! Can't you wait until I am out before you put your makeup on?"

Uhora suppressed a laugh, but couldn't stop the smile forming on her face. "That's what you get when you add an extra hours with those two. Sulu wants a challenge and Chekov just wants to learn." She said while putting on mascara. "Anyway I have a date as well with Jim. He's going to be here soon and I needed to make sure I look good."

Serana pokes her head out of the curtain. "What's the point of wearing makeup when you look good with or without it, Ny?" Her friend bowed her head, but the Vulcan saw caught her blush in the reflection. "Besides I'm almost done and my clothes are in here as well." She jerks her head to where her outfit was hanging by the door. "So you don't have to worry about your man walking into our room while I change. Just make sure he doesn't come in here."

Uhora was about to put on lipstick, but stopped to stare at her friend in the mirror. "Don't worry about it, Ana. He will behave."

The Vulcan arched her eyebrow skeptically. "You do know that we are talking about your boyfriend who happens to be James Kirk, right?" she asked in a mock serious voice.

Both of them shared a look before busting up laughing. "Yes, I know!" Uhora said as she tried to put on lipstick, but couldn't hold back the giggles. "You know you looked like Spock when you did that eyebrow thing."

Serana rolled her eyes and continued her shower. She was happy that things so far are going great for her. Her mate happens to be the one who stole her heart a long time ago, manage to help out on the ship she always dreamt of working on, and becoming part of a family who have worked together since the Enterprise first started her voyage.

Yes, life is perfect. Serana thinks to herself as she rinses of. I just hope it stays that way.

A/N: Next time: The crew arrives at New Vulcan and Serana meets a special someone. Also is there a Vulcan out for Serana?
